Cleveland-born David Wilcox was inspired to play guitar after hearing a fellow college student playing in a stairwell. His lyrical insight is matched by a smooth baritone voice, virtuosic guitar chops, and creative open tunings, giving him a range and tenderness rare in folk music. He released an independent album in 1987, was a winner of the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk award in 1988, and by 1989 he had signed with A&M Records. His first release on the label, 'How Did You Find Me Here', sold over 100,000 copies the first year largely by word of mouth. Now, 18 albums into a career marked by personal revelation and wildly loyal fans, David continues to find and deliver joy, inspiration, and invention.
Considered a 'songwriter's songwriter', he holds audiences rapt with nothing more than a single guitar, thoroughly written songs, a fearless ability to mine the depths of human emotions of joy, sorrow and everything in between, and all tempered by a quick and wry wit.
Reflecting on well over 20 years of record-making and touring extensively around the US and world, Wilcox says, "Music still stretches out before me like the head-lights of a car into the night. It's way beyond where I am, but it shows where I'm going. I used to think that my goal was to catch up, but now I'm grateful that the music is always going to be way out in front to inspire me."
This is one of my favorite songs. My town was just hit by two tornadoes and we are without power. While working in the yard cleaning everything up, I found myself singing this song on repeat. Not a hurricane but close enough.
This song is cooler than a frozen popsicle on a hot July night!! The melody moves me like few songs do! Just an acoustic guitar and David’s passionately singing! 💕🎼💕
First heard you in a bar my dad used to own in Schodack, NY when I was young. This morning 20+ years later your songs are still with me and this one popped back in my head. I hope life has treated you well. Thank you for your music and all you do.
Fan for life
Just bought an 89 hurricane, gonna be a good summer!
I never get tired of listening to this song, David. Without a doubt, it is one of your very best. Wishing you continued success, Steve.
I wore out this cassette playing it in my Walkman between 1989 and 1992. Still love every song, but this one and "The Kid" are my favorites.
I remember the first time I heard hurricane. I have ridden for years and even had the opportunity to ride the Hurricane. This song struck a deep cord in my sole. I loved the song and bought your CD loved every song on it. Your an amazing writer and singer and guitar master. Many years have passed . And re found you on you tube. Brought back memories. I'm 59 now and still ride but the slower bikes currently Harley Davidson Roadglide. Thank you David for your music !
Great song!! Awesome beat with David’s stellar vocals…💕💕
My favourite song of all time. Thank you for your music.
I got to ride a Honda Hurricane once. Just once. That was enough for me, way too much power in that throttle! But I've been listening to this great song over and over since it came out.
One of my favorites! Thanks.
Sitting with Kayla, Tessa and Sophia on a cool humid evening where I bask in the love of family! Best nights ever.
"Be Here Now" Asheville NC, 1994.
Am I a fan? YEAH !!!
It was in a bar on Black Mt. A woman who was drunk wanted this song.
I don't know if you made the parody up on the spot, but you singing, and her complaining was the highlight of the show
Good vibes & even better lyrics comin' outta this one, keep it up!
When I hear this song, I think about a friend who tried to thread the needle on his Kawasaki 500. Unfortunately, he didn't make it.😢
This song’s about the addiction to adrenaline…the worst addiction there is…the only way to trigger adrenaline is to almost end up dead or severely Injured… _”you can get what’s second best but it’s hard to get enough”_ no, with adrenaline, *THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS ENOUGH* you just keep going until it kills you…
My dad loved this song when it first came out. We were a motorcycling family. Now that I haven't ridden in years, this song hits hard. But am I the only one bothered by the image here being a gsxr? Lol
i still love this great melody, acoustic guitar, astounding, song, of my BA Grad Year... :) 💜😊💫✨
but i hate motorcycles, with really good reasons... :/ &, the only 'speeding,' wothwhile, is in your mind !!! 💧
David,
Saw you play this at the Coach House the late 80’s I think.
Thanks again! But how did you find me here?
ces ouragans que tu chantes. ils ne sont pas en sécurité mais nous les recherchons ?
