The Stutter when exploring an area for the first time sounds like classic UE5 shader compilation issue. The good thing is, this can be fixed, by pre-compiling the shaders on startup. This is a fairly extensive manual process tough, but what better use of their time they gained by delays than this?
First souls-like that I really want to play, mainly because of the art. I think it will have a hard time when compared directly with Elden Ring, but it looks fun.
I mean Elden Ring is the ultimate conclusion of a long path of success, this one is the first real game of an indie company, any comparison would be unfair.

Wow they did something right that the last 2 big souls game didn't do despite it being in Sekiro Showing the posture meter which would've been really really helpful in Elden Ring and Lies of P Something that Lords of The Fallen somehow actually did right as well
as someone who loves the souls genre and makes a point of trying any and all soulslike that come out i felt as though enotria was solidly okay. The mask loadout thing is a cool idea but if you cant change your loadout mid journey then it kind of defeats the purpose as you have to go back and rest to change anything anyway. Basically you have 3 you can set up and swap between however your stats stay the same so if your specing into strength then swap to a magic loadout sure you can equipt some magic buffing stuff but for the most part its still not going to be as strong as if you had just speced all into magic. The magic itself takes WAYYYY too long to charge up theres two paths you can take in the skill tree one that charges then slower but they deal more damage and one that charges faster and they deal less. i picked the charge faster one in the last boss of the demo and in a 10 minute fight of constantly hitting the boss i managed to use a total of 2 spells out of my 4 IN TEN MINUITES! and furthermore then deal way to little damage for then to be worth waiting over 10 mins to use. The animations just arnt there the visually or technically the closest souls like to match from soft is lies of p and enotria feels like its half of the way to lies of p. Combat is slow i mean REALLY slow i tried to use the greatsword and it was basically unusable as it takes 15 seconds for a single swing. Level design is really good thats the main positive from this demo. Bosses were pretty cool but again without the proper animations even the coolest boss can feel average.
I mostly agree. I think you're onto something with the masks - I ended up rarely (if ever) swapping and using similar weapons on every set because those were the ones I invested in. Didn't feel bad, but it didn't feel like the feature was maximally useful. The magic does take a while, but it has some solid payoff. I used the slow charge/more power skill and it took over half of the first boss fight to charge up my most powerful one, but it immediately killed the boss when I unleashed it. So there's absolutely a use for them. Honestly for me the roughest parts aside from performance were the camera in tight arenas and the visual effects that made it a bit hard to see.
One thing this game does better than any other non-From Souls-like I've seen, is the sound and impact of the action. It looks and feels really, really good. Also, the amount of loot is crazy good! High hopes for this one.
Performance for me was terrible. Had my cpu running at 100% and 30fps on lowest settings. Not sure what the problem is. I feel I should be able to get a smooth 60fps on my 2080 super with an i7? Anyone know what could be causing this?

@Fextralife the reality is the vast vast majority of people either on the Internet or IRL have very little to no understanding of what it takes to design, dev and test even the most moddest of games. Anyways thanks for the comment and the vid on this game, looks cool and interesting IMO.
I like the setting and art design. The aesthetics are more important to me than other gamers who only care about the combat system. I have been to Italy on vacation and I love the theater so the Commedia dell'arte theme really appeals to me.
I love that it's another more slower souls like. I feel like in heaven, getting so many great soulslikes this year that aren't just faster and faster like Fromsoft trend of the genre.
one great thing about this game that I loved too much that I am going to comment is that one of the skills allows you to damage enemy posture on dodges - now that just turned the boring dodging mechanic (where usually the only upside is you get to live) into an offensive one which is much more enjoyable.
Preorder it, playing it now on ps5. Honestly, a good game , even though unreal engine for such games is a questionable choice. But before someone does a similar engine to from software , this is it for now. Biggest difference from the demo, is that the very vague movement has been fixed. The controls are actually good now. Personally believe that all souls like fans need to get this. From the start everything seems working . A big surprise.
just finished playing the hell out of the demo, about 20 hours of playtime, its just as good as Thymesia but just slightly under Lies of P, Day 1 buy forsure, solid 7 1/5 to 8 out of 10.
