Thank you for the shout out 🙂 You mentioned watching videos on my channel, so I just wanted to make you aware that I have marked my videos as "reactor safe" if they don't have any music video spoilers in them, at the top of the description, and I have also put them in a "reactor safe playlist". just so you don't accidentally watch big spoilers from their music videos, because many of my videos contain bits and pieces of their music videos.
Reactor safe yes! I did some searching just to see what all you had and I stuck with the reactor safe. (I normally don't take my time when I'm looking but I did this time I did 😅) Thank you for that by the way!!
To give an even bigger nod to how creative Geoff can be, not only is he singing all of those parts, but he is also playing/programming everything you hear via midi keyboard and various plug-ins. He spends countless hours searching for just the right sound. For example, the "snare drums" in this are shovels in sand and mud. Also, his wife is his and VoicePlay's production manager. He/they are the actual producers.
The first of these three songs (Misty Mountains Cold) and the third (Song of Durin) were adapted from Tolkien's poems. This one is the exception: it was written by Ed Sheeran specifically for the movie The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Kathy was the producer and ran the lighting, but the latter was pre-programmed for her by Eli Jacobson of VoicePlay (who does most of the lighting for the group's videos.)
It's crazy how people can match poems or lyrics with music in unique ways. I used to try quite a bit writing songs but alas I don't have the talent 😥 However it is inspiring to see the work and dedication these people have to their craft.
It adds to the emotional impact of this song when you realize that 3 of the 4 dwarves singing this in Geoff's version do not survive the coming battle. Thanks for this reaction.
Thanks so much! Their community is so amazing and supportive I will keep bringing the content as consistently as I can ☺ Let me know of any other suggestions that you might have!
Fantastic reaction😊 If you want to see something just as awesome but a little spooky by him he did a cover of Ghost Riders In The Sky. It was one of his Halloween releases and had has his clones in the video.
I do believe I have that one written down already but I will definitely tag you when I get to that song which should be within the next week or so 😃 Thank you so much for your support!
Great reaction! This one is my favorite of the three videos he made in this series. I think it would be great if you reacted to the hearing loss video that Geoff has on his channel. I've only ever seen one person react to that video, which I think is a shame because not only is it an important topic (which is why they posted it), but it also gives a little insight on their history and what they are like as people. Geoff and Kathy present it in a way that isn't too heavy and is actually very inspiring, imo. The video actually had me smiling throughout as I watched it; Kathy seems like an amazing woman, and Geoff a wonderful husband. They make a great partnership (as people have mentioned, she is his/Voiceplay's production manager) and such a sweet couple.
You know what, I'm going to have to check that out! I really appreciate your suggestions, I'm always looking for new content to share. I just wrote down your username and the request. I'll get on it in the coming days and weeks 😃
His community is so amazing! I can see why they're so devoted and passionate. He's amazingly talented and he and his wife aren't signed to any labels. To me that makes it even more impressive and worth following!
@@eh...whatever9261 I'm also on his and Voiceplay's patreons. But not high enough to get my name at the end of the videos. But I'm happy where I am. I get great perks and my monthly amount helps them with their videos. Win win. My favorite perk is the behind the scenes videos. So much fun to watch and interesting to see what all goes into making a video. Filming alone takes them 7-18 hours depending on how much makeup and costumes they have on. Intricate makeup usually takes 2-3 hours per person. So a video such as "In The Hall of The Mountain King" and "Classical Chaos" for Voiceplay took 6 hours with 2 makeup artists. In The Hall of The Mountain King is an orchestra piece from the 1875 play Peer Gynt. VP sings the whole thing without singing a word. Classical Chaos is the sequel. They brought back the characters (Grundels) and did a medley of 12 classical pieces. Without words. But their acting in both told the stories.
Yes, this year he really took a beating with Thriller and Be Prepared one after the other. They’ve been keeping Rick pretty busy with all that make up.
Thank you for this reaction. Looking forward to seeing more of Geoff and of VoicePlay. You got it right about most of us, we can never get enough! They have so much talent!! However, I would like to say for yourself, pace yourself on making videos. I realize you are trying to build up your audience and channel, but please be careful about taking care of yourself. I’ve seen many people get burnt out and/or have family/relationship problems. It happens to the best of them. I say this only because I care. I do wish you much success. Please never lose the joy of it. xx 😊
Yes absolutely! I'm taking today off lol! I really enjoy these suggestions and I really have been amazed by the community that follow Geoff and VoicePlay. Supportive and offers information about the band themself. I really am grateful to everyone that participates on the channel 😊
Geoff has an impressive 5 octave range, and the ability to slide from the high side to subterranean. My favorite example is in the Viceplay cover of Oogie Boogie's Song.
