Green is the color in the middle of the visible spectrum of light for us humans, whereas red wavelengths are just about long enough to not be seen. Your eyes are able to pick out green tints more easily because it is completely within the spectrum of light that we can see.

First I rotated my phone 90 degrees and the colours in the vertical and horizontal lines changed. But when I tried to rotate it 45 degrees, my brain broke.
I submitted myself to this optical illusion more than a year ago (because otherwise I wouldn't have convinced myself that it was real) and, no joke, the effect has still not worn off completely. I mean, it's very very faint now, but it's definitely still there.
If you are already saw vertical green and horizon red, just see horizon green and vertical red, or do the opposite, maybe it gonna neutralized the illusion, but i dont know if it can make the illusion getting worst... It just crossing my mind... I dunno, try it
If you re-watch the entire video turned at 90 degrees it will cancel out the effect and you'll see the black/white stripes normally again. Also, turning the video 45 degrees removed the effect temporarily.

I did it twice, the first time I could kind of see what they were talking about, the second time it was a bit more intense, this won't switch colors in your head.. it'll just make you see these colors when you see similar patterns. No point to being worried about the long lasting effects as it won't effect your life much.

I watched this when it first came out, and every few months I have been checking to see it the effect is still there. I still see the red and green, almost 4 years later
I'm only getting the vertical lines to have a slight pink tint, the horizontal lines are barely affected, the biggest effect for me is when the pictures changes, especially from green to red, then I get like matrix looking kind of code or like a green monster logo for a few seconds. Why is this? I've looked at the pictures twice (2x3 minutes) within a minute of each other.
The sensory cells in your eyes are grouped per color, red blue and green. When you stare at one color for a while, the cells which are sensitive to that color get temporarily burned out. When the picture changes what happens is that they start to come back to function. Because all the colors are present in the white parts but none of the previous color is present in the colored parts they only get stimulated by the white parts, while the cells sensitive to the new color get stimulated by the colored parts more. Combine this with the fact that our eyes are constantly darting around in where were looking, and you get this trippy effect when the picture changes.

wow i did it this morning and its still green and red so im going to do it like 5 more times in a row and see how bright the colors get because they are very pale. I bet the effect is going to last for like a year aswell if i do it a bunch so we shall see. Wish me luck!
alright yep it definitely works the colors are so bright now but i dont recommend it because now everything else kind of blends together, i hope i didnt mess my eyes up for life. whatever that was fun

wow it worked. i WOULD NOT recommend trying it but if u do just know that it doesnt have a very big effect

I'm only getting the vertical lines to have a slight pink tint, the horizontal lines are barely affected, the biggest effect for me is when the pictures changes, especially from green to red, then I get like matrix looking kind of code or like a green monster logo for a few seconds. Why is this? I've looked at the pictures twice (2x3 minutes) within a minute of each other.
The sensory cells in your eyes are grouped per color, red blue and green. When you stare at one color for a while, the cells which are sensitive to that color get temporarily burned out. When the picture changes what happens is that they start to come back to function. Because all the colors are present in the white parts but none of the previous color is present in the colored parts they only get stimulated by the white parts, while the cells sensitive to the new color get stimulated by the colored parts more. Combine this with the fact that our eyes are constantly darting around in where were looking, and you get this trippy effect when the picture changes.
Will go back to this video in 1 year to see if I still have the effect on me
