I have somewhere between 12k and 15k rounds between 2 MPX from competition. Clean the piston every 1k, clean the bolt carrier completely every 500. Run it wet with low viscosity lube. I have both a Gen 2 MPX with an 8" ILWT barrel as well as a SP5. I compete in USPSA and PCSL with both. I also had a Gen 1 MPX. If you are going to get a MPX get a Gen 2/3. Period. Even my Gen 2 started having some reliability issues starting at around 10K rounds. Ejection issues and a lot of death jams (doublefeeds that are tightly wedged together). Yes, always new springs in the mags and ILWT recoil springs. I do clean the piston every 3K rounds or so. With my SP5 I use a Leesporting lower that lets me use AR controls with a Giessele trigger. Very. very nice. The SP5 has not had a single failure of any kind. Ever. Never. The MPX is infinitely more consistent to reload quickly on the clock where a second or two makes a huge difference. It does recoil lighter and quicker to me, but the SP5 is no slouch. Last round holdopen doesn't matter to me. I have marked mags downloaded to 25 so I can do closed bolt reloads. While to me the MPX is a riot to shoot out on the range, and is probably faster on a single stage if it runs, the absolute unwavering reliability of the SP5 makes it the one I would use for any major match and is the one that sits next to me here by my desk loaded with G9s for home applications. YMMV.

I was at the range in Colorado today in 20 degree temps. Shooting with 3 other shooters all of us running PCCs. An Mp5, a CMMG Banshee, and two 9mm MPX PCCs. Not only did the MPX continuously have failures, but so did the Sig pistols on the range. MP5 and banshee and Glocks… zero failures.
They were shooting S&B, Winchester, and Blazer brass in 115, 124, 140, and 147 grain. I think these guys were using aftermarket parts in their MPXs, but I was still shocked that all the Sig pistols and these PCCs had so many problems. All I shoot is standard 115 grain ammo and it is unbelievably quiet because @roninarms conversion/ported barrel makes it all Subsonic ! Very Accurate and the gen 3 trigger is absolutely magical.

Thank you for making this video. I learned several things that I did not know. I have owned an MPX SBR since October of 2016. I don’t know why, but it is one of my most treasured guns despite being one of my least used. My MPX is a Gen 2 with the 8” barrel. I am encouraged by the fact that you were able to get an 8” barrel from Sig. Sig has said that they aren’t going to make anymore 8” barreled MPXs, so I had some concern that if something happened to mine whether or not I would be able to get a new barrel for it. I am at a loss to understand why Sig gave up the 8” barrel gun and created the MPX Copperhead, which to me is nothing but a gimmick gun. It serves no purpose that can’t be better filled with the MPX-K or a good pistol, depending on what you need the gun to do. To me it is a stupid gun.
The 13.5x1mm left-handed thread pitch is a European thing. If you can get your hands on a German H&K MP5 and you remove the three-lug adapter I am pretty sure you will find that it has a 13.5x1mm left-handed thread pitch. The new versions of the MPX do have the ½”x28 right-handed thread pitch.
You mentioned the trigger. My Gen 2 had a horrible trigger. It felt like a 12 lbs New York Glock Trigger. I am currently running a TriggerTech drop-in Adaptable 3.5 to 6 lbs flat face trigger and it is awesome.
Concerning the charging handle, I went with the Geissele Super charging handle.
You definitely need to clean the piston. If you shoot more than about 100 rds with it suppressed it is going to fail and getting the piston out to clean it is a real pain. You are correct about it not being a good gun to run suppressed. I occasionally run mine suppressed and it gets really dirty quickly. Furthermore, you are definitely going to have a point of impact shift in a different direction every time you put the suppressor on with a three-lug mount.
Again, thank you for the video. It was extremely informative.

Couldn't cycle loads the same length factory barrel could. He said he did that so that it wouldn't damage the gun with hot ammo. The text that explained port size that was burrier on the product page at the time of my purchase. It didn't explicitly say it wouldn't work with subs, it just listed the port sizes. Seriously, who is buying a barrel with tri-lug and 1/2-28 thread that wouldn't want to run subs? All that was needed to fix this was to enlarge the gas port. He wanted to charge me $60 (on top of the $500 already paid for the barrel - 2 days after the purchase) to do that. I said it should be done for free since it's absurd this wasn't highlighted. He said the customer is just supposed to know the implication of the various port sizes. He refused to fix it without charging $60 and wouldn't take the barrel a return. I just mailed the barrel back to him and had my CC company reverse the charge. He put all of the gas port info at the beginning of the page afterwards (anyone with a brain would updated further with big red text that says "this barrel won't work with subsonic loads"). He isn't very bright business-wise and provides dog shit customer service if something is wrong. So, roll the dice and pray that your barrel works perfectly if you order one without the adjustable gas block.

I sent it to Sig multiple times with no success. Basically to make them reliable you have to buy a whole bunch of parts from ILWT especially if your gonna run a suppressor. Spend almost the cost of the gun again. I wasn’t happy. The mcx however is a gem the mpx save your Pennies.