This was written by Ed Sheeran for the movie and was not part of Tolkien‘s original works. I think the lyrics worked beautifully as does the score but it always seemed odd to me to hear it in his voice because dwarves have low voices and his is is more elflike in my opinion.😊 I’m sure many of us commented on the epic poems that Tolkien wrote. There’s a group that converted many of those poems by writing music to accompany it. I believe they’re all related and the name of them is Clamavi de Profundis. They’ve done a lot of those poems. I couldn’t find my Tolkien books when I decided to revisit H/LOTR so downloaded the audiobooks. There are a LOT of poems that I probably kind of skimmed over when I was reading it originally. I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in hoping he continues this saga since he already has the outfits. After all there’s the whole ring trilogy to go. When he recorded Misty Mountains Cold and 16 Tons we thought maybe he was doing a mining song trilogy since he followed it up with Big Bad John. But many of us were delighted when he went ahead and recorded this series. If you want a little more bass and want some variety, there is another group out there made up of four bass singers that met online during Covid and started recording and doing everything over the internet. The Bass Gang consists of two Americans, one Egyptian and one in the Czech Republic. They frequently collaborate with others and one of my favorites is still Centuries with Jonathan Young. They are still pretty new and and have not all met each other yet. Production values aren’t the same but they do well for a young group and having to do it all lung distance. Each of them also records solo projects. Lots of things for you to explore!
I'm really appreciating your reactions to Geoff's dwarven trilogy! He's an amazing singer and arranger, and for me, I See Fire is the best video on his channel - both for the arrangement, and for showcasing his range, with the 4 dwarves showing off their different ranges. One "group" I'd like to add to your playlist that I haven't seen mentioned is Pattycake Productions. It's a production company that is owned by Layne Stein, current beatboxer/baritone for VoicePlay, and Tony Wakim, former baritone in VoicePlay who decided he wanted to do more work behind the camera. Pattycake Productions is where many of VoicePlay's and Geoff's video are filmed, with their sets, costumes, and lighting setups. Pattycake uses a lot of Disney characters and settings for the start of their videos, and then takes them from there. They include a number of original songs, many written by Layne and Tony, and have just put out a new one called "Into The Storm", with Jessica Vosk from the Broadway production of Wicked singing the lead, in anticipation of the upcoming Wicked movie release. Many of their videos are released as a "series" - essentially continuing stories set to music. "Into The Storm" is from their "Evolution" series, showing how a character has changed from initial version to most current, and their work is definitely worth a look and a listen!
I just responded to another comment you left. I have written down your suggestion and I'm really looking forward to Pattycake Productions! The name sounds kinda funny but I know it'll be super fire! Thank you so much for your suggestions and I hope you come back for some more of the content to come! 😃

I wrote down your suggestions just now. There are no specific titles but I'm sure a quick search will lead me to all of your material suggested! Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you will return for future videos!
Tolkien, IINM, wrote 'Durins Song' and 'Misty Mountains.' This one was actually written by Ed Sheeran. Voiceplay's 'Nothing Else Matters' is a masterpiece. 'Creep,' 'Hell Fire,' 'Dream On'... so many great songs, too many to list.
Thanks so much for the information! It's astonishing to me turning those poems into songs. The ability to match the perfect sounds is always well appreciated by me. I don't follow Ed Sheeran too much although I do know he is a very talented artist as well. I might need to look more into him seeing as he contributed something so great to my favorite series 🙂
I have been getting more into my metal days lately as all the music sounds the same nowadays lol. I wrote your suggestion down and am looking forward to reacting here in the near future! 🙂 thanks a ton for your support and I hope you'll come back for future vidoes my guy!
While I love this version of I See Fire, my favorite will always be the one by Peter Hollens. I hope you can react to that and others by the man with the beautiful voice.
I am almost certain that that version is in my notebook somewhere but I wrote your suggestion down just in case and am looking forward to that. I am so glad for your support and engagement. I hope you stick around for the future reactions because this is such a fun experience 😊
I still struggle with the agonizing decision of if this one or Sound of Silence is my favorite Geoff solo song. Thanks for your reaction.
