What an awesome comment. Well done, well said my friend. x
I would like to add not only England
This was quoted in an interview. You didn't make that up.
When Freedie left the stage after their set. David Bowie said to him thanks Freddie how the Fuck am I supposed to follow that.
What’s most impressive is this isn’t a Queen crowd, but it became one.
sure, queen werent the only performers. But they were arguably the biggest ones and alot of people went there specifically for them
It has to have been a queen crowd or they wouldn't have been able to do the radio gaga hand clap in unison so readily!!!

I dont care that im 14 and my generation’s stereotype is what it is, im always going to love 70s music and queen

Me too bruh...... But I'm 16....... They had taken the world that day..... Not only that day but forever.......
I’m 15 and absolutely love 70s 80s music, especially queen

I’m 28, people were saying the same about my generation as they do about yours, and I’m sure they’ll say the same the generation after. Don’t worry about it ✌️
Yeah, I too was there....... Many years later watching the London Olympics closing when Queen performed and they played a tape of Freddie playing with the crowd, and the live crowd responded, my wife just quietly said " Oh my God, he can even do it when he's dead"

Absolutely amazing. I remember watching it on a Video screen at a Health Club that I was a member of. I had been a Queen fan for many years. John Peel RADIO DJ got me immediately interested when he played Seven Seas of Rye, and I thought “My God” that’s so innovative and new.

And Queen United world for 21 minutes and bring world peace. When people forget to fight against each others and just listen and sing along with Freddy Mercury. And just chill for moment.
OK I'm old, I saw Queen live 5 times. Live Aid, to this day it's the largest concert ever held. It was in aid to raise money for the Ethiopian Famine in the early 1980's. At the time of Live Aid I was serving in the British Royal Marine Commandos in a refugee camp in Ethiopia. We listened to it on the radio. We were surrounded be the horror of the Famine, but when Queen came on the radio those poor soles who were there even reacted in a very positive way. I remember that a lot of us Royal Marine Commandos were crying watching some of the children dancing along, I'm teary eyed just remembering. I looked around at men I had fought alongside, who were tough, hardened Royal Marine Commandos who I had fought along side in a war against Argentinian's in 82. By the end of Queen's set we were dancing with the children. It went along way to help build their trust in us. The famine is one of the two worst memories I have. I only watched it for the first time last year, my son put it on the TV. A lot of memories came back and a lot of tears.
It was certainly the largest TV audience but the largest live audience to be at a concert ( and this shocked the hell out of me) was Rod Stewart in 1993 on Copacabana Beach with 4.2 million
I was there in that crowd. Queen were the absolute highlight of the whole concert. Freddie lifted the atmosphere from low to ecstatic in 15 seconds, it was electric. I'll never forget it. I only bought the ticket to see Bowie, then I discovered it was a whole day. 🥳
omg you must have been blown away, lucky you, I wish....love freddie and queen forever, miss you darling❤❤
@@MemphisBrown-wy9es Yes it was unforgettable 🎉🥳🎈🎉
The best thing about his absolute control over that entire audience is that it wasn’t even his audience necessarily. They didn’t all go there to specifically see queen. But queen is what we all remember. That’s epic.
🏴yes😚🏴
And in Philly we responded the same way as they did in London.
Exactly queen is an will be first in our minds

I just started the video and I get so excited when younger generations are first introduced to Queen, ESPECIALLY the Live Aid performance.
I was 24 living in Dallas Texas when I watched this concert live. Queen was the stuff of dreams and fairytale. God bless Freddie Mercury’s soul for bringing so much joy to our lives.
My sentiments too, Freddie was a lovely person.
Fun fact. The Sound Engineer at Live Aid in UK show was a dear friend of Freddie & Queen. He engineered the sound system fully to certain specifications. He also the sound board. Per Queen's request he had a switch taped off. When Queen took the stage he flipped the switch no one knew about except for him & Queen...to make Queen the loudest band at the event! True story!!
Turned up to 11 no doubt just for Queen.
Not a Queen concert, not a Queen audience , so to have 72,000+ people singing, swaying and clapping in unison is remarkable and shows just how incredible and talented Queen were. Lucky enough to see them at Wembley a year later. Great reaction.
Thanks for the comment and way to go being able to see them live, that must be an absolute amazing memory.
You don't even need a band on stage for the audience to sing. :-)