Feels really janky. Also don't like that there is no backstab attack on unaware enemies. I also wish you could adjust the camera. Hard to parry most enemies when you can't see the attack.
Camera and distracting visual effects are the biggest issues I ran into in the demo too (aside from performance). Doesn't feel very janky to me though.
I think Enotria has great promise, and I really admire what they've put together here. I like the "sunny souls" aesthetic way more than I thought I would, and the core systems seems fun to experiment with. However, I'm unable to enjoy actually playing it right now because of how painfully delayed the player's dodge feels. I've been playing with FromSoftware timing for so long that I just can't adjust to this. The parry also feels very sluggish, but I cant parry in FromSoft games either. Lies of P and Lords of the Fallen recently showed that a difficult, hard-to-parse, FromSoft-style parry isn't necessary, and actually having an easy parry is really the way to go. But even if the parry wasn't so sluggish, the enemies' attacks in this game are annoying in the same way that Lies of P enemies are, in that they telegraph really, super well, very slowly and obviously, and then suddenly the attack starts and hits you almost instantly. This is fine as long as the parry is on point, but in Enotria it is not. I feel the two "phases" of the enemy attack animations (i.e. the windeup, and the actual swing,) need to be a little bit more balanced with each other. Not even, but just a bit closer. In my opinion, anyway. Speed up the enemy telegraph slightly and slow down the enemy's actual swing just slightly, but most importantly, my character needs to dodge pretty _immediately_ when I press the button, not like 100+ ms later, which is how it feels. I would also prefer a snappier parry like Lies of P and Lords of the Fallen, but that's personal preference. Those are the three or four issues I have. With that said, if the devs were to tune these things, I think they'd be working with the foundations of a really cool and interesting indie soulslike. The quality is obviously there, the game looks gorgeous. I really hope they continue to tune this one so I can jump in and see what else it has to offer!
I don't know I expect something like steel rising - if world building is very good - or - if combat is very good - lies of p... inaturally this one is Italian so world building will be better than in lies of p u can already tell it has a certain consistency and stylistic coherency in how architectural styles are packed together... even tho I am not sure characters from commedia dell'arte should be hanging out in a medieval village but hey... Plus at 8:03 that's clearly mount Cervino, I went there skying in the summertime as a kid of course I am already sold on Enotria...
I'll def be checking out the Demo and play on getting it if I like it. I won't be rushing to it due to reason you said like other titles coming out. However I do think it looks promising.
So far my only complaint is that the animations are honestly pretty bad, though i think its going to be better in the released product. Other than that its only minor things, this games gonna be cool
the frame grabbing on entering a new area happens to me in elden ring all the time so as far as I'm concerned its just a souls like feature and is actually very good.
Idk if you played enough of it. There’s a clear difference in damage dealt depending on the weapon you use from the types available. And which attribute they use and what they’re strong or weak against matters too. I think this is not going to be the only game of Enotria. I think it’s just the start. It’s like an Italian dark souls, instead of English dark souls. They do things differently in both regions of the world lol.
im on Xbox S|X and just recently lost my job from my type 1 diabetes so not only can i not afford this game or any other souls game that i would like i also cant even try the demo. Why no xbox demo? I love we are getting more souls like games. This is my fav. genre in gaming.
I practice Historical European Martial Arts, & can see that Italian HEMA has heavily inspired the creation of this game. Seems interesting, but won't be a priority on my 'to-play' list
I played it for almost 15 hours and while it is fairly enjoyable, I'm stunned that they though it was ready to ship by August. There is a rather large list of issues with the game that I think they will be hard pressed to address by their new deadline. Quite a lot of souls likes just faceplant right out of the gate because they just rush to launching and I don't want that to happen to this game.
