I followed the guide and it works fine with my Sony OLED with 4K/60 4:4:4. Initially, I thought 4:4:4 was not working but it turned out to be a older HDMI cable which was not certified to handle UHD (only HD) as I was getting random picture break ups until I replaced it with one which is and the issue disappeared. Just curious, I noticed the resolution, you had it hard set to 4K instead of Auto, this should not matter correct?
Great! If you use a Sony TV, whether you force 4K or Auto it makes no difference. The biggest problem is when you use “cheapo” TVs and projectors which can make the handshake to take much longer time.
Setting up the 420 today for my new Visio OLED. When the 4K movie starts, it still says HDR in the upper right corner. Not sure what I did wrong? Dolby Atmos is engaged! Picture looks good. I’ll double check my HDMI cable and port. 👍
Dolby Vision is not affected by my settings. It is Dolby’s licensing agreement that DV settings can not be altered. And yes, even with regular HDR10, the HDR logo will still show up, it is merely customized for your display.
i had done most of these when I first got the player, except the audio. i always felt like my soundbar and surround were not living up to their expectations - after making your audio setting change, the sound was greatly improved! thanks!
@debbiecoyle5134 it doesn’t matter. On or off, I can’t hear any difference. Even with test tones I can’t tell the difference. I turn it on just in case but no difference can be detected.
Thanks mate ..Just bought myself a Pany 420 ,(on a budget mate) , fiddled witha the settings as per you very concise instructions. I have a TCL QLED tv , what option do I put for the type of telly ..OLED or the one below ?
Ty so much for this video. My friend sent it to me after recommending I buy the 820! Am excellent recommend on both the player and this video optimizing the settings! Have a great day!
Bought the ub820 in November 2023 to use on my old trusty 2019 Sony 43in LED, set up all your settings per your instructions minus the a couple. Fast forward to Feb 2024, after purchasing the A75L the almighty algorithm popped your video back up, which I didn’t hesitate to click again for a refresher. I proceeded to turn on the Dolby Vision setting and HDR type to OLED. Thank you for posting!

I have to point out, and I tested with both my UB9000 and UB820 players, if you change the Deep Color Output from YCbCr from (Auto) to YCbCr (4:4:4), suggested at about 2:13 in the video, you no longer will be able to view Netflix in HDR nor use Panasonic's HDR Optimizer. I was on Auto previously before watching this vid and once I switched settings HDR was no longer available. With some trouble shooting I figured this out. Of course this is Netflix and streaming (not 4K disc quality) so I certainly plan to switch back to 4:4:4 when watching 4k discs as you suggest. Just wanted to point that out (as I like using the HDR optimizer for Netflix and Amazon Prime on these players). Thanks for video!
When you stop it and after 20 minutes you start it again, does it start from the point of the movie where it stopped? or does it start again from the beginning of the movie? They say that the 820 can't keep memory and it starts from the beginning of the movie!!
@@asklipieionvita8736 If your film is on pause and goes back to the screen saver, when you press play it will go back to the start. If you press OK it will resume from where you left off.
Thank you for another very informative presentation that is important for all Panasonic UB9000P1k and UB820 owners, and all who are interested in purchasing a new premium Blu-ray player! My only question is when I tried following the part in the video at 3:30 HDR settings and tried following those steps when I put the movie in and let it play. I tried the optimum HDR adjustment but get this notification, “this function is valid only during hdr content playback”.
Excellent video! I just installed and set up my newly purchased Panasonic UB9000 with my LG OLED55C1. Firmware updated to latest 1.69 version. What an improvement over playing 4K movies on PS5. So much better image quality than PS5. Thanks for providing this recommended UB9000 setup video!

@@DavidSusiloUnscriptedshould I skip step one? I have a Samsung Q90T set at 4:4:4. But wanted to check. Also I’ve heard others say you have to set resolution to “auto” to have upscale, what is the reason to have it set at 4k resolution?
This was so helpful. For the longest time, it keep saying something like "Dynamic conversion" and would not say that it was in HDR. I would add to this video under: settings, advance settings, HDR/Color Gamut output. To make sure it says HDR and not SDR. The default setting was SDR. I have the Panasonic USB420.
