      Brindleface yup cause you totally don't need the dog and you didn't pay for it so yeah go ahead and take it. those people are stupid why would they do that! I mean they come up and ask to keep the dog and not even care about her I would walk up to her and buy her stuff again and take her too her car and give the stuff to her

      I feel like maybe they saw her struggling and were offering to hold the leash or something or just watch him while she gets everything in order? Needless to say that's not what you should do, but some people are just ignorant and try to "help" in the wrong way? That's one possibility.

    • @gerimarchant3882
      @gerimarchant3882 7 років тому +42

      This was my immediate thought as well. I used to volunteer with a dog training society that trained service dogs and I ran into that problem all the time as sometimes I would have to fake an "attack" so the trainer could train the dog what to do. We would do this in the center at first till the dog mastered it, then moved onto public places. We got a similar reactions from the public.

    • @SoulDevoured
      @SoulDevoured 7 років тому +23

      Yeah I'd like to think they have good intentions and are just ignorant. The dog is there to take care of her, it's not a normal dog that might be a burden to another person in that situation. But people rarely understand that service dogs are not normal dogs.

      To be fair, they may have asked to 'pet' her dog. And she misunderstood, due to her situation.

    A few days ago I was at Target and I saw a lady with a service dog, and I was really impressed because there were a lot of people around, and for 20 minutes no one that I saw was trying to interact with the dog. They glanced over, but then just went on their way, and I was really glad that everyone was being respectful and knew what to do. I even saw a mom and dad explaining to their kids what a service dog was. It made me really grateful that even though some people are jerks, there are still good respectful people out there.

      Wish I had that, my dog is a pup and I have had too many people get sucked in by the cute factor, obviously she is service, they only let service in the store and she is labeled, and if you watch us for a second we are actively training, stop, wait, doors, turn left, turn right, stay with me, look at me, step easy. She gets a little too focused to stop and sit, but we are working on that, it is the only thing we have trouble with in the store but I can see why, the minute she sits everyone thinks she is free. Thanks for JB here I was inspired to get my service dog and take her to the store, we met my DH in the store with the wagon and she just walked to him like just matter of fact and no problems with anything, just those trying to sneak up and pet her. I try hard to be nice, but just say sorry working.

    "May I take your dog?" -- never let your guard down.
    With Parkinson's my face will "mask" (no expression). People will approach my Golden SD, and suddenly look up at me and do a 180 and leave. Ya, good thing (bad days I tend to slur words, oh fun). Other day a couple of kids wanted to approach her, but I heard the Mom call them back "She is helping him walk, don't disturb her". Thank You Mom!

    • @keltiqrennee
      @keltiqrennee 7 років тому +17

      Gorden Wood I have tried using those scooters they are painful that's one of the reasons why people who are in pain don't like to use them because they jerk you when you press on the gas you are jerk forward they are not comfortable because of the position of your body has to be in to be in them the seats are horrible would you want to put your butt where Millions will not Millions but millions of other butts have been no not I that's why I have my own wheelchair that's beside the point the thing is is it yes those carts are there for people who need them but they are horribly uncomfortable and they are horribly painful and sometimes it's easier to stick with the pain that you can control by walking then it is to go into a chair when you don't know when it's going to jerk you around

    "Hay can I take your dog?" never got that question with my SD but the one I get a lot "How much is it to breed your dog with mine?!" my service dog is a malimute GS mix but every one want his pups. Then they get mad when I tell them he is Neutered and old. I just don't get ppl.

    • @lexalina132
      @lexalina132 7 років тому +19

      Lunar Wolf to be fair, the breeding one may be because service dogs are so well behaved, and Alaska malimutes are beautiful. still kinda weird, and them getting huffy isn't cool, but I think some genuinely think it would be a good line of pups with such a sire as your dog :)

      I've gotten that so many times! It's so weird! Even 2 younger men who were like yelling at me about it. It wasn't enough that I just said no, I had to further say hes neutered so its not possible. Then they started yelling at me about how they could tell he was a girl and why was I lying and I should just sell them my SD. Mostly I just get yelled at about how since my SD is a pitbull he must be fake.

    I worked as a barista and we had a few come in with services dogs. One frequent customer who was blind would come in and one day, someone yelled at him not to bring his "mutt" into a cafe. Dogs aren't allowed. I obviously told him to pay no mind and continue on and I kindly told her, if you have a problem with a service dog doing his job, then you can leave and she did just that. Some people have no minds at all.

    People are crazy. My dog is very nervous and I take her out to try and get her more comfortable and people will walk up to her and pet her. I even had someone try to feed her some food that had raisins and chocolate in it. People have no sense whatsoever.

