"Damn are my eyes dry" they say; transition to black, end scene.
this game is literally "you must break the pattern today or the loop will repeat tomorrow"
I love how P1 and P2 IS and EP are a full trilogy with so many characters coming back. I wish that the newer age Persona games had even a sprinkle of this. (Outside of Ultimax)

Every thing I read or see about Baofu makes me think he'd be a memetic icon if this game was more widely popular back in its time.
Sharing a tidbit of lore I remember from interviews with the Demon Artist himself, Kazuma Kaneko
So even Katsuya’s ambition to become a pastry chef comes from Tatsuya. He was making donuts for him as a kid and it was the first time he really managed to connect with him with all the messiness of their family life.
It is SO WHOLESOME it’s just amazing, Katsuya is such a cuddly dork beneath his amazing suit.

Aww it seems you didn't include the Tatsuya scenarios in the video! They're playable side segments from the PSP port where you follow Tatsuya's side of the story before (and a bit after) he joins the party and they have some of the best writing in the game imo. It explores his angst and internal struggle with Nyarlathotep in more details. Plus there's a sweet plotline where he bonds with a police officer named Shiori who's been sheltering him while he's running away from home. Shiori's brother Takaya was also one of Tatsuya Sudou's murder victims on This Side, replacing the Alaya Shrine incident from the Other Side.
In the side story, we also meet the Suou brothers' dad who's very much alive, he's just not involved in the main plot. And then the final part is this crazy dungeon crawl through an eldritch tower where you battle eldritch abominations to save Shiori who's been demonized. This part of the game confirms that the world of P2 takes place in the same universe as the Cthulu Mythos stories and has you interacting with original Lovecraft characters lol. These side stories made Tatsuya my fav Persona protagonist by a long shot because it depicts his internal turmoil so well.
One of the greatest rpgs of all time. Tsumi and Batsu represent amazing character development and story. And it is all so very punishingly dark. So slept on.

As someone who was in their 20s when playing Eternal Punishment, I loved playing the game. While the rest of the Persona games are truly great, it was so refreshing to play one with mainly all ADULTS. I was really able to relate with the mature plot and characters of Eternal Punishment, and I think that it not revolving around high schoolers helped.
Anywho, great video, Courtney! I look forward to the next one!

Awesome recap! It's so cool how interwoven the plot is with not just Innocent Sin, but also with Persona 1
First of all, excellent video and I love your channel! Second, I don’t think it will happen, but I do wish they would make another Persona game featuring a mostly adult cast. It has the potential to tell a lot of really cool stories. You could still have social bonds like in modern Persona games but you would just spend the day at work instead of school. Then you’d go hang out and fight shadows. Probably won’t happen because the school life stuff is so popular (I do like it myself) but I think it would be nice for Altus to change things up!
1000% this is like my dream set up for a Persona 6, could take a similar approach to P5 and start out with a few coworkers joining together to sort out a corrupt/evil higher up in the company. would also be so fun to see like an office janitor confidant story or something. just a lot of avenues they could explore while still having that slice of life/day to day feel

It is interesting to see how the older Persona games played out story wise, a bit surprised by the lack of "You literally fight god (or close to it) at the end" like with the later titles.

That Cats & Dogs movie fucked me up back in the day. The dogs or maybe the kid almost get lit on fire, it was a lot for 5 or 6 year old me. Love your videos, tremendously underrated.
A shame mainline SMT doesn't normally have much to offer as story goes, because I feel like it'd be a riot were you to recap it.
It has at least Strange Journey (not Redux) and SMT4 in that department.
