Great breakdown of the Sig MPX! It’s a solid choice for a PCC, but the price and suppressor issues do make you think twice. Between the MPX and MP5, it’s a tough call. Anyone else experience the same challenges with suppressing the MPX?
I had one from 7-8 years ago. Something in the bolt broke with less than 1000 rounds. Sig turned it around in less than a week but I sold it right after.
It’s hard to beat for competition or tactical use. But for the price, I’d love to hear how it compares to other PCC options like the CZ Scorpion or the Ruger PC Carbine.
My Gen 2 MPX K is my favorite gun to shoot suppressed. Im running an OCL Lithium on a Rearden Atlas, and have had zero issues with accuracy or overgassing. The pnly drawback of the platform is how dirty it gets after a few hundred rounds: it absolutely needs regular lube if you’re putting a ton of rounds through it or you will get FTE/FTF malfunctions once the internals get caked in carbon.
Everyone complaining about Micah and Charlie but I always liked GT’s more informative and series style of videos. A super safety would be awesome in this rig. Thanks for sharing.
I've had my Gen 2 8" for years and it has never had any issues. Runs like a champ. I don't shoot it all that often because it blows through ammo like a fat kid at a buffet and it gets very expensive very quickly.
I just picked up a Ronin Arms Integrally suppressed MPX and it is the most fun and quiet gun I have (next to subsonic 22lr). All I shoot is standard 115 grain ammo and it is unbelievably quiet because @roninarms conversion/ported barrel makes it all Subsonic ! Very Accurate and the gen 3 trigger is absolutely magical. Thanks for your content. Glad to hear harsh criticism and honest reviews. The Ronin Arms MPX-SD is worth every penny!
Thank you for making this video. I learned several things that I did not know. I have owned an MPX SBR since October of 2016. I don’t know why, but it is one of my most treasured guns despite being one of my least used. My MPX is a Gen 2 with the 8” barrel. I am encouraged by the fact that you were able to get an 8” barrel from Sig. Sig has said that they aren’t going to make anymore 8” barreled MPXs, so I had some concern that if something happened to mine whether or not I would be able to get a new barrel for it. I am at a loss to understand why Sig gave up the 8” barrel gun and created the MPX Copperhead, which to me is nothing but a gimmick gun. It serves no purpose that can’t be better filled with the MPX-K or a good pistol, depending on what you need the gun to do. To me it is a stupid gun. The 13.5x1mm left-handed thread pitch is a European thing. If you can get your hands on a German H&K MP5 and you remove the three-lug adapter I am pretty sure you will find that it has a 13.5x1mm left-handed thread pitch. The new versions of the MPX do have the ½”x28 right-handed thread pitch. You mentioned the trigger. My Gen 2 had a horrible trigger. It felt like a 12 lbs New York Glock Trigger. I am currently running a TriggerTech drop-in Adaptable 3.5 to 6 lbs flat face trigger and it is awesome. Concerning the charging handle, I went with the Geissele Super charging handle. You definitely need to clean the piston. If you shoot more than about 100 rds with it suppressed it is going to fail and getting the piston out to clean it is a real pain. You are correct about it not being a good gun to run suppressed. I occasionally run mine suppressed and it gets really dirty quickly. Furthermore, you are definitely going to have a point of impact shift in a different direction every time you put the suppressor on with a three-lug mount. Again, thank you for the video. It was extremely informative.
Become a Chad, get your own MPX today. In all seriousness its my favorite gun I own, here is my build. 8" barrel, Timmney flat face trigger, Trijicon MRO, NLA ambi charging handle, Surefire light with the pad and a SB Tactical telescoping brace.
I bought the second Gen. it failed. The tip of the firing pin broke off at the range. It took FOREVER for SIG to get me the replacement parts. My PSA ARV has performed flawlessly with no breakdowns.
Have an MPX, my only complaint is that when you put on the shorter barrels, it doesn't play well with suppressors. Groups turn into shotgun patterns with certain cans. Doesn't seem to be an issue wit the 8" barrel though.
