  • This is Stacy and Roxy's final performance of the 'Live Like You Were Dyin' routine before retiring it (fittingly) at THE PFIZER FANTASIA, 2008 show in Columbus, Ohio. (Note the P.A. announcement at the end). Stacy and Roxy were (are) simply beautiful!
Thank you, Paul V, for befriending us instantly upon first meeting, and allowing us to meet Stacy and Roxy exclusively inside the arena! What a tremendous privilege!

I don't know why ppl would put this video down. I got her 2006 video in an e-mail and sat and cried. To watch anyone with that must love and trust for an animal is amazing! When I showed it to my husband, he started crying the tough guy he is.
The bond is so strong and the trust and even other videos I've watched, it's amazing.

I am so glad you posted this--you did a great job filming. The whole program so so amazing--I was there Saturday night, too. My husband and I drove up from Ashland, KY just for this event with our daughter-in-law. Thanks for helping preserve the memory. And thanks, Stacy and Roxy!

I do natural horsemanship and ride bareback and bridless most of the time, I think it is a amzing way to bond with your horse. Stacy is amazing and I really look up to her.

I showed the video to my neighbor, who stuck her nose in the air and said, "that's all fake anyway. I've seen people use a string run through the horse's mouth to control them".
I told her that the only thing fake around here was her.
Stacy Westfall is THE best in my opinion.
Anyone ever tells me she's fake again- I'm shootin' first and askin' questions later.

Stacy was amazing. It sounded like the PA guy said that this was the last time THIS WEEKEND that she would be performing the routine. I don't think she's completely done with it, but it could;ve just been the guy's phrasing. As for the spur thing, I don't use them...ever, but I understand that some riders prefer them to hard kicks or crops. It depends on the horse and you need to teach yourself to control the amount of pressure. Stacy perfects that. You can see she never uses them constantly.

ppl are so ignorant yes she uses spurs without tack a horse is more likely to not give in to sublte clues spurs just help keep the horse looking for them she is not digging them in I thought she was doing an awesome job balancing without her heels. she is an amazing rider and some ppl on this comment board need to realize almost anyone with basic riding skills can rein when they have the right horse like someone said ellen did, it takes someone great to train a horse to do this without tack

If you actually pay attention, Roxy is licking and chewing meaning she has full trust in Stacy. Her ears are back because she is listening for the slightest signal Stacy might give. Her tail is swishing because she is questioning Stacy yet concentrating hard. Spurs give more precise signals. Stacy is not harming Roxy in any way shape or form.

Oh, I know, and none to you, either! But actually, the only times Roxy wasn't licking and chewing ever, was when she was concentraiting. If you watch a few more videos, Roxy will lick and chew when she is doing slower circles, but when she goes faster, or when she's spinning she stops licking, which is a really good thing!

That's why she won the National Reining Horse Association Freestyle reining competition in '03, this AQHA Congress competition in '06, and why she won the 2006 Road to the Horse colt starting competition: because she can't do proper spins, sucks at riding in front of crowds, teaches horses to be resistant to cues, and digs her spurs into the sides of her horse.
    Riiiiiiiiight.

Certain horses need different things than others. Stacy is a proffetional, and knew what was best for Roxy. Some horses just can't be weaned of certain things, and habbits. Spurs do not cause pain to horses, they are tools used to reinforce a command for horses that are a little harder on their sides. They are a tool, just like bridles, saddles, and crops. It was made illegal to use harmful spurs, the big sharp ones. If this caused any harm, I'm sure all spurs would be illegal by now.

some people actually look at the technicality of a ride rather than the fact that she did it for her father. my horse is far from dead broke, its the simple fact that i ride her correctly and know what i am asking for and when. i would have not pointed that out if not for people saying i couldnt do it. simply a comparison ;)

That horse was not happy, watch how active it's tail is. And no its not because of the flies, you can tell if you know how to read a horse. Something was happening during this show that that horse didn't like. I know it's not what Stacy is doing because I've watched her other videos and Roxy(the horse) didn't have that active tail, but she did have it going full blast this time

haha, it's alright! If a horse is in pain, it will for sure let you know, and I mean LET you know, as in buck, kick, or bolt to get away from the pain. If you compare the way Roxy is acting to how your horse normally does, you'll find that this is 100% normal for a horse.

I don't think that Roxy had her ears pinned. When spinning, a horse usually will streach out its head, and to me it looks like her ears are turned back to listen to Stacy's cues in spinning, and it just looks that way. My horse swishes her tail in exciting environments, so maybe that's just a happit that Roxy had, like my mare.

hi there, (I'm sorry if this is rude, I'm really not trying to be mean or snobby, please don't take this in the wrong way) but when Roxy does the sliding stop is from Stacy's voice, she simply says "woah" and leans back. You are very right about everything that Roxy was listening to Stacy's legs but I just thought you might like to know the stop was mostly from Stacy's weight changing and her voice. :) I'm sorry if this is rude, I'm not trying to sound that way.
