Anyone else start waving their arms at the kitchen? No, just me?
I just use my gravity gloves.
Haha, I definitely started waving my arms at my husband :D
@@Candesce Goodness, you're not a spider, are you?
See Animalogic's latest video ;)
cillia always turns me sillier
I like to watch these before going to bed. Its very relaxing
this is gonna be my new favorite thing, thank you good sir
I fall asleep to this channel too but the episodes are always so fascinating that I end up rewatching the next day
same! For the last month I’ve been falling asleep to these almost every day
Exactly
same
I've said it once, I'll say it again. The way the introduction, background music, and narration blend together is a great artistic choice. It's comfy
'Long-range snacking'... sounds like you just found the next "Quarantine Olympics' event...
Lol
Underrated comment
Y'all can go home I already won 🤣
First month of quarantine I taught my dog to bring me snacks from the kitchen 🐕
Sometimes he mistakes condiments or dry cup noodles for snacks 🙃
Does that disqualify us??? 🤔
That's okay, I love him ♥️
*1:27** - You caught me in my bulking-up regimen! Gotta carb-load and beef up for that hot-summer cylindrical trunk!*
Remember, bro: never skip foot day.
I'm starting to feel like the Journey crew has a crush on Vorticella
Don't we all?
Really though, those legs,,, so many l e g s
And what,s not to love?
who doesnt
Vorticella keeps coquettishly batting its eyelashes at them
Hank talking energetically about How to Vote in Every State: yep, cool
Hank talking calmly about microbes: yep, cool
Hank talking calmly about How to Vote in Every State: WHO ATE YOU AND WHAT DID YOY DO WITH HANK
*Cilia over here! Cilia over there!*
*Wave your cilia in the microbial fluid like you just don't care!*
Hello rotifer you have an outstanding Corona as always
Rotifer how could you not have content?
Bro I’ve been growing you I a jar bro you are truly fantastic I must say
Any chance you can get some up close slow motion footage of the cilia?
They always move so fast you can never get a good look at them.
I wish they can collab with the slow-mo guys.
@@fcgHenden Small-mo guys
5:18- "Well, if that guy isn't going to stop talking about me while I'm trying to eat, I'm just gonna leave."
Understandable, really. The little campanella didn't have many other options, it can't say anything, it's impolite to talk while eating.
Because I'm so early, I want to say THANK YOU ALL, everyone who has a role in the creation of this masterpiece of a channel!
PS. Still. One day waiting for 1440p or 4K.
I think on this one 60fps would make more of a difference
There is a slice of cheesecake on the kitchen counter right now... to think, if I were a peritrich ciliate I could just summon it into my mouth...
They spin their cilia around very quickly for quite some time. Not sure it's as effortless as you think
it always blows my mind to think about how there is an entire world of microorganisms within our world.
One could even argue we build our world atop theirs, as they exist in every inch of this world that supports life, and have most certainly been here the longest
There is an entire world of microorganisms within your own body.
worlds in worlds
You guys should do a series on how the advent of microbiology shaped history.
I always love these videos, thanks for being a great host Hank. And to everyone who works on Journey to the Microcosmos
you always make my day :)
Your pronunciation of "van Leeuwenhoek" is very good. Thank you for the trouble it took to get it right. This Dutch name is difficult.
One of the best UA-cam series ever...
I honestly hope you do plankton one day. Look up Dinoflagellates. If you think something that sucks is cool, check out something that shoots!
I'm imagining all of the thousands of hours people have stared at these to study them in order for you to have learned all of this about them
Thank you! Beautiful footage and music in this one. And I could listen to Hank talk about anything all day.
Hank Green ASMR
Wow! That Trichodina at 3:56 was stunningly beautiful.
Remind me of the corona of the Sun
We ordered a DIC microscope to get images like this, stay tuned! :)
@@JamsGerms Ooooo! That will be a game changer. I can hardly wait!
Mobilid = NYOOOOM
i will literally never tire of old timey descriptions of microorganisms
me at 3 am tryna get a night snak
I always love a new episode of Hank Green ASMR
Is it possible to do a collaboration with Smarter Every Day to shoot some slow-mo for those fast micro actions?
The scene where the four or five of them around one stalk may be how multicellular life evolved.
What are those spiked crystals on 5:50 ? Amazing content as always
I am not sure.
Crap, I know I’ve seen something like that before, but it’s been years...
"left" turn. See what you did there :p
3:03 Are you telling me vorticella have telekinesis?
I've been watching Journey to the Microcosmos for a while. I liked their videos. That is why I decided to create my own sci-fi/futurist Channel. 👍🙂
The Futurist Tom This channel started 10 months ago...try again
1:47 They're doing some synchronized swimming practice...
would it be possible to do slo-mo shots of cilia? I would love to see them moving individually.
What is stopping you from waving your arms in the air when food is fifty feet away from you? Live your dream, man.
>Long-Range Snacking
Is it possible to learn this power?
It protec, it attac. But most importantly, cilia bring back the snac
Is the background music anywhere by itself on loop?
It popped into my head and it’s really relaxing but I wish I could listen to it *outside* of my head while working! Lol
This channel is amazing please never stop
“Good at eating.”
Reminds me of someone...
By inventing restaurant food delivery, we humans have finally caught up with ciliates.
7:58 Surirella is a genus of diatom
Peter Gray that’s what’s it’s attached to
'To draw food toward their mouthey-thing.' Just brilliant!
Hello everyone. talk to me.
what are the line thing creatures at 5:52?
given the size, likely diatoms?
