    I have this very same setup and bike and with my 2 children (2 and 3yo) we have now driven 1500km/1000miles during the first 5 months, including snowy winter! :) I recommend this bike!! And this video has been one of the best going through the details. The bike has plus and minus points, but 95% is positive. The 5% is only because some compromises have to be made and one bike can not be for all purposes. I hope the videos in the future have children in them. We have installed Bluetooth speakers and we listen a lot of children books. Also the tray is perfect for having LEGO:s for the kids. In the winter we had sheep fur on the seats which was essential on longer than 15min drives. I posted a couple of guestions below and these basically are the minus points. I love how stable this bike is when we have load of two children and backpacks with us, very good on gravel road and easy bumpy forest trails. Thank you again for these videos!

      Hey, I’ve got question regarding transporting this bike: the question is how can I transport this bike with a car (i.e. for vacation)? Do I need dedicated trailer or maybe it could be divided in two parts?

    Thank you for the best review I've seen on a cargo bike. In particular, I liked the representation of the suspension, also the slow motion scenen.
    As a German, I had to smile a little when you pronounce Riese & Müller. :-)
    All the best and keep going.

    Very thorough overview of the bike! Another excellent clip Chris, and great videography Tara! I especially loved the slow-mo recording of the suspension’s articulation over rough pavement and when coming off the kerb. Really nice illustration of R&M’s control tech at work!

    My 38kg 9 month old puppy and I have cycled 1200kms in the past 3 months on the Load 75 Vario HS, dual battery, high sidewalls with tarp. We love it. Problem is that here in Europe there are regulations on such a bike, they differ between France and Germany and others but basically the HS models are not allowed on cycle paths, have to display a licence plate (so must be registered, taxed, insured) in some EU countries a driver’s licence is required. These regulations are tightening as e-bikes become more popular. Here in Ireland the government is passing a new road and traffic bill that will strictly regulate our freedoms. I bought the bike instead of a car, I don’t want a licence, tax and insurance are expensive (especially with dog) and in France I will have to wear a motorbike helmet. HS models will not be allowed on cycle paths. I’m always courteous to other road users and we encounter no problems on the roads as is. Either we find a country that doesn’t punish cyclists or I get rid of the bike. I wish I’d known all of this beforehand, I didn’t do my due diligence, but also I feel that people like your good self and other dealers could be a bit more transparent about the regulations HS model riders will face in the EU for example. Nobody told me, R-M didn’t mention anything about drivers licence or not allowed on cycle paths, and my dealer in Ireland never mentioned anything either. These are important issues moving forward.

    Just the high side bars don't convince me. I've used longjohn cargo bikes for a while and find so pleasurable using it as a couch, for just spreading out my legs as I work on my laptop in a park for instance. A not-just-carrying-around-kids vision for R&M would make me feel enamored at last with your cargo bikes, and I am almost there!

    Transit of body parts conversation is a “killer” 👏 best laugh of the week.
    Hey Chris, a truly epic review video. One of your best (and it’s a very high bar). Love seeing the run thro of the kids seats: superb design, excellent demo and great angles from Tara (same goes for suspension segment). You beat everyone on that one and win the internet.
    Your content must be really valued by so many who are buying new eBikes. Yes, try before you buy etc. but the leading edge brands are thin on the ground in so many places and suitable terrain for testing may be unavailable too. As your content builds you are doing a great service to the whole market.
    Two subjects that you have an almost unique thorough knowledge/experience of are: 1. P line CX versus Cargo Line programming; 2. Belt transmission - Enviolo v. Rohloff. I get the sense some folks are gagging for those two “Propel Scientific Assessment” videos.
    Particularly the hubs. Several brands just seem to chuck in an Enviolo option to fill that empty page in their catalogue. The Rohloff is even rarer. You and R&M seem to be uniquely leading the market here. Both are brilliant options and both have drawbacks. Go on Chris, help out those who can’t manage to thoroughly try before they buy ;)
    I guess both the programming and the hubs boils down to rider FEEL. How does it feel? Hilly v gentle. Tight and tricky v Flowing and fast. HS v Regular blend. Then down to the technical: is a firmware switch reversable?; can you swap out the belt and sprockets to make a low geared or a high geared Enviolo bike depending on your personal terrain/speed?
    Excellent job Chris and Tara. 👌
    PS. sorry for War and Peace... your videos just get me thinking too much!

    I’ve had mine a month now, I take my 30kg 7 month old puppy everywhere in it (high sidewalls with tarp). Absolutely no complaints with the bike, only problems are the GPS tracker I had installed in the motor by the dealer, it has come loose inside and it’s a 260 km round trip back to the dealer to get it fixed. Also having trouble with the Drift Ghost X helmet camera. These two accessories are letting me down. If anyone has any questions about traveling with a large dog feel free to ask

      I'm looking at this bicycle to take my large dog around town after selling my car. I know it varies dog-to-dog, but how did you find training went? I'm concerned he'd jump out at the sight of some rabbit.

