For those who do not know, there are many things I LOVE about plants; however, GRAFTING is my #1 favorite thing! I've been practicing many grafting techniques since I was 12 years old, and in this lesson I share my top three (3) grafting techniques to help make this one of your most enjoyable growing seasons as well! Happy Gardening! Charles 🌻
What if you made an "approach graft" where you grafted two of the same type of seedling together, and left them both connected to their rootstocks permanently. Would that make the one plant more vigorous or produce more by having the extra rootstock helping?
I learned about grafting from both my grandmother's. One did it with her roses. And my other one did fruit trees. I personally haven't tried to graft anything. But now I have limited space for a garden. Grafting popped into my head. I'm grateful you are sharing your experiences with grafting. I'm now excited to get the garden going.😊Thank you ❤
Thank you, sire. You make botany procreation/plant sex very interesting. Plant grafting has come a LONG way. Evidently we gardeners/orchardists have lost many of the techniques of propagating our favorite fruits and nuts. In the 60's, grafting was intangible, let alone risky, to most orchid owners. Your techniques are simple like child's play. As always, with the proper tools, farming is, at best, tedious. Thank you again, fair sire.
Can you graft a pomelo scion onto a pink grapefruit tree rootstock using electrical tape? Wow I learn something new - Fishing string? What about dental floss? Thank you for zoom in to show the detail. In the past year, I fail in all grafting technique. Looks easy but I fail in all bc I did not know about the cambium need to match exactly. Smart ideas using the paper towel to keep it moist. I was worry thinking the fishing string will kill or cut through the scion. Amazing, This is the best detail & simple grafting technique on YTube channel and very educational. Thank you !
Thank you sir for the very important clear explanation of the Cambium layer and its contact matching of it between the scion and rootstock .This is the first video in grating after so many videos that I've seen which satisfies my understanding of Cambium layer contact particularly lwith this mismatch of the scion and rootstock diameter you've grafted and it's explanation for success by the correct contacts you have shown.- Rajesh Moses ( South India )
You describe so defined and really enjoy watching your videos. Hope I can do the same witch my dog broke a big branch from my blueberry Bush that I've planted last year and hope to graft it to another lemonade blueberry Bush.
I'm going to try to graft on to dwarf granny smith apple tree I had for 10 plus years never fruit love the iv organic 3-in-1 tree paint have to get more for my new trees
Hello Kira! 👋 YES- length matters. The longer the scion, the more likely to dedicate. Ideal length of scion should be between 1-4 inches (closer to 1-2 is better). Keep me posted on your grafting successes! Charles 🌱👍
My father is wanting to graft some 9f my apple trees up north in Pennsylvania. There are multiple old trees on the property and 10 new trees that are about 8 yrs old. I myself have just planted some orange trees in my backyard in orlando fl an plan to graft some different varieties to them in the near future. I do have a question about shock that may have occurred during planting of the orange trees. Do I trim off branches that have lost there leaves or wait to see if they come back? 1 week planted and the base at graft are roughly 1 inch
HELLO Great Videos thank you for showing in Detail how to Graft in many ways .... please let me know if infact the grafting actually produces fruits ...I would love to see the fruits ! .....will you be bringing us a video of the fruits growing on these trees ? Are their different times that the grafts produce fruits ? I love your knowledge and Gift of Grafting !!!
I love your videos. I have a question about grafting. Could I graft a pear tree onto a magnolia tree? Does it have to be grafted onto another fruit tree? Cheers from Ottawa, Canada.
Thank you for the compliment GioKnows! Magnolia & pears cannot be grafted because they are not related enough. Pears can be grafted with other pear varieties, and some apple varieties. Keep me posted on your grafting successes! Cheers from Los Angeles! Charles 🍻 🌱👍
@@IVOrganic I thought as much. Thank you for the quick response and thanks again for your incredible channel. Your information is excellent and the presentation is top level.
Thanks for the great lesson. But I have a problem with one of my meyer lemon tree. I planted the tree 3 years ago and it bear some mini fruit and now it is yellow. Do you have any suggestions?
Hi! I have a pomegranite tree that is not performing well, & I'm afraid I'll lose it. Can you advise what I can graft onto it, or take cuttings to graft onto something strong? Would it graft to a Fig tree?
Hi Charles. At the moment, I dont have the option to do the approach or piggyback graft. Can I still get away with doing the cleft graft to my 2 yr old bears lime thats in ground? I want to graft eureka and orange onto it. If not what graft do you recommend? I appreciate your advice.
On your last example of the piggyback method, will you eventually cut off the Ponderosa root stock so the graft continues to grow only on the Eureka lemon or keep it attached to both the Ponderosa and the Eureka lemon tree all the time. Will it hurt to have these two trees’ root stocks growing so close to each other?
thank you for this. I would really like to start grafting onto my fig tree. it was a transplant fromna seed so the figs really do not taste good at all. I was thinking about cutting it back and grafting onto it. It is about 12 feet tall. Do you know any reliable sources that I can get different variety cuttings from? I live in San Diego. Thank you so much. Hope to hear back from you.
Figaholics is a good source, and it’s in California, too. Harvey just does one big sale of cuttings each year, around late January, but that way you’ll get dormant cuttings while your fig tree itself is still dormant, for maximum choice of grafting methods.
Please verify the statement that the prunus varieties of peach/plum/apricot/pluot/almond/cherry can "cross polinate". I was under the impression they can be grafted among each other, but not cross "polinate".

I subbed your channel for a while, and watched all of your videos, like every one of them👍
💡IDEA:
What if you just used a DRILL and made a hole AT AND ANGLE along the cambium for the the cutting to slip into?
(Less open area & no securing)
Really enjoyed this video, very informative!
This is very exciting, cant wait to try it 😀
Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Indonesia.

Thank you for great information
In Birmingham UK have a fig tree which bear load of fruit which doesn't ripe and falls off after a while, needs help for fruit to stay and ripen.
Does the length of the scion wood for a graft matter? Will a shorter one at 3-4 inches be better or maybe a longer one around 12 inches better??

How does one control the hight of a grafted fruit tree. What is dwarfing of the fruit tree?
Don Draper knows a lot about grafting 🙂
