*3:23** - Don't mind me in the background, just grabbing a quick snack.*
Hey rotifer I've always seen you write weird stuff in this channels comment section. Are you a microbiologist yourself??
Hey rotifer I've always seen you write weird stuff in this channels comment section. Are you a microbiologist yourself??
Hows that organic detritus? I'm thinking of trying some for myself.
henlo
Thanks for identifying yourself! I had just come down here to ask what the organism in the background at 3:23 was!
*Synura-infused Essential Oils are the secret to maintaining perfectly clear and plump cell membranes. I use it religiously during my morning routine!*
@@RICDirector sjdhhdsjsxj thank you for making a joke on the essential oil seller's comment
bubblegumplastic. I don’t think rotifers can sell essential oils.
You are supposed to be the chosen one!
bubblegumplastic it’s a joke about synura… Rotifer is not capable of selling essential oils (hopefully)
@@bubblegumplastic wait that isn't a joke? I thought the OC was kidding
please do episodes about pollen now that allergy season is starting!
Microbes with hay-fever?? Yeah I want to see that to.. why should we be the only ones to suffer :P
Ah, Allergy Season. I'm so glad I'm staying home
Virus
@@tyrstone3539 Can't see a virus with a normal microscope..... way to small.
It's plant sex
Shake, shake, shake, Synura
Shake your body line,
Shake, shake, shake, Synura,
Shake it all the time
Work, work, work, Synura,
Work your body line
Work, work, work, Synura,
Work it all the time...
lol you win the comments for this one.
Okay, I believe you.
Lol
Jump in the line, shake flagella in time.
siren synapse It’s a song reference. Look up “Jump in Line Beetlejuice.”
This dude should do audio books, voice gunna put my ass to sleep..but in a good way.
His name is Hank Green and he has a channel called Vlogbrothers :)
Also Hank's Channel, and a number of Crash Course video series. All good stuff, with a captivating variety of energy levels and topics. Go explore!
And he reads one chapter in the audiobook to his book "an absolutely remarkable thing"
You should see him on him and his brothers UA-cam channel! Still a great voice but full of energy and passion
Ded2thaworld ! And with the music! I love this music.
You and your team are inspiring to so many. We may never know the fruit that will come incubated by your inspiring insights into the world of the microcosmos.
this channel kickstarted my microbio hobby, which solidified my major choice!
@@elenatroiae Amazing, I've been tempted to do the same!
I could watch these videos for hours. They're so relaxing, intriguing, and beautiful.
I'm stealing that the next time my wife tells me I stink after a workout.
"No... I have an honest aroma."
Lol
The last time I was this early. Multiceluar organisms hadn't developed yet
I too am a single celled amoeboid that sits in the dark
Are you gonna chuck flaming rocks at me?
I'm a sponge
7:34 Oh my god?! You discovered the first micro black hole ever!!
Thank you for giving us another Journey into the Microcosmos
7:36 i need to know what that black thing is.... is freaking me out
It appears like another organism like the ones that are in focus, but it seems like it's closer to the lense, and the imaging technique that they are using (the background is blue) causes it to appear dark.
Literally why I came to the comment section 🤣
A soot sprite clearly xD
It's Coronavirus!
Now you have reasons to freak out xD
trans,cis-deca-2,4-dienal means something to me: I GOTTA DRAW THAT
And you pronounced it like -dienol at the end which is something different, a molecule with less resonance
Amazing, this was a beautiful episode. It was like there were all these little gems dancing over my screen. Indeed the microcosmos is though sometimes smelly, of an exceptional beauty.
Yes!!!! Something new!!!! Thank you!!!
I never expected to find a Gandalf quotation in these videos! ROFL
Thanks!
As a hispanic, every time you said Synura i could only hear “señora” lol
🤣🤣🤣
¿Señora?
Thanks, Patrons, for your part in improving the world - and maybe humanity? - with your generosity towards this channel and us..
Interesting, relaxing and unique. The only complaint is there should be a video every day😂
Loved the Gandalf quote xD
Dude your voice is so calming and the editing and visuals are too. keep it up dude!
This channel has fueled my love of microbiology. It turned a spark that started in my zoology class into a roaring flame. It inspired me (in part) to create an award-winning science project on microscopes, which is what motivated my parents to buy me a really nice microscope with a digital camera and the accompanying software for my computer.
Hank, you have been inspiring my love of science ever since I found my first crash course chemistry episode almost 5 years ago. Thank you a million times over for constantly bringing this joy and wonder into my life. I would not be who I am or on the path that I am without a deep love of science, for which I hold you largely responsible. ❤️❤️❤️
(Edit: Also, “This Isn’t Hogwarts“ is probably one of my favorite songs😂) You know, just in case you see this, I wanted to let you know.
Xanthophyll can make its presence known in the macro world, as well - if a deciduous tree drops yellow leaves in the autumn, it's due to mostly xanthophyll remaining.
This is basically tied for the highest-quality channel on UA-cam. I love it
What's the other one?
