despite a lot of people ranting about how they hate this system, i love it. Makes it harder to get progression(and risky), and better gear feels a lot more special. I will play games that include this type of progression going forward. (ArcheAge, BDO so far)
kupacmac I had the same mentality... until I realized how much more of a headache it was trying to find items on the marketplace that you actually want.
@Insidious LoL True it is hard to get certain items, but they usually get posted eventually. It's just a matter of figuring out how much to put down on the pre-order.

I don't see why so many people complain about the system. Its like the best enhancing system ive seen in quite a while. Insteat of just having a 2%chance for your last upgrade you can farm up for it systematicly and make money out of the process. Its a so damn good system. Everything else would either be a guarantee which would be ways too casual. A cash experience which would be complete trash. Or a pure rng thing with 2% or so for the last upgrades.
It's important to note that there are situations where you SHOULD force an enhancement such fishing rods going to +8, +9, and +10. Any failure can, and usually does, drop it down a level. Also, know that a force does not reduce your fail stacks. If you has +30 stacks, you will still have +30 after the force.

This fucking game! failed duo with 25+ fail-stacks 7 times, got it on the 8 and quit the game out of frustration. now 8 months later i reinstalled the game and came back to try for tri ...Boom! it works the first time. you should add afk-stacks, they're clearly a lot more effective
Tons of comments here saying "pay to win". Please tell me one item you can get that makes your stats better than the same class. There is not one item in game that RNG wouldn't chew up. XP boost? Forest or Desert costume? Value pack? Man I didn't think a tax break or inventory space could hit so hard..... *rolls eyes* Go play Lineage 2... now that is pay to win. I wish there was a tissue event for all the tears...

You can get memory fragments by combining 5 Ancient Relic Shards, 5 Forbidden Books, or 5 Scrolls Written in Ancient Language. They turn in to boss scrolls which you can fight for fragments.
My friend, this is an absolutely awesome video! I haven't even finished watching it all, yet, but I couldn't help but feel great watching and learning this stuff so easily. The way you explain it makes it feel so easy to understand. The most inspiring part of this for me is that very, very few people can accomplish this when it comes to these BDO concepts. Seriously, I don't know a single player, including well known BDO UA-camrs (some who quit), who can explain this concept so clearly. You're also helping me understand that some of the “frustrating” parts of this game were actually designed to be at least “little blessings” in disguise. Of course, it would've been easier if they're full blessings, but I'll take little blessings to help me not get frustrated, but actually be optimistic. Thank you. I'm really grateful to you. =)
Really nice guide even for 2019, except you were reading the chart wrong, in the first collumn you need to look at the number you are trying to get. So If your weapon si +14, you look at the 15th collumn. (You probably know it by now, but just for new players watching)
Nothing guide-worthy that I've found so far. There's one excavation node we need to research but overall there will probably not be enough for a video.

Love the guide, explained pretty much everything I wanted to know. I have 2 questions though: 1. Instead of switching characters, could it be useful to buy an appropriate 'Blacksmith's Secret Book' and seal the failstacks, since you can pretty much treat those as 'a different character with failstacks' at that point? Or would that be a waste of money, and it's more efficient to just make a couple of low level characters and drop them at my storage box? 2. It looks to me like the 'failstack chart' says the first column to be "Enchant level you are going to". So, since you were upgrading your +12 helmet, and your planning on going to +13, doesnt that mean you look at the +13 line, with the most beneficial failstack count being 20, instead of your mentioned 18? Anyway, thanks for the guide, helped me a lot!

