@@guharup ,, By the time of the events in this scene Nur Al din was long dead and Saladin was indeed the sultan of Egypt and Syria and his holdings surrounded the Crusader States. The movie is not very precise with its time span, you just get introduced to the main characters in "France, 1184" and thats about it, everything seems to develop in a matter of weeks or months even though the events in the story span about four years with the final scene with balian back in France at the start of the third crusade being around 1188-89.
Howleye I loved the scene with Sal-hadin and the “army chaplain” Mullah. If I recall correctly, in Islam if the clergy smells a rat, they can relatively easily topple a monarch for being not a good Muslim, right? And yet Saladin held his ground and promised to retake Jerusalem but without mindlessly kowtowing to the islamic clergyman.

To those telling that the meeting was pointless... It was a show of strength from both sides. Both kings realised that if they wanted to win they would have to sacrifice most of their army. Meaning that in the end noone would win. Its the common sense of prudence that characterised both great kings. That's why this scene was so awesome.
People saying it was pointless are literally the same people urging the US to build more nukes and military craft as a deterrent of war. It makes sense to them until they don't want it to make sense.

Edward Norton played King Baldwin perfectly in this scene. His body weakened with leprosy,eyes filled with suppressed pain, and is doing all he can to stand firm as the king in front of an equally powerful adversary. That's body language perfected in acting, it's a shame this actor is known to be a real douche.
When Saladin died, his treasury was opened and it was found he had little money left. He'd used much of it to free the slaves and help the poor. He was not just a good tactician, but a wise and chivalrious ruler as well.

Salahuddin offers his physicians because he is well aware that the only thing that will prolong the peace is Baldwin's continued reign. When he dies, there's no one in authority that's sensible enough to prevent a clash between the two armies in the future.
Just love the moment where we see the true power of the king who is severely ill and he march so large army and in the end he ends the battle that easy. On top of that the epic music, its just beautiful.

Well I love this movie but I have to say...Guy de Lusignan wasn't the shithead they portrayed him to be in this movie. Well I love this movie but I have to say...Guy de Lusignan wasn't the shithead they portrayed him to be in this movie. Reynald de Chatillon on other hand did lead an aggressive policy against Muslims but his actions were mostly reactionary to aggressive policies led by Saladdin.
