Lately I've been binging old DK videos while riding my indoor trainer. So far no Sasquatch. But I'm hopeful!

I'm so sick of all the "mountain biking is only sending road-gaps or doing back-flips in the air" mentality. I've been mountain biking since the early 90s. It's always been about the journey and traversing nature. It is my escape vehicle from life's ho-hum daily blah. My Xanax to modern society..

Got into mountain biking via hiking not bmx like alot of riding buddies and definitely feel the same way. If I can't make a cup of coffee or take a chill out break mid ride, something went wrong

Man I feel this. When I got into mountain biking, the cool kids rode fully rigid steel framed bikes with only a single gear cassette. Now it’s about spending $6000 on a full suspension trail bike to ride perfectly smooth trails.

Right on that's also why I got into mountain biking. In 91.

I'm with you on the "traversing the forest" school of biking. I have the skills for the chunky bike stuff, but I find it too risky for my old bones. Gravel grind the Forest FTW!

Exactly what I was thinking. As a 65yo I don't want to do the same stupid stuff I did a couple of years ago causing a severed rotator cuff. Instead of buying a dedicated gravel bike that I might use once a month (no roads near by) , I was looking for a xc bike for the trails near by but take to a gravel event ever so often. The supercaliber seems like the right bike for me. Thanks for the great video.

This review is spot on. I love your honesty and humility. I like jumps, gaps, rock gardens, and the like, but I also enjoy a long cross-country ride. Why limit ourselves? I rode HOspital Hill today and remembered your video... Gotta get back there in a few weeks when the wild flowers are blooming.

I recently added a very similar Canyon Lux Trail to my stable - it also has a triangle that fits a bikepacking bag, but has a bit more travel and a lot cheaper for a given spec (and it does have a dropper post from factory). I love and frankly even on plush rides where a gravel would suffice, this MTB so much more pleasant in soaking bumps. Without knowing I also hit my PB fastest ever times on local trails that I've traversed with a gravel bike many many times. So the right tool for the job IMO - if the terrain gets rough or you plan to ride rooty singletrack, full sus MTB is the way to go!

I used to own a Trek Fuel Ex (140/130, 66ha) but sold it to get a Supercaliber. I still run a 150 dropper on a L, instead of the lockout. The Supercal is such a blast to ride, even on the North Shore here in Vancouver. Sure I can’t go as fast on the downs as my Fuel, but I can spend the whole day climbing. And then I can double duty smash gravel roads faster than a lot of dropbar bikes.

We are on the same page regarding mountain biking. I tried the recent modern geometry MTB bikes and find them sluggish and clunky for the traversing in the woods kind of mountain biking I like, so I opt for my cyclocross bike with 40mm tires. I think an XC hardtail or something like this is next bike for me.

The main purpose if I remember correctly of the knock block is to keep the fork crown from striking the bottom of the downtube, which would be a bad thing on a carbon frame.
