Cheers Maria! 😊 I was actually torn between doing Creep or this solo track from Geoff, and obviously chose the latter. But Creep will definitely happen one day.
Glad you enjoyed the first of Geoff's solo covers you listened to. If you like Radiohead, you might enjoy the VoicePlay cover of Creep. No rush. I'll be here whenever you get back to Geoff and VP.
Geoff didn't start doing solo work until Covid shut the world down, so he doesn't have a huge catalogue. Doesn't matter, every one is a gem. Usually he sings harmony with himself, this is only one with no other vocal. Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks for another reaction to Geoff's solo work. Everything is wonderful whether it is Geoff solo or Voiceplay. The way that Layne and Geoff and Eli arrange music is very enjoyable....so much skill. I love the way they honor the original music but make it their own when they each arrange. So, so talented! We all understand the exception for VoicePlay and Geoff. So many of us fell headfirst into their rabbit holes and have no desire to leave. VoicePlay should be releasing a new video any day now and it is wonderful. Cardigans are warm....you need to be comfortable.
@melvinthinks It's a good problem to have. Their catalog is large, but when we've seen all of it, we rewatch and await the next month's release. They are shooting next month's video very soon and it should be on Patreon a week or two after that...usually, many variables and not all under their control. (Premieres on YT usually a week or two after Patreon.)
"Lush" is a great description of Geoff's tone. He's an exceedingly talented arranger, making every cover both a tribute and something new. As to shampoo, he's said on webchats that he uses whatever his wife Kathy puts on the shelf
I don't believe him! 🤣 He definitely has a cupboard or his own man shelf with all of his own bit and bobs. Even I do and I don't have any hair. Plus my partner would never let me use her shampoo! lol
Thanks for your reaction! Looking forward to more of your reactions to solo Geoff and Voice Play. Voice Play will be dropping a new one soon that will blow you away!😁
Don't think I can keep up with all of their latest releases due to my pending VP To Do List, but I'm always looking forward to the next one with these guys!
take your time with the reactions, but we will be pleased with every VP and Geoff video! and its a lovely cardigan (under 30 here, I am not cool either, but under 30 if that gives me any authority on the subject)
I love that you appreciate how Geoff made the song his own even though you love the original so much. I don’t understand when people say a cover is too different since really it should be. 😅
I know, right!!! I recently did a reaction to Tori Amos covering "Raining Blood" by Slayer (a thrash metal band) , and quite a lot of people were critical that she destroyed the song and made it sound nothing like the original. It's Tori flipping Amos! Of course she is going to make it sound different! lol
This is my personal favourite Geoff solo song because he put so much emotion into it... and a load of his range to achieve it... Voiceplay and Geoff have something very special about them... As for cardigans... is that the same as a jersey? Well I like yours! They never go out of "fashion" because they are functional! The guys wear some interesting ones in their Christmas songs (jumpers too!) that you will like! Thank you for your "ramblings" - enjoyable in this world where joy is hard to find at the moment! ⚘️🕊
I don't do sweaters of any kind. I will wear sweatshirts though. I don't know this song, never got into Radiohead ,other than Creep which most people know. Geoff's version of "16 Tons" is one of my favorites on his channel. Yeah, you're going to love Oogie Boogie when you get to it. lol
Are sweaters and sweatshirts not the same thing? You Americans make it really difficult for us Brits, destroying the English language and spelling everything incorrectly 😁
Thank you for this wonderful reaction. Geoff is such an outstanding artist 🥰 I can completely understand and empathize your reaction to Geoff. He and Voiceplay are the reason I became a Patreon of them. I love to see your reactions to them. And regarding your question about Cardigans - we also have them in Germany and I like them a lot. They are comfy and cozy 😁 (okay I am an 57 old woman and I am not feeling old at all 😂)
You're as old/young as you feel 😁 I still have the maturity of a teenager at times, but trapped in a 41 year-old body! lol Thanks, Jeanette. Glad you are enjoying these videos and I love the chats with you guys. Some fans can be d*ckheads, but the "VoicePlayaz" certainly aren't 😊
I've been to Berlin twice and love it there. I also have several German friends. As long as you keep coming back and saying nice things, I'll agree with you both 😘
As far as inevitable Christmas songs go, please try to get around to Geoff's "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" when the time comes. I think he did it 2 years ago? Maybe 3? But it is a truly beautiful arrangement of that song. Come the season, I listen to it multiple days in a row.
