I know you repeat yourself in making each video, on many a pinball tip; such as you did in this video, with contact movement in make & break contacts. And this is greatly appreciated! Sometimes a new viewer just hap's upon one of your videos and helps them. It also reminds us long time viewers of those simple, but necessary steps. Thanks for your continual reminders!
Hey you bring back history for us to remember and revive the life of these machines. I solute you for helping this. Thankyou
Hi Ron, going to be watching this one again. Kind of reminds me of my Fun Cruise machine! Thanks to you and Joe. Have a good weekend! Catch you Tuesday!
That system is amazing for the era. Having a game auto adjust difficulty is something programmers still struggle with. I see why you call it rigged, but in the light of keeping your repair/profit ratio in check, this is amazing.
Fascinating and rewarding, as ever. Thanks again for filming and sharing. Regards
Wow I have a Dixieland in storage I’m going to restore , I didn’t know about that stepper only moving half a rivet ,, thanks so much for this informative videos as always , greetings from australia
As always, good stuff. Nice walk through of how you do it!
since the lights still cycle the player probably wouldn’t even notice that the odd are being stacked. As always a great video thanks
This thumper bumper control unit is so interesting, thanks for the explanation!
That Thumper Button control circuit is similar to the "Reflex Circuit" in Bally Bingo games. On those, it got looser the more you played credits (these were multicredit games. At a nickel per credit, you might spend $3 or $4 dollars trying to turn certain features on). When you won free credits, it tightened up. If you played the credits back in, it would loosen back up. But if you cashed out, the game would remove the credits and leave the game in a tight setting.
Awesome episode, I soooooo like these old EM’s and your repairing them, thanks!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great, I walk up after Tommy FINALLY finishes and the machine is harder to play! 😞 Really cool setup tbh - the creativity and how they made that work with old-school tech is really neat! 🤓 Thanks for bringing us along and explaining that feature! 😃 If I get some space I really need to get some EM machines. Love playing them and, thanks to you and your brother, I love 'em even more seeing and understanding what's under the hood! 😎
hello joe ? . I used to have one of these in the early 80s. I only paid ten pounds (those were the days) It was broke , But after a little cleaning it came back to life . really clever machine . very fast play because of the double thumper bumpers . the way the use score the pumpkins that you lite bally and then hit the middle mushroom. 7 mushrooms 1 replay 10 mushroom 2 replays .the special was not a replay but it had a coil that use to shoot the ball back into play . keep making the videos you have help me fix quite afew machines yours D Todd
Belated Happy 4th of july.
thanks for yet a intresting video.
waiting for the next part.
🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you for showing me my new favorite em pinball mech. Auto difficulty adjust indeed! Very cool stuff..
The playfield condition is remarkably good despite the years.
Great episode as usual! I always learn something new!
So many extras balls in play with star trek. You have a brother Donnie i watch.
Happy Saturday everybody ☝️🥱
Still Friday here, have a nice weekend!
Bally really made some great games. This one is going to be good!!
"I still don't understand the haystacks and the pumpkins"
Well, when a man and a woman...
Brown chicken brown cow!!!
That’s a nice machine i played one back in 86
interesting, i was expecting a clothes peg or something shoved in there
Great work Ronnie. That automatic adjuster for lighting the 10 point scoring is a tricky and hidden feature - designed to make things harder for good players. ….It’s almost cheating, but I guess you can call it a feature. ….but only for the operator, and not the player. …I don’t think it’s accidental that Gottlieb never had this kind of stuff. When the players worked out the machine got harder the minute they had some success, I’m not sure if this feature would have been somewhat counter productive. …The players may have decided to put coins in the Gottlieb’s and Williams machines where this was not going on…Not sure but it would not surprise me. Players generally have an instinct for a machine that plays well, and the same, every time.
Thanks for explaining this unique and different aspect to the early Bally games.
I may have mentioned it before but in the 60s in Australia this is how things were: for every 10 pinball machines, 7 were Gottlieb’s, 2 were Williams and 1 was a Bally. …With the introduction of solid state games Bally went from last to first in double quick time, but for E M games Gottlieb was always king.
As far as I know (I wasn't around!) that was pretty much the distribution over here too. Gottlieb was king, and I run into many more Williams games than Ballys from this era. Still, I like the Ballys as well just because they're different (and Ted Zale tried really hard to make an interesting game)
I have seen something similar on some CPU based pinball games too. I think The Simpsons had several states in which it either altered the magnet power or something because things became harder to hit as you advanced and it was like the machine wanted you dead. I remember it came on as the number of locks on the multiball came on and the longer you played. I also think that some of the Jersey Jack pinballs can change the flipper strength. I also remember Indiana Jones had a setting about how often certain bonus features would activate including the 8-ball multiball.
But this type of feature on a non-bingo EM is pretty advanced for its time.
Hi Ron!
I have more than a passing curiosity concerning the configuration of the coin mech(s) on this machine... The coin slots appear to be incorporated into the lock bar... Was this common in machines of this era?
Thumper Bumper. So much more fun than pop bumper. 🎊
I love my star trek pinball machine
Just love the spinner for extra balls
Have you tried using CAIG DeoxIT D5 on the connectors? I hear it's really good stuff!
On the positive side, making the game easy at some point will give someone the little high of winning an easy free game and then they will be more inclined to feed it coins in the future.
JOE told me it's BROKE.❤
What do you use to clean the relays? I've used brake cleaner. That works great. I have Kewpie Doll pinball machine. I've never cleaned the jones plugs.
We just clean ours with a little file, we don't like spraying stuff on them because it soaks into the wiring (the cloth around the wires)... brake cleaner is very flammable so I wouldn't use it on this particular application but that doesn't mean it doesn't work, it might work fine... Thank you for watching!
@@LyonsArcade This is true it is very flammable. It has a high evaporation point and is literally gone in minutes (at least visually) even though the smell can linger around. I've done the same thing to juke boxes.
Hey Ron!!
Hey Jason!
really colorful EM edition
Smooth movely
I really love your videos on pin balls. Are you still doing your old radio videos? Haven't seen one pop up in a while.
If he does, it will appear on his second channel:- www.youtube.com/@amateurrepairtime
I'm still doing them I just haven't finished one in awhile, I've been busy working on some stuff
When will Joan start cleaning her own plugs?
Bally was responsible for gambling, and it looked like they were reluctant to let it go and returned to it in the 2000s
