Hello lecky jake, I'm an Electro-technical cadet from Panama, I would like to thank you a lot for this channel because is a good help for us the beginners in this carrer, I wish you a good campaing if you are on board at this moment.
Lecky jake is in god hands right now. He died last month 😢
I'm learning a lot from you. Please keep more videos.
Very basic information that majority of electricians out there don't fully understand. Coming from a motor reminder here :) great video, good work.
i've always wanted to find a way to run 220 3p motor with a supply of 380 3p and here i have it. thanks a lot for the blended explanation, both theory and practical. will keep an eye on your channel for great and useful content like this. wish you a great day!
Thank you Lecky jake , these types of vedios are very beneficial for beginners like me , thank you and keep making these types of vedika in future also.
Thnx so much jake..u make it so simple to understanding anybody. I like it
Thank you for your explanation, I hope you more success in your job
Wow kaya dito ako lagi nanunuod eh kasi ang linaw ng explanation ninyo. Hindi masakit sa ulo. Salamat po sir
a good practical lesson for the correctness of ordering any ship equipment ... And what would you do if there was no electrician on board .... now it’s a fairly common event .... As a result, our author simply saved Company from unforeseen cash costs........ Well Done !!!
nice work leckyjake na refresh nanaman ang mga ka lecky salute you sir god bless
At 440v, the star wired motor will get 15% above rated voltage. Each coil will see ~253 volts. Because of vector addition, the voltage at the star point is the line voltage divide by square root of three.
Is it safe for the motor with that 15% more voltage ?
Thank you Sir for invaluable contents
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Thanks a lot.
Thank you sir for making some basic technical video for beginners this video very informative. Make some more video like this. Thank you
I sea your elictrical lecture very aprase your video and get knowledge.very good sir.

Very simple
Thanks sir, 😊
thank you sir lecky jake
thank you...
If two loads is connected in a series connection and has a supply of DC. Simple you just add the voltage..But If it is in a three phase system and the loads is wye connected ,the rated voltage must be multiplied by √3.
This is right.. I got confuse about 3phase AC 230V motor from delta connection to Wye Connection.. Yes if DC it will add up but in AC 3phase system??
A 230v motor in delta will operate on 400 volts in wye. In Europe, 230 volt single phase loads are connected between line and neutral. The supply is always 400/230Y.
Tnks leky
thanks
It is not safe bro.it will burn the winding eventually. because in delta connection, phase current= line current/√3. But when you connect it in wye then, phase current=line current, which will be higher than the delta connection. So, winding will be overheated due to high phase current and possibly burn. By the way voltage on each phase will be 255v in wye connection and it is designed for 220v. So i believe, you do know what will happen then.
I dont how he converted it into 440V. But I think you also got the wrong idea because the Voltage @ Delta in Line to Line = Phase and The Voltage @ Wye in Phase = Line to Line /sqrt of (3). Therefore the current @ wye will become smaller since 220/sqrt(3)=127.
@@Link-tt6mw bro about current in wye, i think you are wrong. Because in wye connection phase and line is in series. So phase current= line current. In delta phase current=line current/√3. Please check your book.
@@faysalrusho3634 yup you are right. What i am referring to is the current in wye is smaller than the current in Delta. Because the supply line voltage in delta is equal to the load voltage.
@@faysalrusho3634 that's why we have wye delta starter in our motor control. Because in wye connection we have smaller current than the connection at delta.
The line current will be less, winding current the same (check the calculation with resistors). Only problem is the coils are getting 250+ volts when rated for 220 volts. If the motor is not designed well, the higher voltage will cause magnetic saturation.
❤️
The calculation is wrong. The phase/winding voltage in a Wye connected motor is
(Line Voltage)/sqrt of 3
440/sqrt of 3 = 254.3 Volts
Therefore, each winding is subjected to a Voltage of 254.3 volts, when it is supposed to be only connected to 220v.
Is this possible? Yes but it will greatly affect the motor's lifetime and health and it will also run at a higher temperature due to more current running in the windings compared to its supposed rated operating current.
Dont take this the wrong way tho Sir Lecky Jake, I really find your videos very helpful and informational, saludo!!!
I was thinking the same.
I was gonna say the same thing but luckily you already did.
I'm a REE, this is true.
please make a video about avr droop settings explanation. bonvoyage ka leckyjake.👍👍
👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Good day Sir, Your video are very valuable, please make the video on 440 volts motor starter panel control circuit troubleshooting. Thanks 👍👍
Sir good day.
What is your bases or how you justify if electric three phase motor o compressor need to run in part winding operation or wye dleta operation.
Pleased make a video for this topic.
Thank you in advance.
Can you talk about the Fire on the Carnival Freedom ship. What you think might have caused it?
Sir Lecky is that really the marking partner for the 220 volts coz most motors that I open states u1 and W2
V1and u2
W1 and v2 that's for the delta
interesting
In direct online(DOL) starter always connect the motor cables in WYE/STAR. It is not advisable in bigger motor ratings as the inrush and running current is high as compared to delta. in VFD even if it is small motor you should connect it in delta.
But in star we don't get enough speed
For small motors we can use Delta connection
@@rajatawasthi4769 there are things you need to consider before doing the connection. Energy wise, application, what type of controls they used. Don’t be stupid unless you want expensive repair. If you used delta using DOL then you have high value of running current means high electric consumption bill and the possibility of burning the motor winding. Don’t look at on the speed because it is already measured during the design process.
Hule!! Nagtagalog kadin lecky jake hahahha
Pilipino ka pala sir😆
This y connection is possible for using for long time rotation?
Hello leckyjake, How do you convert 3phase 380v motor to 3phase 220v?