I think your cardigan looks very cozy! Who cares if it's stylish or not. BTW - we Americans might have a different word for sweater (jumper) but we do call them cardigans
My introduction to Geoff was his "far over the misty mountains cold". Fell in love with the first note. He is an outstanding musician. His arrangements are like diamonds, may they be for his solo stuff or Voiceplay. His voice is just like hot chocolate on a cold winters day. Speeking of winter, I love Voiceplays "Christmas don't be late“. It's so much fun watching. But Geoffs "God rest ye merry Gentleman" is just wonderful, too. But you can just check out anything on both channels, it's always damn good stuff🥰
I don't have a keyboard here to check. But it sounds like he is doing glottal onsets down around A1 and shooting up to about a B4 in that chorus section. So, what, 3 octaves and 2 semitones(ish).
@@melvinthinks Of course! I enjoy your reactions, I enjoy supporting VP and Geoff, and I try to remember to post a comment even when I don't have much to say!
Whenever I want to relax and just let the world melt away at the end of a long day, I listen to High and Dry by Geoff....sorry, Sexy Geoff. His voice is already so calming and paired with this song it's just magic. I look forward to more of your reactions to him and VP. Oh, I say cardigans are in. Though, I'm 41, so what do I know. 🤣
Thanks for the wonderful reaction! It's clear you enjoy what you do, and I appreciate your balance between humor and thoughtful commentary immensely. If I may add to the request list: Geoff's solo cover of "Sound of Silence" is truly unique, while still keeping the spirit of the original. Epic and haunting. I love both the Simon & Garfunkel original and the Disturbed cover, but nearly NO other of the dozens I've listened to. So, high bar. Along comes Geoff Castellucci, like "Oh, you thought it was hard picking #1 from two amazing variants?" and drops an emotional, yet galaxy-brain surprising arrangement that resonated in my SOUL!
Thank you Miran for the kind words 😁🙏 I tend to follow a more rock/metal/alternative approach to my VP reactions as it follows my channel genre niche and excites me a bit more 😬 They have 100's of covers so there's plenty for me to feast on, that's for sure!
@@melvinthinks Ah, I getcha! Thanks for the quick reply. You're right, VP and Geoff did a ton of awesome covers on an impressive spectrum. Not everything hits the spot for everyone, but SOMEthing is sure to wow ANYone.
Cardigans are great, because you can leave them open when it gets too warm, with a sweater you have to take it off and then most of the times it gets too cold 🥶 And as a girl with very long hair I don't want my hair looking like a mess 😂🙈 I'm so happy you liked it, cause I was really anxious how you (as a big Radiohead fan) would see it 😅 And for me, Geoff playing the piano in his videos is another level of "sexiness" 🤩🙈 Geoff sings from bass to tenor 😂 I think when the vocal ranges where distributed he just said YES 😂🤷🏻♀️ VoicePlay did a beautiful cover of "Creep" by Radiohead, it makes me cry EVERYTIME 😢
Yeah I know what you mean about taking off your sweater, and it messing up your long hair. I can definitely relate to you on that. Oh... wait... sorry. I thought it was 2001 when I had long hair 😪 Creep is definitely on my list. There's about 4 I'm torn on as to which to do next, so I might put it to a community poll actually.
Another one where Geoff focuses more on conveying the beauty of the song than on showing off his stellar vocal range is “Imagine”. He doesn’t drop any subterranean notes in it and you still come away feeling like the floor dropped out from under you! Hope you get to check that one out sometime!