My setting is HDR/Color Gamut output, but when I hit the HDR Settings on my USB420, nothing happens. Hopefully, the advance setting automatically makes it HDR without having to turn it on via remote.
Usually you should do it once the first time. After that you don’t need to do it again. Also don’t forget the HDR Optimizer only works with HDR, not Dolby Vision
When you set this up what kind of tv did you use? The reason I'm asking is the last setting for HDR I can't do none of it because of "Dolby vision" I have an LG C3 65"
If you are using HDR10, the optimizer works well. It is only DV that can’t be used because DV is locked by Dolby. You can, however, turn off DVD in the player’s menu so it only analyses the HDR10 layer of the DV.
Hi David! Thanks a lot for sharing. Two questions... 1) A question about the HDR TV type in the settings - OLED is set to 1000 nits / does it make sense to select a different mode like LCD for new OLEDs like my G4? So I'm castrating my G4 by setting OLED in the menu! How do you do that? 2) With HDR plus/10 content, you can set the HDR optimizer while the film is playing. If you have it on and set to standard, should you then switch off Dynamic Tone Mapping in the TV menu? Or in General - paired the player with a Brand new lg oled g4 / i think i dont Need the hdr optimizer or im wrong? Merry Christmas to everyone
You will need the optimizer on because a 4k Bluray can output at around 4000 nits so it will wash the image out. As for your other questions just play around with it but on this input i would trust the player more than the TV.
@@Michael.Talbotthanks. thanks! I Must say After Hours of Testing. Oled is limited as 1000 nits and lcd to 1500 Nits thats it. So new oled gets much brighter. So with Harry potter it Looks so much better with the lg Dynamic Tone Mapping. If i use the optimierter i cant See Details Specially in bright scenes. So Strong recommondation for all with a new oled- dont use the optimizer. This is a 6 years Old Software. My 2 Cents I think new lg oled g4 Dynamic Tone Mapping > hdr optimizer Optimizer will limit it to 1000(oled Mode) or 1500nits (lcd Mode) I compared lot of Harry potter 1 bright scenes and hdr off and lg dtm is the best picture and the brightest
@@jurgenrittenauer2617 You will still need hdr optimizer on because no tv can display 4000 nits full screen, TVs are usually rated by a 10% window for bright rooms. Like i said just play around with the settings to find what's best for you, but trust the player not the TV. Brighter is not better it can wash out the PQ and look bad in a dark room.
@@jurgenrittenauer2617 I would turn the G4 dtm off and put the player to the highest LCD setting and work down ignoring the lowest (projector). I think you will end up seeing the oled setting the is most accurate with the hdr optimizer on in a dark / low light room. But the highest LCD setting will still be accurate, i would just play around with it because it is a great chip.
A really cool feature to have would be to be able to scan and recognize your TV brand/model/and type and auto adjust or make recommendation settings. If not doable, at least let you manually enter in your TV info and it just has to access some database somewhere on the internet and retrieve the recommended settings for your TV. If Logitech Harmony remotes can detect thousands of devices and apply the correct functions from their data somewhere, I'm sure Panasonic could do it too.
Yea Xiong...yeah that would be nice but don't hold your breath. The frequency manufactures put out updates are few and far between. For something like you're suggesting might be a hardware issue too I don't know.
They could easily do it, they're just not willing to put any investment into it. And well, it doesn't seem like they're really making new 4K blu-ray players anymore. Well, they do still make a few... but in terms of price/performance this 4 year old one is still the best.... and also still very pricey. Though not as pricey as most others they make these days which are nothing more than niche gimmicks such as being able to support very specific audio formats and have very specific ports almost no one even uses. 4K blu-ray is already a niche market and they are aiming for a niche of the niche.
I have an honest question. Just purchased the UB820. Am runnning it through a Nakamichi 9.2.4 Earc surround system to a Hisense U6G TV ARC port. For some reason, the only way I can get the player working correctly is to power all devices down, then power up the 4k blu ray player. Is this normal?
