  • How To Adjust Valve Clearance. You can do it cold. But i would recommend hot.
    Valve Clearance Hot:
    Intake: 0.020 mm (0.008 in.)
    Exhaust: 0.030 mm (0.012 in.)

    Driftking69ify There is actually a computer plug coming off of the distributer that is capped. in the manual it is for tuning, but i used that and a flat pin like you would find on some home speakers and crimp it on the wire and it worked perfectly for my tachometer. PS @84hachi does this stuff also apply to the 3AC because everything i have watched you do is on my 3A 1985 Tercel. I am really looking forward to doing the secondary spring flip mod and then do the vacuum delete. mine idles roughly now with vacuum lines on and such. i have close to 200k miles on it. 4-speed manual.

    The ones that don't need adjusting have a valve train that cant be adjusted. The ones that do should be done accordingly. Valve clearances should be adjusted at every 30,000 mile mark. According to my service and owners manual's.

    We need to occasionally check and adjust valve clearance because these components wear slightly with use and the clearance may fall out of the specified range resulting in extra wear (not enough clearance) or lost performance and noisy engine (too much clearance).

    What is the layout of the valves? Which ones are intake and which ones are exhaust?

  • @84hachi
    @84hachi  11 років тому

    Yea.

    Your valve train will start making noise. Then could get worse.

      It's inside the distributor.

    I drive an AE82 4 door FWD and really love the car even though it only got 77 hp. I know very little about engines but this got me real excited seing an ae86 AND a 4AC in the same video. Just found out people seem to like this engine for mods which is awesome. Coffee is ready and I'm gonna have an awesome youtube fest all night :)
    Btw, is it bad for the engine to rotate the crankshaft CCW? (noob warning)

    after I followed your steps and I set the clearance (.008 intake, and .012 for exhaust)
    and now it runs smoother but their is a tick sound, any thoughts to what's causing it?? great video helped a lot!!

      Make sure that its tight. I didn't tighten it enough the 1st time and it sounded like a diesel.

    If you don't adjust the valve clearance in what way does it effect the peformance of the vehicle?

  • @ayske1
    @ayske1 14 років тому

    i notice this is stated in my manual for 80,000 and 90,000 on my 7AFE 98 corolla
    what are the dangers of this not being done?

  • @ayske1
    @ayske1 14 років тому

    @84hachi Is it possible for some cars to never have to have the valve clearance adjusted. Would you say there's really no interval as to when they need to be adjusted?

  • @84hachi
    @84hachi  12 років тому

    Tighten the lock nut more.

  • @HalfKaztBoy
    @HalfKaztBoy 12 років тому

    Ok I just the valve clearance according to the manual book. And now it sounds like a diesel engine... where did I go wrong?

    I really hope that's not a torque wrench on the crank bolt.

    You need them in a specified thickness. I have the thicknesses listed in the description.

    Relax. It was spare that a friend gave me. Broken so I modded it as a large ratchet.

  • @azan97

    not enough of compression maybe it is because of your piston rings.

    I do not see the point doing an engine swap on something that is perfectly running. As for the CCW. Yes if an engine is doing that on its own. If off and your doing it. I wouldn't is all I'll say.
