One of the most fascinating organs in our body is the human brain. You could say that it is central control, or headquarters for our body. Without our brain, we are not alive. The brain is where our consciousness lives and our memories are preserved. If we are considered “brain dead”, then the plug gets pulled on our life support. It is a complex organ of fatty tissue, and the brain helps us process different kinds of information through our five sense. Using our nose, the brain can tell us whether we are experiencing a pleasant smell or something foul. With our ears, the brain can help us process the noises we are hearing and be able to tell the difference from language to noises. With our mouth, the brain helps us figure out whether the food we are eating is good for us and not poisonous. Finally, with our eyes, the brain helps us process the information we are seeing visually. Our brain and our eyes have a beautiful relationship by letting us see colors, nature, people, and more, along with associate these visions with emotions. With such wondrous capabilities, it can be easy to just assume and trust that what our eyes are telling us is true. Well, not exactly.
In the last several centuries, optical illusions have been playing tricks with our brain and causing us to question what is real and what is fiction. Optical illusions can be created by Mother Nature, or they can be manmade, thus creating an entire art dedication to optical illusions and messing with our brain and everything that we know about the world around us. With the innovation and evolution of optical illusions, we are now getting confused more often than ever before! People have even dedicated their lives and support themselves from creating their own optical illusions. These artists even get a kick from us stepping on their painting and thinking that we are about to descend into a multiple story fall, but instead, our foot remains on solid ground.
This video has ten of the most mind blowing optical illusions. They are so crazy that you would think that they were simply a trick of the camera or computer. What makes these optical illusions extra special is the fact that they play with your perception using colors, angles, light, shapes, sizes, and more. Our eyes have been conditioned and groomed to see certain things by the way the light hits an object, or by the way and angle is seen by our eyes. Reality can be manipulated so many ways by a simple tilt of the head or a beam of light, or a splash of color. By breaking down why you are seeing the optical illusion in the first place, we can start descending upon the bridge of understanding. Probably one of the most unsettling things about optical illusions is that the seed of doubt can bleed over to our normal everyday lives and cause us to question everything by just looking outside.

I freakn LOVE optical illusions! I got a book from the book fair in 4th grade and that introduced me to them, been obsessed ever since. Art and the brain are so intriguing together.

1:52 The dots are moving in a circular pattern as well as a straight line. This is a hypotrochoid with a circle with half the radius rolling inside of the larger one, which actually ends up producing straight lines as shown.

that dress at 1:21 is incredible. First time I clearly saw black and blue colours, and after a minute I rewinded the video to see how the dress looks, and it was purely white and gold. Great vid.

@@branthomas1621 really, but at the moment I also can only see black and blue. Probably it's way easier to see actual colors and quite rarely the eyes can be tricked to see white/gold colors.
Thats where me and some others had a problem. I and them could only see Blue and Gold. Neither of the other options.

What I like about optical illusions is that they provide clues as to how our 'vision system' processes the 'signals' it is receiving. What is also interesting is that even though you know what the illusion is, you cannot 'turn it off' and see the reality. ;-/
I suspect that 'vision' takes some much 'processing power' and is essential to survival that interrupting it would be dangerous to your health.

the circle illusion explains how you feel on those fairground rides that have induvidually rotating carriages that in turn are attached to a main bbig rotating part.. feels like you are whooshing in straight lines right accross to the other side rather than going in circles
I remember this dress issue it literally caused an uproar with everyone from all over. I still don't see any sign of blue that people mention especially the so called black that is still to me NOT there. The dress on the left that's actually blue and black looks nothing like the white and gold dress on the right. It puzzles me how people see blue and black on the gold dress even with poor lighting doesn't seem enough evidence for me to see blue and black unless someone had photoshopped the dress to mess with everyone. Can someone explain to me?
the eye illusion(s) also happens when someone looks directly at the focal point or has / had been drawn so...the eyes seem to be following you throughout your room...

So what does it mean if my eyes can’t see motion in the images from 2:08? I am somewhat color blind, so would that have anything to do with it? Any response / answer would be greatly appreciated.
The dress usually I see white and gold but this time I saw blue
Being a specific type of color blind, I always knew the dress was blue because I was incapable of seeing it as gold. Also the same color blindness allows me to freeze those moving images whenever I want. That is not to say there are not some major disadvantages to my color blindness as well, ha.

Interestingly, those circles *are* moving in a circular pattern -- the key is that a circular pattern is identical to them moving sinusoidally along specific straight lines. In other words, *they are doing both at once.* This isn't so much an optical illusion, as it is a cool result of mathematics and geometry.
