My (current) favourite synth patch

- This is one of my favourite synth presets I've come across. It's a preset on the U-He Repro 5 plugin. With a bit of velocity tuning it turns into a lovely flute-like electric piano synth patch.
Here's my playing a Bach piece with this preset: • Bach played on a Synth...

What's your favourite preset you've come across on a synth?
give me kiss uwu
Preset 007 on the OB-6
I'm a simple dude - "basic sinelike" in operator
My favorite preset is also from a U-He plug Hive2 and it's called HS Dessert2 - Lemon
Yeah, Ob-6 007 - BrokenEP
I come back to this every 6 or so months... its just such a beautiful sound! Hope all is well and thank you!
It’s nice to hear sensitive keyboard playing on a synth sound. Well done.
It's like a mixture of an ocarina, harp, flute, and trumpet. Might be the one reason I buy that.
I agree, this is very unique. It's definitely a sound you would hear in a tune somewhere and then hopelessly search the whole world over for. It's very Prophety, but yet also not obviously, as in also both Moog- and Korg-like but also not either. Great find.
Howard Scarr is one of the best sound designers around.
Beautiful preset and playing
This is cool. Reminds me of a sound I would have heard in an old PBS show in the 70s and early 80s.
I love your playing man. Absolutely wonderful.
came for the synth stayed for the playing
Incredible playing. Thanks for this great video.
Breathtaking.
calming. just what i needed, thank you!
That sounds Beautiful!
amazing work
Really sweet. Rich flavor.
What an amazing preset! Thx for showing it. My favourite is a pretty similar one it's the dupe brass preset in the Arturia Prophet Emulation. A really soft brass. I use it all the time.
So soothing!
Beautiful impro!
Your playing is very entertaining to listen to
reminds me of the plantasia album that's been hype lately
I like to hear you play! 👍🏽👍🏽
If you turned down the two depth knobs in the matrix, it would have the same effect as the Ableton velocity MIDI plug-in, except you'd still have 127 individual levels instead of 50 something, they'd just be spaced closer together.
dropping velocity is more universal and works with any though :)
Very interesting to hear how you can get more sounds from a velocity-sensitive preset (and synth, obviously), by the velocity limitation insert. Thanks!
Playing a synth in a subtle way that doesn't sound like Transformers having a gang bang, how novel... beautiful playing sir
Haven´t thanked you for showing me my new favorite keyboard. FP-10, absolute gamechanger for me.
Howard Scarrs patches are legendary in my book. It’s rare my ears find a truly amazing sound that isn’t Howard’s
Great playing, great preset 😎👍
Howard Scarr always makes the best patches.
sounds awesome! u are really talented with the keys
Great sound!\
u-he synthesizers are really great. even the free Podolski is great. I use them on Linux.
Dude they’re the best. I got the demo version of Zebra2 and my jaw dropped when I dug through the presets and saw how dynamic & deep and clean they all where right out of the box with zero post processing. NEVER seen anything like it dude. Even most paid-for presets in Serum doesn’t remotely close. Sounds SO real.
How Zebra2 isn’t widely regarded as the best synth ever made is beyond me.
Idk exactly if it’s because Howard Scarr is a genius at sound design & really pushes the limit of what is possible...or if Zebra is just that inherently next level lol. Either way they knocked that one out of the park
Why do Linux fanboys always feel the need to point out that they use Linux? No one gives a fuck, they'll always be stuck at 2% marketshare
Edit: no wonder, all your videos are about Linux
@@tenzaemtade6146 The more people using Linux, the better.
That’s the stuff 🔥🔥🔥
you make such good videos dude! keep it up :)
You're such a good player!
You earned yourself a sub, sir. Ears are smiling.
Nice!
Its beautifullll
Randomly stumbled across this video... and for a few moments got lost in your playing and the sound, forgetting everything. Thanks
Nice patch - a touch of Switched on Bach - will now go try to replicate this on my OB-6 😄
That was lovely. Definitely got lost in it too. If you take requests I would love to hear some baroque music on some of these patches. BWV999 for example is a nice, super deep once it develops, yet very easy to play/learn. It’s basically a interactive conversation of straight forward arpeggios between the left and right hands. Thanks for this amazing content!!
Big fan of Repro 5. As close as I’m getting to buying a Prophet 5 for now. Nice video as always!
On my old Rev 3 Prophet 5, it's either in bank two or three I can't recall for sure, it's either 2.4 or .24 patch. Basically, it's a single OSC patch with the 2nd oscillator feeding a PWM to the first oscillator thru the Poly-Mod section. OSC A set to a square wave, OSC B set to a triangle, in LFO mode with KEY tracking on. Although it's a single oscillator, each key has a slightly different PWM because of key tracking. The new Nymphes has LFOs that can track the keyboard for the same effect.
thank you.
Watched this after smoking a J. Bro! You tripped the living hell outta me!!
nice!
You should make an album of your synth-noodleing.
Check out all that good old virtual warmth! Can't believe you can get so much differentiation from only one patch.