Howdy sir
Greeting from Spain 🇪🇸 🛳
Hey Jake. I'm an 2nd engineer on an old tug boat. Do you think I can learn more in a newer boat big tanker or a tug? Thanks
i suggests to go a bigger vessel. you will have a lot of hands on to a different machineries which will enhance your capabilities
Thank you for the lesson as always. i have a question: the motor is made for 220v so does insulation of motor, is it okay for insulation of motor(winding) to supplied it with 440v ? tnx.
Wye connection, so it will become series 440V it will divide into two coil. Still 220V
Hello leckyjake . Ask k LNG may experience k b s oil Tanker .. panu po checking ng cargo control console KC nag shutdown sya..
and 440 is 3 phase systemm, also 220 V is a 3 phase system in USA standart NEC , but un europe 220 is a single phase , from here is a confusion check ou video "split phase system " in usa and compare it with 3 phase system in europe
Brother jake. Pwd bang ung 440v 3p ay supllyn ng 400v 3phd.? Slmat sa sagot GOD BLESS.
How to join assistant AIR CON technician in cruises lines any job site.
But changing to Wye configuration will cause current increase doesnt that affect the motor
not possible WITHOUT DUAL VOLTAGE MOTOR OR GOING THROUGH TRANSFORMER. DELTA LINE TO LINE IS THE SAME AS WYE LINE TO LINE.
you are right it is impossible, but someone is trying to ..... the corect way is this - ua-cam.com/video/nuhxqZJYKhQ/v-deo.html, the european method to switch from a 400 V to 220 V include a power capacitor
Mr jake
I saw you changed power plug.
1) why did u change?
2) how did you change?
1. Because the 220V 3ph plug won't fit into the 3ph 440V outlet outside.
2. Chop off the 220V 3phase plug and wire in a new 440V 3 phase plug.
that`s ok but in a long run it`s not advisable because the winding and insulation heat up more easily to cause a fire.
Does converting from delta to star effect the speed?
Also I think in star, the current will increase to 4.041 Amp
It was converted to star, but also the voltage is also increased. The voltage on each pole will be almost the same, so the speed, slip, and current will be the same. However the insulation will have more stress.
Good pm sir.
Pwede pa explained diba pag delta is Yung motor naka high speed? At kapag wye is naka low speed? Bakit sa video mo ay mababa voltage Ng delta kesa WYe?
Salamt sa explain sir. 🙏💕💕💕
But sir, why add the two 220 voltage? Isn't the formula fo wye connection is VL = √3•VΦ
ua-cam.com/video/nuhxqZJYKhQ/v-deo.html
Hi sir, I'm concern about the ampacity of the conductors and it may damage in a long run, because if the voltage increases, current also increases. And the insulation of the motor may deteriorate since higher voltage is being applied where the motor is designed only for 220V.
Line voltage is the same
current is the same coz phase voltage is the same
In this case the motor will even draw little current when connected 440 3p, when voltage increases current reduces, compared to what it could draw when connected to 220v 3p.
hello Sir just a Clarification at your diagram say @6:12 Delta Connection U1V2 , V1W2, W1V2, but in actual @11:20 says U1W2, V1U2 W1V2.... Does affect if we follow ur diagram at 6:12 in real world?? thank you sir
It will only reverse the rotation of the motor
Nice video please dear no gevie me answer why please
Good morning sir leckyjake.
Motor control and more motor controls.
I kinda wanted to see the motor nameplate.
correct
pwede bang vice versa?440 3p to 220 3p?
Oo naman. Ibalik mo sa delta.
Sir its not 440v....when you leave 3rd phase open then only it will be 440 between 2 phase... according to your connection it will be 220*√3 ....it will work but not with full efficiency .... kindly check voltage with voltmeter
the line voltage is supplied from the ships transformers at 440V. Each winding of the motor will see a phase voltage of 440V / √3. So approx. 250V, which is slightly higher than the rated insulation value of the windings.
You are right but see the video of his explanation 220+220= 440 it can't be like that.
there is diference between star delta in europe and usa , such diference is like 50Hz and 60 Hz . I will show you link to USA standart star delta conection or how to connect electrical motor from 440 V to 220 V - ua-cam.com/video/nuhxqZJYKhQ/v-deo.html
Hindi po ba mas bababa dapat ang Voltage sa Load kapag ginawang wye connection kasi magiging 220V 440V/sqrt of (3). Naguguluhan ako patulong naman guys pano naging 440V talaga yung Voltage non? 😁
The supply voltage is 440V, since he converted the connection to wye so the motor phase voltage will be 250V(440/1.73). Still a bit higher than 220V rated voltage, it will affect the motor lifespan in the long run. I am sure that Jake is fully aware including all mathematical calculation. But for simpler illustration, he opted to explain it that way.
@@antonioreyes7476Sir I just want to ask, Since it's in wye connection and the voltages in each phases became smaller. Is the motor will become slower? Thanks, btw I'm still a student and still learning 😁
@@Link-tt6mw yes and no. In general, the motor speed slows down in wye connection because Vp is smaller than Vl, that's why we have soft start or wye/delta starter. But for Leckyjake example, the motor runs at rated speed or even higher because that motor is rated 220V, and the phase voltage is 254V (supplied by 440V and motor is configured in wye).
@@antonioreyes7476 Thank You sir! ❤️
@@antonioreyes7476 I would like to know what the voltages actually are on the ship I would have expected 240/415 like most of the world uses! 220/440 seems like North American 240/480 power but that’s seems odd then if you have single phase 220 outlets? Guess I’m confused on what standard they ship is really using!
440/1,73=254,3 not 220 ))