Done my Liverto from Duo to TRI with 25 Failstacks ^^ And build up 49 Failstacks with my 14 Grunil Helmet xD Playing this game since 14 days. level 58 with 62 % ^^ Kinda used 2 Grinding due to diablo, but that whole failstack thing was confusing me so hard :D And yes I DID wasted those 49 FS on my grunil xD
So to upgrade my Liverto from +8 to +9, I should start around 11 fail stacks ? Or since it's expensive to repair ? And just keep the -3 below the max from there ? And really good guide! Helped a lot :) nice voice and not rushing through it :D!
Even though this is a pretty old video, I am happy to have found it. I have been playing BDO for over a year now (leasurely, not fanatically upgrading) and I found failstacking far too complicated to do serious enhancing. Now I finally begin to understand it!
Upgrading your gear in this game is an absolute nightmare and it is the main reason this game isn't as successful as it could be. An absolute insane design choice in the making of the game.
I played the game for 2 weeks when I made 59 failstacks at +13 yuria, and made +14 with it, later I made PRI with 8 conc. stones... currently saving for TRI liverto, ain't fkin with that luck :P
I'd say using that failstack image as a reference to make a +15 is a pain in the ass for cheap weapons, unless you're upgrading a kzarka or something you don't need that many failstacks for it. I made my liverto to +14 using a maximum of 13 failstacks (6 being the minimum I used for +9) and then used 19 for pri and 21 for duo. Started trying on 15 fs for both pri and duo but they succeed at those fs. FS are expensive so I'd say it's worth risking the repairs for anything that is not boss gear.
No, it's the other way around.. those have a lower chance of success and are expensive to repair therefore it makes sense to try and get closer to the fs cap so you don't fail/break them that much.
I hate enhancing soooo much my liverto is on 24 :c and its annoying because I cant farm. Sometimes I feel like to just stop playing because I am also poor
Eri you get rich by grinding though... those items mobs drop.. you should be going to all the npcs to collect you money.... that on top of items that drop you should gain.... plus your peons.. have the gather materilas and sell them.... attached nodes to all the major cities for easy transportation.....its a steady grind.....
Hey Morrolan Great video man~! Just have a question for ya, would you recommend using Grunil gears to build failstacks? or the cheap ones you can purchase from vendor? Thanks.
I personally use Grunil and sell it when I'm done, but this is partially because I have a grunil workshop that runs 24/7. Most players prefer reblath as it requires less upkeep.
Thank you for this guide, it helps so much. I use the armor I get from drops, or my workers make to repair durability instead of selling it on the AH. I'll be waiting for part two.
So just a question if I get it right. Every time I fail enchanting I will get +1 failstack right. And with each failstack my chance to enchant that item increases right?
My biggest thing here LOOK UP GEAR LOADOUTS FOR YOUR CLASS, at least you'll have relevant gear to keep building as you progress from lvl 1 to 56, I spent my stones on low tier items, yes you get more stones, but looking and what I enhanced and what I coulda had to begin with is a little annoying.

What would you consider to be easier to do? Go through this enhancement process to get the weapon you want at a high level Grind for Silver and purchase it directly from the MP for many millions
for your +12 helm isn't the max fail stacks 20 instead of 18? The chart says the enchant you're going to, not the one you currently have. You're trying to get to +13....
I havent really started playing the game but watched a few tutorial now. But meanwhile, a question appeared: What is the actual lategame? Is it only to upgrade your stuff and make more money or is there also something like REALLY hard content you need the upgraded stuff for?

so much to learn and explore. im currently leve 61, using event exp boost 200% plus 100% bill i get 0.006 to 0.008 exp every 3mins. a long way to go. im just grinding mobs, horse, cooking beer, connecting node and time to time doing some quest. soon, il be doing enhancements, boat trading and more. i watch this video preparing me when im in to enhaning. amazing. thank you for the information. oh, im not using elixer and buffs, need to learn that part also. amazing
Are you using krea to just build uo fail stacks? Or are you actually like trying to upgrade to krea? Im tryn upgrade my rosar staff, but its hard to recover durability since their quite rare and expensive to you do the same thing in this situation?
In this guide, it looks like you were just upgrading a single piece of gear (shield), but what about an entire armor set? Should I work on each piece one by one until they get to +15 or so, or should I build them up evenly?
reblath is useful if you don't have anything to failstack on. I like to failstack on grunil & sell it when I'm done, but that requires a lot more work.
Hi, Morrolan, I just found your gear Enhancing guide useful. I am a beginner of black desert. As beginner, I don't have enough black stones for armors. I've acquired 1 set of purple equipment with about 140 black stones. Do I do all 4 pieces leveling up together or focus on 1 piece first? How many stacker characters should I create for enhancing equipment (to be safe side)? Thanks. You've been EPIC !!
You want to level all your armor pretty equally. Going from +5 to +6 gives the same amount of DP as going from +14 to +15 so just do the easy enhancements first. As for alt characters, you should have the absolute maximum number of characters that you are willing to buy. Alts are very useful in this game for more reasons than just enhancing, for example, they also have their own energy pools you can spend on various things.
Great video, but why didn't you give some advice on HOW to build failstacks efficiently ? This seems like the most valuable information you could have given to new/returning players ! For example, I lost millions of silver trying to upgrade my gear by building failstacks directly on my Grunil pieces... Knowing that this wasn't the best method would have saved me many days of farming back silver...
As the video says, just build stacks up to the force cost on lower levels. On higher levels there's really not much to say. Just keep clicking the button until you get to the number of failstacks you want. I was going to add the downgrading method in Part 3, and might do that if I get some time, but this method is very common knowledge which you can ask anyone in game if you don't already know.
Morrolan TV What I meant was that the most efficient way (in my opinion) to build failstacks (10 to 17ish) is to do so on Reblath Shoes/Gloves which you can repare for 12.9k a piece. When you get to 15-17fs you can start your +15 and PRI attempt until 25-30 stacks for DUO and 40 for TRI I really don't think that building stacks directly on your gear is the best method. For people who have a Grunil workshop going on, sure ! But for those who just reached 50-55 with their first character, paying 200k for each repair on Grunil is a LOT... That's what I did, and I lost a lot more money than my friends and guildmates who did the Reblath method.
I didn't put this in the video because I don't agree with it. Reblath is a method that you use to fill gaps between failstack thresholds for which you don't have any actual enhancements, in order to build stacks for boss upgrades or accessories. A new player should absolutely not be using reblath to enhance Grunil, especially in the current economy when 1 blackstone costs as much or more as a piece of Grunil itself.
Morrolan TV In this case how would you build failstacks when you're already full PRI ? I've been using the Reblath method since my gear was +14. And before that I built my stacks directly on my Grunil pieces and felt like I lost much more money than my guildmates who did the Reblath method since the beginning :/
Full PRI isn't what I'd consider a new player, so it seems like we might be talking about two different things. Once you get to the point where you need to fill failstack gaps, reblath is fine. I don't believe the video suggests that people should be attempting DUO and higher without any failstacks.

