    A white man from French Lick Indiana and a black man from Lansing Michigan. Two different personalities with a huge gift. It's safe to say we won't be seeing a rivalry or friendship like these two ever again in the NBA.

      Lewis I agree with you. Too many people trying to form super teams in the NBA now. But what a great time in basketball that was back in this era...teams literally got after it, even in the All-Star games.

      @@sabzibhaji8045 the era of super teams is over. Were in the time of dynamic duos now. For many years in Vegas there has been 4 select teams each season that were predicted to win the ring. 4 teams and all other teams had little to no chance. This year that number has raised to 20 teams. The NBA is unpredictible once again, we have no Idea who will even make it to the finals. Last 5 years it was a given. Now its a mystery agaim

      To be honest, All I heard about Bird was that he was a trashtalker who backs it up, But I never expected him to be a different man on stage. Such a great speaker

    • @mikes3827
      @mikes3827 3 роки тому +12

      @@julius8386 Yep he is. But because of how Larry's roots never left him, he was about as brutally honest an athlete as there ever was. Straight Shooter (as Magic called him) and GREAT shooter, who is among only a handful of the greatest shooters in NBA history. I'm a Celtics fan, but if ever I get a chance to see Magic and Larry together (at a talk show, interview, etc.), it's must-see viewing for me. Their improbable story makes them THE #1 sports rivalry ever, IMO.

      +George Daugherty IMO, there wasn't a better rivalry in the history of sports. Russell-Chamberlain was probably the closest, but Russell totally dominated Chamberlain when it came to playoff & championships, so that rules that one out. Plus the fact that Larry and Magic saved the NBA and both played for the 2 most storied franchises helped cement that legacy.

    If you grew up in this era as a kid whether you were a Lakers fan or not, you ALWAYS turned on the TV to watch if Magic was on the floor. The man was an amazing basketball player. Sure there have been better scorers, better assist guys (not many), better defenders. But NOT ONE of them were all of those things wrapped up into one player who could play any position, play against any other player, and have a great amount of success in one fashion or another. Not to mention Magic was a natural leader and one hell of a showman. Magic always had a saying that went like "The first 3 quarters are yours to do as you wish, but, come the 4th quarter it's winning time"....and that summed up everything he was about. SHOWTIME 4 LIFE!

    You can tell that, in absolutely every facet, he developed himself as a person while playing basketball. Obviously his charisma and personality are huge reflections of his parents...but I'm always blown away at how well he speaks and delivers his thoughts. That he was forward thinking enough to truly develop his business sense -- and sought out the mentorship & put in the work, is ultra impressive. There'd have been nothing wrong with him just being the best basketball player he could & not delve into anything else, but he clearly & genuinely learned. I'm so glad he's still with us and doing well.
