    As a girl born and raised in Florence and the hills surrounding it (but now living in beautiful Gent, Belgium), I just adored the description of Italian driving customs, so true. I'm a very diligent driver here in Belgium, but my Italian blood never fails to bring back my killing driving skills every time I set foot in my home country

    • @SuitcaseMonkey
      @SuitcaseMonkey  5 років тому +1

      Haha. I’m glad you said that. I was nervous putting that in because it’s never possible to group a whole country as one type of person but even as a joke I wanted to mention my personal experience. So glad you reacted to it fondly! We will have a Bruges vlog later this year. Hopefully you’ll enjoy that one too!

    Thanks for all the tips. I like how you give tips to help viewers by giving us the good and the bad on each places. Rather than making everything look good and perfect you give us a good idea of what to expect and help us save time incase we visit these places. Thank you and i hope you channel blows up as it will help alot of travellers out there.

    My first time in Italy I was travelling with a friend who was trying to watch what he ate and be mindful of calories. It was starting to be a drag since we were also in Tuscany. By the third day, I just looked at him and said, "what kind of an idiot goes on a diet in Italy." That pretty much snapped him out of it fortunately. Something as simple as basil, tomatoes and olive oil tastes like ambrosia in Italy. The land and the sun make everything absolutely delicious. I ate mozzarella di bufalla and gelato almost every singe day. Just walk every where, especially the hills and you'll be fine. Eat everything in Italy! Diet at home!

      😂😂😂😂😂To visit Italy & be on a diet is a crime!!! Sooo much good food no matter which small town or big city you visit 💯💯!!!! So glad to have visited pre-covid19 pandemic!!!

    Very nice Vlog! Having lived in Italy I'd like to say something about the parking challenge, that is, unless you are an expert local motorist, trying to park towards the center of town is an exercise in futility. This is compounded by the fact that you have to navigate mostly one way streets and "denial of transit" rules for cars not domiciled in the area you are in. So my advice is, don't even try. Plan to park outside of the center of town, including convenient municipal parking areas. From there, plan to walk, take a bus or call a taxi if necessary, to get you to where you want to go. Cheers and keep posting you great vids!

    Hey, everytime I drive to Florence I also park at the Coop and take the "tramvia"! Smart move & good tip. They also sell super cheap Daily Family tickets for max 4 persons, good all day for the tram and buses too.

      Parking at Coop supermarket and leaving the car all day there is not a civilized habit. That parking place is for customers only and not for tourists. What would you think if tourists would park their car in your local supermarket parking place?

    Another nice video you pack plenty in. Hope its ok to add that Siena is famous for the Palio horse race run every July & Aug in its medieval square "Il Campo". Its a real spectacle (See start of James Bonds Quantum of Solace) for the horse race, flag waving parades and street partys (latter held night of the general trial, the night before main event) although my advice is to watch the trials held 2-3 days before the actual race which its crazy busy. There is free parking in huge car park by city walls as well as v expensive parking. Also If you ever go back to Tuscany please dont miss the beautiful city of Lucca with its wonderful piazzas, churches, the walk round the city walls, botanical gardens and its also host to "Lucca Comics and Games" every Oct or Nov the 2nd biggest Comic festival in the world.

  • @GaryWalshDublin

    Nice video. I would add that you generally need to book a time slot to climb the tower at Pisa. Also I have been to Pisa 3 times and I think half a day is more than enough. The most interesting thing about it is the tower area. There are many better places in Tuscany to spend the other half of you day.

    Lots of great stuff in a short amount of time. You've a good eye for composing within the frame and for color and use of natural lighting. Because there's so much to see in your quality cityscapes, panoramas and food, may I suggest leaving 1 second more in those scenes. I had to stop the video a few times for all that was there to see. Still 6 days in one video, all in all, quite worthy.

Parking is always the most stressful part when driving in Italy aside from the 90* turns in the roads, so now we stay a few days in a town and then take the train to nearby towns. Thanks for the info on the tram...that is new for me. Thank you again for a great Tuscan video!

      One more question: Is it difficult to travel to Japan if you don't speak Japanese at all? I'm thinking that it must be agonizing to get around on trains, ordering food and so on. Even when it's translated, the long names of places sometimes confuses me.

    We really enjoyed your video and was done very well. We are taking a Mediterranean cruise and we get off the ship in Venice. We will make our way to Florence and then pretty much follow your route. Instead of spending 4 nights in Florence where should we stay to break up our day trips to the various towns? Where would you stay if you did this all over again. Would you think it would be hard to find hotels along the way if we kept driving and not back tracked? Thank you from Florida.

