At 38:32, I think that scene is the kid banging on the locked doors of the pizza place trying to get out after William locked them both inside the building, while Afton is watching him try and escape in vain, savouring the moments before he kills Edward.
I like how Battington portrayed the Withered Animatronics here. They're not mindless possessed robots with vengeance on the mind and attack anyone they assume is their killer. They're actually self aware that Edward wasn' their killer and were warning him that someone else was in the restaurant with him.
'corse they did, we're programmed to protect children. Great thing is, it's not assault and battery if I need to get physical, it's an industrial accident... just like car manufacturing robots haha.
The hidden smiles thing to me sounds like the animatronics were happy that Edward was there, but once they realized William was there they shed them in exchange for trying to warn him in the unheard cries.
I saw it as the opposite. They were happy William was there (so they could get him), but shed their smiles when they realised there was a child here too.
Could mean that, though since they made no actual moves against him I'm less fond of that interpretation... then again they never make moves against Afton specifically even though they attack security guards all the time, so up to interpretation yeah.
@@GraceCambiriI like this interpretation as well. The animatronics initially not caring much for Edward being in the same building with William Afton, until they realized that a child is trapped inside a place with a child murderer lurking.
I feel like the fear response to something moving at unnatural speeds triggers our predator/prey response. If that thing can move that fast, I won't be able to escape it!
yeah, I have spent a LOT of time over analyzing my fears and that is exactly what that fear ended up being about, If it's faster than you then you are at a disadvantage if combat occurs and running away isn't an option.
Honestly, super duper fast dangerous animals like cheetahs don’t scare me as bad as dangerous animals that run around the same speed as a human. If I was being chased by a cheetah, I would know I was going to die and be able to accept that. If I was being chased by something I could potentially escape from, that feeling of uncertainty and urgency would be far more terrifying!
I think it also might remind us of seizures. It would make sense to be instinctively afraid of witnessing a seizure, because they're often a sign of a serious neurological issue, and neurological issues like that are sometimes symptoms of deadly contagious diseases. Usually if an animal in the wild is seizing or moving unnaturally in some way, it's a sign of rabies or another disease that could make them very dangerous. And if a human has a seizure or is moving unnaturally, it's usually a sign of a medical emergency. In either of those scenarios it's probably a good instinctive reaction to be disturbed by unnatural movement, because it's a sign something is wrong and you should either get away or get help (or both).

