WHY DID PRINCE REALLY fire ALEXANDER O'NEAL? [SEASON 1 EPISODE 8]

- YOUNG PURPLE IS BECOMING PRINCE. The mystery the masks, the evasive clever joker prankster is coming out. Who is Jamie Starr. Is he a troll for the press? Is he a straw man for publishing? Is Jamie Starr a legit alter-ego?
Not even the participants know for sure. Jamie Starr is the ersatz producer on some mega Prince-Projects like Vanity 6 and The Time. Complicating matters is the fact that Young Purple has inexplicably withdrawn from interviews. Young Purple is cloaking himself in secrecy, mystery, and enigmatic behaviour.
Armed with the Linn-1 drum machine, that jacked strat, a home studio and the growing Purple Army. Young Purple, Morris Day, Jesse Johnson and two thermonuclear intercontinental ballistic missiles in the form of the greatest songwriting duo EVER Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis head out on tour.
The Hookers are evolving into Vanity 6 as Prince and Vanity look into the mirror that is each other.
The Prince catalog is now bigger than ever. Each night Prince is bringing a diverse set to the stage. When You were Mine, Jack U Off, Do Me Baby, I wanna Be your Lover. He has also relegated his funkiest jams to his funk B team (or so he thinks) The Time, who are fast becoming stout nightly competition. Young Purple is not too far removed from those nights when he battled with Rick James for funk street cred. Morris, Jesse, Jimmy, Terry, Jellybean, and Monte Moir won't let him forget those battles. Flyte Tyme may be owned and helmed by Jamie Starr, but Young Purple is about to learn what it means to grip a tiger by the tail.

We appreciate you...these are wonderful!
Giving me life. Trust.
@Sinnik22 Did you work in the Prince camp at one time? I love your videos so much! Thank you
"first of all Alexander o'neal needs a new house"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I had no idea Alexander O'Neal is such an unintentionally hilarious dude. That 3rd person self reference and posh accent shit of his is too funny
Prince offered Morris $20,000 or a record deal for Partyup, Morris took the record deal. Smart move. That Alexander O'Neal story is hilarious.
Omg that Prince impression by Jimmy was so funny
"i'm about to from PG to DD" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Can we award best director yet? Loving these. This dude Should be involved in the Netflix doc
Hi hi praise bruh
I love that whenever anyone tells a Prince story, Prince always calls everyone by their full name: "Jimmy Jam, what's that you are playing? Terry Lewis, why aren't you doing the choreography? Charlie Murphy, would you like some pancakes? Jimmy Fallon, how about a game of ping-pong?"
The Jimmy Jam Prince imitation is also priceless.
@@Sinnik22 Even when Dave Chappelle & Charlie Murphy did the Prince skit, Prince says "Charlie Murphy, would you like to play basketball?"
He would be mad at me I would be laughing at him the whole time..
😂🤣
I was dead @ Alexander O’Neal, in 3rd person, makin up the word “interbulate” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bruh, I thought the exact same thing! It’s a word though,
in·ter·po·late
/inˈtərpəˌlāt/
Learn to pronounce
verb
insert (something of a different nature) into something else.
"illustrations were interpolated in the text"
Similar:
insert
interpose
introduce
enter
add
incorporate
inset
implant
build
put
insert (words) in a book or other text, especially in order to give a false impression as to its date.
I even think he used the word in the proper context. SHOCKER😲
@@Sinnik22 ah ok, I thought I was hearing something slightly different... I remember L. Ron Hubbard creating a small controversy because he made up the word interbulate having something to do with Scientology 😆
@@Sinnik22 More importantly, let me say these works of art you’re giving to the world are so dope!! I just love them!! Thank you! 🙏🏽
That’s new info for me after all of these years. I never thought Prince used the name Alexander Nevermind for ‘Sugar Walls’ as a reference to AON. That’s like the time he & Morris said ‘we don’t like new wave’ and then laughed on ‘onedayimgonnabesomebody’ as a reference to Cymone’s first solo album.
Prince was so damn high-maintenance, especially with music. I guess crazy comes with genuis.
💯 John Coltrane Miles Davis Leonardo DaVinci Michael Jackson Steve Jobs 💯
How was he high maintenance when he wrote all the music?
@@lauraveney1412 High Maintenance in the sense that he didn’t just accept anything. You couldn’t bullshit him. Read about his band mates getting pissed at him for his authoritarian attitude.
@@pinkcashmeres He was the boss, so got to call the shots. I'm sure he was difficult to work for but the experience made them better at their craft.
Prince really found a good friend in Morris. I don't know of many that would have put up with his crap.
Doing research. it looks like Prince really needed a bff close by at all times.
André Morris Jill Jones and later Jerome Benton
Morris found a good friend in Prince. From Montgomery Ward to fronting a group with songs already recorded and then made him a movie star. We know who was following who.
@@lauraveney1412 What does following have to do with friendship?