    • @lilbobtail
      @lilbobtail 7 років тому +18

      Ashley Murray My dog is a herder and has strong herding instincts but is also nervous so anytime anything moves in a way he does not approve of, he will bark sharply and lounge (but never bite, just a quick movement meant to spook sheep into moving). small children are main offenders yet since he's small, parents often plop their kid right onto my dog without even asking and it usually ends in the kid crying and the parent threatening to have my dog put down.
      Like, you see me FAR away from the main traffic of the park, frequently praising and treating my dog when things wizz by and he doesn't chase down that kid on a bike even though it's clear that he really REALLY wants to (hyper focus, intense stare leaning forward, sometimes even low "buffs", looking rapidly from me to the bike like, "please mom, he's goin too fast, he's not following MY RULES") Yeah. That seems like the kind of dog that won't flip out if you encourage your toddler to run screeching at. Yet when I take my parents dog out for training who is a 70lb fluffy love ball who LOVES children and is very careful and patient, if a toddler starts running at her, the parent ALWAYS snatches them up and scolds them about how she looks mean and will bite.
      People have no sense.

    • @laurainthesky8372
      @laurainthesky8372 7 років тому +4

      I can so relate to that! I have two dogs, younger of whom is a very nervous creature. He doesn't like most men, unexpected movements, people running, shouting or the worst of all people looking straight at him or coming too close when it's dark. I have some control over the situation (we are training) if I can see it coming before it actually happens, but like, if a three-year-old suddenly lunges themself towards us because their parent couldn't keep an eye on them then wth can I do? I know he won't bite but he will bark like there's no tomorrow and then of course that is my fault. The other thing that drives me up a wall is drunk people who stare at him and start talking to him in a drunken voice and lean (hover) over him to pet him. He will completely lose his shit, and they still won't stop even when I explain he can't handle that type of behavior. I have had people try to pick him up saying "but all dogs like me, he'll like me too". Like, what? 😬

    Those 2 guys are iddiots! I had a really dizzy spell from my meds and thank god i had my service dog and my walker with me! I almost fainted,everything went black,i felt sick and asked this guy on his phone for help he stopped looked at me and kept walking! like really! so i ended up sitting on my walker for a bit while holding my service dog then went into the community centre and right away the first aid guy had me on oxygen but couldn't find my pulse! He was so young and shaking! Then 5mins later the ambulance came. They checked my blood sugar and my heart etc. They took me to the hospital cause my heart was pumping so hard and still dizzy. So they figured it was cause I never ate all day and probably from my meds. It was so scary! I'm glad i have my sd! She makes it so i can leave the house and so i can make it through my outing. Your lucky to be so fortunate. My parents don't take my hypoglycemia very seriously. Even when I went into diabetic shock my mom refused to let my aunt take me to the ER because of the cost. I passed out at school once from low blood sugar and the nurse was genuinely surprised when my parents refused to pick me up from school. Once I can afford it and am 18 I want to get a service dog for it. It's a bigger problem then most think.

    EDIT UPDATE 5/7/17: My "New To Chronically Jaquie? Start Here!" videos are finished. Look in the description of this video to learn all about my chronic illnesses, Harlow and her job, my infusions, and my port. I hope you find them helpful!
    Hey everyone! I am shocked that this video got so many views, literally did NOT expect that. I am so thankful for all the kind words and support y'all have offered! I know a lot of you are asking questions but there is NO way I can keep up with all these comments (although I tried, haha).
    1). The mask if for my Angioedema and Immunodeficiency. It filters allergens and germs.
    2). Harlow is my medical alert and mobility service dog. She performs tasks such as item retrieval, syncope (passing out) alert, deep pressure therapy for pain and more.
    3). I have several genetic mutations that cause my symptoms, and my symptoms just so happen to fit the diagnostic criteria for all my chronic illnesses. Some of my disabilities include POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), Ehlers Danlos Syndrome III, Gastroparesis, severe immunodeficiency, and more. Don't forget, not all disabilities are visible!
    4). That thing in my chest is a power port, it allows for constant IV access. My rescue meds for my Angioedema Attacks are IV, and I get IV infusions 3 times a week.
    I'm currently working on videos that detail my chronic illnesses, Harlow's job, etc so new viewers have a place to gather info. :)
    Sub and watch my daily Vlogs to joins us on our adventures! Thank you so much for your interest, you are helping us reach our goal of spreading awareness for chronic illnesses and service dogs alike!
    I really hope people see this comment lol. Edit: I figured out how to pin this comment, yay!

    I am quite new to the service dog world - my Ruby was trained by an organisation specialising in training these dogs. I got her (my mobility SD - I have Spina Bifida)) three weeks ago and now I encounter problems on every corner. In our neigbourhood, people can walk their dog off leash and often have no idea where their dog is and during our morning walk today I met an older lady. Her small dog was bothering Ruby who got antsy because of the dog sniffing her everywhere, I politely told the lady to call the dog back to her, because Ruby was really nervous and since my accident when she pulled me out of my wheelchair because of a free running dog, I was nervous too, but the lady did nothing, only after several warnings from me (5 minutes later) she finally called the dog back, grumbling under her breath about something. I have no idea how to deal with these people. Do you have any idea how to deal with this? Thanks for advice!