I know no one cares, but the "he's hiding in the shadows" song is actually one of the early Mac text-to-speech voice. I think this one was called "Good news." The melody it sings is built into the voice. The "Bad news" one was actually shown in the recent LTT video.
38:50 I see it more as Edward banging on those storefront security gates (like the ones you would see at a mall when a store is closed so no one can break in)
So I have an idea which I imagine is what Battington meant to show throughout the second video. When Bonnie talks about ‘shedding our hidden smiles’ I imagine that to reference 24:18 where you can see a spirit playing a little trick on Edward by smiling at him on the shelf next to Freddy’s shoulder. I imagine this is just the spirits having a bit of fun because they see a new ‘friend’. Then at 25:15, I believe the static is actually one of the spirits if not the same one from before trying to warn Edward by interfering with his equipment and trying to get his attention the best that they can. I believe that the spirit figures out it’s not working and stops, but if you look closely you will notice that as soon as the static stops Bonnie starts to talk like as if the spirit is moving from the camera to the animatronic. I believe the reason the spirits are helping Edward is because they know he’s just a teenager and is innocent. I also think that the flashes where you see the animatronics twitching is a way of showing their frustration and anger from not being able to stop their own killer from claiming another victim this time being Edward. The audio is screechy and whispery which I imagine is the spirits trying to shout and warn Edward but because they are spirits it’s all just a whisper to him. That’s also what I think the face of the animatronic on the screen is as well, a spirit trying their best to warn or help, but obviously we know that it’s helpless. I hope that all made some sense and that’s how I imagine this video to be about. 😎
Yeah the lack of proper build up is the reason why people got tired of analog horror because the majority use shock value via intense gore and loud sounds for cheap scares.
As someone already pointed out in there own video, there are some ghostly children in the abandoned exploration portion of this video. Most noticeably at the 24:29 mark of the video and a figure that disappears at the 23:44 mark
I think what makes something that moves very fast scary is the fact that your fight or flight senses tell you that flight isn't an option, and depending on how big and bulky it is, fight is prolly not an option neither, and at that point, what do you do? You just stand there and die
I’m so nestled. The calm blue is like a kiss on the cheek and the warm orange is like a fuzzy blanket. I feel calm and at the same time lively. 10/10 nestling.
MatPat and Ash joking about a petrichor-flavored AirUp pod, but honestly, my favorite flavor in those Every Flavor Jelly Bean packs is "dirt" specifically because it tastes like earth after rain smells, so I would legit try that. Also, the bit the Beatles did imitating a Marlboro commercial was on a train, in the documentary showing their first U.S. visit, and it was indeed John and George 😄
The only one I could watch on my own was Foxy's tape, but I think part of it was that the hallway scene harkened back to a few anime tropes, so I'm that lense everything made more sense and felt funnier
This right here. This is FNAF at it's best. No remnant, no artificial intelligence and computer viruses or whatever the later games tried to shove down our throats. Only haunted pizzerias and serial killers. I really hope the movie takes inspiration from creators like Battington and realises what made FNAF popular in it's hay day. William Afton isn't some mad scientist obsessed with immortality. What makes him truly terrifying is that he's just a man in a suit, and his victims are children with no chance to fight back. This gives FNAF a sense of realism even though it's a ghost story because the main and ONLY villain is just a twisted person who could exist in real life.
Well, I always felt that there was a thin line between stealing content and adding content to someone else's. I feel that mat does a good job at staying in the ladder category.
Hey MatPat, there's actually a behind the scenes video now. It reveals that the scene was actually Edward trying to get out of the pizzeria but couldn't because of the locked gate that trapped him in the room with the Golden Hare.
As a long time viewer of GT Live, I absolutely welcome the change in the backdrop! Feels really fresh, gentle and purposeful in its placement of all the props! Good job.
34:38 this is why I think someone should make a haunted house full of things that are just not quite right like everything including the actors are just off
I think "we shed our hidden smiles" is in relation to the spirits happy that no kids are in harms way and maybe William will be stopped. But then a new fawn comes to play, they know the kid won't escape and so they shed their hidden smile, sad another will join them
Here's my take: The spirits in the animatronics were happy to see the kid, but couldn't show it (hidden smiles). When they realized Afton was there, they tried to warn the kid, but he didn't understand (our cries were not heard). So, the kid ran, got cornered, got killed - and since there wasn't any suite availalbe, into the vent he was stuffed.

