I would argue that there is a place for remasters when it is difficult to play the original. That is games that are stuck on consoles that can't be easily emulated like the ps3. I'd love to see a remaster of MGS 4.
@@LuckyStrikeTech Exactly. To be fair any such port is going to be a pretty considerable undertaking given the difference in hardware architecture. Not all games from the PS3 are equally difficult to port, but the ones that fully exploited the systems hardware (i.e. First Party and favored 3rd Party developers) can definitely be tricky from what I've heard. So you would hope they'd go the extra mile.
Not all remasters are bad. I've been playing the remastered version of the first three Tomb Raider games and it's great. You can even switch between both versions on the fly.
Resident Evil is another franchise that’s been redone over and over. I’ve enjoyed most of them to varying degrees. However, the recent Resident Evil 4 remake was, after some assessment, my favorite game release for this generation cycle, and probably going to go up as my favorite game in general. I think the recipe to a good 2nd go at a game, is dependent on how faithful the team behind it is to the source material. Considering elements that haven’t aged well and evolving mechanics to meet current standards - all without losing the pieces that made it original in the first place. Loved the video! 🤘Great takes on a relevant topic, especially as the dawn of the remasters is upon us during this console generation.
Remasters aren't really pathetic in and of themselves. What's pathetic is when they do a remaster, but then expect people to pay the same price as a brand new AAA title. The whole point of a remaster should be making a really old classic available to play properly on newer hardware.
I liked Mass Effect Legendary edition. Think it works fine as a remaster, though Mass Effect 1 and maybe Mass Effect 2 could probably benefit from a remake. 3 doesnt really need one at this time though.
I am not game developer. However if you make a fantastic composition (instrumental), then swap out all the instruments for much clearer, higher fidelity, higher quality versions of the same sounds, then the instrumental WILL NOT sound better as expected. In fact it will be painful to listen to.
That's not always true. The Classic Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered is perfect. Not only do you not have to suffer with digital, expansion packs previously only available on PC are available for all. After the Anniversary trilogy, new TR is not remotely the same kind of game. The point of the original games including tricks and easter eggs would be lost.
I think remasters are necessary but we are in an era of games that dont need it like spiderman ps4 and horizon zero dawn like i want a remaster of bloodborne i dont think the game needs remade just updated but overall i would agree
@@LuckyStrikeTech for sure if it horizon was just made a bit better to be ported to pc id understand same with spiderman but sony is going the greedy route like usual
There's a whole new generation of people that have not played the og ver its smart get new customers to buy the game and maybe get a few old suckers to get it too
Nope. If you are gonna remake a game, the original must be remastered first. A remake can never replace the original. Like System Shock, RE4, MGS3, Dead Space 1 etc.
The Horizon remaster is especially egregious because, regardless of your opinion of the game, the original release of Zero Dawn is still absolutely gorgeous visually. The fact Sony delisted the original console port on Steam even strikes home that they know it doesn't look much better objectively. Edit - Also, I will say there is a narrow range of remasters that are okay in my opinion. For instance, the Homeworld 1 'Remaster'. Though that might be an exception since the HW1:Remaster is an entire rebuild in the HW2 Engine.
Can't wait for Lunar Remastered Collection to come out next year. Those are remastered version of the remakes of the originals😆 Also can't wait for Suikoden 1 & 2 HD too😃 Hopefully those RPG remasters will be better than the remasters of GTA...
I dont like that you basically started a react channel 3 minutes into the video. Did you watch those other videos, open up a word doc and list bullet points on what you were going to say? because it sure dam looks like it @ 3:30 Youre basically "watching" this clip, then get the idea out of nowhere to say that they are mobile ports. Its like you paused, then right after you finished the sentence you googled a random kotaku article, then started to record again with "yea so they took the mobile ports...". Why not dig a bit deeper into War Drum Studios and how they fumbled the ports in the first place?
Counterpoint: I love the Horizon series, and playing the game with higher graphics and faster loading speeds is an exciting way for me to replay the game
I don’t see the problem. Nothing “needs” a remaster, nothing “needs” a remake, nothing “needs” a sequel. You can just play the original. And if they want to make a remaster/remake/sequel, nothing’s stopping them. If it’s bad people won’t buy it, if it’s good people will buy it. I genuinely don’t understand why everyone gets so heated about this stuff.

Good point. But I’d hope they can at least take care and consideration of the original work
@@LuckyStrikeTech Definitely, if they can't do the original justice they shouldn't even bother.

remasters of like the last of us part 2 and horizon are kinda stupid but i do appreciate remasters in the form of ports to the next console
hey I really like your videos, keep up the good work!
I appreciate the support!

I think the team being faithful to the source material is key to the whole thing!
remaster if done well preserve the original
If done well is the key word here.

Do you think there are any remasters worth the money? Or do you have any favorite remakes?
I mean I'm biased but Halo 2 anniversary was pretty good
Id only want remasters for the old armored core games

this comment made my head spin
i love D2R...Like it a lot better then making my eyes bleed on a 800*600 pixelated mess. But i guess that one is the exception that proves the rule.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about😂
Remasters should only be for games on ps3/360 and older. Games that arent readily accessibile
MGS Delta is a remaster though.

Same with The Last of Us and Resident Evil

Both are, let games age and move forward
ps3 games should be remastered.
