I never liked Bar Brookie. It was no Rovers Return or Queen Vic, was it? Although the parade was a much welcome expansion to the setting, they never quite figured out what to do with the units. Ron's shop was legendary, I'll give them that. But when the petrol station was built, they basically had two very similar shops serving the same function. Pizza Parade was alright, but again didn't provide a setting which offered anything really that different. I did used to love how Mick Johnson would be rushed off his feet if he had to cook two pizzas. The club was never much, it was just a place to dump Barry Grant and waste his character. And the unit which was Sinbad's shop here, never found a business which was of any significance to the show. It was just a place to have the odd explosion.
Mick and his love scenes give me the ick all the sloppy noises of kisses and to be honest hes a good looking bloke but he is a divvy when in a relationship he turns to a soppy melt
@@tonytucker7359 I agree. I think the storyline involving the mother’s illness was done quite well, but the whole family were irritating. Not just Cassie and the mother but Elaine and her daughter. The girl playing the daughter couldn’t act (neither could the 2nd Leo) and that added to it. What’s worse is they kept Cassie on after the mother had kicked the bucket and her sister had gone in the run.
Bar Brookie (14th February 1997 - Valentines Day) The Morning After (18th February 1997) Trying Too Hard (19th February 1997) Fancy Cheese (21st February 1997) Private Medicine (25th February 1997)
Bar Brookie was alright but took away some of the drama. It became a convenient place for stunts and reveals to take place which is a common soap trope. Preferred it when the drama took place in the houses.
Pubs and clubs in brookie weren't the lynchpin of the soap like they are in other soaps. Even Hollyoaks pub the dog in the pond is more of a focal point then la luz or bar brookie/Bevs bar ever was. I guess it had a brief focal point when callum finnegan arrived and Barry came back on the scene.
Bar Brookie was cr*p. It was open plan garish decor, staff in garish IKEA coloured uniforms and not much else. La Luz was a dive but had a certain atmos. The writers later introduced a restaurant called ‘The Shelf’ on top of a swimming pool🤔
Poor deluded Ollie facing up to how his blinkered way of living has destroyed the thing he held most precious …oh well. I absolutely refuse to watch that Cassie one.
@@spartybrearly7221 Never asked about Carl or Lee either. Just don’t ask about Sarah or her daughter whose name I can’t remember, that’s a bit of a sensitive topic.

Agreed. La Luz was a bit of a dive but vastly better than Bar Brookie.

Yep.
Cassie and her mum have to rank as two of the most irritating characters in television history.
@spartybrearly agreed I don’t know what Cassie brings to the show and her mother horrible

Cassie was nasty . Never liked her . Poor mick his loverly
Agreed, I can’t stand this Cassie character. This was beginning of Brookside’s decline when they started casting actors who couldn’t act.
@@filmsceneinvestigation EastEnders do the same. Laila Morse can’t act.

Elaine is a scary woman! Why would Mick put up with the angry overreacting!
Wouldn't be me anyway
Julia might become Terry"s step mum.
The kid that plays Tanya is an appalling actor!!! 😂
Bar Brookie is officially open(!)

@Cakes3958 I think bar brookie was a big mistake and really drained brookie of its intensity they had 15 years without the bar and 6 years with it

Spot on, all of you. Bar Brookie seemed to take centre-stage in everything for the show going forward. That, and the upcoming “Millennium Club”.

The Simpson family all go to the therapist.
Nat is gorgeous looking but such a annoying character
Nobody asks Mo how Rosie and Eddie are 🤔
Because nobody cared how they were 😅

Mentioning Corrie on Brookside, surprised.
Brookside was actually famous for mentioning other soaps, the soaps mentioned are Corrie,The Waltons,Prisoner:Cell Block H and Howards'Way.
11:53 Who knew Ron Dixon was so progressive?
What’s wrong with Mick Johno? Marrianne was nice josie was a laugh but Elaine why? She’s defo not micks type she’s hard as nails
You forgot Jenny 😂
That's right.Actually Mick should have run a mile from Jenny because she was seriously unbalanced and eventually held Mick at gunpoint.
Gobby as well