I strongly suspect MatPat's musical theater bones will resonate, perhaps even sing along! >..^
been trying to think of ways to remake fnaf 1 to be a free roam thing and i think that these tapes have given me so much insight into how to make that compelling because the way it builds up tension and just has the main character patrolling the building while the animatronics dont pose an immediate threat even while theyre moving is honestly so much better at amping up the scariness factor than just having the robots be angry and murderous from the jump. like you aren't even sure what the threat even is yet, but theres definitely something wrong here
I do agree with Ash - the new setup does feel a little more "professional" than the old setup, to me it does feel a little less cozy than before, but for me i think that's just the colour of the background, but it'll take some time to adjust I think.
17:21 the tune reminds me of Pomp and Circumstance (it was the song that the graduates of my HS walked to their seats with)(I was in band for my first 3 years of HS)(I still have the sheet music)
Months later if u have headphones on you can hear Edward crying as he’s running away from William. It’s like a mix of sounds during that crazy moment and very depressing when you hear it
I do think it's still possible Edward crawled into the vents himself, based on "Run, little fawn. Before all hope disappears." I just feel like it's an odd phrase to say to a just murdered spirit that would not be bound to anything anyway to keep it from leaving; not so odd to someone still not dead yet. I believe Edward managed to escape somehow after Afton jumped him, and tried to crawl through the vents, but was already injured/vents were just a little too slim.
36:40 it could be a reference to the Great Gatsby with the eyes on the billboard. I forget the name of the guy in the book but it symbolizes something like always being watched or god always watching. It could be a parallel for Afton always watching
I feel like this new space feels more professional and polished but it’s kind of an intimidating vibe. I kinda miss the more loose and lofi vibe. It’s like the polished vibe of the set doesn’t fit with the chill hang-out vibe of the content. I’m glad you guys were able to make a more dedicated space to it though and I hope things continue to give you new opportunities for cool stuff.
To me "shed our hidden smiles" is the animatronics talking about how they stopped acting like 'happy' mascots and being more horror ghosts trying to scare the kid away before he gets got by Springtrap.
19:20 I like the tension jump scares BUT big but, for me, if you can see something moving, you just have to know somethings gonna happen in 5-10 seconds. (But I do like it,this is so good)
The worst part about this VHS tape is Edward can easily run as fast as he can into Afton as he's wearing the suit and cause it to go off, but because of rumor's and haunting stuff circled around Freddy's gets to Edwards head, causing him to run away from the Yellow Hare. His fear of the unknown got to him leading him to his death.
Would’ve just hid behind Bonnie lol, he seemed like he was nice trying to point out Afton. Also wonder why he had his face but then lost it by the time he was doing the whole “run little fawn” thing.

Anyone else notice how even though Bonnie warned the kid he didn't do anything to help him escape. Its clear he can move so why not assist in protecting the child? Ive always wondered why they never tried to prevent the children’s deaths if they could move.
I imagine it takes too much energy/effort or that the spirits are still too scared of Afton to interfere
@@prince_damien_of_darknesscould be
I mean, maybe it was Afton. He at least helped Henry make the animatronics so I wouldn’t be surprised if he did something so that they can’t hurt him
Maybe they are lonely
Games you should definitely play and theorize about next.
1. In sound mind
2. Killer frequency
3. Cult of the lamb
4. Darkwood
5. Scp containment breach
YES!!
what is there in SCP though I mean there are theories but none i could think of from that game
There’s not much to theorise in Containment Breach. Most of that stuff can just be found on the SCP Wiki.
Mat already did cult of the lamb
Darkwood is phenomenal!
I LOVE that over time the bread has gotten progressively closer to falling and now is completely without the shelf, incredible storytelling
I like how battington never uses cheap jumpscares with his fnaf vhs episodes, he build up to the point and when its ready it comes up 10 fold
Spotted the 24 minute one but absolutely can't find the 23 minute one. Still, now that I know they're there, i'm way more creeped out

Matt is the only filter through which I can consume these battington videos without being plagued by nightmares 😂😅
Fnaf animations you should definitely watch next.

2. J-gems interviews
3. Dominoe animations sister location
4. St4tic Funtime diagnostic
5. Reachanimations animatronic maintenance fail
Well, I always felt that there was a thin line between stealing content and adding content to someone else's. I feel that mat does a good job at staying in the ladder category.
*latter
But yeah, I agree
Oh yeah, turning a 2 and half minutes and a 7 minutes video into a 44 minutes video is above and beyond what most reaction creators do.
37:50 I'm assuming Afton has cornered poor Eddy and he's banging on a grate or a window to try and get out which obviously doesn't work cos he ded.
36:52 pretty sure its the victim screaming for help while trying to bust out of the locked building
Anxiety Bread looks like a shoulder pet for Matpat
Hey MatPat, there's actually a behind the scenes video now. It reveals that the scene was actually Edward trying to get out of the pizzeria but couldn't because of the locked gate that trapped him in the room with the Golden Hare.
As a long time viewer of GT Live, I absolutely welcome the change in the backdrop! Feels really fresh, gentle and purposeful in its placement of all the props! Good job.
34:38 this is why I think someone should make a haunted house full of things that are just not quite right like everything including the actors are just off
"So, funny story... A dead body was found in this vent once..."
I’m glad someone else recognizes how amazing of a word Petrichor is. Every time it rains I make sure to find a way to use it in conversation lol.
As much as I'd like to compliment the new room/decor, I can't stop focusing on Matt camouflaging into the couch
I had the same reaction with the Toy Bonnie song thinking it would be “hiding in the sand”
fnaf VHS = more matpat insanity, looking forward to it!
I think "we shed our hidden smiles" is in relation to the spirits happy that no kids are in harms way and maybe William will be stopped. But then a new fawn comes to play, they know the kid won't escape and so they shed their hidden smile, sad another will join them
Here's my take:
The spirits in the animatronics were happy to see the kid, but couldn't show it (hidden smiles). When they realized Afton was there, they tried to warn the kid, but he didn't understand (our cries were not heard).
So, the kid ran, got cornered, got killed - and since there wasn't any suite availalbe, into the vent he was stuffed.
I love how Matt treats ash both as an equal and like a daughter