@@dennylemieux5910 If you buy the barrels without the adjustable gas block, they won't cycle typical subsonic loads. The gas port is too small. Couldn't cycle loads the same length factory barrel could. He said he did that so that it wouldn't damage the gun with hot ammo. The text that explained port size that was burrier on the product page at the time of my purchase. It didn't explicitly say it wouldn't work with subs, it just listed the port sizes. Seriously, who is buying a barrel with tri-lug and 1/2-28 thread that wouldn't want to run subs? All that was needed to fix this was to enlarge the gas port. He wanted to charge me $60 (on top of the $500 already paid for the barrel - 2 days after the purchase) to do that. I said it should be done for free since it's absurd this wasn't highlighted. He said the customer is just supposed to know the implication of the various port sizes. He refused to fix it without charging $60 and wouldn't take the barrel a return. I just mailed the barrel back to him and had my CC company reverse the charge. He put all of the gas port info at the beginning of the page afterwards (anyone with a brain would updated further with big red text that says "this barrel won't work with subsonic loads"). He isn't very bright business-wise and provides dog shit customer service if something is wrong. So, roll the dice and pray that your barrel works perfectly if you order one without the adjustable gas block.
My buddy has both sp5 and mpx. I prefer the mpx because of the trigger and AR style controls. Both are great fun and never had an issue with either. Not even suppressed.
yeah i have no idea why they mostly discontinued the 8" models, stupid decision on their part. i'm assuming of the SBR/pistol variants it probably sold the least but still! at least the barrel and handguard are super easy to change out and plenty of aftermarket options available for both.
Damn, there’s a lot of hate for Sig in these comments. I think they make some good stuff. I own a P238 SAS, an M11-A1, and a P210 Target, and they’re all really nice guns that function well.
Their new polymer pistols have had countless safety issues and sig repetitively lies and say that its not true, this does not denounce the fact that they have made good guns in the past
@@slick4415 Ahh, ok that explains the critical opinions. I don’t really follow gun news so I wasn’t aware. Plus my Sig guns aren’t particularly new offerings and are also all-metal as well, so I haven’t had any experience with both their latest products or the polymer stuff.
@@jimmylarge1148 I originally wanted the standard version, but the price put me off. I hesitated, and then they went and discontinued it. Got the Target model so I could at least own one. It’s really nice though, so no regrets.
13k rounds on my gen 2 almost entirely running an omega 9k. I have both sig 4 and 8 in barrels. Everything works. I broke a firing pin around 2300 rounds. Sig sent me an upgraded bcg and firing pin. 9k rounds later and maybe 2 ftf later I couldn’t be happier.
No, friends don’t let friend be a r and d for a gun company. I bought one because they said they were going to make a 40 and 357 sig conversion. Vaporware. They never made them. After being a beta tester gen 1 they finally sent me a gen 2 upper which made all my gen 1 mags useless. Read they changed the bolt carrier because they were breaking. They know they are breaking but won’t send a replacement till it breaks. So mine sits in the very back of the safe.
Put over 50k rounds on my 8yo Gen 2 just now the barrel wore out... Guess what I'm getting to replace it? Another MPX. Just replaced the trigger w single stage Timney a few years in was perfect gun. Never suppressed mine...
I have had my gen 2 for 8 years. Originally a carbine, I had the barrel cut to 6.5 inches and threaded in the proper direction. No issues running a Dead Air Wolfman, and the Geissele trigger and Radian Raptor result in a great, flat shooting system. Any lack of accuracy I attribute to myself.
My mpx was horrible. Literally the worst gun I’ve ever owned. It was also one of the first “expensive” gun purchases I ever made. Probably 6 years ago maybe more it was a gen 1.5 supposedly. Sold it and bought a mp5 I now have 4 mp5s zero mpx. I did all the research was sold on it and sold on the caliber changes that Sig never followed through with. And the gun just didn’t run. I sent it to Sig multiple times with no success. Basically to make them reliable you have to buy a whole bunch of parts from ILWT especially if your gonna run a suppressor. Spend almost the cost of the gun again. I wasn’t happy. The mcx however is a gem the mpx save your Pennies.

