If War Thunder's T-64A was historically accurate
Вставка

- The Soviet T-64 medium tank (main battle tank in practice) was an exceptionally innovative and complex design, though it was simultaneously temperamental. Issues with the engine, suspension, and autoloading system earned it a great deal of criticism (which would lead to parallel developments such as the T-72 and T-80). The T-64 would have been thrown in the trash altogether had the T-64A variant not greatly improved its overall reliability. Though the T-64A was accepted for service, it did suffer from some relatively minor issues which would be ironed out over time.

you forgot to add comrade
I mean it makes sense. IF usually isn't a question, the vehicle will break down at some point. Western designers generally went for and go for trying to increase time between whens, whereas Eastern designers generally aimed to just make the whens as little an issue as possible.
@@nuggs4snuggs516 And to be fair, so did the Westerners during World War II--one of the Sherman's greatest strengths was the strength of the US logistics system and the decision to stockpile very healthy amounts of spare parts!
@@InchonDM The Sherman (and American AFVs in general) are something of an exception. Chieftan has a wonderful video on this, but the short of it is that, whereas say, German or British tanks need to function several hundred miles away in Europe and maybe North Africa, American tanks need to function and be kept functioning thousands of miles away across oceans in the south Pacific, mainland China and India, Russia, North Africa, the Mediterranean, and Western Europe. If the Americans didn't have such competent logistics and such a vast stockpile of parts, well, Allied tanks wouldn't be able to function very well.
One of our teachers at high school served in the tank battalion in late 80s (czechoslovakia) as mechanic. His commander once told him: "If you need to get some tank spare parts for free, take a truck and follow column of our soviet allies." Because if their tank broke, soviets took the engine and replaced it with new one even though it was easy to repair.. Or some other major part of the tank... :D

Except for Shermans they can go 2000 miles atleast without a single repair
Benjamin Drew early models always have a lot of flaws
For most makes sense, it’s a very stressed part of the tank
it has to bear a load of a few tens of tons on a rough ground at speeds of 20-30-40 km/h, so it's not unexpected to have difficulties designing something that can do that.
If WT were historically accurate, then the T64-A would only meet Leopard-1 and M60.

1:40 for more historical accuracy whenever a soviet tank breaks down player should hear crew cursing in russian
1:10 ladies and gentelman. A factor that was better historically than in the game. This trully an epic gamer moment.
I've recently read book about the creation of T-72 (I think it is only in Russian) and there's a bit of history about T-64 and it just a mess. So the guys at the Kharkov bureau were adepts of the "revolutionary" progress i.e. making leaps in technology that allow to reach significant boost in characteristics. So they started creating new tank in 60s and people in ministry of defence were patronizing them and a lot of resources were allocated to them. So they make T-64 (with 115 mm gun) which is supposed to be produced in small series, as they were aiming for T-64A with 125 mm gun. But after they make it was discovered that new engine that they specifically made for this tank and which couldn't be used for civilian purposes thus making cheaper, was unreliable. So they have to solve this problem and end up producing much more 115mm T-64 than they were going to initially. But people at MoD were still patronizing this project. Then they decide to start production of T-64 in Nizhny Tagil (creators of T-62 and then T-72). But people there didn't want to and they had their own projects. There was a lot of drama going on and such episode as somebody made an order which according to its name would make them start production of T-64 but in the content it was pretty much said that they could make their own T-72.
Also worth mentioning that while guys at Kharkov were making their T-64 and then T-64A guys at Nizhnyy Tagil made T-72 in much shorter period so that it was ready for testing along with T-64A while having better suspension, reloading mechanism and well-known and widely available engine.
Unfortunately people in the top were prioritizing T-80 and T-64 so they were the first to get modern accessories
Honestly, the 64A really needs to be split into several vehicles based around production date owing to the number of changes they made throughout production. There are a lot of ways they could do it, but my preference would be a 1963 pre-production model with the 115mm gun, the 1964-1971 version we have in-game with the original turret, and a 1972-1975 model with improved armor and a 12.7mm machinegun and some other upgrades.
The halo 3 sound track suites these videos so much
This tank is quite unique in terms of costs with some cheap and some expensive. One heck of an odd tank indeed...🤔
This s the better video series i saw in your channel. Such a good work!

I'm not really sure how cramped the crew compartment of these tanks is. I've sat in an M-84A4 and honestly had no problem with it, and I'm 1,83m tall and fairly broad shouldered.
Now, it definitely is not a crew compartment where you can stretch out in or sit in for hours sipping tea, but for operational purposes, it's not that bad.
I refuse to believe that with that cramped interior that it has the 4-5 second reload it does in-game.

@Hussein yep germans had a box full of pumas
"T-64A has cramped interior, this decreases crew efficiency" but all they had to do is sit and clicking a buttons not moving around (like reloading the gun or something)
regarding t64 having high purchase cost, gaijin would fix this in future updates when they come across some sekret documents
Next episode; If Gaijin's War Thunder was historically accurate
Perhaps the engine have not good enough sparks heaters or intake manifold heat system for cold starts, also another cause of this problem are slow rotation speed during the start.
If war thunder was accurate. The crew bailing out to none penetrating hits, has a chance to suffer injuries to slight emotional events, in the case of a significant emotional event they normally all bail out even if not all are dead.
It depends on the guy tbh.
It would just make crew skills count for more

The T-64A in the game doesn't use the old turret with an aluminium filler which had the problem with large voids forming after being penetrated by AP shells.
He corrects himself later in the video
@@goddepersonno3782 This issue was addressed before 1973.
@@tankolad it still doesn't apply to the one in game
But it is something to note
@@goddepersonno3782 The T-64A in game uses high hardness steel inserts, not aluminium. I'm not sure what you are trying to say. The tank we have in the game doesn't suffer from the issue of penetrating AP shots forming voids.
T-64, great tank! If you have to time and money to maintain the SOB.
That being said the winter one is a common tank issue back then. Electric Block heaters weren't exactly common, so unless you had a fire ready to sit under the tank for a few minutes, you weren't going anywhere fast. Good thing is, Korea is the only place this was really a problem.

It is crazy how far ahead Soviet tank design was compared to Nato during the Cold War.
The fact that you can’t shoot bullets (50 cals especially) through the engine grate disturbs me.