Hi I have a Sony A80J and I followed all your instructions. But I get This function us valid only during HDR output. Is there anything else I have to do? Or any other settings I have to change? Thank you
Thanks for the tips. I just bought the UB820 on sale for $399. I've been watching this player for awhile and was looking for the right price to upgrade over my budget player (UBP X-700), which I gave to a relative. I already had almost everything set up correctly, including changing the annoying default secondary audio setting, but I had missed the second 4:4:4 setting (the one in Color Mode). I didn't expect more than one for 4:4:4.
I just upgraded myself from the sony x-700. The panasonic gets delivered today and I plan on watching a 4k disc right as its set up :D. How have you liked the differences between the sony and panasonic? Are they noticeable to justify the $250 difference in price? This is definitely a purchase I hid from the lady as we just bought an LG G1, which she was said ENOUGH BUYING! But she loves the TV so hopefully she will like the new 4k player as well :).
@@Handsx The upgrade to the Panasonic was worth it to me for a few reasons. Getting it at $100 off was also nice start. The most obvious reason for this upgrade is probably the Panasonic is more advanced and higher quality technically and supports more features and formats. My OLED also supports most formats, including HDR-10+ and Dolby Vision, which I didn't get with the lower end player. I'm in a situation that I can afford above a budget model. Finally, I knew the relative I gave my old player to would get a lot of enjoyment out of it but is stubborn as a mule and would have never bought one herself. I'm pretty happy with the upgrade, and to significantly improve upon what I have now you'd probably have to go into the thousand to thousands of dollars range, which is beyond what I think is necessary for my purposes.
@@AKSBSU The Sony will be going in our bedroom where the old 4k tv will go, so I need another player either way. It'll be interesting to see how well the HDR optimizer does for tone mapping vs the LG G1 tone mapping. Will have to try both. I wish I could take advantage of the audio but I currently only have a 2.0 setup with a stereo amp and kef bookshelf speakers. I use an optical out from the tv so unfortunately I think there will be some transcoding from the 4k player to tv to amp. I wish the Panasonic had a coaxial digital out like the Sony player, but oh well! Not a huge loss.
So here’s a question for the optimum hdr adjustment setting does that have to be turned on every time you put a disc in or does it stay selected permanently? Got a 820 coming in hopefully this week so this really helped
Had problems since day one with the hrd optimizer being greyed out in the video settings. Those 3 tabs at the top had set 1, set 2, 4k dvd standard. Panasonic said it couldn't be adjusted so was getting ready to ship it back for refund when it magically moved to tab 1 which is set 1. Now it has an incredible picture. Your video shows it was easy to turn on so argued with Panasonic for an hour before giving up. I had your other settings correct but the picture was horrible until for whatever reason it reset itself. Have it hooked to a Samsung Qled 900a which I just purchased recently. Wish I could help in case this happens again but am clueless after 40 days why its working now. Thank you very much for this video, it helped me to know it wasn't anything I done wrong. Appreciate you taking the time to do it

I had that same problem and every time i tried to change the settings it timed me out, that is because the standard settings cannot be changed. I wish it just said "these settings cannot be changed" I thought my player was broken. When i finally worked out how to change it to set 1 and turned the HDR optimizer on the whole picture came to life. The picture is now stunning.
@@DavidSusiloUnscripted Thank you for this video, i only got my player today and i thought it was broken. Panasonic do not help themselves imo, all their problems are caused by stupid settings. It was working and then it wasn't, very confusing but i get it now 👍
Hello sir, I just upgraded to this player from the 420. I have one question that if you can please answer for me about 60p and 24p. I have this directly into a samsung soundbar q990c then into sony a80j tv earc. Do I use the 60p with 24p at auto or 60p off ? One more question is how to use the player remote to turn volume up and down ? Sorry David I know I asked more than 1 here man.
Hi David, I tried your setting but I have adjusted 24p Output to “Off” as this setting defaults output to 24p to match with source content and I find that I get an audio delay when I don’t output at 60p. I also find that with above set, when I adjust the color mode from YCbCr (Auto) to YCbCr (4:4:4) then the player outputs in SDR instead of HDR.
Which TV are you using? Some TV/Receiver/display combo can have that problem. As for SDR problem, just skip the first thing I mentioned in the video and you should be fine.
