Pro tip! Always wear gloves when you use acetone or any solvents. It absorbs into the bloodstream. quickly.
So it gets you high?
So that's why manicurists wear gloves when they are applying acetone to a client's fingers. 😳
@@jimsime1 they have been secretly poisoning their clients lol
Also sit in a well ventilated area 🥺
Protect the work surface with newspaper (for those who read) or Trump mail seeking money donations.
I would try mild solvents first, such as rubbing alcohol (2 kinds), lighter/camping fuel (liquid, not butane or propane), paint thinner, etc. don't go straight to acetone, which is a common plastic solvent.
But alcohol and acetone are the only ones you probably already have at home 😅
Thankss
I've used isopropyl alcohol to do this, it also works but maybe takes more time. I'd try that first, then the acetone if things are really sticky.
This. Gets the work done without any risks that comes with using acetone.
Remember to wear gloves if you use acetone.
Ok I will try that. Thank you sensei!
Good idea, thank you
Same just use some ipa. Its pritty quick
Awesome video! I use 3M gum remover, works on many things without damaging the plastic or materials. Thanks for sharing!
Acetone will melt some plastic so you could remove the rubber coating only to melt the case underneath. Apparently petrol works well.
This is acetone alcohol one?
Acetone destroy manny plastic like styrofoam, ABS, based and more or "matting" others from glass finish to rugged opaque look ex polycarbonate ( transparent CD casing...).
Oh okay.
I thought acetone(?) and alcohol were the same thing.
Thanks for the information!
@@yoonpark8311 Acetone is a solvent, alcohol is a cleaning chemical.
@@yoonpark8311 turpentine is the best not acetone*
Thanks , I will have show my wife, she was asking the best way to clean sticky rubber things the other day 😂
Tmi 😮
Like dildos and vibrators?
...and if she does use it immediately after cleaning, she will have double the pleasure...
😂
Obvious solution is to just stop using rubber things... 😊
Gasoline, Alcohol, Acetone, Nail Polish, WD-40 and many others. Use what you have on hand I suppose.
Why do manufacturers insist on putting this rubber that turns sticky on electronics so often
It's not real rubber it's plastic with a rubber like effect coating. It's that layer that gets sticky
It was popular back in the day, but I guess no one knew how it what deteriorate.
@VeticiaPlanned obsolescence.💲💰🤑
Maybe the tropical climate, hot and humid weather is a factor in the rubber going sticky🧐🤔
@TheKb117 the Apple model of business
It’s cool to watch hard work and enjoy it because it kept me hooked because it was fast forwarded. And it was clearly hard work
"Hey sweetie, have you seen my nail polish remover?"...erm!
That stickiness is the elastomer leeching out, the component that makes the plastic soft and supple. Removing it may solve the stickiness problem in the short term, but ultimately the plastic, lacking this elastomer, becomes brittle and cracks.
I will do that anyways because the component has already come out. There’s no way to get it back in so you might as well remove it.
@@lonnieevans4127 Yeah, the plastic is already shot so why not. My intent is more of an FYI of what to expect.
Thanks for the feedback. These kind of comments are very helpful and informative.
Mine still looks like brand new after 1 year. Still looks the same as seen on the video. Of course i am speaking on my experience and item. May depend on the type plastics/materials or other factors.
Also, the rubber is also attacked by mold in high humidity environments...
The Latex seals on my Drysuit were completely melted by mold and had to be discarded..
I've removed stickiness using isopropyl alcohol and the rubber didn't become brittle.
Use mineral spirits instead acetone tends to ruin the surface bellow the Rubber like adhesive
Don't use Acetone on ABS plastic. It can dissolve it.
Great, it worked perfectly! Thanks!
and the screen I passed it with a black indelible pen.
It looks almost like new!
Happy to hear it worked on you
Damn! I’ve thrown stuff away because I didn’t know I could fix it!
It can't be fixed. De-vulcanising can't be reversed by removing the outer layer. The rubber will continue to degrade and become sticky again..
