David is on my list of "Songwriter's Songwriter's" - his lyric~chord interplay and use of metaphor to convey his take on the human condition, sharp mind, simple musical physique. Rusty Old American Dream and Eye of A Hurricane have been on my set list for years. Thanks David!
this brings back some good memories, last time I heard this song it was live at Camp Rockmont... that had to be in the late eighties, glad to hear you again
The place I first saw him play (Rosebud in the Strip District of Downtown Pittsburgh) just burned down. I love the part in this song where he changes the key by actually moving the Capo, while in an open tuning. Can’t get more original than that. Loved the personal conversation I had with him about “Jamie’s Secret”.
Pittsburgh, my hometown as well. I guess naming a club after Orson Wells' Kane and his haunting childhood memory was a formula for limited success at best :).
I find myself singing this while polishing chrome bumpers more than I’d like to admit, while still wondering how to approach the guy down the road with the ‘57 mercury sitting on the side of the road with a for sale sign.

I love this song!
Such a great song! Never gets old! Unlike cars... (my second favorite is Top of the Rollercoaster, fyi)

@@iracaplan2282 I guess so. It was such a cool place, albeit next to Metropol. But it had a great vibe and I thought it was ahead of it’s time.
Written & sung from the POV of a 2-tone 1958 Oldsmobile.
Love this song! It conjures up a teven King “ Christine “ vibe for me. Thanks David!
