Dr. Mandell ... After a year of dealing with neck discomfort and annoying pain I'm finally feeling significant improvement. I have been doing all your neck exercises daily. I tried different methods, acupuncture, physical therapy and others...Your techniques are helping me...Thank you..
I just did this for my sprained neck and I felt an immediate relief after staying in this position for a good 15 minutes with my neck down the bedside. Thanks again Dr.Mandell!
This was the very first video I saw from Dr. Mandell and definitely gives me relief in my neck. I just ordered the Over door Neck traction device, now I know it needs to be done facing the door. Great information doc! Thanks a lot for your time and help
Thank you Dr. Probably much better than what a physical therapist taught me, but useful also. Even standing let the head drop forward. Place a couple of fingers where you showed at the base of both sides of the skull. Then push forward and down with a little force; probably to make up for the force of gravity in your method. Do this for a few seconds each time, if it feels better to do more than once. This does offer a type of "emergency" help if one of your traction efforts can not be done at the time. Thank you again for all your help.
Doc i wish i could shake your hand personally i really do, this advice has helped end over three weeks of pain for me. I tried this straight after watching it, i've had no pain now for nearly for hours. Its amazing how much this technique helped me. i'm not even sure i believe it myself yet how well it worked, its almost like i'm waiting for the pain to start again but so far it has'nt. Thank you.
My years as a dental hygienist wreaked havoc on my neck. A part of a cervical vertebrate actually snapped while cleaning a patient's teeth! Eighteen years later, I have a cervical herniation, stenosis, spondylosthesis and paralyzing constricture...on the worst days I cannot do the toilet paper routine if you get my drift! How much pain can one widow take? I sure appreciate you and your videos, Doctor 💕
Amazing technique for those who have not had surgery, a really great spine exercise, at times due to years and years of extreme discomfort i have felt like if I could get rid of my head due to severe pain I would have, unhappy at how I wasn’t getting good sincere help, until now thank you 🙏 dr Mandell, my happiness is shining through with these exercises for good health 🙏
Dr.mandel seriously you are always great always coming forward with the specifications of the whole thing & of how long it takes to do it right & save us I really appreciated your humanitarian work in helping others in suffering , thanks .
Thank you so much Dr. Mandel yes I will do this and I have one of those tables were I can strap in a lift my body completely upside down I wonder if that would be good too I will do them both I have the long massage table too so I really do appreciate your help thanks God bless you🥰🙏💕
Thank you for your wonderful information. I'm a masseur. I'm gently using the neck lift(traction) for patients. In order to reduce pressure on the nerves... I'm afraid of the neck(Tak)🔨💢.
I work all day with my head down and I have 4 herniated discs in my cervical area. I have seen all your videos and you advise to do the opposite of it and had worked very good for me. You have been my real pain relief But this exercise concerns me about the position. Please advise. Thank you
I thought flexion should be avoided with bulging/herniated disk condition. It is said to make it worst. Would love to hear thoughts of others around this.
Dear doctor friend. I have very estem for you, because you have joying to try to help people. You are fantastic person . You are very CARE people. Also, you have very estim too for the people . . I am american too but i am portuguese too, from at european, My Englis is not to good. Its s nice iyou have transletter at the b.
Hi Doctor I have a cervival artifical disc on my C4-C5, damaged C3-C4 and C5-C6,can I perform this exercise. I have been following you for months and I practice your other techniques daily, thanks to you my pain has reduced drastically. Hope you could share your insight about the do's and don'ts for those who have artifical disc implants. Thank you so much for the video's.God Bless.
Good to know, specially for a personal fitness coach. Although is not my area it plays an important role on how should we properly rest and even the form of some exercises :)
Thanks for the great videos Dr. Mandell I had been working out for 20 yrs Started with weights now I only do Calisthenics ,at the moment I'm working on a rotator cuff ,posterior Deltoid Strengthening exercises . Yesterday I got a Trap -Neck spasm really painful would you be able to add some strengthening Exercises also for this muscles Please ...Best Regards
Thank you for your help. I would like to know if you would be able to offer some help with ringing in the ears. I went and had a massage therapist work on my scm muscle and I found that when he was done working on the one side of my neck the ringing in my ear on that side had become significantly reduced. I am finding that your videos are not only very interesting but at the same time, incredibly helpful. Hope to hear from you soon. Darlene