@@AdamAdamHDL actually many products have a plastic “wall” with a thin coat of this rubber stuff. I cleaned some a while ago and they are fine. Surely some solvents will turn the plastic brittle, but they will last quite a while before breaking. Another solution is to use some corn starch, that will “absorb” the gooey stuff. I don’t in the long term what will happen though
Yeah, in my experience once the coating is removed entirely, only smooth plastic remains and the stickiness won't reappear. I have done it on many items and even after years they still look pristine.
use a bottle of remove grease and oven removal, most house has it, just wipe off and good as new, no need rub at all
Oh so it's not me just having disgusting old electronics. I thought I was spilling grease or something over everything
😂 same, good to know we’re all in the same plastic rubber goo club.
That god awful rubber grip material is one of the worst trends in consumer electronics. It’s rubbish.
Acetone can dissolve some plastics and so be careful that the based materials are resistant to acetone first.
good Lord, NEVER use Acetone on "unknown" plastic. Worst case is directly dissolves the material, followed by (and as worse, in the end) making it brittle which can even take weeks to happen.
@@jsn7123 depends on the plastic. Mine still looks like brand new after one year
Im surprised that the plastic film is not peeled off yet
Had that happen too, I dismantled it and then put it in the dish washer. Worked like a charm
I've used face powder and it works too. It'll leave a white mark but can be cleaned using damp cloth
Instead of solvent try Oxy Clean and warm water (or another product with sodium carbonate - soda crystals)
Have tried Spirits on plastic e.g umbrella handles & remote backs .Which is affective; quick but can damage your goods being overly aggressive on your plastic. Diluted with a water applied to rag with only a small amount of spirits applied to the rag after . As did not have Isopropyl Alcohol ( rubbing alcohol ) on hand to tryout.
Acetone will melt the paint, so be careful with colorful objects
Surely if Acetone works then Eucalyptus oil or simple WD-40 will do the same thing.
One of my small speakers is very sticky. I don’t know how it got that sticky in the first place but I’m going to try your method to see if it works.
Thanks
Yes please update us on your results.
Bravo ! et merci 😊
Same crap on modern-day cameras. It stretches, bubbles, and starts peeling. You can't even get it back on as it has stretched.
Try using a damp Magic Eraser. You will have to do a lot of rubbing but it works without using harsh chemicals
Chinese skin is so thick that it’s impervious to toxic chemicals.
thank you for the tip!
Damn man.. This recommendation just what I'm looking for!!!
I've heard that unleaded petrol works well for this. I've had good results using Planet Ark - Orange Power.
Left over COVID 19 hand gel is about 70% Ethanol and works well.
FYI, this doesn't always work without some disgusting damage to the plastic. Acetone is like model glue and softens it to the point that it sticks to the cloth and eff's up the finish.
That noise drive me crazy -.-
Seems a variety of organic solvents are working. Lately orange cleaners are all the rage on the net to remove the sticky goo but I see no reason to buy one if you don't already have it. I've removed the stickiness successfully with brake cleaner. Why brake cleaner? Because I already had it. Brake cleaner is not ideal, it evaporates very quickly, maybe a bit too fast. Some formulations of brake cleaner contain harmful ingredients, so good ventilation is mandatory. Or a suitable gas mask, if you prefer. I'd be careful with paint thinner which may dissolve or discolour some types of plastic. If that's what you intend to use, test at an invisible location first.
Some people have reported they had to repeat the procedure after a few months. I'm not sure what the science behind that is - in particular if there is any relation to the solvent used. All I can say is that so far I did not have to repeat the procedure.
I use white spirit, final clean with methylated spirit works fine for most sticky residue
Damnit!!! Why didn’t I see this a week ago? I just threw out a pair of AKG 550 that did this, I kept them for years trying to figure out how to get it off. I literally JUST finally threw them out because I knew that I’d never figure out how to get rid of the stickiness
You are the best, thankyou
no baking soda?
