3:16 This is the most accurate statement in the history of Acura CL's Couldn't have said it better myself. My dad bought Acura's most of his life and for some time he had a 3.2TL and my mom a 3.0 CL. Later the 3.2 TL got stolen and he took the CL and got mom a 3.0 Accord. (both Accord and CL got their transmissions replaced around 125 000km. The Accord was my brother's potential abuse and the CL was sold in flawless shape to a friend of mine who abused the life out of it. The CL was a beautiful and fantastic car, it was just sad that they didn't offer the 3.0 with a 6 speed manual. That 3.0 V6 s one of the best sounding engines with one of those unhealthy Cone Air Filters.
About 2 months ago I bought an '03 Cl with an automatic... last weekend an '03 Cl type S popped up on CL, a 6 speed... they both now reside in my driveway! The auto is my current 'daily' and the 6 speed is my new toy/hot rod.
I learned a few things in here, especially regarding that mid-model brake upgrade on the G1 cars. My old Milano Red '99 5MT is living in the Bronx now, and the owner still reaches out from time to time. Great rides! Looking forward to seeing what you have up your sleeve for your next deep dive.
Owner of 2003 CL-S 6-speed. I preferred this car as a daily over G35 Coupe 6-speed I owned (I had both of them at the same time; yes, I had issues back then). It was the best touring car but if you wanted to push it harder in the backroad, you can feel the LSD doing it's work. Love the car and I wish they had made 3 seats in the back rather than a 2+2 config.
Had a 99 CL V6. But I also had a 95 Accord EX Coupe. Biggest issue WITH BOTH WAS CLIMATE ISSUES AND FAULTY ABS. My CL V6 had the trans issue but drove it on multiple Vacations. But GLAD TO GET RID IF BOTH DUE TO RUST!!! NEVER AGAIN. Currently loving 2012 Acura TSX WAGON. just wish it had the V6.
Unreal.. My 1st Acura was the '98 CL 3.0 V6. Then tried an '08 Mazda6 for a few years but that sucked.. went back to Acura '08 TSX, then to '10 TSX V6. Now I drive a modded, crazy low km '13 TL 3.7L SHawd. Just installed a new JVC touchscreen w/voice control. Can't give it up it's such a great daily.
I drive an 01 tl and my sister was looking for a new car prior this year specifically a manual I found her a 98 cl 2.3 manual with only 140km on it! She loves it besides the broken fuel gauge cluster which is now replaced
Great video. I will say though, I kinda wish you had mentioned the concept model and how disappointing that we got what we got for the first generation.
@@AcuraAdvice I am tempted... but part of me desire a 92-93 Integra GS-R in green instead. The CL for sale is the light purple color and in decent shape. Listed on Craigslist in Bay Area.
Great video. I had the 97 2.2 5 speed manual & 97 3.0. Both great cars. The 3.0 had some serious power at that time being my 1st v6 acura/ honda. I then had the 01 which was also a great car. Previous owner had transmission rebuilt and was bulletproof after that. I now got the 03 6 speed monster in red on black non navigation. Never letting it go. Very rare and a blast to drive. Only wish i knew about the supercharger back then because maybe i could of gotten one. Anyway i'm on your channel now checking out content. Your in Canada but we are on same thought process with cars. Great channel my friend. Also subscribe and gonna share channel
The CL in blue looks sharp to me. I wonder if it was called Sonic Blue?? It was cool to hear you mention Comptech. I proudly rock Comptech swaybars. Take good care of your super rare manual CL.
Great presentation. Those Honda's were great, today's are questionable, coming from a 19 civic hatch 6sp owner. Don't even talk about Honda Canada prices
I would like to object to one point, which is the "Honda cannot master automatic transmissions" claim. Honda was actually very goot at making un fussy automatics for their four cylinder motors. The real problem is twofold: 1. Honda ATs, due to their design back then, did require regular scheduled fluid changes, or they could wear out faster than the competition. 2. The really "unreliable" transmissions were mated to their more powerful 6 cylinder motors, the issue is that those engines were way too beefy for the ATs they were paired with. This is why 6 cylinder Hondas from the late 90s and 2000s have NO resale value at all. Fun fact, the world famous million mile Accord is actually an automatic model, on its original transmission.
I’ve owned 3 cls and it’s my favorite Acura/honda i had a 97 cl and fell in love then I went and got a 03 type s and it had to be my favorite model of the cl then I went and got another 97 but it was lowered I probably would still have the 03 if I didn’t have a blowout and went into the center of the highway in the grass and it got stuck so the police said I can leave it there till the morning because it was about to rain and I came back 10 hours later and it was gone and come to find out the police towed it and called me 3 weeks later saying it was impounded and it was $600 to get it out with the damage to the bumper and headlight wires and radiator it wasn’t worth it
I think its because they redesign the TL for 04 which the CL was based on and didnt make a 2 door version of it. Many brands were phasing out 2 doors around that time as they weren't selling well.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed!!
Hi can you please help. I have 97 3.0 and having trouble with it's transmission any advice how maintenance it
Hopefully the upcoming Prelude (if it’s even happening) gets an Acura variant. We can finally have an Acura coupe again.
Foreal. I'll never sell my 9th gen Accord coupe 6-6MT but if they build that Prelude and it retails under 54k I'm getting it!
We have to stop loving SUVs and crossovers first!
Hopefully they don’t butcher it..
My first ever car. A 97 model with the 2.2 4cyl. I got it for $800 and you couldn’t tell me my car wasn’t cool. I miss it so much.
Die hard Honda fanboy here and a big fan of your videos, keep em coming!
I owned a 99 CL … then a 2001 TL …. Loved them both very much and for the time loaded with tech

