Gabe, ‘My brain is basically Mountain Dew flavored mush at this point’ is my all-time favorite line from any of your videos. It could also read as my current status across a variety of platforms and devices.
Off topic, but I LOVE that drink! It's about the only fizzy juice drink left in the UK still full of "natural" sugar since the sugar tax was introduced here in about 2018. Not only does that mean it tastes better (to combat this "sugar tax", drink makers decided to reduce the regular sugars and then mix with roughly the same sorts of aspartame/Neutrasweet chemicals as in diet/no-sugar drinks. This means they don't taste as nice as they did pre-2018!), but it's also useful for diabetics when we need a REALLY sugary drink to brink us back from low blood sugars.
Very cool to see you were in the neighborhood! The escape room at the bunker actually goes on in areas that are actively used by the museum, just after hours (unless they changed it recently). I'd recommend people try it out as its quite a fun one. Having gone through the museum a couple of times, it really is one of a kind and worth sharing in a video. It's a pretty well kept secret in the national capital region! On certain days of the month, guys from the local ham radio club are there too.
It's a group effort :-) Those aren't even the main point of the property, the owner just wants to dig tunnels so he lets us do other dumb things with the "useless" surface land!
No such thing as junk. Love the theme of this thing you doing. People don't realise how much potential is in the things being thrown away, unused, or considered worthless, just rusting away. I mean, to an extent, it's good for those who do understand it lol for less competition and much lower price.
Just remember to check to make sure you can still fit the dish parts inside BEFORE you finish putting the dome together! Would suck to have it all together and find out the pieces of the dish don't fit through the door! A cool trick you should try once it's together is to lay down on the ground with your head exactly in the center of the dome and start playing low frequency tones like for meditation.
I had the opportunity to go inside a massive dome with an 85-foot parabolic inside. It was uncanny how fast that thing moved! One of the coolest things I've ever seen.
I was out in Ottawa in July and saw the Diefenbunker. Highly recommend the guided tour... the guy that does it used to work in the bunker and he's full of stories.
You do such cool stuff. I really enjoy your videos. You are great at explanting what you are doing so I get to lean new things about a tech field I have never experience. Thanks for all your hard work at making these videos.
"we should finish the projects we already have, like the Playland, before we bring in new projects. But that's just that's just not the Sandland way!" I know the feeling. Amazingly awesome the new projects however. Really cool and I too look forward to installing all of my listening and monitoring station systems.
Well cool will be interesting seeing you erect this ray dome and your progress with it ,awesome video always wondered what these things were for ,thanks .
As a former Minnesotan and super into the stuff on your videos and former sandland peeps...basic my wife and I love these and want to visit since we're not too far away. An observatory would rock!
THE D O M E . In all seriousness you should definitely do a video/s on the radio observatory and the adjacent bunker, I'm honestly more impressed by the source than the dome itself.
Hi Gabe, This is your most amazing video to date! Looks like you got a nice big C-band antenna too. I can't wait to see what you do with that Geodesic Radom, I know it'll be cool. As for Canadian Tire you had me ROTFLMAO! Here is Canada we call that place Crappy Tire and you know why LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My neighbor bought one back in the 1990s...never got farther than roughly laying out the base ring on the ground. I think all of the pieces are still laying out 30 years later.
I think it's pretty neat to imagine you travelling home in a U-Haul with this, and you passing through just a couple hours south of me too (north of the Sault). However, I don't envy the long-haul trip in that cabin. I did that recently over a ~2500KM drive and I NEVER, EVER, want to do that again, especially with three people and a lack of cruse control. Also, my Canadian Tire, while low-end for my community, saves me from having to drive down to the Sault most times so it's good for something 😋
There is a inflated geodesic dome station in southern Germany, the Raisting transmitter facility. The dome there has a 49m diameter. I should consider visiting it in the near future, since it is open to public by now.
I can't wait to see this thing in action, good find! Im studying cisco networking, this would be a great edition to my lab. All virtual machines and a giant telescope lol
My grand-father was an electrical engineer at the NORAD radar on Mount Apica, Quebec, Canada There was an other one on Mount Ste-Marguerite, St-Sylvestre-de-Beauce...now called Mont Radar The bunker is still there and you can rent it for events, its private now
On the globe you showed there was one little ray dome you showed in ireland, i saw that one in real life! (I think it was a ray dome for sure but i cant be sure if its time same one on the map)
So jelly! You can buy pallet racks super cheap. Just assemble a cube and weld it up! You can put your Dome on top, you'll never have to worry about snow! The reverb really changed when you got in front of that dish. So what's next, Doppler?🤞
Canadian Space Services..??😂 That just hits the ear weird. That’s pretty awesome that the head of the facility set you like that. Nice to see there are still decent humans in the world. You get all the cool toys!🎉. It’s pretty how you brought it home. I found a 10’ Parabolic satellite dish in Minnesota for basically $10. I wish I still had it in me to travel across the country to bring my fund home. Well done. I look forward to your video on that facility. With that kind of access, you’ll have one hell of a documentary.
BTDT … 10 years ago, for an event drove a radome through the country. Looked exactly like the one you have, espcially the connections … The assembly for four days was terrible, it was cold, snowing and windy and on top of a building. I think your sandland would be a place I would enjoy too. '73
I see you got the authentic Canadian tire experience. Cant wait to see you build the dome.
Aka crappy tire
i am Canadian and its well known here that if you ever got something to return, may god be with you, because you gonna need it!
yeah thats about how all of em are aside from like melfort, saskatchewan
only Canadian tire i've had good quality products from
These videos are getting better every time - the channel progress is amazing!
Please do a dedicated bunker video!! Would be so cool!
How about a collaborative bunker build with Colin Furze?