@@DavidSusiloUnscripted Thanks for your reply. I am using TCL C835 (2022 Model) with a Marantz SR7015 connected with HDMI 2.1 Fibre optic at both ends.

I'm planning to buy an 820 Panasonic 4K player before or after I get my new OLED TV. I was glad to see your setup video because many years ago I bought a Panasonic DVD recorder/player and the user manual was the worst manual ever written. It was incomprehensible. The tech support people were no better and there were no UA-cam videos in those days.
@@DavidSusiloUnscripted No! That's exactly what I bought and not only was the manual incomprehensible and their tech people useless, the DVD-R dubs the unit made from my Sony 8mm camera and my Sony 8mm VCR won't play in any machines including the Panasonic machine they were recorded on. I tried DVD-RAM discs too. Some played ok for a while but then they all quit playing. I tried them in several DVD players. I went with the 820 Panasonic 4K player mainly because of its Toslink digital audio output I need due to the lack of HDMI inputs on my legacy Integra A/V receiver. No other brand of 4K players have optical audio outputs.
Good vid David. I have an older player , a UB 900 going to a Sony 65" X9000F. I found I could have some freezing/picture break up , which many forums said was due to the player's 4:4:4 12 bit setting ( 4K blu ray is a 10 bit technology ) , still seems to work on Panasonic TV's fine. Anyway, I changed my settings to the 4:2:0 format and these problems disappeared. Still looks great. I was wondering if Panasonic have fixed this with their new players, I notice their setup menu has changed slightly. Thanks.
It is true when the cable and/or the display can’t handle the 4:4:4 signal. If you are using 4:2:0, it means you’re not using the Panasonic Chroma Upsampler technology.
4:4:4 12 bit setting with HDR require HDMI 2.0 that support bandwidth of 13,37 Mbps, so the TV needs a HDMI board supporting the maximum bit rate of 18Mbps. Early 4K TV might not support that bandwidth. You can change the colour mode to 4:2:2. 4:2:2 still support HDR.
I just got a 820. Is there a way to input into the remote so my volume control for the tv works with my ub820 remote? They said press the little red button beside the main power button… I’m putting in the code 30 for Sony TV’s and it’s just not letting me use the volume from the blu ray remote
I'm using an Epson 2250 projector (2700 lumens, 1080P resolution). When playing a 4k movie, which Panasonic (ub420) setting do you think would look better: 1. Panasonic set to 1080P output (let the Panasonic process the picture) 2. Panasonic set to 4k (4:4:4) output (the Epson would have to downconvert the 4k to 1080P). I would think the first option looks the best.
That is correct. For 1080p application, just set the Panasonic to 1080p and leave everything to auto. Thanks for commenting. Please like and subscribe if you have the chance,

These settings you showed are very interesting and one question I have are these one time settings? In other words are settings the same for 1080P blu ray movies too or do the settings have to be changed every time you put in a different format 4k to blu ray and back? Do settings have to be adjusted continuously depending on the format. I'd like to have a player I don't continuously have to mess with. Very well done "how to" thanks. David, one setting that confuses me is the HDR TV type settings. I have a Samsung QLED “Q70” tv. What would you recommend I set this to? Basic luminance or medium-high luminance. Thanks and I appreciate your suggestion.
That’s considered as low/medium luminance. It’s at the border so you can use either one. If you are watching the TV in bright room then you need to set it to low luminance. In a completely dark room use medium luminance LCD.

Thanks for these tips, it has certainly improved my viewing experience of 4k HDR discs. Ive read on several forums that Blu rays are shot or made in 4:2:0 and thus selecting 4:4:4 would have mo effect for 4k blu rays. What are your thoughts?
Some movies are stored in 4:2:0 and some are in 4:2:2. However, the chroma will be expanded back to 4:4:4 either by the display or by the player. Using the chroma upsampler on the Panasonic ensure you get a better 4:2:0 or 4:2:2 converted back to 4:4:4 properly. Or if you use a Sony or Panasonic TVs, you can leave it at 4:2:0 or 4:2:2
I have my settings pretty much like this on my UB820. But, for those that don't know, if you have a 4K Disc that has both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ on it and both settings are enabled on the player, it will default to HDR10+ and not Dolby Vision. I have to turn off the setting for HDR10+ for Dolby Vision to play back on my Panasonic GZ2000 OLED.