    Hi there!! My husband & I are to going to Florence/Tuscany next month. We both love to drink wine & its a must for us to do wine tasting in Tuscany. Our plan is to go first in Florence, will stay for 3 days then drive to Tuscany & stay for 3-4 days. My question is do you think it’s better for us just to take the day trip tour to visit Tuscany area & do the wine tasting & stay a bit longer in Florence OR it’s a must that we have to drive in Tuscany & stay there? Hope u can give me advise. thank you! 😊

    That was really helpful and entertaining presented. I am planning a few-days-trip to Tuscany in September this year, being on my own and looked for some recommendations. Since I spent many years ago a university semester in Siena, I would like this time so see some more spots in the countryside. So, considering a temporary car and take maybe two different hotels, might be a good way to choose. Mabye, to safe money for food and other things to see, I might take an unexpensive overnight accomodation somwhere in the countryside but still looking for addresses.
    Anyway, thanks for that nice video.

    Hi Paul. Love your editing, that's hard work! My daughter and I have a channel and as someone who spends a lot of time editing I had a couple q's. I also use FCPX and love it. 1. your intro, how'd you make it, any special software? 2. Music. I mostly use Kevin MacLeod. Where do you source your great music? Are you monetized? 3. How did you manage the hand drawing on the italy map? I'm creating a video now on the fastest way to Pandora's Flight of Passage, without the long waits, thus the map question. 4 Sound FX source? I find stuff free online but find the libraries lacking what i need often. Thanks for any help, and again amazing work!

    • @SuitcaseMonkey
      @SuitcaseMonkey  7 років тому +4

      Hi there! Here goes: 1. I use FCPX too! How did you know I use it? 2. I get all my music from the UA-cam audio library, some of which are from MacLeod. 3. There may be a better way but I used an Apple Pencil and Procreate for the drawing. I screen recorded my iPad whilst drawing on the map and then sped it up. I don’t usually use sound FX but when I do it’s from either FCPX or UA-cam’s library again. Hope that all helps!

    • @LifeofBrighton
      @LifeofBrighton 7 років тому

      Thanks Paul for the great and quick reply! As I appreciate more of your videos, I hope I can ask again, and maybe again. Btw discovered your channel as a suggested video, while i was looking up the mysterious Disney Society of Adventurers and Explorers. One of the attractions linked to the interwoven Disney backstory that spans continents and several parks is the Fortress Exploration at Tokyo DisneySea. Other rides and attractions linked to this is Mystic Manor at Hong Kong Disney and HighTower of Terror at Tokyo Disney. If you want to see more, here's a cool link. attractionsmagazine.com/story-behind-sea-disneys-society-of-explorers-and-adventurers/ . While i was watching one of the inbeded youtube videos, yours came up as suggested on the side. I loved that One Day guide! I immediately identified with skip Toy Story Mania if you have ridden it already, and see other other cool things. I am amazed at your VO script and how well organized you went about laying out the video. I know bc I make these things, that was impressive. Thanks for making these videos. Martin. P.S. Oh and I knew it was FCPX because someone had asked in your comments and you had replied. I also recognized some of the titles. P.SS i need to take a closer look at the library music library, you found some great music. And I need to look up screen recording ipad whilst drawing, brilliant! When i finish the Pandora video, I'll send you the link, kay?

    Oltre che al centro a Firenze ci sono tanti altri posti magari tipo più in periferia belli da visitare

    Very well made video 👍. The places you went are all quite away from each other like Malta to Tuscany to Greece. How do you manage to travel so much , yet staying at good properties?

      Hi thank you. Sorry I don’t really understand the question. I mostly book through Secret Escape, Voyage PRIVE and Booking.com which helps with good deals. And I’m based in London so these locations aren’t too far away. Hope that helps?

      @@SuitcaseMonkey thank you ☺️. Why did you choose these places rather than doing whole is southern Italy. And how long was a trip. Actually I am planning to go Europe for around 12 days but am undecided which places to visit

    • @SuitcaseMonkey

      Malta Tuscany and Greece were all separate holidays over the course of about a year. As for Tuscany we stayed central and then visited places that were within an hour or two of that location. I’m not sure if you watched the videos but I talk about this in the Tuscany video. Also, the length of the trips are in the videos as well

    Yes, that was “a” statue of David but not “the” Statue of David. It might have been useful to clarify that. And who would pick up their wine glass like that?