The fumes from acetone can damage some electronics.
Acetone melt some types of plastics. Use with caution.
That peel though...
If it involves electronic equipment its Best to use contact cleaner fluid
It will clean the surface and will not damage the electronics inside
Does that work on small rubber wheels
Yes.
Another option is to use undyed leather conditioner, which is like hand cream but more chemically stable.
That only works with ABS hard type plastic. Soft plastic will get ruined by acetone
Actually you can clean things with white vinegar. Very effective it could even clean resin marks from my jacket
Isopropyl alcohol works too
For those that don’t know, acetone is the primary ingredient in nail polish remover. Extremely drying to the skin.
I bought a used ubiquiti amplify HD set. The router and antenna's where disgusting because if the stupid coating that became sticky. Acetone did the trick but it took a lot of effort
Thats weird I would have thought the acetone would melt plastic.
is acetone same as lighter fluid/refill ?
Wonder whose bright idea it was to use rubber in the first place.
thanks idol!
USE Hand Sanitiser Gel !!!!!!
tq, good tips & approved by me!
I use it too!
Shouting the word 'USE' in a sentence......😂😂😂
thanks Cleveland
@@nicksmith8557Most do in real life
Acetone will melt some grades of plastic, don’t use acetone if possible, and wear gloves if possible also a mask
Just use baking soda. It worked wonders for me
Baking soda works and is less likely to poison you or degrade the plastic. It is messy and requires some elbow grease.
@@awlduneI used starch on the past. It doesn’t removes , but kind of make it “dry” again.
@@pplo If you scrub with a baking soda paste, it definitely removes the rubberized coating
Make sure to clean all the acetone off. It likes to melt things =D
I wish i can clean my browing history this clean
Thanks I will need to use this on my $100 Logitech mouse i bought only a year and half ago. Already the the plastic is starting to wear off.
Why does it work?
you just need 99% isopropyl alcohol and microfiber cloths and just rub for about 20 minutes
I wonder if zippo fluid works or kerosene.
Nobody saw the white markings behind... while acetone is too aggressive and might damage the p,astic, isopropyl Alcohol takes more time but is the best solution. Once stickiness is removed, to much IPA or too much pressure with cloth will erase the markings !
Will it work on my sticky dashboard of my old car? And where can I buy the chemical?
EASY OFF IS THE BEST FOR THIS. JUST WIPE AND THATS ALL
Nope. There are some stubborn rubbers that just doesn’t come out easily. Sometimes I use isopropyl alcohol or just starch to make it un sticky again
Will it turns sticky again?
No
Ah, good tips I have problems with my Canon Camera lens
Acetone - Ace Tone - tone of Ace Frahley's guitar 😅
Rocket Ride 🚀
I use regular alcohol and it work really good
Make sure that you spread the acetone, dirt, grease, lube, excrement, crusty sock fluid, and rubber that's being eaten off onto the electronic ports with your rag for a better connection.
who was the fool that invented this melting plastic...
Thank
This kind of coating finishes is the disaster for different kind of products, from stationery to electronics😢
No need for acetone, just use babywipes
I use 91% isopropyl alcohol. Every product I've ever owned with that rubber texture has turned sticky like that.
Alcohol typically works pretty well in electronics. If only it worked on the 2010’s era Toyota Camry dashboards. They used that crappy plastic and after a few years, it’s a gummy mess.
Does anything work on those sticky Toyota dashboards?
AmorAll works too
Is a dog being murdered out back??
@@gannas42 im in asia so you can guess.
Baking soda and water, make a paste and rub it into the plastic much safer
bumalik ba ang pagkaka sticky after a few months?
No. Tinanggal mo na yung dahilan bat nag sticky
Try Coca Cola, WD-40 or urin...The last one is cost free 😉
Interesting if you're game 😂

@@starguard4122 yes. Although a nail polish remover is less concentrated than this
