A couple points. I guess we need to distinguish the qa engineer, sdet and test analyst titles firstly. I see a lot of confusion in the market. Better paying quality jobs are usually posted as Sdet because it is involved with software development engineer skills a lot. Also another fact that is that companies and especially recruiters take advantage of covid by cutting salaries by as high as 30%! I guess after the market goes back to normal there will be a huge migration
@King of Prussia interesting - I was thinking that COVID would make it easier for folks to get higher-paying jobs because most of them are now remote and easier to get. But it sounds like from your experience this is not the case? :(
@@JoeColantonio yes unfortunately. I also hear a lot about others’ experiences in the community as well. I put the recruiters aside since they want to take advantage of the current situation(sorry but i have had bad experiences with them). When I look at the h1blist data, my current salary is down by at least 30% from someone hired in 2019. Also foreign workers usually get paid less. When you consider that you go nuts. Anyways, i am really thankful that i have a job in this environment and do my best to perform my duties.
I've been an SDET in the past but found that the requirements aren't that much different from my current role as Automated Test Engineer. It seems the newer test automation is to a company the less defined the role is and it seems to cover a general broader scope based on the org and team needs.
I do not think those titles matter much. Maybe in some companies in the Valley. In my current role, I started as SDET but was doing like 5% automation... Now, same role renamed QA Engineer and doing 5X more automation than 3-4 years ago when I was a SDET.

@@Sece1 what community can I grow to learn this.
Thank you for talking about this interesting topic
Here in the United States Sdets are mostly 1099
Isn't it more profitable for them to hire people from outside of country? Pay a lot less?

It's a same role. Just different tile.
I like the idea of Seder but I feel they are severely underpaid which makes me move to developer.

Sdet vs cyber security vs devx?

Most Sdets are contractors and healthcare is so expensive