Thanks for the video. One mistake, if you set the Color Mode to YCbCR (4:4:4), then HDR movies play in SDR. I would just leave it at the default of YCbCr (Auto).
@@brandonmartinez5939 That’s good that means it’s working correctly. For some reason I was experiencing the same issue mentioned by the person who posted the correction.
Switch to auto! 4:2:2 is the correct setting for 4K films and 4:4:4 is best for blurays, so select auto and your player will switch automatically to the correct setting. Also, turn off deep color if you’re watching 4K films. It’s a bluray setting and it makes 4K films look slightly hazy
thank you for the video David...very helpful! I have a SAMSUNG QLED (Q70 series) TV. Should my "HDR TV Type" be (OLED) or (Middle or High Luminance LCD)? Im not sure of the difference between OLED and QLED. Thanks in advance!
QLED is a glorified name for LCD TV. OLED is a self emitting panel. For your Q70 you should use middle luminance LCD. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Can you do a video about the actual VIDEO settings when a 4K disc is playing? Like recommended settings for all options? Chroma level, Edge enhancement, sharpness, etc.? That would be wonderful 😊
I can but I can’t recommend any settings because depending on the Tv you use, screen size, viewing distance, lighting condition, those values are all over the place
@DavidSusiloUnscripted sounds good. I have a 65 inch Sony A95K. I was just thinking of just a video overall that breaks down those specific settings, as well as the overall pros and cons, regardless of your TV type 👍
@johnnieboy66 I have to remove hoapat’s half-truth misinformation. 1. The disc is in 4:2:0 BUT this player’s ability to do chroma upsampling is one of the reasons this player won many awards. Yes the TV will upsample the 4:2:0 to 4:4:4 BUT more often than not, the 4:2:0 to 4:4:4 chroma upsampling is done BEST by the 420/820/9000 2. Using HDMI 2.1 for this player is NOT going to improve anything. The maximum bitrate of this player (and AppleTV 4K) is at 17.8 gbps. Using either an 18gbps cable or 48gbps cable is not going to change the quality at all.
Bitstream only means whatever on the disc will be sent to the receiver as-is with no conversion. Therefore bitstream is the purest form of handling audio. Mind you, bitstream also means that if the disc is actually in PCM, then the data will be sent as PCM without being altered.
Just got a ub820 today, so far so good, thanks for this video. I have a Sony A80J, I noticed in your comments you mentioned letting newer TVs do the tone mapping - what does this mean in context with the player...you shouldn't use the HDR optimizer at all?
@@DavidSusiloUnscripted does this mean the HDR optimizer should not be used with newer TVs? Is there a recommended color setting? I was previously using a PS5 which I believe was set to RGB
Thanks for this video! Had my eye on this 4k player for a bit waiting for the right time to buy and today was that day! Amazon had it for $347.00, priced matched it at Best Buy and picked it up. I was using the PS5 and it did a pretty good job, but what bothered me was that it didn’t have HDR 10+ or Dolby Vision. So I went down the rabbit hole of getting a 4K player. I have a LG OLED 65CXAUA, Sonos Arc, 2 x Sonos ERA 300 (rears), and the Mini Sub (don’t like the look of the regular one). Your settings worked perfectly! Plays Dolby Vision by default. I really didn’t think I would notice much difference from the PS5, but there is definitely a difference! I am supper happy I picked up this player.
Should the panasonic 4k player be set to middle or high luminance or super high luminance for the qn900b 65 inch. What is the peak nits for this model? Thanks..
Hello, is there option in UB450 to change luminance of subtitles in movie ? Its big problem with HDR blu Ray disc. I know that ub820 has it but no one tells about that model.
I keep my Oppo’s audio output on Auto because I don’t want to miss any secondary audio, even though few discs use that these days. However most of them are still flagged to output as PCM whether they have secondary audio or not, and of course you then have to disable that if it has Atmos.