2024 - The year that saveitforparts picked up a decommissioned Nuclear Submarine.
I mean you can't say no to that. Just think of the escape room that would be.

Wish I would have known. Could have helped you with the hardware issues.
Sorry! I kept it a little on the down-low aside from a few people I knew in the area.

You're my chill and relax channel.
When you are awesome, your channel can’t help but be awesome as well.
Your channel remains the most interesting on my subscriptions list for reasons like this!
The dude at the border was like "why was it so cheap?" like he's some connoisseur of geodesic domes and know how much they should cost.
I think he was just jealous, he probably wanted one at home but couldn't afford to buy it new 😂

Good route selection, 401 through Toronto is a nightmare, and the border agents at detroit are not as kind as at SSM. You drove through my town.
I started watching this for your do-it-yourself train thingy, last year.
I had NOOO idea what I had gotten myself into with this channel.

Seeing those BUDs makes me smile... they'll always have a special place in my heart (and maybe my wish list to find one again!)
So cool. Excited for the follow up
EXITED!!!!! truly the content youtube was designed for.
Exactly: interesting places and things!
What a sweet feel! And I love our guy in the tie-dye T-shirt!
So jealous! I remember going to see the Mitchell Park Domes as a kid and I've been fascinated with geodesic domes ever since.
Appreciate how your brain works…a million creative projects poppin’ off all the time!
The problem is I have way more projects than time to actually do them!
That is a lot of work ahead just prepping a site to set the dome up ! Yes, I think there is at least 3 videos on that coming. Great find !

I was out in Ottawa in July and saw the Diefenbunker. Highly recommend the guided tour... the guy that does it used to work in the bunker and he's full of stories.

What a great score and gift!
These were always referred to as "golf balls" at a site I was stationed at in the U.K.
Hope I can move back home to Minnesota soon... it's so beautiful

See if you can find one in the Rome NY area.
I saw it one night when I was taken to the site.
It was huge
I'd LOVE to see you buy a small barge to put the dome on, and tracking equipment
CSB I once tried to buy a barge (floating bar/club thing), it was super cheap but no one would let me park it at their dock 😢/CSB
I love how the border patrol guard is some expert in geodesic dome pricing
You're a madman. Also, "some assembly required." 😂 Cheers.
