That was my take also. It was cute on the wings broadcast the announcer initially said "he took a second to check that kostin was okay" when in reality I'm sure it was something more like "we don't hit goalies"
“Running the goalie” 😂 guy was driving to the net trying to make a play. The disrespect and lack of class to go and stand over kostin who was laying hurt on the ice is a joke. Gudas is a dirtbag with a shitty beard and the whole league hates him.

Wings fan here. Gudas has always been a physical player. I don't see a darn thing wrong with the hit. It's textbook. Maybe it was a reaggravated injury. Kostin was out for a game or two recently.

I remember watching Gudas in Norfolk. Dude wasn't the best player but is a tough guy that can skate.

Clean hit. Klim's upper body was twisted on impact. That can really wind you and stretch out the old obliques. Kostin is a tough dude. We miss him in Edmonton. He will bounce back. Gudas had better be ready to drop the gloves next time.

I both love and hate this hit. Love the good solid clean hit. Hate that it was against my man Klim Kostin and double hate that he got hurt.
There is permanent room for him on my team and endless amounts of respect for him.
Don’t really know Gudas but I think he’s a clean respectable dude. I do know that it was a good clean hit.

Notice how it's the HIP of Gudas that is the main source of impact, he didn't raise his shoulder until contact and that's how you avoid hits to the head. That also means all his weight was behind that hit, he didn't aim at Kostin... he wanted to go THROUGH him. But a nice clean hit.
Kostin did a good job of keeping his head up otherwise he would have looked like a ragdoll. Too bad he absorbed the impact with perpendicular hip/shoulder angle.
Oilers fan here... I miss Kostin. We let him go because the new guy up top wanted to bring back Conor Brown... They signed him for 4 million with only 775000 going against the cap but 3.25 million in bonuses next year. Kostin got 2 million in Detroit for 7 minutes of ice time. The Oilers could have paid 775000 this season & paid the rest in bonuses next year. Brown has 1 assist... Kostin was a menace & could score. He also gave the best interviews which he won't get to do in Detroit playing 7 minutes a game.

has anybody else noticed NHL audio syncing issues the past couple seasons? it's possible this was just the announcer reacting early, but I watch the philly CSN broadcast and the announcer audio is routinely a full second or so before the actual play. I've noticed it in national broadcasts too. it's starting to get real annoying.... especially when there's a reaction to a goal before its scored.
oh audio is messed up all over the place this season, nesn had a nice buzzing sound going on for most of the 3rd period the other day in the bruins game
Even last season, it was happening when i was watching my panthers. Really annoying especially in OT
not to respond to my own comment but.... I forgot the other part of this is video syncing issues too. When it changes cameras from the normal one to an ice-level camera, there's sometimes like a second or two of play completely missing. makes me think the typical red-line cameras are just a second behind or something.
oh and also just the volume levels, casters and arena mics are always at some random level

refs always stop play when a player is down injured. It just gets delayed if the opposing team has possession.

Even though some are "clean" hits like this one, he does his best all the time to make them the most violent possible. He makes the fight for the puck being a pretext for hitting players. Despicable way of playing.

Well that's the thing, this generation's players have forgot. Or haven't even been aware. Hitting and physical play is so down nowadays that on a rare occasion a big hit happens skaters don't expect them... Or even know how to take them.
Kostin is not worthy of #24. Detroit should retire that number for Probert. RIP.