I reccommend this channel to everyone I know, I love it so much, it's just so so good, pure, and just plain wonderful
thanks yall for getting videos out reliably during the pandemic! I hope that everyone whobis working on these videos is staying safe!
Perfect. Bored out of my mind at work right now.
It would have been nice if you had said something about what they eat (if anything), what they're doing that produces such exotic waste chemicals, why they collect in small colonies, and why they bloom in spring. Rather than focusing so much on smell metaphors and collection strategies. Maybe the answer to these questions is "nobody knows," in which case that would have been good to know, too.
I have a few questions:
1. Under the microscope, how much of the z-axis do we see (besides the x-y plane)? What's the DOF that we are dealing with?
2. How thick is the typical z-axis when samples are prepared?
3. So far all the movement we see is left-right up-down, all we learn in school and see everywhere is that the "microcosmos" world is "flat"; how different do the organisms react/move when it's in the "real" world (where z-axis is "infinite") vs on the limited depth of the samples that we are viewing?
4. Do micro organism even care about 3D space, or everything to them is 2D-ish.
5. Any technology available to have a more 3D representation of the microcosmos?
Algae is the powerhouse of the Microcosmos
I'm sorry, but I believe that mitocondria already copyrighted that phrase in their DNA...
There’s a goth one in the last clip
When discussing the history of microbes, or anything, we have to never forget the continents drift. 400 to 500 million years ago what we know as Antarctica was on the equator for at least 200 million years.
Liked for new info about stuff I smell when in the outdoors. Loved for LOTR reference
A magnificent Video. every frame of this Microcosmos world seems like a masterpiece of art.
Great Videos guys! keep it up :)
When you quoted Gandalf I knew I was in the right place.
Endoplasmic reticulum is a word i heard a couple times in 7th grade biology and never forgot, though today I couldn't begin to tell you anything about what it is
These chill videos are my favorite
This is so therapeutic I fisically feel a bit of my anxiety sleeping away 🌼
I wonder who eats synura? And how well fish, tadpoles and water bugs survive their blooms?
The scale is hard to fathom, could you guys do a zoom in an onion or something at different magnification 2x .. 4x.. 100x ect. It would help to show the progression of the tiny scale when the numbers get incomprehensible.
that's not how a microscope works
@@carlosandleon lol good job
Nice, I like this theme music. And Synura.
Oh god they look delicious
until you smell them...... x __ x
Wash_Your_Fruits: If they smell like cucumbers, then that’s as good as they look!
Nooooo no eat!
These videos make so happy ❤️
Thank you Hank and James
So what’s the difference between a vesicle and a vacuole?
Always beautiful to watch. And educational too
I am curious about the smaller rectangular being near the top and about 1/3rd from the right at 6:56 . It seems to have a ladder shaped assembly with either three or four rungs and lots of flagella at each of its four corners. I do not see anything else on this or any of the other shots that look quite like this one.
I never really thought about it, but I should have expected Hank would go full Bob Ross
Where can I listen to the music by itself? It's amazing
As someone that enjoys fishing small ponds, I know that smell!
This is lovely. I always appreciate the calm voice & music.
One thing that poked at my brain, though: 7:17 Isn't the singular of algae "alga?"
I always eat when watching these because everything looks so tasty
Unreal this channel.. that voice suits
It's weird that this channel isn't larger
I have a weird seasonal allergy that starts up a good month before plants start up in my very cold region (it lasts for about 3 weeks from late February to mid March). I've never figured out what could be causing it, but maybe I need to think smaller
This series has inspired me enough to look at microscopes, wondering what I might find in my local surf break :)
The begining of this video is pure amazing for a Life discoverer... Something say me I'm more sad than a person born in May because I was born in November, and the general world temperatures has been decreased till The minium temperature in Jenuary, either the May born person one was born in a Period when the temperature is rising from the minimum to the maxium so this mean it's perceive is to increas it's humor entropy in the verse of more entropy, instead I'm going to go in a underscale of humor, perceiveng an decreasing of general entropy that cause in me a kind of resistence to this humors that gifted me a kind of secret sadness but constant rational enthusiasm, either the May one have the gift of constant enthusiasm but a deep sadness;
So We have the same emotion at a date time and we know both but in a kind of way we feel in a constant conflict;
The one born in May and me born in November; The first have a different lenghtwave in the passage from an emotion to anothers, and consciousnessly it decrease it's happy, either me, I decrease my lenghwave till have a big sadness, and consiousnessly I get myself happy....
So beautifull. Subs starting to rise.
Hank, how about if you volunteer to be the voice of the Pandemic Updates? Using your Microcosmos voice, not your SciShow Space voice. We need a little calm infused into the situation.
What is the dark purple/black guy tootling around at the end?
I had no idea it was hank green!!! I didn't recognise his voice
Always fascinating💚🔬
That "thaw" pronunciation was music to the ears.
0:41 my jam!
Do you know the track name?