    Hi this is Ruth I have a service dog and a service dog in training nine-month-old DDR German Shepherd and many people come up to me and asked me how much it cost which I thought was very odd question. Come to find out from talking to some of my friends at the state police that there are scams where people will ask you and then they will try to take your dog hopefully that wasn't happening to you at Sam's but you never now as you know people can be quite odd when you're doing public access so just to give a heads up on that and I'm sure Judd can give you some pointers what to watch out for is if you don't have enough to do when you're disabled and trying to keep track of yourself and your Service dog. Don't need to worry Or scare you but just trying to give you a heads up on that issue you're very brave woman dealing with all your illnesses training service dog and the vlogging, I have a great deal of respect for you and what you do. Ruth from Ct.

      I do not recommend raw diets because they are really easy to not get enough nutrients, over feed, and cause infections in the pet that cooked food would prevent. No matter where you get your meat, whether it be Costco or Trader Joe's, there is always a chance of Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli, or many other bacteria. Not only that, but there is no nutritional benefit for a dog to eat raw meat vs cooked. Any "digestive enzymes" that are denatured by the cooking process are already found in much larger numbers within the dog to begin with, so from a medical standpoint, the downfalls greatly outweigh the gains of a raw diet. (PS. i am a 3rd year vet student)

    • @analarson2920
      @analarson2920 7 років тому +4

      I don't understand your thoughts on digestive enzymes with relationship to cooked food being safer? Please explain. Thank you.

    • @JessKalinow
      @JessKalinow 7 років тому +12

      +Ana Larson digestive enzymes are what a lot of raw dieters use as a reason to feed their dogs raw. They believe that the digestive enzymes in the meat is denatured during the cooking process and therefore, the dog does not digest their food as efficiently as raw meat. But amount of digestive enzymes nor whether they are intact or denatured makes no difference in the animal. Dogs produce the enzymes themselves, so in this respect, eating the raw or cooked meat makes no difference. But, for the overall health of an animal, cooked meat is healthier because it has the same amount of nutrients but also does not have the chances for the dog to be inoculated with many GI tract bacterial infections

    You should go to a butcher instead, they will give you a deal on large quantities of meat. The problem then becomes where to store it if you don't have a deep freezer. My dog gets raw as well as homemade, nothing commercial. I try to make a month's worth at a time and freeze the rest. I had to push myself to get to the store today because he was going to be out by dinner time. It was soooo hard! I don't think healthy people really understand how difficult just driving to the store is. My husband doesn't know how to prepare my dog's food the way I do so I have to do all the cooking and/or prep as well and I am absolutely aching afterwards. I do not have the same condition as you, but I am also disabled with a service poodle!

    I think it's entirely likely that the 2 men saw you were in distress, not knowing what to do, they were offering to hold your dogs leash. Granted, that's not much help, but if you consider that a regular dog might run off, they may have thought Harlow would do the same. I think they were simply trying to be helpful.

    Hello! First off, I love your channel! watching your journey and your positive attitude helps me so much when I am having a bad day with my disability. I saw the part about your epi pen and I wanted to let you know about a different brand called Auvi Q, which is an alternative to the epi pen. I have very frequent reactions that require epinephrine so I go through them fairly quickly but the great thing about the Auvi Q is that they are $0 out of pocket if you have insurance (and theyre generally easier to use and hurt less than epi pens).
    Thanks for inspiring so many people to stay positive!

      Yeah, that was my thought too. I mean, they were probably just trying to help out? They saw something was wrong and wanted to help by holding the dog in case she passed out or something. And yes, I know the dogs have harnesses with signs on them that says they are working dogs. I get super angry when people come up to service dogs and just ask to pet them, but this wasn't like that. They were most likely just trying to be helpful. Maybe they even saw that it was a service dog and understood that she was really sick and wanted to help :)

I've subbed and been binge watching your informative videos and vlogs and I have to say you are just amazing. Its so comforting to see someone bringing awareness to the difficulties of chronic illnesses. I'm 21 and I've been chronically ill since birth, with more and more diagnoses coming as i get older. I've always tried to stay positive, i was tearing up watching your video about positivity bc it was so wonderful to know others share the same sentiments. Still, I've always felt like a sort of outcast. All the time spent in the hospital over the years, the odd medical environment familiarity, people often not understanding my illnesses and the issues they cause. Its just...so refreshing to know that I'm not as alone as I think I am. That there are others out there who understand the difficulties of chronic illness and still live their life to the best of their abilities despite that. Keep on keeping on, girl!
    P.s. Harlow is amazing. ❤🐶
