Thanks for stopping by for a watch. If your into Bob Ross and want more tutorials I have an extensive playlist . One favourite for beginners is this one 'A Bob Ross Painting ANYONE Can Paint' ua-cam.com/video/XhnBlJT9fF4/v-deo.html
Paul!! That's what I like about Bob Ross paintings, they're so easy and flexible, and when things do go a bit wrong, just call them happy accidents, love how all these colours work together!
Thanks Damo. Its all the reasons why I re started painting in oils. I'd had a break for quite a few years from art as a hobby. Bob reignited my interest and its been a blast ever since 🤩🤩
Hi HHP, Thank you foir stopping by and watching. I think the filbert is a little underated and yet such a useful brush for most things. Maybe a whole painting with just the filbert just for a challenge 😎
Such a serene landscape. Absolutely beautiful mountain and the little stream. Thanks for sharing the lovely tips with step by step guide. Indeed, oil painting not easy 😅 but you made it look so easy with the demonstration. ❤❤❤
Many thanks Heema. My strength ( and a weakness sometimes ) is a determination to master the technques. But it can drive me mad sometimes. I've greatly enjoyed your videos too. I see you growing a super following which will be well deserved - Look forward to seeing what we can both do next 🤗🤗
Just lovely 😍 I did a quick, fast forward, through the video because I'm impatient and love to see the progression quickly but now I'll go back and watch every second.
Hi Paul, I couldn't find the colours you used only the acrylics, I like to get the colours on my pallet before I start your video ,it helps if the colours are listed especially for a beginner like me . I can't wait to give this one a go ,thank you for your time its appreciated.
@Paul Ranson Art thank you , that's great Paul, I do like to try and get organised before I follow your video , putting the oils out on my pallet makes me feel very efficient lol 😆
Hello, Paul! Lovely tutorial! I can almost smell fresh mountain air looking at that painting. I love the bold look of blues and greens on black. In addition to teaching how to do something, I admire that you encourage good habits. It’s very easy to get lost in what you’re doing and not want to stop to freshen up the palette. I’m guilty of that on occasion. 🤫 Nice use of a clay shaper. I think you could deem it the “Oopsy stick.”😉 Lastly, I chuckled at the audio of the cat door. Cats do not respect our studios. Do they? Mine make appearances occasionally since they enjoy doing parkour all over the house. My studio is not sacred.😸
Hi Robyn - We're a long way from a mountain here on the south coast of the UK but I never tire of painting them. My 'good habits' are born out of teaching classes where I ended up covered in paint. My lovely attendee's were always encouraged to keep themselves (and me) tidy. Some folk just loved to nest for the day. They were the one's you approached with rubber gloves on!😍 I'll feature the 'Oopsy Stick' in future videos. Love from the studio and the kitties 😺🐯
Hello 👋 Paul , another great informative video, just right for a beginner like me ,loved the cat flap sound as well as the dreamy background music your playing its right up my street relaxing painting relaxing music it's win win ,I don't know about oops stick my language couldn't be printed when I make a happy little mistake 🤬lol
Hi Chris - thanks for stopping by. I made a video ( of course ) on how I make my DIY 'canvases' out of decorators lining paper. It save a fortune and a ton of space when practicing. Here's the link to the playlist ua-cam.com/video/Wbb9p3gdCHY/v-deo.html
Yes, absolutely but its a lot thinner and wetter. So you might find it trickier than the thicker Bob Ross product. I usually add the smallest amount to my brush and check my canvas very well. If its slightly too shiney then blot off the surplus with a paper towel. Also check out some of the clear gel mediums - google Oleogel as a starting point. Gamblin also make a similar product that you might find easier to use.😃😎
why are you using Gesso? I understand if that's all you have available, but acrylic paint would be more appropriate. gesso will affect the texture/absorbancy of your painting surface. without explaining, that perhaps that's all you had, people will think it's needed and they'll go out and buy it or something. the purpose you seem, to be using it for is two-fold, to provide a dark background for your dark areas and to help you layout your painting. they could just as easily use a thinned layer of burnt umber or even charcoal + fixative. and don't even get me started on this "dark sienna" color BRI made up.

You... using bad language... surely not... 😉😉🥰
@Paul Ranson Art its OK Paul my dog completely ignores my French lol
I actually tried this one when I first started and gave up. I willbtry again when I heal. Broke my painting arm.
Hi Edward - sorry to hear that. I hope it wasn't a painting related injury! Get well soon and give this one a bash. 😎😎
@@PaulRansonArt can't wait to paint again. And it was an electric scooter accident.
Beautiful painting Paul. What kind of paper is it that you put over the canvas for your videos?

Thanks so much, Paul. Great tip!! Liner paper will be my new practice friend!
Paul, can a person use linseed oil in place of liquid clear with the same results? Thanks in advance.