7:25 whats that very dark colored thing that shows up
Another awesome video! Thank you so much! May I ask for a link or name to this music if it exists on its own? I know it’s done by Andrew but can’t find it on his channel. Thanks 🙏 🦠 🧫 🔬 🎶
I really needed this today
Positively fascinating.
These things sound like tiny chemical plants. From silica nano scales to complex organic compounds, they must be very influential in their environment. Do the scales show up in the pond sediment, or dissolve when they pass?
Aren't most cells tiny chemical plants?
You may have been asked this before, so forgive me, as I am new to your channel and so glad I found it too! I have a degree in biology and I've been wanting to get into microscopy as a hobby for a while but a microscope I don't have. Can you recommend something? What do you use? Thanks for pointing me in the right direction if you would....
One wonders, does this mean that allergy season in Xanth is also brownish yellow?
Have a feeling that the opening descriptive paragraph has some Hank Green influence XD
this video helps with anxiety :)
Anyone know where i can find the viby andrew yang song? I can only find the chill one.
me too
Are you guys looking for water samples from other places in the world?
I love this channel
Spring also brings allergies and yard work.
are these those ones that reek of mildew when you go near swampy areas? Or is that a different species
Great video so happy you created this channel this stuff is so fascinating. You guys should contact netflixs and\or BBC to see if you can make a documentary(maybe even a series) that would be so awesome something like planet earth for microbes. (maybe even david attenborough, nothing against Hank just Attenborough has done a doc on basically every life group except microbes.)
3:55 _it overshadows the green color of the chlorophyll,_ sounds like the xanthophyll's yellow is brighter than chlorophyll's green.
I know you know better than this, that pigments absorb light, maybe I am interpreting it wrong but sounds like saying the color of the organism is caused by additive colors when saying _one is overpowering the other_ rather than subtractive like saying _only leaving the only the range between green and red unused_ As you said a sentence earlier _these pigments process different wavelengths._ So these organisms only reflect yellow/orange.
Anyone else curious about that little black/dark brown fella in the end screen? is this a different organism? or is it less healthy/infected?
Spring means *allergies* to me. As much as I love spring (because it means winter is leaving, I live in Canada and we have brutal winters), I also hate it for the allergies it brings along.
Can you make some videos where some of our immune system cells try to fight some of those exterior life forms? Natural killer cell vs stentor or something. I tried to google it, but did find anything resembling real stuff, just animations...
Dig the early posting.
i saw somting similar under microscope but it's a litl more green and just 4 together similar in shape going one way. and they were all similar all 4 or 2. not in bulk like here. similar or other?
What about pollen reproduction/ fertilization. I don't know if that can be seen...
I never heard of a photosynthetic organism that wasn't green before... I wonder if the purpose of the xanthophyll isn't also to mimic waste? It works with the unpleasant smell. Maybe this organism's aim is to deter animals from drinking it's habitat!
Lots of photosynthetic organisms aren't green in fact the bacteriochlorophylls that preceded oxygen producing photosynthesis via Chlorophyll (They use H_2S instead of H_2O as their hydrogen source thus producing S_2 a solid as a waste product instead of O_2 a gas) There are also a number of different types of algae with different variations on Chlorophyll which largely work by shifting the absorbed spectrum of light. Chlorophyll absorbs red and blue light reemitting green light hence it appears green but the aforementioned sulfur bacteria absorb green wavelength reemitting red and blue light hence why they appear purple.
Interestingly after having gone off on a science binge it seems these golden algae are thought to have their unique color due to endosymbiosis of fucoxanthin(a carotenoid) containing cyanobacteria a trait they share with other Stramenopiles/heterokonts diatoms and brown algae(the latter often known as kelp) oh interestingly they apparently also include the parasitic oomycetes and the so called water molds like Phytophthora the cause of the Irish potato famine. These guys seem to be the freshwater counterparts to diatoms and kelp.
Edit Hmm I'm getting a bit of contradictory information where some sources suggest the clade acquired their chloroplasts by endosymbiosis of an Archaeplastida algae (the lineage which red and green algae and land plants descend from) not sure which is correct....
Could you use their metabolic waste as fuel?
Oh. Thats why the rain is fishy...
¡Sì Synura!
What microscope Is this? I NEED ONE!!!
This guy should do voice acting.
Is that what makes that boggy smell after generous rain in the desert?
What's the dark thing moving around at the end?
That explains that New Jersey state smell, you know exactly where you are driving down interstate 95 when you enter those marshlands and that rotten egg smell forces your car windows shut in 100 degree weather for relief.
Would yeast be a good topic?
That was fun.
What is that number that has been showing in the bottom right?
It hasn't always been there, and I am not a microscope user.
I think they added it a few months ago. It's a measure of scale. It gives the length of the reference line that appears immediately above it, e.g., "100 μm" indicates that the line is 100e-6 meters long.
Who doesn't love the smell of rotten cod liver oil in the morning?
[sniiiiiifffffff]
Nurgle be praised!
Anyone thought that it was the resin model in Astroneer?
I did
