    for all the talk of trust, this dog is always tethered to a leash. Is it ever free of it or is the dog not trained that well?

    this is bullshit why are you using the same box? change up boxes! she is looking for that same box i doubt she is really sniffing out anything

      Deion Ford when teaching this you want to use the same box. That is were the " scent " is.

    • @jayb8391

      Deion Ford I agree with you. I have my dog search for his toys in different place. His toy have been in many other location already... He can still find the fresher scent right away.

    Can you teach a dog to sniff out anything? Like minerals in the sand? The reason I asked is because rumor has it that you can take your dog to the mountains and teach them (or you've already taught them) to find minerals in the dirt and rocks, like maybe quartz. Have you heard of this and if not, is it possible?

    you used the same box so it wasn't no challenge for her at all smh.

    • @MaddiRinguette
      @MaddiRinguette 8 років тому

      in scent detection, the same box is always used. this is because if, theoretically, she put the scent in every single box, they would all be "contaminated" with the scent. to the dogs, all the boxes would smell like the scent, and, unless the dog was a working-level pro, would have a hard time differentiating them all.

    • @tcash3389
      @tcash3389 8 років тому

      that don't even sound right

    • @strikeforcek9149
      @strikeforcek9149 6 років тому

      @@tcash3389 - The boxes are supposed to be identical and the article/scent visually hidden. This way, the dog cannot rely on the sight of the article or by simply looking for a specific box by sight.
      Ie- wooden boxes that are identical, and each box has its own scent signature (if you move the scent from box to box, you're going to contaminate each box and they'll all have the scent signature in them).
      Once too get passed this point and the dog can successfully indicate 20 out of 20 everytime you switch the boxes around, then you can start muddying up the scent signature by contaminating other boxes here and there, forcing the dog to indicate on the box with the strongest scent signature. This is where is gets much more complex for the dog. Then, after they can reliably get 20 out of 20 successful indications near everytime, you can start muddying up the waters even more by adding in things like coffee grounds, other scents, and etc WITH the scent signature/article. This begins teaching and forcing the dog to filter through other scent signatures to hone in on the particular signature they need to indicate on. Etc etc etc.
      But, you're correct. The box needs to be visually identical to the others in order to actually teach true detection and indication skills. But, starting out, you may want to just get the dog interested in learning to stick their head into the box and finding the object/article, THEN slowly phase into the above by adding more and more level of difficulty.

  • @jayb8391
    @jayb8391 7 років тому

    That is obviously not professional training. Same box and search only for food. If the dog doesn't find it, we put the excuse on something else... You can associate food with a specific item and then reward with food. But not reward with food for finding food... It is not a sent tracking... It is find the food game. Change the pattern all you want but dog can recognize shape. Same box over and over...