I dont think you can buy anything Sig after seeing the interview tfbtv did with the ceo. When asked what he thought of people saying that they test their new products on buyers, he effectively said that's a risk they should take when buying "operator level" products. That being said, i do want a p226 elite. Or the p210. But that's it
I purchased my MPX new and it came with a broken timney trigger. Gun dry fired fine, but the trigger would randomly lock and not unlock unless you took out the whole cassette. Called sig about it, told them the issue, and was informed I would have to pay for a warranty since I rockset my ASR mount on it. Fixed it and sold it. Never buying sig products again.
This review is spot on. I have a gen 3 mpx k with the same stock. Out of the box the gun is great and accuracy was not a problem. Added a tri lug adapter and a can and accuracy is out the window. 25 yards I’ll hold a 4-6 inch group. I really want it to work suppressed but don’t want to dump money into it without a for sure solution. This is my second my frustrating gun behind my P320 x carry legion that won’t cycle with a suppressor unless you buy the sig suppressor. Now a days theirs much lighter suppressors that probably work with it.
Numerous issues with MPXk factory Tim trigger model. Started with light primer strikes followed by Firing pin failure. Fit and finish is garbage. Lower receiver was replaced by Sig after initial purchase. The finish doesn’t hold up after minimal handling at range benches and travel. Currently in a shipping box and headed back to Sig for failure to fire. Not to mention accuracy Is horrendous compared to my scorpion k and APC9k. Buy something else’s if you’re looking. Thrill mags are definitely better than the lancers but the whole system sucks compared to equally priced 9mm PCCs.
I fell in love with the gen 1 mpx. It was not only 9mm, but could easily be converted to .40 and .357sig. about a month after the release my dreams were dashed after I got a response on when the .357 conversion parts would be in stock: they weren't going to be. It became nothing more than an overpriced AR9 in my eyes. I literally built my own that's slightly larger and about the same length. A few months of playing with it and I turned it into a rattler clone using a conversion kit. I have no regrets. I'll pick a rattler over a mpx all day.
Good to see some PCC stuff again. I think they’re fun. I have a form 1 can for my scorpion I made a while back. And I reload. It’s a blast with the 147gr. As low as 900 fps no problem
Garand Thumb raised his boys with flair, Teaching guns and UA-cam care. But Micah and Charlie, chasing fame, Left Dad behind in the Guntuber game. So now John’s his new "Garand Baby," Dad just laughs-“This one’s not so crazy!”
With Sig's QC issues, giving tech to our adversaries, and outsourcing part manufacturing to the third world, I can't imagine supporting this company. And I say this with a half dozen sig products in my house.
Got rid of it. Had one of the first ones and had feeding issues from their overpriced mags. Learned my lesson to never buy anything first version from Sig. And that is for multiple Sig platforms owned. No more sig for me or others that I know.
I bought an early gen 2 one. Still had too many quirks and issues. Still way overgassed. Lots of nice PCC options out there now that won't gas you out and cost similar or less. And sig has done like 5 different silent revisions of the gen2, so replacement parts are annoying to find. Definitely would not recommend.
This is a nice return to form. Gear and weapons being tested with thousands of rounds, practical reviews, ect. Less slapstick comedy. This channel was on its way to becoming demolition ranch or Kentucky Ballistics. I get it though, ammo prices are finally normalizing.
I wish Sig sold the MPX with an 8" barrel from the factory. I have been shooting my MPX-K in PCC division for several years. I prefer the 8" barrel for more dwell time using light competition loads and more hand space on the rail. Great video!