You haven't met me lol i went through the same thing morris did but the situation is reversed though
Never once made that Alexander Oneal - (Nevermind) connection. Man that's ice cold years down the line. Sheena Easton released Sugar Walls when Ice Cream Castles was the Time's current release. They were 3 albums in and Prince is taking subliminal shots at dude. He was a wild boy.
Prince was that fo sho
I love it when Jimmy impersonates Prince. So funny.
It is funny hearing Jimmy arguing with prince
*Lessons Learned:* 1) *Alexander O'Neal* was partially right asking about business early on. Because Prince's business dealings with the band later turned out financially not in their favor. 2) Vanity 6 was basically a group of singing "hookers" in Prince's own words. 3) Susan Moonsee of Vanity 6 wrote "Make-up" & "Drive Me Wild" for Vanity 6. 4) Dez Dickerson wrote "Cool" with Prince & shared credit 50/50. 5) *Alexander* can tear a steak up.
im in complete agreement. Prince didn't like contracts or money talk.
@@Sinnik22 I'm shocked there was a contract drawn up between Prince & Dez for "Cool". Awesome artifact & research pull *Sinnik22* .
Jimmy Jam's impression of Prince is hella funny!
What I love most about this series is that I learn something new in every episode. I hadn’t heard of Jamie Starr until now. Keep ‘em coming. Can’t wait for episode 9!
High Praise! This dude was a double secret genius w multiple IDs
One of his many alter egos the other ones being Alexander NeverMind and Joey Coco
@@jimjones1374
Alexander O Neal?
Never-ending. ( U ain't gone b n da Tiime, dude. )
8:50 I’m glad Alexander O’Neal didn’t “interbulate” that as a message from Prince.
LOL...Andre was a HUGE character back in the 80's it looks like
The part that gets me is when Jimmy Jam explains how he and the band The Time would jam with Prince just for heck of it and somehow there just happened to be a tape recorder around and Prince would take the tape and next thing you know Jimmy hears new music from Prince that they were jamming to also when Jimmy is playing 777-9311 Prince would come in and ask what’s he doing why are you playing the bass-line, he said because Monte is playing the bass-line , he told he should singing so he plays the chorus line and then says Jimmy Jam why are just standing there why aren’t you dancing and says I’m playing the keyboards 🎹 so Jimmy starts some dance move and grooving while playing the keyboards thanks to Prince
Boss level multi tiered all purpose genius
Prince imagined the whole thing.
That thing about Prince has always made me smile. He said that you have to play live BETTER than the record.
When you would see a Prince show live you saw and felt that. You really got your money’s worth.
I was a CHR/R&B DJ in the 80s-2005 and I saw many many live shows. I can tell you that very few of them gave as good as a Prince show. None of the songs sounded just like the record, they sounded better!
What’s more is you got a different show every night. I saw the Jam of the Year show three times. Each time was totally different and each was a total Jam.
I don’t think many (or any) artists can do that.
Alexander Nevermind..... 😂😭😂
Alexander talking in 3rd person..🤣
“Mo Paper” this is all cute Prince but I need a new house
@@Sinnik22 ,I agreed with Mr. Alexander O'Neal. Prince just didn't care for people whom challenged him. He probably wanted O'Neal out of the Group anyways. To make room for his friend Mr. Morris Day as the lead singer. Mr. O'Neal had hits after hits as Solo Musician.
Alexander O'Neal confirmed my suspicions.
;-)
Prince had so many alternative non de plumes ,craziest one is Joey Coco😀,though Camille is right up there😀👍👍....Prince didn’t think Alex fitted the bill as a front man,Prince needed a counter part,,Morris had the right attributes, also,Alexander O’Neal wasn’t” teen idol material”,Not that he was ugly but Not the” pretty boy”, guy, teen girls swoon over, yes Prince could be cruel....very...He was always correct in his choices,it’s business, that’s why Prince went on to be a Mega 🌟 Star..
The ladies loved Morris.
@@Sinnik22 true that..👍
Remember when a broken heart was the worst thing you could experience? Aquarian
The legend of a band called "The Time" ..*nobody* knows how the eff it really went down.. one thing's for certain: Jessie Johnson: *sick* with that guitar!!!
Can’t argue that. Jesse is a goat
Once again wonderful! 💜
Great stuff! Thanks for your helpful comments! Keeps me going. Research and the whole thing. 😬😅
This vid is well dove Bravo. Prince’s life would be a great movie
Prince's life was so vast. PR was the semi bio of a 25 year old. unreal. Many Thanks!
Thank U!! Priceless!
I totally love these stories. Better than what I imagined in my childhood. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall, but I was only 12, but now I can thanks to your channel!
Prince had so much fun in his life.
And yet at the same time I get the feeling Prince maybe should have taken time for more fun. right?
@@Sinnik22
YUPPERZ!!!
I wouldn’t have dealt with Alexander either especially in the 3rd person.
😂😭 right
It worked out for the best. Because Mr. Alexander O'neal had hits after hits. I loved his Solo Career. Prince was a narcissists that probably wanted people to bow down towards him. Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis were also fired by Prince.