I was 16 during Live Aid. The concert started at 8pm here in Australia, and I sat in front of the TV for about 15 hours waiting for Queen to come on and I was not disappointed. It's 30 years since Freddie died and not seeing Queen live in person is still my greatest regret in my concert viewing life.
I was 22 and I was present at Wembley Stadium. I was and am a huge Queen aficionado, but they blew me away that day. Freddie was on fire.
@@Dragonblaster1 What a great memory to have. In 1985-86 Queen came to Australia and I was just too young to have been able to drive the 2 hours myself to go and see them, so I don't know what that's like. I have several live DVD's and Blu-Rays now, including the Live Aid show, but it will never quite be the same.
@@thelorax9622 Yes, the sheer energy of it was mind-blowing. I’ve found the same thing with Iron Maiden gigs. Everyone is your friend.
Queen and Freddie Mercury are iconic and will always be legends. There are just not enough words to describe the feeling you get when you hear one of their songs whether it be in person or on the radio. We will always miss you Freddie Mercury ❤️❤️❤️
Same here my friend
I remember this, the other bands came out and played a couple of tunes, almost half heartedly. You almost could see Bob Geldof twisting their arms behind their backs. Then Queen came on and treated it like a paying gig, gave their all and left the stage. The rest, as they say, is history......
Status quo were the first I think and they completely rocked and had the crowd bouncing but other than that people didn’t seem to want to be there

“Crazy little thing called love” was cut out!!!! But I loved the look on ur sons face....my kids have known live aid ‘85 their whole lives!!! This is STILL the #1 live performance of all time!!!!
Freddie. Still making people love you. The man had more talent in his mustache then many of today's artists.
More talent in 1 hair of his mustache than many of today's artists when a group of them get together. No autotune - no pressure Freddie will smash it out, not only the park but out of orbit. Freddie - the ultimate performer. R.I.P.
I so so love that mustache Comment 😍 ♥ 😭 ❤
I love that. More talent in his mustache. Epic.
Don't forget what part Midge Ute played in Live Aid. It wasn't all dirty Geldof.
I'm not sure that's what was in his mustache!!!
To be fair, that's one hell of a mustache.

Freddie held that sea of people in the palm of his hand and it was glorious!
Daniel Malik not suprised

I wanna like this a million times
Queen Live at Wembley is up there to.
Still get goosebumps off his voice RIP to the best legend
I think one of the most amazing things about this, is that most people gathered, merrily singing Queen songs, were fans of other groups. This was Live Aid, charity, and a lot of people were secretly waiting to see how well Queen would do without a fan base, without flashing lights and theatrics. And they just went in there, ruled the stage and everyone turned into a fan.
No autotune or pitch correction back in them days, just let that sink in for a minute !
Oh ya, his voice is just amazing times 10!!
There actually was pitch correction back then, just wasn’t widely used until Auto Tune was invented as a real-time pitch correction in the late 90s. Before they had digital real-time plugins, there were studio tricks engineers used. Like Queen, who had fun being experimental in the studio. Or The Beatles.
What happened to " Crazy little thing called love"?
I,literally, as a 65 year old don't know what that is or what that does even though I have now heard the phrase many times...lol
Might have been used in the studio's back in 85 but im sure it wasn't available for live performances back then. A lot of reverb and compression yes but not autotune or pitch correction, back then you needed raw vocal talent because you had nothing to hide behind and very little to mask a shit voice when you sang live.
David Bowie followed Queen, backstage he called them a bunch of bastards and said how the hell do I follow that
Beautiful
Its funny, i remember Bowies performance as the most awsome show ever. I was late home from work so i missed queens performance. And now many years later i can watch it on UA-cam. Now i understand why Bowie made such an effort 😄
Love that Bowie said that. Bet they all got a good laugh at that!
Yea but Bowie really good
if anybody could..
I love that there’s not a cell phone or camera in sight apart from the camera men filming it! Everyone in the moment enjoying themselves!!
Cellphones were kinda nonexistent back then the best we could do was a regular instatphoto camera and a tape recorder
What's wrong with people recording when at a concert?
@@gator_productions Yeah, its a real treat to pay for a ticket to see a band/artist and get stuck behind a wall of a/holes waving their damn cell phones around making their own crappy ,in sound and vision, copy of said artists biggest hit.... maybe there should be a separate section for these "fans".... let them annoy each other and not the real enjoyers of the concert experience as the entertainer intended.....

no cell phones in the audience!!!!!!! just enjoyment
I was born in 1944. And when rock 'n' roll hit the scene in the mid-50's, I had no interest in it. It all seemed so childish, or perhaps it was self-centered pubescence. Whatever, I paid very little attention to rock through the 50's and 60's. The Eagles got to me in the 70's, along with some others. But by and large, music for me was the classics and show tunes. Then, in 1985, I was living in Germany teaching English as a Second Language. After a long Saturday morning, I came home eager to enjoy what was left of the weekend. Once I got home, I turned on the little black and white TV I had been lent in hopes of finding something I could understand enough to enjoy. What I came across was the Live Aids broadcast from Wembley Stadium I shrugged and watched. Almost immediately, Queen was on stage. For the next 20 minutes I was glued to my seat, absolutely dumbstruck by Freddie Mercury's performance. In the wake of this extraordinary experience, I learned to appreciate a good deal better just what rock had to offer. My horizons were most happily expanded. And I still think of the Wembley experience and Queen as an epiphany, my own little satori. It's a memory I treasure still and always will.