Thanks for the info I was so lost on how to upgrade I actually like this system a little more forgiving than in other games where a fail means you lose the item loving this game more everyday and I only been playing like 3 weeks.
only problem I have with the system which isnt the best not the worst is the tedium of making failstacks, its just meaningless busy work. Ok regressing on failure tri/tet/pen is also a terrible design choice.
I agree. I don't care how RNG based it is if everyone else has to deal with it but all this character switching and failstacking is turning me off from gearing up really quickly.
Yeah the best option is to save up/grind for silver at this point and just buy the damn upgraded weapons/Armor that cost up to 200-300 mil on the market board. It sucks for us power levelers b/c we need more AP to deal with level 52+ mobs. I upgraded my base weapon to +15, but getting it to Pri is just not worth it
Rally A better way? Anything that's not RNG. Why not do it the way you build your boat? You gather material, put it in storage, let a worker work on it, and it upgrades. Maybe but a RNG on like some special stats during the upgrade based something your worker has but THIS is one of the worst things ever.
I want to know what the deal is with quality of items (green, blue, gold, ect) do you start from green work your way up and as you get to +15 the quality goes up?

No, it's the other way around.. those have a lower chance of success and are expensive to repair therefore it makes sense to try and get closer to the fs cap so you don't fail/break them that much.

Eri you get rich by grinding though... those items mobs drop.. you should be going to all the npcs to collect you money.... that on top of items that drop you should gain.... plus your peons.. have the gather materilas and sell them.... attached nodes to all the major cities for easy transportation.....its a steady grind.....

I personally use Grunil and sell it when I'm done, but this is partially because I have a grunil workshop that runs 24/7. Most players prefer reblath as it requires less upkeep.

So just a question if I get it right. Every time I fail enchanting I will get +1 failstack right. And with each failstack my chance to enchant that item increases right?
My biggest thing here LOOK UP GEAR LOADOUTS FOR YOUR CLASS, at least you'll have relevant gear to keep building as you progress from lvl 1 to 56, I spent my stones on low tier items, yes you get more stones, but looking and what I enhanced and what I coulda had to begin with is a little annoying.

for your +12 helm isn't the max fail stacks 20 instead of 18? The chart says the enchant you're going to, not the one you currently have. You're trying to get to +13....

I havent really started playing the game but watched a few tutorial now. But meanwhile, a question appeared: What is the actual lategame? Is it only to upgrade your stuff and make more money or is there also something like REALLY hard content you need the upgraded stuff for?

so much to learn and explore. im currently leve 61, using event exp boost 200% plus 100% bill i get 0.006 to 0.008 exp every 3mins. a long way to go. im just grinding mobs, horse, cooking beer, connecting node and time to time doing some quest. soon, il be doing enhancements, boat trading and more. i watch this video preparing me when im in to enhaning. amazing. thank you for the information. oh, im not using elixer and buffs, need to learn that part also. amazing
4 out of 5 times I get from +12 to +13 without any failstacks. It's really hard to build failstacks in this game.

easier and cheaper if you use cheap green rings from the market to build stacks up to 5.
the only problem with going past +1 is you begin to pass and fail too often, using the ACC for your +1.