I like that you like it. Not the patch itself
reminds me of autobahn !! :) so happy
Howie is a great synth programmer!
Nice one. You should do more on patches for this synth. U-he did a great job.
He has done that
Gives off a very pre-80s aesthetic. Reminds me of Wendy Carlos' work on A Clockwork Orange.
Or, recently Justice. Specifically Gaspard Auge's recent standalone album Escapades.
Well that was pleasant
very nice. Sounds like Diamonds from Danger Incorporated
(THE SAFDIE BROTHERS WANT TO KNOW YOUR LOCATION)
Aahhaahhahaaha
daniel lopatin is creaming his pants rn
Everyone who got this joke is a patrician
Reminds me of Jerry Garcia with his Shakedown Street/Terrapin Station tone, and some of his later MIDI experiments too. I heard some Radiohead in there a bit of something else too. Dope brother...dope.
Anyone know how we would achieve his velocity-tweaking technique in Logic? Thanks for the video. Great playing.
Beautiful playing.. what kind of music is that
Why not adjust the velocity in the synth? What's the benefit of using the velocity tool?
Anyone know if this patch is available for the Arturia prophet as well?
Sounds a lot like a sound Wendy Carlos would use.
Hey, do you know Pianoteq? For a piano player it’s awesome, though it can be expensive. But would be cool if you’ll try it.
whats a good audio interface for having near 0 latency for playing with vst synths? i have a behringer one but i can hear the 7+ latency i get with some vsts, would liek to improve,,, i used to have a firewire interface but of course they had to get rid of that FW support,,, Thunderbolt is kind of expensive, maybe thats the anser-
I would like you to play some well tempered clavier
What’s a good vst to get for fat sounding prophet 10 bass sounds..?
What are you playing @4:30 ??? So great
Does this work in Reason?
What midi keyboard do you have? I'm looking for one :)
The perfect trombone patch
Can you get sounds like that on a moog (sub phatty)? I'm really new to all the technical stuff, is there any software with which you can modify any sound you like! Love the video btw, amazing!
ya no you cant
moog sub phatty is monophonic ( one note at a time) and the sculpting capabilities are pretty limited on the sub phatty compared to the prophet 5
@@cherrybumman541 Velocity modulation on filter can be still achieved on monosynth, if the keyboard is dynamic (it sends velocity messages). Still, this effect works best on a polysynth.
What keyboards are you using there?
Not to nitpick but repro5 is a poly version of the pro one
How long does it take to play like you?? It's very inspiringly.
@@Anaphase please advise where to start, or just improvise like this?
just start. and never stop. simple.
@@peppyp7323 I agree. It does take stubernnes to learn htp. Say it because I practice dialy at least 3 - 4 times a day for around 30 since the quarentene started, I read music sheets now. Started with Bach because why the f not? Am that stuborn.
Always good to here you. Why you do not give a classic concert from bach with this.
Bach Handel
У всех плагинов серии u_he есть прекрасные звуки и их тысячи++++!
please how can i remake this sound
Just copy knob combination of Repro-5 panel showed on the video.
please tell me that's not improv and an actual song cause I need that available as a song asap
dudeee
How much?
could this be the brass heard in justice's planishphere?£
Long Live Howard Scarr
Thanks!
Any way to do that velocity plugin trick on FL?
You have to set up filter envelope to be modulated by keyboard velocity. Filter frequency should be set up not higher than halfway through.
I'm hearing Wendy Carlos.
Which Valhalla plugin?
Probably Shimmer.
Red serum
I just bought the Repro suit. It's great. Then on impulse I bought a Deepmind... This is getting expensive.
Does anyone know how to recreate this patch on a Prophet Rev2?
Generally, you have to set up filter envelope to be modulated by keyboard velocity. Filter frequency should be set up not higher than halfway through.
@@B1SCOOP Thanks!
3:50
What song is he playing @ 5:07?
lolol curious also ? whats that style of music called even lol
Is bery Good synth is the moster....
Love this synth but it eats my CPU like crazy
that’s informative, thank you. I think I will stick to Arturia’s softsynths then.
Turn off the effects (use effects plugins instead) and also shut off HQ if your CPU has no spare grunt.
Give that patch to Hiroshi Sato.
What hater gave him a thumbs down?!?
probably one of those Trump supporters / Coronavirus non-believers.

So with these DAW plugins, the sound, tonality, warmness varies depending on what digital/ analog interface is used to output the sound. Unlike a dedicated piece of gear, virtual synths are not consistent and usually entail 80% tweaking / 20% music playing. And for those using a laptop with the audio output, worst possible sound quality possible !
Give me a kiss uwu
its a moog reproduction,i also found it on arturia's V collection,i also bouth their switched on bach add-on,they have severall,jm jarre, vangelis, etc, and the sounds they used are perfect
no samples tough, all mathematically reproduced, thats why it sounds so 80's (analog) lol
It's a Prophet 5 emulation, like he said in the video, not a Moog.
Sounds like who dat boy by tyler the creator