Growing up in 🏴 I love a good cardigan and they featured in my wardrobe for a good 90% of the year. Now I live in 🇦🇺 I only really have a month or two where I can wear them comfortably. I do miss snuggling up in a cosy cardie in the autumn/winter though. Geoff’s voice is like a cuddly warm cardie. 😂 Also I will add I am a Patreon of both Geoff and Voiceplay (and Layne’s Pattycake productions for a whole other rabbit hole to fall down), and once during a q&a session Geoff answered one of my technical questions and I’m afraid to admit I just about swooned hearing him say my name 🫣 😍
Yay! I'm so excited you got to sexy Geoff's solo stuff. I was so excited for the 14th because I couldn't wait to see what your first reaction would be. If you want even more of a reason to love Geoff, I recommend his cover of Way Down by Elvis. He's incredibly goofy in that one and there's some rather *ahem* interesting choreography. Then of course I recommend Rains of Castamere if you just want to fawn over his low notes and the costumes in that one look amazing on him. Lastly, cardigans are awesome although "sweater jackets" has a nice ring to it. Now that Christmas is coming up, I recommend you check out VP's You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch, Jingle Bell Rock Mean Girls, Christmas Don't Be Late and Geoff's God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Love your reactions.
@melvinthinks Haha, it's a story song from singer-songwriter Jim Croce. Admittedly not your typical genre, but there's a good chance you've at least heard the chorus in passing. And if not, could be a fun step outside the usual. 😉 You don't tug on Superman's cape You don't spit into the wind You don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger And you don't mess around with Jim (Spoiler: Someone messes around with Jim)
Geoff has been asked about his haircare products several times. In typical guy fashion, he says "whatever Kathy bought." I'm here for any VoicePlay or Geoff reaction. If you want to mix things up, i suggest Home Free, another awesome a cappella group with a fabulous bass singer, Tim Foust. You could compare their versions of Folsom Prison Blues and Man of Constant Sorrow to Geoff's. Home Free still performs Elvira at their live shows, ten years after borrowing Geoff's arrangement of it.
I've had a brief look at Home Free, and I'll be honest, they aren't jumping out at me. At least with VoicePlay they are covering songs and genres of music I love and enjoy, so it still follows the musical theme of the channel. I need to maybe dig a bit deeper and I'll never say never 😁
We really don’t mind you pushing VP but understand that you need verity with content. So I will push Home Free as another option. I think I’m to old to say if something’s cool (40’s) but as far as cardigans if worn in combo with jeans and sneakers that’s cool. Also “bow ties are cool!” I hope you get that quote. But Sexy Geoff has been seen wearing cardigans so that’s up to you mate. ❤
Yeah, who cares if it's cool...it's comfy! Cardigans are cool among millennials and above (I know because my kids are millennials) But I got no clue where sketches and cardigans land with kids younger than millennials. I am a pretty stylish lady for my age, but I am really not up with the irrelevant styles that come and go with the wind. Now as to this cover...it's fantastic, I didn't even know liked this song before I heard his version! He's got sooooo many great covers on his channel, I'd love to hear you react to! Geoff and Voiceplay don't block or bogart you money for covering them!
Exactly! I'm too old to care what people think. I mean... look at me! 😆 I'm hardly a UA-cam fashion icon! Am really enjoying the VoicePlay reactions. Just recorded another today which should hopefully be out in the next few weeks. And when I see they have covers to some of my favourite bands, like Radiohead, it makes it really exciting for me and hopefully for the viewers too. Thanks for watching and commenting 😘
@@melvinthinks Oh Yay! Can't wait. I love your reactions because you're funny and real! It's easy for my fellow musicians to get really high-minded about modes and chord/harmonic structures and such, and while I appreciate that, I'm capable of my own analysis in that regard...I just like *enjoying* it with someone else who enjoys it as much as I do. When I need a bit more in-depth analysis, I listen to Peter Barber and a few others, but I have a music degree myself, been in music all my life...I just want to enjoy it. I have new melodies running around in my head all day every day and my brain's in constant analysis mode, so I don't need that so much. This is for escape! Keep up the good work!🙂
I'm a musician too 😊 Played guitar for 27 years and studied music production, live sound and engineering. So I know what you mean. There are plenty of other reactors out there who are much more qualified and better equipped than me to do full vocal analysis and all that kind of stuff. I just want to escape the mundanity of everyday life and listen to cool music, and share the experience with whoever can be arsed to watch it! lol Thank you again for the kind words and encouragement. It genuinely does mean a lot 😊
Thank you so much! 😁 I'm releasing a poll tomorrow at 12pm GMT asking viewers which BM song they want me to react to next. Based on that, I'd predict a new video will be around the 2nd or 3rd week of December.