And listen to how tight the band are, especially Deacon and Taylor driving the rhythms forward. I'm not a Queen fan and I love this concert.
The best thing about gigs like Live Aid is there's 70+ thousand people all there for probably 30+ different bands but they ALL join in with Queen. It shows how fantastic this and U2's performance's were. I wasn't at Live Aid but I went to the Mandela and Human Rights concerts at Wembley and the atmosphere was always fantastic
That Queen was probably the most educated rock band ever. Freddie Mercury - degree in Art & Graphic Design, Roger Taylor - Biology, John Deacon - Electronics & Brian May - Astrophysics (& recently completed his doctorate after a 30-year hiatus).
One of the most educated. Genesis was another band chock full of educated blokes. Steely Dan, among the Americans. Come to think of it, there's a lot of them. It kinda shows in their music too. What an era.
Yeah Brian may didn't just finish his PhD he has also worked on some high profile projects as a part of the European space agency
I saw a quote somewhere along the lines of, 'there's cool and then there's lead guitarist in one of the worlds greatest rock bands and a Phd in Astrophysics cool'.
Roger Taylor actually was a trained dentist, but never took the boards to be licenced.
No, he never finished dentistry, he changed his degree to biology. OP is correct.
5:21 That little kiss Freddie blew to his mom, that gets me right in the feels every time
MandaLa 314 That was just the movie, during the actual real event he was just blowing a kiss to his fans, whom he appreciated very much.
Blows anything else out of the water. I wasn't even born yet but I'm obsessed with this performance and I love Queen and Freddie's story.
The part of the call and response kills me every time 😆😂😍 and it's even better in a reaction video. Legendary
It's so hard to believe that 5 years later he died. Unbelievable. I will miss you forever Freddie!
6 years!!! Live Aid was in 1985 & Freddie died in 1991.
I could watch this every day. No one compares to Freddie and Queen . NO ONE
@@RaymondvanSchayk 5 years and 4 months so definitely not 6 years
@@nostalgia815 i think you are wrong, Freddie died in novembre, 1991 and the live aid was on summer of 1985, so it cannot be 5 years and 4 months, but 6 years and 4 months. Tell me if I’m wrong.
@@barbtullos3909 Lennon the beatles ffs there is more than one legend
The guy they got to play Brian May in the movie is astonishingly good.
He really was, the casting on that movie was amazing.
He looks more like Brian may that. Brian himself
The actor for Brian May looks more like Brian May then Brian May does.
Deacon and May were perfect for the movie
One-Eye he looks just like him😂😂
My great aunt was in the crowd. She said nothing could ever replicate the feeling she felt when Queen came on stage. I was born in 2003 and I'd give anything to see them live.
Every time I see this it gives me the chills. No other band or live performance will equal this. Legendary. Sigh.. I miss Freddy.
72 thousand people all going to the concert to see the bands they love not particularly Queen ( Bowie for me ) and Freddie Mercury had the whole 72 thousand people eating out of his hand. I never looked at Queen the same way. Unbelievable front man, first time seeing him on stage and he got me right in the heart. A true entertainer. R I P Freddie. ❤️
Freddie was asked one time What did he play the best and his reply was THE AUDIENCE DARLING. How true when watching this.
@@jimspink2922 that’s interesting, I can just see Freddie saying that.
I was there with a bunch of friends just in front of the sound engineer directly in front of the stage in the middle of the crowd. Was an amazing and very hot day!
Photo Genius 👍😁 I envy you‼️
Bob Geldof was from Dublin and his band the boomtown rats fantastic group and by the way queen didn't rehearse they just came on and done it
Has your hearing returned yet? 😁
@@briandavis3832 I thought they had rehearsals off site prior?!
thank god for the water cannons that day .
The night of this performance I was on duty in A&E (ER) Cardiff Royal Infirmary in Wales, UK. It was the quietest night ever for emergencies and we got to watch Live Aid on TV almost all the way through uninterrupted in the A&E nurses' break room which was right next to the consulting rooms.
When Queen came on I thought some of the female A&E nurses were going to need medical attention, they just loved Freddie and boy did they show it.
We were all blown away by Queen's performance which really was the highest of high spots of that night. I was already an ardent fan but they won a new and younger audience that night and it kick started a resurgence of their career.