i have got an X-ray and it shows normal cervical curve,I'm suffering from pain in my neck and mid back... currently doing your lay back hanging your head from the edge..seeing a little improvement..thanks
A little late to respond. X-rays screen only hard stuff the spine bones not the disc, nerves and spinal canal. It's not very reliable for full picture what's going on. Do some nuclear magnetic reosonance to view all spine structures. If you care indeed.
HI there, From X-ray, I have mild reversed lordosis centered C5 that could reflect muscle spasm. Right now in pain. I just got recently diagnosed. And there is moderate degenerate disc narrowing at C5-C6, C6-C7. Mild foramen narrowing left C3-C4, C5-C6. I am about to see a physician for further assessment. I tried this exercise out and it's a slight painful - i'm not going hard. Should I talk to my physician and chiropractor about this exercise and neck decompression on whether I can do those yet.
Would love to know if this exercise would help or hurt pain from the occipital nerve. Had a nerve block and am scheduled to ablation in a month. Would love to avoid that procedure. Pain around the head and behind the eyes was getting me down.
Hey doc! Can you recommend an exercise for eye strain issues? I'm not sure which muscles are causing the eye strain, but I'm almost certain it's muscular. I also have pain in the occipital region and traps when applying pressure there. Thanks so much!!
Dear Doctor, Could this help to alleviate thoracic outlet syndrome and especially nerve ulnar's pain ? I thank you in advance for your thoughts. Best regards
Doc… I have a question… My cervical vertebrae are not curved, they are straight. My neck pain at the base of my skull is killing me. My chiropractor told me never look down words as a stretching exercise. What do you think?
I feel this is better alternative void pain! what in case if you sleep at night with this position? Seriously with some bed adjustment or entire bed slightly decline position
Hi, I'm 48 years old mom, just did an MRI of the spine/neck. The results are disc bulge at c3-4, c4-5, c5-6 and c6-7. Could you tell me what could cause it? What should I do now? Can I keep exercising? What shouldn't I do? Thanks for the reply. RT :-)
Hello Dr. Mandell i suffer from a chronic hands and fingers pain .I have a minimal disc bulge at C4-C5 level when i got my first mri results back in 2012. However, in 2015 i had a car accident, i was rear ended by car causing whiplash and neck and shoulder pain. after the crash, I had my 2nd mri and it showed a minimal disc bulge and straightening of the normal cervical lordosis. This month i had my 3rd mri test, and the results came different with 2 more small disc herniations in C3-4 and C5-C6 which results in pain and tightness on my neck shoulders muscles, and a straightening of the normal cervical lordosis. So doctor do you think the loss of cervical curve has affected my discs and lead to herniations? and how i can restore my neck curve?
Dr. Mandell has given video after video of things to alleviate neck, shoulder injuries. What a gift. Just try them, you may be surprised what it will do. I got into a major trampoline accident that torqued my shoulders, neck and jaw and in time cracked most of my teeth. My thumbs are always in pain also. I was a singer and lost my voice due it. I'm definitely going to try everything that he's shown to us. I just recently started yoga classes and just the week or so that I have been doing them as improved my posture and my voice is coming back. I can't wait to add dr. Mandel's suggestions. Love it. Life is a miracle and thank you Dr. Mandel.
Thank you, Dr. Mandell. You have a lot of very useful exercises. I have just watched the Most Important exercise for neck pain where you show a head stretch back with a towel. As far as I understand, the stretch back with a towel helps with neck pain that stems from having the head forward a lot (like when sitting at the computer). But this particular exercise with traction uses the stretch forward. Is it still useful for people with pain stemming for having the head tilted forward all the time anyways? I'm just trying to understand the mechanics of it. And if it is useful, can these two exercises be combined in a set (let's say do both of them after you wake up or before going to bed?). Should any other exercises be added into a set to get maximum relief for constant chronic neck pain? Thank you.
doc...i ve generative disc diease in c4 and c5....can i do this traction? i love ur videos...n it really helps me....just wanna thank you v much.....i m from singapore
Hi, just found out I have 2 bulging discs on nos 1 and 2 in my neck.. I've been doing this but on my back should I be doing this one?.. I also have a forward chin which I think the other one was helping? Would it hurt to do both? Thanks so much love your videos 👍