Are you using krea to just build uo fail stacks? Or are you actually like trying to upgrade to krea? Im tryn upgrade my rosar staff, but its hard to recover durability since their quite rare and expensive to you do the same thing in this situation?

In this guide, it looks like you were just upgrading a single piece of gear (shield), but what about an entire armor set? Should I work on each piece one by one until they get to +15 or so, or should I build them up evenly?

reblath is useful if you don't have anything to failstack on. I like to failstack on grunil & sell it when I'm done, but that requires a lot more work.
Hi, Morrolan, I just found your gear Enhancing guide useful. I am a beginner of black desert. As beginner, I don't have enough black stones for armors. I've acquired 1 set of purple equipment with about 140 black stones. Do I do all 4 pieces leveling up together or focus on 1 piece first? How many stacker characters should I create for enhancing equipment (to be safe side)? Thanks. You've been EPIC !!
You want to level all your armor pretty equally. Going from +5 to +6 gives the same amount of DP as going from +14 to +15 so just do the easy enhancements first. As for alt characters, you should have the absolute maximum number of characters that you are willing to buy. Alts are very useful in this game for more reasons than just enhancing, for example, they also have their own energy pools you can spend on various things.
Great video, but why didn't you give some advice on HOW to build failstacks efficiently ?
This seems like the most valuable information you could have given to new/returning players !
For example, I lost millions of silver trying to upgrade my gear by building failstacks directly on my Grunil pieces...
Knowing that this wasn't the best method would have saved me many days of farming back silver...
As the video says, just build stacks up to the force cost on lower levels. On higher levels there's really not much to say. Just keep clicking the button until you get to the number of failstacks you want.
I was going to add the downgrading method in Part 3, and might do that if I get some time, but this method is very common knowledge which you can ask anyone in game if you don't already know.

What I meant was that the most efficient way (in my opinion) to build failstacks (10 to 17ish) is to do so on Reblath Shoes/Gloves which you can repare for 12.9k a piece.
When you get to 15-17fs you can start your +15 and PRI attempt until 25-30 stacks for DUO and 40 for TRI
I really don't think that building stacks directly on your gear is the best method.
For people who have a Grunil workshop going on, sure !
But for those who just reached 50-55 with their first character, paying 200k for each repair on Grunil is a LOT...
That's what I did, and I lost a lot more money than my friends and guildmates who did the Reblath method.
I didn't put this in the video because I don't agree with it. Reblath is a method that you use to fill gaps between failstack thresholds for which you don't have any actual enhancements, in order to build stacks for boss upgrades or accessories.
A new player should absolutely not be using reblath to enhance Grunil, especially in the current economy when 1 blackstone costs as much or more as a piece of Grunil itself.

In this case how would you build failstacks when you're already full PRI ?
I've been using the Reblath method since my gear was +14.
And before that I built my stacks directly on my Grunil pieces and felt like I lost much more money than my guildmates who did the Reblath method since the beginning :/
Full PRI isn't what I'd consider a new player, so it seems like we might be talking about two different things.
Once you get to the point where you need to fill failstack gaps, reblath is fine. I don't believe the video suggests that people should be attempting DUO and higher without any failstacks.

only problem I have with the system which isnt the best not the worst is the tedium of making failstacks, its just meaningless busy work. Ok regressing on failure tri/tet/pen is also a terrible design choice.
I agree. I don't care how RNG based it is if everyone else has to deal with it but all this character switching and failstacking is turning me off from gearing up really quickly.
Yeah the best option is to save up/grind for silver at this point and just buy the damn upgraded weapons/Armor that cost up to 200-300 mil on the market board. It sucks for us power levelers b/c we need more AP to deal with level 52+ mobs. I upgraded my base weapon to +15, but getting it to Pri is just not worth it
Rally A better way? Anything that's not RNG. Why not do it the way you build your boat? You gather material, put it in storage, let a worker work on it, and it upgrades. Maybe but a RNG on like some special stats during the upgrade based something your worker has but THIS is one of the worst things ever.
