It has been widely accredited to Ervin "Magic" Johnson and Larry Bird for creating a rivalry that saved the game of basketball. Before these two players, people were losing interest in the game. Stop being jealous and look for the obvious positives.
+George Daugherty IMO, there wasn't a better rivalry in the history of sports. Russell-Chamberlain was probably the closest, but Russell totally dominated Chamberlain when it came to playoff & championships, so that rules that one out. Plus the fact that Larry and Magic saved the NBA and both played for the 2 most storied franchises helped cement that legacy.
Russell totaly dominated Wilt ...serious ? If Wilt would have been on the celtics he would have 11 rings ...bball is a team sports and sadly Wilt was on lesser teams than Bill ....look at the stats they speak volumes
@dh3758 ...Julius Erving revitalized the NBA. Magic and Larry saved the NBA and kept the latter from going under. The stage was set when Michael Jordan entered the league.
If you grew up in this era as a kid whether you were a Lakers fan or not, you ALWAYS turned on the TV to watch if Magic was on the floor. The man was an amazing basketball player. Sure there have been better scorers, better assist guys (not many), better defenders. But NOT ONE of them were all of those things wrapped up into one player who could play any position, play against any other player, and have a great amount of success in one fashion or another. Not to mention Magic was a natural leader and one hell of a showman. Magic always had a saying that went like "The first 3 quarters are yours to do as you wish, but, come the 4th quarter it's winning time"....and that summed up everything he was about. SHOWTIME 4 LIFE!
You can tell that, in absolutely every facet, he developed himself as a person while playing basketball. Obviously his charisma and personality are huge reflections of his parents...but I'm always blown away at how well he speaks and delivers his thoughts. That he was forward thinking enough to truly develop his business sense -- and sought out the mentorship & put in the work, is ultra impressive. There'd have been nothing wrong with him just being the best basketball player he could & not delve into anything else, but he clearly & genuinely learned. I'm so glad he's still with us and doing well.
Non-stop expressions of gratitude, appreciation, hard work, respect for teachers, parents, family, coaches, mentors, teammates, opponents, more hard work, humility, study, persistence, accepting challenges of all kinds, and some more hard work. Those were the days.

Best era of basketball.Diehard Celtics fan but nothing respect for #32
Right on!
It has been widely accredited to Ervin "Magic" Johnson and Larry Bird for creating a rivalry that saved the game of basketball. Before these two players, people were losing interest in the game. Stop being jealous and look for the obvious positives.
Bonita Boggan Unfortunately, there may never be quite such an iconic rivalry in all of sports, much less basketball, ever again.
Well, actually Dr J began the process of rejuvenation in the NBA,along with David Thompson,George Gervin, and the like.
Magic , the greatest point guard ever, and arguably the most versatile player EVER in nba history! LEGEND!
Original 6 foot 8 inches point guard
EVERY clip of both Magic and Bird should be required viewing for ALL of today's players......
Damn in this video 2002 looks like the eighties
Silvatari lmao those were my thoughts
Hush 😂 i was 18 then lol cell phones werent even real popular yet lol. 2004 is when they really took off.
Just goes to show ya how far we’ve come in a short period of time.
Lol, it's true. Those cameras are suspect
Most stuff from the early 2000s looks like that. Hell even 2010, 11 you can tell looks different from now.
Boss Key welp!!!! His name is lebron James
His only equal is Lebron, and a dare say ......Lebron might be better.
Hi from Japan. I’m 62 now. The are still making my life happy! Thank you! Magic ,Jabbar and Worthy etc etc etc WOW!!!

Larry and Earvin The Two Wonderful man of Basketball❤
Yes indeed!!!!🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀
LUV Magic and Larry. Classic Rivalry. GREATEST IN SPORTS’ HISTORY!
How can anyone not love Magic Johnson? After all his succes he is still a. Humble and authentic human being.
I think I could never get tired of watching Magic and Larry simultaneously respecting and stinging each other.
Is this the greatest HOF speech ever?? Amazing speech from one of the greatest.
Two amazing legends. So much mutual respect for each other. Beautiful sight.
Non-stop expressions of gratitude, appreciation, hard work, respect for teachers, parents, family, coaches, mentors, teammates, opponents, more hard work, humility, study, persistence, accepting challenges of all kinds, and some more hard work. Those were the days.
I can watch Magic and Bird talk about each other for hours
I grew up with MJ,Pip,Hakeem,Barkley n Ewing but in my heart, I know Magic n Bird will always be the greatest match up in basketball history. Two Legends beyond words. Thank you for the upload
