I think the future will go into bigger sensors. Mostly because global shutter. Global shutter is a bless in more than one way, but it takes a hit in DR and ISO performance. And big sensors have better DR and ISO, but are slow. A way to cancel the shortcomings is to make global shutter big sensors. If someone find the way to do it in a cheaper way then it would be a win. Imagine a 44x33mm global shutter sensor. With a low pixel count it could be cheap enough to produce (20mp) and enough for great photo and video.

I would like to see a new hybrid camera from Lumix. The s5ii is two years old and really pushed more video centric options in that 6k range.
    Maybe a 8k full-time open gate.
Or a digital hotshoe that has different video outputs maybe timecode.
Maybe a phone app that sync multiple cameras. So you press record and all your studio cameras start rolling and you can edit it all fast.

Please, Canon, G1X mark iv! Small, capable cameras with manual controls are awesome to combine with a big / heavy full-frame as a 2nd camera. Give it a modern processor / autofocus. A faster aperture lens would be nice but not required because the small size is excellent. Just make it work as a webcam with USB-C charging, record 4k video, and have a mic port. Keep weather sealing!!

Hey Josh! Another great video and agree with your views. I think in addition to new cameras, the companies should step back and think about what they can do for customers with current cameras (software updates both free and paid) like better wireless, wifi and internet controls, better apps for camera control, anti-theft protection, option to use say CLog2 on cameras acknowledging there will be limitations say on Canon R5C, R7 etc. Monitoring tools on Sony FX3, FX30, LUMIX PDAF autofocus on older GH6, GH5 S5 etc. and the list goes on. There is so much scope for improvement opportunities. 😂 Thanks again for the value you provide with your videos. 🙏🏼

For Canon I would love to see each body get three variants: high MP, low MP, and APS-C. Starting with the R5II, come out with a 24 MP version and an APS-C version but with all the features of the R5II as released. You can call them R6III and R7II if you like. Do the same thing with the R1 body and RP/R8 body.

Maybe the opposite? Sony: same sensor in many bodies. Greg/Canon: Same body many sensors. I thought this up when the R5II came out... there would definitely be a market for the R5II with its complete feature set except it would be 24MP or APS-C (presumably cheaper). I hope the R6III is a 24MP R5II.

    another great vid 👌
hoping to see/wouldn't be surprised if Canon rolls out a new 'C-LOG 2.5' so to speak. Doesn't have to wildly improve contrast range, but something that handles shadow noise better and improves the slim EV tolerance would be a huge win for a lot of shooters. C-LOG2 can be overkill for lot of situations. For run-and-gun hybrid shooters, C-LOG 3 can be risky when you're on-the-go and scenes/situations are rapidly changing. Canon would really continue to gain their momentum with a new Log curve that was a bit more manageable both in the field and in post, esp if the rumors of an affordable 'C' body is in the works.
    thanks again for the content!

I am a Canon R8 user and am now not interested in new cameras for Canon as all are the best. But Canon needs to focus on the lens first. First, they need to decide which kit lens they will offer for APS-C as the existing one sucks (as a previous R10 user). Then please work budget a full frame 20mm F2.8 lens or F1.8 lens which can really compete with Sony's best vlog lens 20mm F1.8 G. Bring a Canon RF-S 17-55mm F2.8 constant aperture lens. Then change your R10 position. It needs C-log3 as well as a 32mp sensor with more autofocus points otherwise no one will spend extra money as they have R50.

  • @sidvicious3129
    @sidvicious3129 7 днів тому

I would love to see some of this. Canon isn’t going to go the FX3 route and give all of those features at the fx3 price because it would render the c80 irrelevant. People would then want a fx30 type of Canon, which would render the c70 irrelevant.
We can’t even get Canon to commit to lower price full frame third party lenses. Canon wants you to buy RF STM lenses, which are still higher priced than what Tamron and Sigma could offer. Canon did APSC third party only through Sigma and only after delaying with kicking and screaming along the way. I hope the in coming tariffs don’t hurt Fuji and Panasonic.

What I am really interested is a successor from Sony to the PXW-Z90 professional compact camcorder with the 1" sensor. I want something that can shoot 4k60p in the compact camcorder segment. All the compact camcorders currently shoot 4k30p. The Canon XA70 which came out in 2022 shoots 4k30p for example. The Panasonic HC-X1500 / HC-X2000 shoot 4K60 but they're not 1" sensor but 1/2.5" unfortunately. If you want 4k60 from a 1 inch camcorder you have to upgrade to the higher end of the line which are bigger in size, still 1" sensor but physically the cameras are quite a bit larger, namely we're talking here about the Panasonic HC-X2 / HC-X20, the Canon XF605 and the Sony PXW-Z200 / NX800 which came out in 2022, 2021 and 2024 respectively. The Canon XF605 is due for a change soon imo but the compact segment is what I wanna see developed more tbh.

I’d love camera/tech/review people to have some gumption in 2025 and make real conclusions. “Has camera tech plateaued? Yes and no” is a non-answer. There are scenarios in which you can springboard into a conversation with this, but your explanation just drives the nail into “yes” territory. Every one of you reviewers abuses this same answer, to the point that it makes me angry to even hear. I’m truly not saying this to be mean, and I’m not sure if you’re afraid of some sort of backlash or what, but be decisive and stand by it. You have a good presentation style. It might make you stand out from the legion of hypebeast sitting down talking head schlock content creatures that you’re competing with.
Adding to the conversation - yes it has plateaued. Cameras are badge engineered like GM cars these days. The only major “innovations” you’re seeing are for small mobile phone cameras or DJI widgets, and even then, they’re just playing catch up to the big boys. Plateauing is ok. It’s ok to say we’ve leveled off. That doesn’t mean we’ve given up on pushing the limits or something. The R1 is a disappointment. The Alpha One II is a disappointment. It may be a bit until we make another breakthrough. We may never. Moores law.

Excellent tone and information as always but I’m not sure the endless talk about sensor size DR is relevant. Form factor and function is surely far more important. I don’t really understand the focus on mirrorless body design if the channel is video centric. This content seems firmly focused on the hybrid user and content creators with a very small footprint. I get it that you shoot real estate so drones and gimbals are part of your set up but cinematography is really all about light and modifiers and grip not camera technology. Just a thought. Thx for the quality work. Btw The two points about evf and audio modules were imo the real areas that need discussion and pressure put on manufacturers as is built in on body tx wireless compatibility with simple rx systems or if not better proprietary wireless control like RED. Thx

for Sony the a7v is the less exciting like the r line.. Sony is making a lot of mistakes.. and it's pretty much unbearable.. the only interesting camera is the A7S and they are not revamping the line.. so I guess I will start to think canon .. if the R6III will have 6k it wiòò be a big plus along with clog2.. and faster sensor readout. So I am pretty mad about Sony .. not liking at all the evolution and the lack of a 6k camera.. with at this point is absurd.. we have 8k 60p since many years.. now..