Guys, stop spreading rumors like little girls. Mr. Thumb said himself that Charles and him are alright. Charles is managing the warehouse in WA. That makes it difficult for them to make videos together when thumb is in Idaho.

Great breakdown of the Sig MPX! It’s a solid choice for a PCC, but the price and suppressor issues do make you think twice. Between the MPX and MP5, it’s a tough call. Anyone else experience the same challenges with suppressing the MPX?
Wait for PSA to make the MPX we have at home. Buy that. Just as good bro.
Sig will actually stand by their alleged principles and ship to me unlike PSA, and it won’t break in 6 months.

@@intergalacticchicano something screams irony to me, I’ve never had bad luck with PSA stuff. Had it last a very long time too.
It's more than twice the value of a Scorpion, makes the Scorpion look like a rough shooting, cheap plastic gun, cuz it is.
I would not put either the scorpion or pc carbine as direct competition with the MPX.
Yes.
And, I’m glad Charlie and Micah are doing well in their new homes. 😊
Ahh the modern day MP-5 and I do say it’s sick as hell !
Actually Marines can count. Been one for 249 years.
Great vid, GT. I ❤ the t-shirt @ 2:42! 😁🤣

I've had my Gen 2 8" for years and it has never had any issues. Runs like a champ. I don't shoot it all that often because it blows through ammo like a fat kid at a buffet and it gets very expensive very quickly.
The real question is: will it pay my rent?
No. No it will not 😂
Well, not legally that is.
Actually, it will if you use it in the right context.

John is slapping the trigger slowing him down. Mikes last bill drill was perfect
I bought the second Gen. it failed. The tip of the firing pin broke off at the range. It took FOREVER for SIG to get me the replacement parts.
My PSA ARV has performed flawlessly with no breakdowns.
Shot one a couple years ago, it has incredibly light recoil, can just stack them in one ragged hole.
Have an MPX, my only complaint is that when you put on the shorter barrels, it doesn't play well with suppressors. Groups turn into shotgun patterns with certain cans. Doesn't seem to be an issue wit the 8" barrel though.
I’ve heard the solution is a barrel from In Lead We Trust. Lots of feedback on their site of improved accuracy.
@Yoda052 Tried that, didn't help. And I will never deal with that guy again.

I wish they still sold the OG MPX like whats in this video. Now all they make in pistol form is the Copperhead and MPX-K
They also have the copperhead k its a blast to shoot i love it id say its kinda in-between the copperhead and mpx k
They still sell the 8” but it’s LEO model with mlok.
yeah i have no idea why they mostly discontinued the 8" models, stupid decision on their part. i'm assuming of the SBR/pistol variants it probably sold the least but still! at least the barrel and handguard are super easy to change out and plenty of aftermarket options available for both.

Sig has been teasing a 10mm version for several years. But, then again, they also said they were going to make conversions for 357 Sig & 40 S&W.
Damn, there’s a lot of hate for Sig in these comments. I think they make some good stuff. I own a P238 SAS, an M11-A1, and a P210 Target, and they’re all really nice guns that function well.

Glad to see you producing videos! 🎉
Put over 50k rounds on my 8yo Gen 2 just now the barrel wore out... Guess what I'm getting to replace it? Another MPX. Just replaced the trigger w single stage Timney a few years in was perfect gun. Never suppressed mine...
It’s an sig, modern Sig can’t be trusted.
Not really true anymore.
If anything, modern Sig is much more trustworthy nowadays than 2014 Sig.
They have even demonstrated that on this channel.
Sig should spend less on marketing and more on QC. What was a respected brand is now a joke.

But that's it
7:06 Not a dead primer. You can see that the bolt is not fully seated. Looks like the hammer fully seats it but obviously it leads to a misfire.

At that price point? Compared to other PCC’s like the Scorpion, Stribog, PSA AR-V, S&W Response, Ruger PC Carbine, etc. the answer is absolutely not.
PSA AR9
Draco 9s 👌
That dead primer moment unlocked some deep emotions in John.
I'll pick a rattler over a mpx all day.
i think ill buy the mpx just for coolness factor alone. Gun looks sick, functions like a beast. and easily gives 500 aura...
Good to see some PCC stuff again. I think they’re fun. I have a form 1 can for my scorpion I made a while back. And I reload. It’s a blast with the 147gr. As low as 900 fps no problem