Well, *Alexander* doesn't have to deal with you either so it's all good! Now pardon me, *Alexander's* about to tear this steak up...
@@reimourrpower9357 Alexander was too down to earth and real for Prince..
These are so dope
I don't know how U do this but keep it up. It's just fascinating.
Share…we trying🥳
Love it when they said "I" "we" they show prince lol
On the floor with the Jimmy jam part..lol
jimmy jam did a whole skit. kilt me
Sinnik22 good stuff. I'd recommend you get a write and develop at script for a movie or mini series. I can see this happening. You've got the material. Good luck.
Thanks for the supportive words, Prince was an inspiring figure in many directions. Every good word gets me in the feels.
Season 2 is being baked rn. I hope you enjoy it.
Very true. This series is an excellent blueprint for a dramatic series on the early days of Prince and the MPLS artists that created the sound & movement. CONTROVERSY or GET IT UP could be potential titles.
Publicity Stunt To the Max they wrote nothing
The greatest musician ever the greatest artists along with Michael Jackson...Prince or maybe better than Michael Jackson...
Love it.
Love it. ☝️

Yes
“Find a note and sing”...
#Betterthantharrcord
"Jimmy jam whats that your playing with your right hand Jimmy jam". Lol.
Prince was like a really pleasant Suge Knight
Lol Jimmy Jam, what's that you're playing?
💜👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💜
Interpulate ? Lol
you have to slow the jumping down between people speaking .
I'm confused...they said that they wrote the song but prince changed it and took it..correct me if I'm wrong he took the concept of the song but create another sound so did they really write the song or prince? Jesse Johnson said he did the bassline to jungle love and said prince created the rest of the music so how you write the song?? You only contributed the bassline...
I heard the demo. The baseline and the key chords are basically the song. Prince did the melody and Morris co wrote the lyrics. You can search jungle love demo on UA-cam or check Jesse’s fb.
@@Sinnik22 kool thanks
If you write the original bassline, chords, melodies, lyrics, etc. to a song then you deserve credit. Very often band members would start an song with chords laid out (Dez, Wendy, Lisa, Dr. Fink, The Time, etc.) and Prince reported would hear the chords & jam session, record it, bring back the same chords and credit himself only. Sometimes he'd properly share credit (Dez Dickerson sharing 50% songwriting with Prince on "Cool" for The Time, Wendy & Lisa on "Computer Blue", etc.) .
Prince is unquestionably a musical genius who wrote much of his songs solo 100%. But he also had a masterful ear for talent and incorporated the creative ideas of his band members into his own songs, sometimes taking full credit when should have shared. Prince is neither a saint or sinner when it comes to credit.
Alexander is wishing he would've held out & shut about needing that "Paper" early on. He didn't do too bad in his career, but he never reached the level that the Time & Prince did.
where the rest of the episodes?
The Episodes are uploaded weekly.
I still dont see episodes 9-15
You will see them weekly tho episodes 9 & 10 are up
Sinnik22 thank you so much for all of these
Love that you have for nd the channel
I was in Junior High School when Nasty Girl Video were on Video Soul. I said that the Caucasian woman shouldn't have been with the Group. She had no sexual exotic appealed liked the other two ladies that were in the Group.
I'm sure many out there, will disagree wit u.
“Exotic appealed?” 😂
I part agreed when they came out. But Brenda was the crossover white "hooker" that exapnded the 'mainstream' attraction to the group and made it controversial.
Brenda had the best voice. Her songs are the best ones on the albums. Brenda was FUNKY.
...but Brenda can really sing and her songs were the best ones... Bite The Beat - 1,000,000 Miles - Some Kinda Lover
Still can’t not laugh at “interpulate.”
Same. Yet somehow he got it. 🫤
Listen to the non-sense. Prince was Jamie Start and none of these suckers wrote anything. It is hilarious that people believed that Jamie Starr was a real person.
Jamie Starr, wuz a thief!!!
No, sorry. As stated here with the 'reciepts' (Dez Dickerson's 50% credit for writing "Cool" for The Time, Morris on "Partyup", Susan on "Drive Me Wild" & Makeup", etc.) Jamie Starr was more than Prince's alias. It was an outlet for other songwriters to collaborate with Prince in his creative alter ego. Don't believe the hype that Prince wrote 100% of all the songs he released, the credits show otherswise very often.
@@reimourrpower9357
DMSR - tis all I'm talkin about.
I don't claim 2 know da bizwax & quite frankly, I'm happy 2 hear Prince shared royaltiez. So often, I hear negativity wit regardz 2 da brotha, BUTT 4 a Rockstar, he seemed relatively down 2 Earth.
The co- writers have credit for what they collaborated on. Some of the associates are saying they received nothing when he fact they did.
@@reimourrpower9357 I wouldn't say very often but occasionally. Let's not forget Prince would give writing credit to someone for no reason. And then not give credit when he should. We know Sheila did not write Glamorous Life or Love Bizaar but is given writing credit. I can't figure out why he did or didn't give credit. He just liked confusion, lol.
Love it
