  • So we have covered several aspects of the brake system, such as changing brake lines, cleaning rotors and comparing brake caliper tools, but we've never done a video on how to change the pads specifically. So here we go. This is a simple process which requires very few tools. We also discuss the different types of pads you can buy and what makes them different.

Good idea to clean area with brake cleaner after taking old pads off..
Hang caliper to take weight off the hose..
Finally put some brake grease on the clips and surface of caliper where the brakes make contact.
Torq brake bolts to 25 lbs
    Lug to 83 lbs..

I just got a set of hooks that go on the strut/spring to hang the calipers with.

So at least on the 2014, brake pads are larger for rogues with 3rd row seating. Some auto parts stores do not realize that and gloss right over that question on their computer when it's asked. I think they think all rogues have 3rd row seats but they don't.

I'm sure it's on all of them. I know the hybrid has different pads too.

Very thorough except the use if the spreader. Always talk to us like we are 12 and go over every single aspect of the process.

That something Ive learned and starting doing it later videos. I made a video about cleaning brake rotors and only showed cleaning the front side. I assumed people would know to turn it over and repeat the process. Nope.

is there a tiny lip on the outside of the brake rotor? Does that matter?

    • @Mylifeinthepits

Is it a raised lip or is it like a place where it's worn worse?

@@Mylifeinthepits it looks from your video that the outer edge of the rotor has a slight lip. Not sure how deep it is. Will this interfere with the new pads? You may also have a similar lip on the inside of the rotor (i.e. towards the the center). I just want to know if that matters? If the new pad is chamfered it will not in my humble opinion. If the new pad is not chamfered it could effect brake pad wear and positioning.

@deebee3901 if it was bad, I would've replaced the rotors at the same time. I remember when I did this, about a year later the rotors were warped badly and i replaced them then. My ex wife was hard on brakes.

You should also take your rotors to a local parts store or shop to be measured and/or resurfaced. A torque wrench should also be used to properly tighten the lugnuts.

The sad part is that for what a shop charges to turn a rotor you can almost buy a new one. That video may be coming soon hint hint

      Done. I didn't realize it wasn't specific.