I have never played a soulslike in my life, and the genre has not interested me that much, the sole exception being Elden Ring, which I've watched quite a bit of gameplay of. Still, Enotria managed to captivate me with its peculiar aesthetic and has given me the desire to give the game a go. That being said, after having played the demo for a while, I am feeling quite lacking in combat, and struggle against most enemies aside from bottom level mooks. I do wonder if it's because this game's combat is particularly hard and rugged, or if I'm just bad lol
You said you were getting 80-90fps on average. There's an fps counter in the top right that shows the fps, and it looks as though it's locked to a 60hz refresh rate.
Do not crash the game manually after a death. You will fall through the world and the save will be broke! Mine broke once I got tot he second area after the first boss. This is PS5 version.
I already hate the blur after the parries just by watching this. And I think the stutter is a problem with Unreal 5 compiling shaders. Probably the full game will have some kind of pre-compile to fix this (we hope)
4 hours and Demo done with. Good visuals, good mechanics and ideas. This type of game needs flow and responsiveness, and it's not delivering so far, slow animations, clunky movement and attacks, very tech demo-y, like an unreal 4 showcase, and the motion blur, the fucking motion blur dogwater made me wanna quit at times. It has potential but at the price they're selling it? Not gonna turn a profit guys sorry to break it to ya
I been thinking for a while, wonder woman bracelet perfect parry. Iron gauntlet close enough. It look pretty cool. I seen demo gameplay of boss and the gauntlet parry look awesome. Italian game also a plus. When I hear about gaming company, non Korean, Japanese, American, it have some draw, cuz people like me inerest in other nation fantasy reality. Not feeling mask system, though. I would like customization to be a big part of character and game. Outfits, too.
my only concern and I hope they fix the time to consume healing to much faster, most of the time the enemy is fast as hell and no time space to heal at all
I played the demo for a couple hours the other night and it doesn't seem too bad.. the parry surprisingly tight and responsive. The movement seems a little janky but for this developers first game, it's pretty impressive. Especially since it's a soulslike. I'll definitely check it out when it releases
I thought anything over a straight sword is incredibly slow. The wind up of a collossal weapon is atrocious. The big enemies swing at double your speed or more.

It came out on Steam on September 16. So far, im enjoying it 😊
I don't know I expect something like steel rising - if world building is very good - or - if combat is very good - lies of p... inaturally this one is Italian so world building will be better than in lies of p u can already tell it has a certain consistency and stylistic coherency in how architectural styles are packed together... even tho I am not sure characters from commedia dell'arte should be hanging out in a medieval village but hey... Plus at 8:03 that's clearly mount Cervino, I went there skying in the summertime as a kid of course I am already sold on Enotria...
I’m definitely going to try out the demo and see how I like it.
How can you compare this to lies of p
I'll def be checking out the Demo and play on getting it if I like it. I won't be rushing to it due to reason you said like other titles coming out. However I do think it looks promising.
Well I’m getting this for sure
I enjoyed the demo! I hope they iron out the performance issues by release.
So far my only complaint is that the animations are honestly pretty bad, though i think its going to be better in the released product. Other than that its only minor things, this games gonna be cool
Excited to try the 8 hour demo on the 22
Seems good! It's good they moved the release date twice.. would be sucked going against ER DLC and Black Myth on Aug 20th
No such thing as too many GREAT soulslikes.
the frame grabbing on entering a new area happens to me in elden ring all the time so as far as I'm concerned its just a souls like feature and is actually very good.
Is this the new lords of the fallen? Looks like it
Idk if you played enough of it.
Definitely gonna try the demo but I'm just not sold on this one yet. Something seems off
im on Xbox S|X and just recently lost my job from my type 1 diabetes so not only can i not afford this game or any other souls game that i would like i also cant even try the demo. Why no xbox demo? I love we are getting more souls like games. This is my fav. genre in gaming.