I'm amazed - really helps. Been in discomfort for months and this is the first thing that has given me relief!
This technique is also excellent for those suffering from cervical dystonia like I am. You are on target! Thank you.

Correct postural mechanics is important for you. An over the door traction unit may be helpful for you
Just what i needed! Thank you Doctor!
I thought flexion should be avoided with bulging/herniated disk condition. It is said to make it worst. Would love to hear thoughts of others around this.

Hello have you found a solution?
Good to know, specially for a personal fitness coach. Although is not my area it plays an important role on how should we properly rest and even the form of some exercises :)

I was wondering: if forward head is bad for a herniated disc, isn’t hanging your head forwards hurting your nerves in case of herniated cervical disc?
I am in pain every day of my life so sick of it
Am like you guys, some days i cry a lot with pain. Just hope everything will be fine
Drink 1/2 a cup of apple cider vinegar every morning right after waking, within a week you will notice a total reduction in pain. Hope this helps!

To my outstanding surprise it works for a while. I wish it wil for a long time.
Great videos. What about tractioning the lumbo-sacral area

as usual like your video,Doc! If we lie upwards, what is the result.i have herniated disc 5/6.may I do this?
Particularly useful after a day's bike ride! Thank you so much, Doctor! :)
Would love to know if this exercise would help or hurt pain from the occipital nerve. Had a nerve block and am scheduled to ablation in a month. Would love to avoid that procedure. Pain around the head and behind the eyes was getting me down.
Barb Carson
Ablation is hit or miss. That's not an easy accurate diagnosis. Might want to look into natural anti inflammatories
Love your videos Doc... Thanks a lot. I follow your advice. Kind regards.
Great topic 😊
Hello Dr. Mendell can i do this exercise also with a c5_c6 a mielopathy with osteophites? Thank you
GREAT RELIEF ! THANK YOU !
Hey doc! Can you recommend an exercise for eye strain issues? I'm not sure which muscles are causing the eye strain, but I'm almost certain it's muscular. I also have pain in the occipital region and traps when applying pressure there. Thanks so much!!
But this doesn’t harmonize with your other videos that say the constant forward leaning is compressing vertebrae
doctor mandell please woul you talk about the mid nack pain solution
Would love to do..... but certainly not with positional vertigo
Dear Doctor,
Could this help to alleviate thoracic outlet syndrome and especially nerve ulnar's pain ?
I thank you in advance for your thoughts.
Best regards
I today a great day. Thannk you doc
How many times a day can you do this?
Thanks for this self help Doc!
Doc… I have a question… My cervical vertebrae are not curved, they are straight.
My neck pain at the base of my skull is killing me.
My chiropractor told me never look down words as a stretching exercise.
What do you think?
Ok I did the exercises it helped alot but developed occasional irregular heartbeats through the day ... is this normal .
Is this ok for forward head posture?
how many times a day are we supposed to do this? thank you
I don't have high blood pressure but what about people who do can they do this excercise?
I feel this is better alternative void pain! what in case if you sleep at night with this position? Seriously with some bed adjustment or entire bed slightly decline position
Can this exercise help to prevent or cure forward head posture?
Seems like it would be counter productive. I was searching the comments to see if this had been addressed..

barcawi87 I am in the EXACT situation! My fingers are in CONSTANT pain. Been to two chiropractors and neither of them helped

Please advise

Yes, you can diversify them. They can be used in different settings. Most important is preventing forward head posture
Thank you
You have a video that is the exact opposite, lying on your back, so which is it, stomach or back?
I'm sure they address different things. Probably good to do both.
Thank you Doctor
Would an inversion table be good to use to do this stretching?
Can you please explain when the exercise of leaning back the head with tucked in chin is recommended but looking up is not good...?
doc...i ve generative disc diease in c4 and c5....can i do this traction? i love ur videos...n it really helps me....just wanna thank you v much.....i m from singapore
Thank you Doc!
Hi Doc., can a bulging disc cause any kind of vertigo
I love this guy's videos it's just always seems to take a while to get to him
Is this good for relief of c8 nerve compression?
This really works.
Hi, just found out I have 2 bulging discs on nos 1 and 2 in my neck.. I've been doing this but on my back should I be doing this one?.. I also have a forward chin which I think the other one was helping? Would it hurt to do both? Thanks so much love your videos 👍
Also have pins and needles in hands every night, no taste, tinnatus x