Definitely “varse” like 😉
I’d love to see a flowchart-style diagram showing the breakup of the various life forms in the microcosmos
Another great video. Thanks everyone. Small point Hank, from the Antonie van Leeuwenhoek quote, not DIvers, but diVErs (i.e. diverse)
Thank you for these fascinating videos. Really makes you think of the universe as a whole, seeing how incredibly intricate and beautiful the microcosmos is.
hello
what the... I thought those were jump-cuts!
5:46 WTF? That thing moves so fast....
Will You guys ever discuss the microbes in rainwater or krill/plankton or are they to big to be considered microscopic
I wonder what we can study about propulsion of those vorticella stalks. That looked pretty mind blowing, actually the whole video was mindblowing. This is the clearest microbiology I have ever seen, I'm a total newb, and this is going to help me with my morphology identification, thank you for your channel!
Александра, i'm glad to see a comrad here, especially among patreons
Great video as usual guys but just for your info, in the 17th century the word "divers" is just an archaic relation of "diverse" meaning many, several in number or of varying types. Not things that dive!
Ayy, someone got there!
@@EggBastion Hehe I was waiting for a comment that said "where did he say it meant things that dive?" and I'd have had to say that it was clear from the inflection that he was treating the word as a noun rather than an adjective and that the only possible noun it could be is "a thing that dives." Anyway glad to know you're out there, knowing stuff ;)
I love this channel it’s always so relaxing thank you for talking me on this journey
OMG is this Hank Green narrating? Why did I only just notice this? What drugs do you take to get this chill, Hank? I want some.
I want to be a micro biologist I'm a philipino
I love your channel, its wonderful and contemplative, and you all do such an amazing job, would you please do a video on noctiluca scintillans?
It would totally be the best video, especially with Hanks voice, the UA-cam equivalent of Sir David Attenborough, and James the ever so dedicated procurer of microbes! Please keep it in consideration, thanks guys!
2:14
Oh yeah? Depending on where you're from, "broken"-like shape!
Thank you for the non-partisan guide to voting. I greatly appreciate that you are encouraging everyone to vote without allowing your personal stance infect a channel devoted to science
5:42
am speed NYOOOOOOOOOOMMM
"Mightily diverting" video!
Love all the videos. Absolutely fascinating work. Bravo!
I think these are my ancestors
your cool videos are mightily diverting
I had to give it a thumbs up after hearing 'mouthy-thing'
5:45 GOTTA GO FAST *ZOOMIES ACTIVATED*
Yo guys, how can i contact them? I have a video i wanna sent to them
This channel always brings me so much joy.
Thanks for sharing all these amazing videos! The best part of Biology class was always microscope day.
We were doing the strawberry DNA experiment in the teacher forgot the slides and it was very sad because I want to see DNA
@@acompletelynormalhuman6392 Heres the thing DNA is to small to see.
@@JcoleMc slides as in microscope slides
So they're the barnacles of the microcosmos?
They look like a bunch of balloons tied together
Love these videos!
Collab with the slow-mo guys?
But without the exploding microscopes with spinning paint... 😅
What would a Rotifer look like if we scaled it up to a human size?
ps: great channel
please have a collaboration with ZeFrank. This will be really really fun!
@3:00 that is how a vorticella do.
855 the tiniest bouquet of flowers
Mad microscopy skills yo!👍
Journey to the microcosmos, what’s your favorite micro organism and have you kept it was a pet?
I love that this channel exists
Video: ..this Campanella has decided to leave it's stalk and swim off somewhere new.
Campanella: 5:19 *OW my BACK... guess I haven't stretched in a while*
So cool at my 2. Attempt i found one ....this vids make me dust off my mikroskop....thanks for This nowlige that u give!!! Big up!@!
Hank: Highly practiced science communicator, best-selling author
Also Hank: "mouthy thing"
I've not watched this yet. I'm saving the moment for my end-of-the-day relax treat.
Waving my hands at the tasty chicken just makes it run away.
I don't think you have cooked the chicken enough then... 🐔
Is computerized framing available to allow you hands-free following of slippery bugs?
love your channel anyway! but this video was offered by UA-cam right after a cooking video 😂 keep up your nice work 🍀
To think I had seawater in my mouth and eyes on multiple occasions, and it was teeming with life, and it all turned out all okay for me.
Maybe I have vorticella on my eyes and don't even know omg. What a weird thought
Luckily probably not! The mechanical motion of blinking and the very mildly antiseptic properties of tears help keep our eyes relatively clear
Has anyone ever been able to film these cilia with a slow motion camera? I would love to see the individual cilia, if possible, and how exactly they move. Also at 8:46, they look like a bunches of delicate little bells, or flowers, they're very pretty in their own way.
Fascinating, as always. A bit heavy on the terminology in this episode. I like the way you anthropomorphorosize the little creatures.
Yeah, being able to open the fridge from my desk and make a sandwich without getting up really does sound like the life. Those fellas got it good.
If Occam’s razor is applied I’d say the mobolid order most likely diverged rather than converged
I figured out that mycelium does not mean "fungus eyelash", that was disappointing.
So the difference between these two ciliate types is about the same as the difference between a Plug-In Vacuum and a Roombah?
Of these peritrich ciliates, mobile telotrochs use their trochal band, whereas the trophont sessilids use peristome cilia. Feels like I'm watching interdimensional cable.
Wait... wait. Are you saying that _Vorticella _*_SUCK_* like no other creature can?
"Use the force, Vorticella." Vorticella used the force. * snack acquired *
So do you use the flashlight-looking microscope that connects to your tablet, or just a common microscope?
I hate that I cannot have my microscope here at work with me. Every time I watch this channel I want to look for myself. At least at home I can take my time and enjoy. I should go home early!
Love this series, coming to soothe me during a 1 AM episode of insomnia
This has been a particularly engaging episode. Thanks so much!
Your voice is soothing. A worthy heir to Freeman's soothing, dulcet tones.