I really enjoyed it tbh. I liked the combat and setting but think the animation to heal could be sped you a small bit but I'll check it out
I practice Historical European Martial Arts, & can see that Italian HEMA has heavily inspired the creation of this game.
Seems a bit stiff on the animation parts whenever anything is attacking
Its nice to swap between 3 loadouts on the fly.
very smart move, moving the release date from June 21st
I have never played a soulslike in my life, and the genre has not interested me that much, the sole exception being Elden Ring, which I've watched quite a bit of gameplay of. Still, Enotria managed to captivate me with its peculiar aesthetic and has given me the desire to give the game a go. That being said, after having played the demo for a while, I am feeling quite lacking in combat, and struggle against most enemies aside from bottom level mooks. I do wonder if it's because this game's combat is particularly hard and rugged, or if I'm just bad lol
To be honest I’m definitely playing this even though I always say I’m done with souls like lol
i'm italian so i'm very curious about this game
You said you were getting 80-90fps on average.
There's an fps counter in the top right that shows the fps, and it looks as though it's locked to a 60hz refresh rate.
I did lots of testing and locked and unlocked it so a lot of footage has different settings depending on what ended up making the edit
This game should be priced $39.99 USD tops. It’s doesn’t appear to be as good as Another Crabs Treasure, and that was $29.99
Just here to roll my eyes at all the “As an Italian…” comments
Do not crash the game manually after a death. You will fall through the world and the save will be broke! Mine broke once I got tot he second area after the first boss. This is PS5 version.
the close fov and lack of weight and the camera movement gave me some motion sickness. couldn't do more than a couple hours
Ouf. This looks much rougher than I hoped it to be.
5:55 that's a common problem with ue games... epic still hasn't fixed their shader compilation stutters
It remembers me thymesia, a very very good game.
1:24 that first time Ds2 Majula experience ?
I know this is going to sound weird but it looks very unreal engine like lol. I cant explain it but it looks like a tech demo.
The stuttering is the same we had with Jedi Survivor
No significant stutter on my rig: 13900ks + 4090.
We block and parry with our left arm?
I already hate the blur after the parries just by watching this. And I think the stutter is a problem with Unreal 5 compiling shaders. Probably the full game will have some kind of pre-compile to fix this (we hope)
Shader stutter is the bug bear of modern gaming on PC. Consoles don't get that problem.
@@Blade4Life76
They do. Lords of the fallen is a mess on console.
@@originalityisdead.9513 no it’s actually not
@@ProblematicSloth666
Yet it is. I've got the game on PC and PS5. The framerate is a mess.
@@originalityisdead.9513 I got it on PS5 and haven’t encountered any issues on three playthroughs
Feels like a slightly less clunky steel rising
Another Dark Souls at home.
Looks a lot like Steelrising. Will likely play, just probably not day one.
Gives me heavy Thymesia Vibes.
Solid soulslike Like thymesia. Same lvl od quality. I will Play it for sure. But maybe not for the full price tho
Outfits, too.
my only concern and I hope they fix the time to consume healing to much faster, most of the time the enemy is fast as hell and no time space to heal at all
It's so sad, that mortal shell did not come out this year
More people would have tried it..
I played the demo for a couple hours the other night and it doesn't seem too bad.. the parry surprisingly tight and responsive. The movement seems a little janky but for this developers first game, it's pretty impressive. Especially since it's a soulslike. I'll definitely check it out when it releases
Played the demo and it all felt like it was all on a delay. Just not for me.
I’m sorry bro if some stutter on a indie game that looks this good is a deal breaker for you your not a real gamer
I played 20 minutes last night. Doubt this beats Lies of P but not horrible. Combat feels somewhat disconnected. On the fence, need to resume tonight.
Does it have difficulty levels?
Really wish they would redo the dodge mechanic. I don't know if it's just me, but the dodging is just... off
I thought anything over a straight sword is incredibly slow. The wind up of a collossal weapon is atrocious. The big enemies swing at double your speed or more.
Didn't find a demo on PS5 today... sooo?
looks good
