This speaker is designed to reduce the maximum volume to about half (24) when the remaining built-in battery power becomes less than 10% in order to protect the circuit due to extreme voltage fluctuation by using at a loud volume. I found this in SRS-XB31 Sony's help guide. So maybe it is the same reason for SRS-XB12.
Yes it does This is also when the low battery warning light blinks. Only complaint i have is that it doesn't display the battery percentage in Bluetooth settings (my generic speakers i got along with a magazine subscription does it)
I personally didn't like the JBL and Bose speakers, but Sony has been my brand for years and when I bought the Xb12 speaker it didn't let me down, the bass is amazing and for a little guy like the Xb12 the sound is awesome.
XB12 > Go 2 XB22 < Flip 5 XB32 > Flip 5 XB32 < Charge 4 XB41 < Extreme 2 XB60 < Partybox 100 XB72 < Partybox 300 XB90 < Partybox 1000. Of course, XB90 and Partybox 1000 is not a fair comparison, but Sony doesn't offer anything bigger in it's XB lineup. I wrote SB 32 twice, because it's somewhere between the Flip 5 and the charge 4. I didn't write UE, 'cause all of these speakers are trash.
The xb10 has NFC while the xb12 doesn't. Still uses micro usb which would bother me if I didn't already carry a micro usb cable specifically to charge the xb10. Now I can use it for both lol.
Bought this sony srs xb 12 bluetooth speaker today at best buy for $34.99 it was on sale and my honest opinion it's cool it's about the size of a 8 ounce can of coke the sound is cool the bass is nice for a little speaker not the loudest but I think if you can get it on sale it's a great buy
any bigger than this, and it wont be portable anymore. sound is not very impressive, true. but it's in sweet spot between mobility and sound quality + nice bass.
Clip has better battery life. Clip last about 4 hours at full volume. Sony last like 2 hours but the volume goes to half when the battery is low. So you get like 1 and half hours at full volume. I would stick with jbl. Sony sounds better but that battery is what I dont like and that the volume goes half after 1 hour and half.
I hear the difference while using this speaker only thing it showed me was with a little tweaking with lets say a volume app it out performes all of thoses speakers
Great Vid as usual! Thanks for what you do - you nail it all the time. 🔥🔥🔥 .... some thoughts tho' Given the comparison you did - I would recommend saving a little and getting the XB20. The XB12 does not compare really. Other than that I must say - for what someone would be spending it really does not make any sense to spend this money on these small speakers. It is much better to spend a little more and get something like the Bose Soundlink Micro, the Beoplay P2, the MiniRig 1, 2 or 3 or the Vifa Reykjavik. These mini speakers have much better sound quality. The JBL offering is simply not comparable to any of the above speakers in sound quality. The reason anyone would have a portable speaker in their bag is that they value hearing their audio (music, TV, movies, podcasts etc.) with some quality. Otherwise, they would just rely on their phone speakers or just headphones only. So for this person to spend $50 on a substandard speaker is a real waste and a shame. They should steer clear of these bad and ineffective cheap speakers which are full of compromises and get something which his as small but has much less compromise. Great alternatives for not much more money exist. The Bose has all the ruggedness anyone would want in a small speaker (it is for taking with you after all) but soooooo much immersive and warm sound. It costs about twice as much as the Sony XB12, but that is going from $50-60 to $100-120. If it takes someone another 2 or three months to get there - it will be worth it. For the whole time they have the speaker, they will get quality sound every time they use it. Otherwise, if they buy a speaker which is not excellent from the start, they will spend the whole time they have the speaker having a compromised experience ….. for the cost of 2 or 3 months wait and an additional $50. For the audio experience they will get, it is worth waiting and getting something like this that is so much better than the XB12 or speakers like it. You did say that 50% volume on this speaker is not really usable most of the time and that 80% is a more realistic volume to use it at. I have had the XB01 and another Sony speaker. I liked them both very much but then discovered how much better the ones above are. Given the experience I have had, I bet that at 100% volume, the speaker delivers minimal bass and delivers quite a hissy distortion of the mids and upper registers. This is a brand-named-cheap-speaker. It provides a non-brand-subpar-listening-experience. Not worth the money as it does not deliver the expected brand-name sound experience. A SONY speaker should sound GREAT, not compromised. The XB20 is not perfect by any stretch, but it is much closer to a good immersive sound while retaining most of the portability of a personal speaker you can bring with you and use when you need it - indoors or outside. In fact, I might even suggest that people get the Sony XB32 instead of the XB20. The size is not so different, but the jump in immersiveness of the sound and power is significant. What do you think? The Beoplay P2 delivers bass filled warm sound with a lovely soundstage for its size - as all Beoplay speakers tend to do. It is about $150 but worth it for what you get out of it, and it is sometimes on sale for about $120. The MiniRig 3 is about the same size as the Sony (maybe slightly bigger) but will fill a room with rich, purposeful, broad sound and costs about twice as much. None of the JBLs can touch it. It can also be connected to a second, and a subwoofer added. That combination would challenge even the JBL Extreme 2 for sound quality at high or low volumes, even outdoors!! The Vifa Reykjavik is an excellent speaker which like the other three can be connected to another speaker of the same type to make a stereo pair. The sound is from Vifa drivers. Vifa have a reputation for producing outstanding drivers, and they don't disappoint here. They have even released new firmware which I am told makes the Vifa Reykjavik even better with better bass response. It is the only speaker amongst the 4 I have mentioned with a somewhat suspect bass response. The clarity of the mids and highs kind of makes up for it and with the new firmware the bass problem might just go away completely. This one, theXB12, HAS to sound compromised because it is small and cheap. It is expensive to engineer quality into a small package like that. Hence the price bump for the Bose, MiniRig, Beoplay and Vifa speakers of similar size. Again - simply not worth it. Even the Charge 3 or the Flip 4 are better by far. The sub $100, small speakers should be avoided as they simply do not deliver an acceptable sound experience for the money. The Bose, the Beoplay, MiniRig and the Vifa are the best examples of how you can make small speakers work and provide excellent sound I can think of … and if they can sometimes (not regularly) be found on sale. Let me add the Bose Soundlink Revolve onto that list - not the revolv+ as it is a bit less portable - I have the Bose Soundlink Revolve+, and I love it - I even have two of them - but the size of it will not work for everyone. Of course, you have the UE speakers also, but I don’t put them in the same class as the four I have mentioned. What do you think?
You might be right...but for me the Sony srsxb 43 is the best speaker..music sound and Bass are excellent 👌👍 last all day....l have one l paid 258..00 dollars at best bye two years ago... today you paid like 179..00 dollars at best bye
If I already got a Sony XB41 and I want a little speaker to use outdoor and go everywhere with it, should I buy a JBL Flip 4, a UE Wonderboom, a Sony XB22 or a Sony XB21? Take in consideration that it would be nice but not necessary to pair it with another Sony but I would also like to have a resistant speaker and Sony isn’t known for that.. This is why I am hesitant. So please! What should I buy?!
