I have published for download an illustrated parts guide complete with illustrations, pro tips, measurements and parts numbers. You can get it here: coupetofastback.gumroad.com/l/fjoxw
My 2wd 04 Ranger Edge came with a 31 spline 8.8 from the FX4 line. Even with it locked 100% all the time it was an amazing axle that I never had trouble with.
On those wheel wells that you made wider...were the sheet metal screws only there, to hold it in place ,until you weld it? I'm assuming you silicone seal those seams inside wheel wells?
Yes, I use sheet metal screws just for fitment then I weld those holes shut. I seam sealed what I didn’t stitch weld together. That includes where the wheel housing meets the quarter as well. I also seam seal where the wheel housing meets the frame.
I think im going to try and use a 70 mustang front 1 inch sway bar with hiem joints on my explorer rear and relocate the mounting locations on the axle on my fastback build. Wish me luck. love ur build
I think so. For the money it’s the best budget friendly direction. A four link that is from a quality company along with good coil overs is easily four or five times as much. I wouldn’t frame rail the back half just because of the time it took. Leaf springs are super consistent and inexpensive, you know what you have in the end. The 8.8 is plenty stout. I’d do the same especially for a daily.

That should be a lot beefier. Thank you!
If you had to do it again, would you have used this same rear setup?