I know that in the time I have left I will never ever again witness such a superlatively commanding performance by any band and particularly the performance of their front man, Freddie and I have been present at some really great performances by some great bands.
Best performance in the whole of Live Aid. I remember it well and was on a break at work. We all were glued to the staff room tv set and late back from our breaks :) It was amazing.
A journalist once asked all the members what instruments they played John said I play bass guitar Roger said I play keyboard and drums Brian said I play lead guitar and you Freddie what instrument do you play to which he replied me darling I play the audience now that's fucking rock royalty
I don't think I'll see a showman control an audience like Freddie did. He was a ONCE in five generations man.
Mr Demoncrusher
Small correction....
Freddie was a Once In A LIFETIME Performer!!!
like Elvis
@@thecelticcrone7927 - The greatest showman ever! The son didn't get it. He was amazed at the size of the crowd, but completely missed that Freddie had every one of those 72,000 people in his hands! Phenomenal performance - once in a lifetime, for a once in a lifetime performer.
Jomanka100
I’d say more than was just there!!!
I was at home watching on TV and followed along!!! It still gives me the ‘FEELS’ when I hear that song!
@@thecelticcrone7927 - You're only right! A bunch of us watched it together on the TV, and he had us all in his hands too! Feels like yesterday, but I'm old now, and I wasn't then! haha!
I was lucky enough to see Queen four times live when they came to Kansas City. I remember each one fondly and as I age with a sense of reverence.
Did you know that Freddie was told by his doctor not to perform at the venue for fear that he would lose his voice... he was just diagnosed with Aids, and was just starting to get aids inflicted pneumonia, which is why at certain points in the songs he changes the melody, but you would never know unless you really pay attention..it was an amazing performance by arguably the greatest frontman to ever exist.
RIP Freddie Mercury. Thank you for the impact you've had on so many lives.
Yes, but he still has
I case you didn't know the concert started at noon... queen came on around 6.30 ...after 6 1/2 hours on our feet they re-energised us all!! The best by far 🧐
You were there? I so envy you guys who saw Freddie live. I was 9 days old when this concert was held so needless to say I never got the opportunity 😔
@@LeneKKristoffersen best day ever partied hard from moment got up till early hours following day. 😈
@@MarkLandsberg lucky you 😍
When they say the concert was blasting out from every open window or from gardens in the London area and rest of the UK, THEY REALLY ARE NOT EXAGGERATING. Honest. An amazing day in the UK.
One of the best bands of all time! Such an amazing performance! Thanks so much for sharing. ❤️ 👑 ❤️
I'm just a year old when this happen but when I found out about this concert, I can't help but smile and sing-along, like I was there. The Queen still rocking the world up until now. 2021.
It is incredibly rare when you can point to a single moment in time, and say "This was their greatest moment." It's even rarer when that moment was captured in its near perfection, and you can watch it again, 35 years later. This was the moment Queen gave the greatest live performance in rock history, and at that moment, there WERE no other rock bands. There was only Queen.
The Who, The Kinks, The Jam, Madness, Deep Purple, Genesis. Just to name a few. While these weren't necessarily Queen and Bowie level they were still legendary in their own right.
@@evieaddy9580 But for many of them, their greatest concerts weren't recorded, or weren't recorded in full. And even then, think how many performers there have been since the late 1960's alone, and how many of them had a moment like this? Almost none. Maybe a handful more than the bands you listed, and even then most probably weren't recorded, or broadcast live to the entire world.
@@Valandar2 many of them did. They weren't put in the hall of legends for nothing.
@@evieaddy9580 Still doesn't invalidate what I said. I didn't say nobody else had done it, just that it was incredibly rare. And "many" is a bit... exaggerated. Maybe one band in a hundred, or even a thousand did.
@@Valandar2 if you don't know then don't actually respond.
Week 4 into quarantine, here we are.
Yes Tsavatanem, here we are.
Week 5 And we're still in quarantine.
Gor Zakharian week 8
We are listening to Queen. Could be worse.
@TheSilentGamer YT Who?
Real leader who took the idea to Geldoff was Midge Ure of Ultravox .He deserves more credit as he initiated the whole thing , Bob's forceful nature got things done so credits to them both
Freddie was so amazing that people dont even realize the GOD LEVEL picking Brian May puts on. Its God Tier.