You mentioned videos being copyrighted - since both VoicePlay and Geoff are completely independent artists (neither even has a manager, much less a record label to look over them), I think you may find that you have better success getting their videos monetized than artists who do have a label to protect their interests. Not at all sure how UA-cam looks out for such things, but it's a possibility. As for your cardigan - I haven't worried about whether something is "cool' or "fashionable" since high school, comfort is #1 for me. On your sweater (I think most people in the States would call a cardigan a sweater), I use a cheap hoodie around the house to stay comfortable - as easy to use as a sweater, no worries if I spill something on it or damage it in some way, it was cheap and it never sees the outside of my home.
I have noticed VP releasing the copyright claims, which is super kind of them. Have never understood why record labels and artists (aside from greed) insist on taking 100% of the ad revenue. It works for everyone when the reactor is monetised because 1) the reactor feels inclined to make more videos 2) the band/artist receives free marketing 3) the band/artist reaches more people without doing anything. It's all about fair use too, because I know some people do take advantage of it. It's a fine line, tbh.
Hi mate. Don't suppose you'd be interested in seeing sexy Geoff cover "I see fire" originally by Ed Sheeran? BTW I'm a bit of a decent cardie guy but prefer vans or converse to Sketchers. 🤷♂️
OK, let's be honest. This song didn't really convince us. His very deep voice definitely has potential for us, but his high voice doesn't. In a slow and dark song he could be quite interesting for us. Since you are very interested in vocal range, you should definitely listen to the Japanese singer Ado. Ado is a young woman who is described as Jpop by some, but can actually sing any genre and does it. Ado is only convincing with her voice and not, like many other singers from the Western music industry, with her looks and the skimpiest clothing possible, because she never shows her face, neither in music videos nor at concerts. Ado is considered by many to be the best and most versatile singer in the world. We recommend you watch Ado's live (!!!) performance of the song Unravel.
Are you familiar with the Radiohead original though? It's a gorgeous track if you haven't heard that version before. It's a classic. As for Ado... I've heard a bit of her before... and... not for me 😐 Didn't really connect with it and/or understand it. I'd put all of the bands you've already recommended to me above her on my priority list to be brutally honest with you. She is to me, how how you two both feel about Lovebites 😘 Ouch! 😆
@@melvinthinks No, we've never really been interested in Radiohead before, so we're not consciously aware of the original song. OK, we can't understand why people don't like Ado (except maybe a few songs from an unloved genre), but we accept it. By the way, the song we suggested is a very emotional one that transitions into metal.
Okay, if I add this song to my list (reaction or in my own leisure) then I highly recommend you listen to "Just", "Paranoid Android", "Creep" and "No Surprises". Radiohead admittedly are an acquired taste, but those tracks are wonderful and timeless. If you don't listen to them, that's okay too, but if you are ever bored and wanting a challenge, give those tracks a shot with a glass of whisky 🥃
@@melvinthinks OK, we can do that. “Creep” also sounds familiar to us. Is the part "...but I'm a creeeep" from the song? If we listened to the radio more, we would probably know the other songs too, but there is too much crap on the radio. If you listen to the song in your free time and not in a reaction, or if you decide not to publish a recorded reaction, please let us know how you liked the song.

"Exterminate!" 😊
I just want to escape the mundanity of everyday life and listen to cool music, and share the experience with whoever can be arsed to watch it! lol
Thank you again for the kind words and encouragement. It genuinely does mean a lot 😊
When will be the next Babymetal reaktion?
Btw, I love your videos
You lost me at Ed Sheeran 😆
Yeah - that's the one 😁 And I will certainly let you know about Ado when the time arises 👍
