The lake on the right lost a lot of water. Where does Vegas's water sources come from aside from that? Because I can see this becoming the world's largest ghost town in 30 or so years.
@@mesupposedly5291 Drought? It's in the middle of a barren hot desert. Of course there's drought. What I'm saying is that city has grown large very fast in the middle of a desert. They definitely have a huge impact on what few means of water they have. I live in San Diego and am almost certain the water usage regulations and taxes are far more strict than Vegas. Either way, I hope the city politicians see trouble ahead and come up with plans (bold ones) to route more water.
@@dbsti3006 in recent years the Rockies haven't been getting as much rain which subsequently Creates less snow. So yes a draught is causing the waters to lower because there's less snow melt feeding into the Colorado not just because it's a desert. Also maybe if California and all you other fucking states figured out an alternate water source instead of blaming a city that's very conservative with it's water usage we wouldn't have such a problem
For all the folks commenting on lake mead, I know that's been in the news lately. But as reported by John Oliver, Las Vegas has some of the strictest and most stringent water rules. Being a native I can attest. As one example, there is literal water police that go around neighborhoods looking for evidence of people wasting water. Most neighborhoods are assigned letters A-F I want to say, and you have a certain day of the week and time of day in which you can manage your water. The colorado river flows into lake mead, so despite Vegas being so heavily depended on it (I mean the hoover dam is right there), it's the other states' fault moreso lol.
Lake Mead is filled by the Colorado which is a river that does not run through deserts entirely, snd most of it's water is from snowpack runoff. The desert comment really didn't make any sense

I love Las Vegas! I've never been there but I hope in the future visit this awesome city, it's an amazing and unique place on the Earth. You should try with Cancun in Mexico. This city had its foundation in 1970. This area was only covered by the jungle, today it's one of the most recognized beach tourist destinations in the world. I love your videos! 😊 They are amazing!
No, they don't "want" more growth. They're trying to meet the demand for the thousands of people that are going to move there because Vegas is one of the fastest growing cities in North America.
Once that lake is gone Los Vegas will just be relocated. They have enough money to do that, but money can't bring back water. That's gonna take people who give a damn.
The Colorado river will never be "gone". It will always produce a certain quantity of water every year. The problem for Colorado River compact states is they use more water than it produces. This is not an unsolvable problem and Las Vegas is already one of the most efficient water users of all the Colorado River compact states. They've had to be since the entire state of Nevada only gets 2% of the water allocated to the upper and lower basins.

Most of the water loss came from the draught in fact Vegas uses very little water when compared to neighboring states and cities.

99% of Las Vegas' indoor water use goes straight back to the lake, and we are very careful with our outdoor water use.