It's funny how this video came out just 5 days before I purchased a 2001 Cl Type S.

One small thing to note, the UA4/UA5 TL (99-03) is actually a 6th gen Accord underneath, the the CL being the Accord coupe still underneath.

Idea for maybe a new video:
Honda models shared/rebadged with other manufacturers
I like that idea !
i love the 1st gen CL in manual transmission.there is one for sale with cloth seats for $3800 near me.
They are ultra rare! If its in halfway decent shape I say buy it!

i got a 99 3.0 in red,love it but finding parts has been a mild pain😅
The CL in blue looks sharp to me. I wonder if it was called Sonic Blue?? It was cool to hear you mention Comptech. I proudly rock Comptech swaybars. Take good care of your super rare manual CL.
My comptech 3.5cls is a beast. Currently building another drivetrain with blower but for 03aspec tl. Learned a few things here about first gen 👍
Never had a problem with Honda/Acura auto trans in the 90s 2000s
Jist got 2002 TL . Great car.
3.2 CL-S MT6 Anthracite metallic. No nav. Got it in Aug 2020. I’m never selling it !
Nice! I prefer them without the outdated nav, that way you dont lose the climate control knobs
Love my YA4 CL-S and my UA5 TL
ah my first car 6 speed cls what a fucking gem

The first gen automatic cls transmission was trash though both my first gens trans went out I miss the second gen so much though
Also my first gen’s were both 3.0 I never driven a 2.2 or 2.3 version but I feel the v6 was better than the 4 all around
I don't understand why the second gen Acura CL was discontinued after 2003, the second gen CL had only been out since 2000.
I think its because they redesign the TL for 04 which the CL was based on and didnt make a 2 door version of it. Many brands were phasing out 2 doors around that time as they weren't selling well.
that first gen looked like a cross between a accord and an infinity J30, yuk. 2nd gen looked like a smoothed out Legend coupe,.
The last coupe Acura ever produced? What about the RSX?
Thats a hatchback
❤❤
_iCrime_ is like _Cops_ on crack
OH MY GOD THE D17 JOKE IM IN SHAMBLES
A coupe would be great again. Many single dudes need cheaper vehicles

My Mom had a ‘96 CL; I always thought it had weird-looking taillights… 🫤