    • @MrWetsuitboots
      @MrWetsuitboots 2 роки тому

      @@colins1638 firstly I made sure that his first experience was very positive, I had his toys and treats scattered in the cargo. My wife walked beside him as I wheeled the bike to the nearby church carpark, we made it fun and positive, saying good boy and stay. I cycled slowly and he jumped out, it must have hurt the pads on his paws a little bit but that was an important lesson for him. He only jumped out too early one other time but he was connected to his lead which was wrapped around the handlebar neck, and so he realised that that was pointless. So it has been easy, plenty of encouragement and “good boy stay good boy wait”. He has travelled 720 kms in 8 weeks, no problem whatsoever, a local celebrity. He seemed agitated one day after 10kms and kept looking at me, I thought he was being impatient but he was needing a poo… so it was too late, it spilled out in the cargo load, but that was my fault. He won’t sit or lie down when we are moving he stands upright enjoying the ride. I definitely recommend it

    Thanks for the great review, Chris! Can you elaborate a bit more on how the Bosch cargo line programming differs from the other gen 4 programming? You mentioned the cargo line is useful when you have heavy loads, but why isn’t that extra power also better for light loads? Too much power, not an intuitive torque for each speed range, or something else?

    • @Propelbikes
      @Propelbikes  4 роки тому +1

      The Cargo Line software seems to be optimized for commercial applications and it feels restricted from what I experience on the Performance Line. It feels like there is a governor on it, especially from the start up behavior like if an employer didn't want the employee rider to have too much fun, but they want them to be able to get the job done and hauls some stuff. I hope this makes sense. The Performance Line programming is much more fun and sporty.

    I have a 2020 load 75 on order. I assume the bike shop is who sets up the programming on the motor?
    I got the vario HS, what terminology or or name should I tell the bike shop to set the programming to. For example,
    “traditional gen 4 high speed performance” programming?
    Also what is it that you don’t like about the programming it comes setup with ? How does it feel different. Either
    the torque is applied gradually in a high load situation to decrease mechanical stress (so it feels sluggish?) , or is it applied too harshly in anticipation that more support needed in heavy load situations (so it feels too jerky or abrupt)?

    • @Propelbikes
      @Propelbikes  4 роки тому +1

      Very exciting David! Yes, I would recommend asking the motor to be programmed to the tradtional gen 4 speed programming. They'll need to do some coordinating with Bosch and R&M, but it's totally the way to go. It's much more peppy and sporty. The Cargoline has a lot of power available but it can feel sluggish at times especially if you don't have a heavy load which is what it's optimized for.

    Really good review and video overall.
    Now... if you would need to choose between 60 or 75, what would you recommend?
    Afaik, the 75 rides just / similar as the 60, but with nearly 50% more cargo volume.

    • @Propelbikes

      The 2021 brakes have been upgraded. The previous ones worked well, but the new ones made some nice improvements. An important detail to note is that all parts on R&M bikes are tested to be on their bikes. Chris, great review on a very interesting bike. A few questions for you. Since it is a fairly long bike does it feel odd or clumsy navigating through traffic and while commuting or do you quickly adapt to the length? In your video you seem quite comfortable riding it around town. I wonder if hills, uneven pavement, dirt trails or roads like out in the country upset the balance of the bike since your video mostly shows it running around in the city. Also, when running errands, i.e. going to get groceries, picking up a package, going to work, etc., do you just lock it with the cafe lock or do you go all out and use multiple locks? Last, do you install the Tannus Armour inserts on this model for customers or are the tires sufficiently puncture protected with the Schwalbe tires. I have the Schwalbe Marathon Plus on my bike and they have been awesome but after hearing you mention on another video the Tannus inserts I am considering adding them to my tires for extra puncture assurance. Man, I got carried away asking questions. Great review as always. =)

      Thanks Juan! I hope you are well. The bike takes more anticipation to turn since you need to make wider turns. These can handle some really rough terrain. I actually took the shorter one on some pretty serious mountain bike trails with Tara in the front and it performed really well.
      I will use just the cafe lock if the bike is in my sight but usually I'll add some additional locks when shopping and such. I use the Load 60 with a lockable top all the time. I'll be taking it grocery shopping today actually.
      I don't think you'll need the Tannus liners on your Marathon Plus tires since they have a significant amount of protection, but they could make the tires even more puncture proof. I hope this helps.

    In an ideal world it would be very good, but in my area of London there's a lot of traffic, especially in the morning and evening. I take the children to school along narrow roads and a cargo bike wouldn't get me to the school any quicker than my electric car. Also, in the winter when it is 0c, it's not so nice being freezing cold.

    Brilliant video is there any way the rear brake light could be retro fitted to the 2019 r and m load 75 ? Also can the tray be bought for the load area with low side walls on 2019 model ?

    • @Propelbikes
      @Propelbikes  4 роки тому +1

      technically it’s possible to retrofit brake lights but it’s a big job as you need to change the brake levers and run wiring. I’ve seen some bike brake lights which work using an accelerometer and that might be an easier retrofit since you only need to add the light.
      The tray will only work with the high sidewalls as far as I understand.

      Propel Electric Bikes ordered a Touring version of the 2020 Load with a box today. I really wanted belt drive, but the Enviolo will struggle with hills and the wait time for Rohloff was a bit to long for me (not to mention the price). I hope I get the bike next week (if I’m lucky).