Boy he really just didn’t notice the face behind the shelf when Freddy fell. That woulda wigged him out.

The reasoning behind the film glitching like that is due to the fact that spirits, or ghosts, need energy to preform tasks. they can't produce there own energy so they gather it from objects around them, I believe in this moment the spirit/ ghost was drawing energy from the camera to poses or control bonnie
I'm honestly terrified of these types of videos..especially since they get posted at night when my brain likes to make up noises and sights around my house. But today I used my game theory fidget spinner to distract me and it helped a little..not much but it's something

28:52 When spring bonnie runs by edward, he’s looking at him the whole time. Maybe spring bonnie was just trying to make edward think he was safe so he would come out.
We're back to our "regularly" scheduled horror movie night staring beautifully grotesque animatronics with our Host MatPat and Co Host Ash.
When you want a break from horror, even if it has to wait for the passing of Spoopy Season, I hope to see this channel tackle "Stray Gods", maybe a few different play-throughs [perhaps by different people] with some time between. I strongly suspect MatPat's musical theater bones will resonate, perhaps even sing along! >..^
Ash and Mat are such friends and i love it
been trying to think of ways to remake fnaf 1 to be a free roam thing and i think that these tapes have given me so much insight into how to make that compelling because the way it builds up tension and just has the main character patrolling the building while the animatronics dont pose an immediate threat even while theyre moving is honestly so much better at amping up the scariness factor than just having the robots be angry and murderous from the jump. like you aren't even sure what the threat even is yet, but theres definitely something wrong here
38:30 That is very much Edward banging on the front door to the pizzeria.
I do agree with Ash - the new setup does feel a little more "professional" than the old setup, to me it does feel a little less cozy than before, but for me i think that's just the colour of the background, but it'll take some time to adjust I think.
my new favorite quote, "me after a hard day of having kids shoved into my stomach" -matpat

It’s like a mix of sounds during that crazy moment and very depressing when you hear it
OH 😀 that’s VERY depressing..
I loved how bread just looked like he was sitting on Mats shoulder some of the time😂
I do think it's still possible Edward crawled into the vents himself, based on "Run, little fawn.
I like the red eyes in these videos because they do kinda give the effect of their eyes using infrared technology
36:40 it could be a reference to the Great Gatsby with the eyes on the billboard. I forget the name of the guy in the book but it symbolizes something like always being watched or god always watching. It could be a parallel for Afton always watching
I was watching this and my dad came in the room. And he asked me if I was watching Blues Clues because of the background! I'M DYINGGGG 💀
when I first saw the back of toy bonnie I was like ok it's a toy animatronic, then he turned around and I said "oh no they made him bad"

Super dramatic reveal of the new background is sending me
So glad you’re covering this series! Would love to see you cover more of Battington’s work!
Matpat finally giving some more love to FNaF VHS makes me happy.

I used to hear the word penultimate all the time from my track coach whenever we were practicing triple jump, 'you need to be thinking about xyz during your penultimate step' or 'this is what your penultimate step should look like'