Even with practically all Atmos movies today you no longer need secondary audio turned off. This is done just for the odd occasion where the discs are not authorized properly. The first couple of years of 4K discs some movies are not mastered properly.
@@DavidSusiloUnscripted Most of the major studio discs have it enabled, most recent one I’ve seen was Dial of Destiny. I always keep notes on how all my discs are authored. I liked the menu sound effects, don’t know why they don’t do those anymore.
Right, I’ve never liked how most DVDs start out with a menu, it should just play the movie in its native language with no subtitles and then you change those if you want.
Hi, i have three questions to ask. 1) I have a Samsung TV QLED 8K Q800T 2020, what function should I enter on "HDR TV type" ? 2) If I set the HDR Optimizer, should I turn off the "HDR 10+ Setting" function or can I leave it on? 3) For Bluray 1080p, the resolution should I set the resolution to 4k or Auto? Thanks
thank you for the video i just have a few question that would be great if you could answer. should i enable 25p/50p output? right now i have it off but i noticed you had yours on auto. for digital audo output i have it the same as your but why bitstream over pcm? also for the down mix setting i noticed you had yours at surround encoded, i have mine in stereo. should i switch it? i have a hisense u7k with no sound bar if that helps you answer my questions. thank you 🙏
1. Bitstream because that’s sending the signal as-is to the receiver without conversion. Also using PCM will disable Atmos 2. You should put 25/50 to auto. If your display happens to be able to present 25/50 without conversion them it will look better.
Hi! What about the "SDR/HDR Conv. (Network Service" and the "HLG / PQ Conversion" options? What are these about? Should I leave them off in my Pana 820? Thanks
@ it works but when I press the volume up/down button on Panasonic remote it doesn’t control my TV volume. I’m not sure if that’s how it’s supposed to be or if there’s a way for me to pair Panasonic remote with my Samsung tv to control volume?

HI, love this video, I use your settings but which I click on OPTIONS the UB9000 says can't change when in DoblyVision. So can't adjust the HDR ON and HDR Setting to standard
This video gave me some important info that I could not figure out for myself as far as the picture quality with this UHD 4 K DVD player. However as far as the audio, I have this player-which I love-hooked up to a 5 channel surround system with an Onkyo amplifier that controls all the sound through the 5 speakers plus a sub woofer. . So looking thorough all three sets of manuals can get really confusing for us not techies out here. I still have to play with the amp controls to get the best sound and once that happens, it is great. And anyone who reads this that thinks that streaming on a 8x4 inch phone screen is great has never had true video outside of a movie theater. I do collect DVDS and am a movie lover from way back to the VCR days.
One more question. this is the 420 I’m doing it with now and I noticed one of the buttons I used to change a setting on the factory 820 remote is not there on this remote. It is the HDR setting button. This button has been changed to an exit button on this remote. Do you have any idea what button on here there might be that would work for an hdr setting? @@DavidSusiloUnscripted it says it’s made for UB 420, 820, and 9000 I think but they sent me the manual for the remote so I can figure it out at some point but the player I’m using it on is not even reading discs at the moment so can’t finish the setup yet anyway
I upgraded from Sony x800m2. I have now both, the x800 and the ub820. Playing David Attenbourough's Planet series in 4k I get the impression that although the color and tones in the ub820 are nice the picture seems to lack fine detail compared to the Sony x800. Sometimes straight line edges are jagged. My display is a Bravia A8H. Is there any setting on the 820 that I can tweak ?
Sorry I didn’t see your message until now. If you are using a Sony TV, let the upscaling be done by the Sony. It has better 1080p to 4K upscaling than any players on the market.
Ok so to make sure, i got a TCL q7 55 inch. You said for most displays domt do 4:4:4. So should i do 4:2:0? And for YCBCR color do i do the same? 4:4:4 or 4:2:0?
@@DavidSusiloUnscripted Thank you. It says now "dynamic range conversion output" instead of "high dynamic range". I assume that's normal and fine? Won't let me use the HDR settings button, saying "This function is valid only during HDR video output".

You just made my 820 and LG C1 come alive. Thank you
Does you’re c1 still say 8 rgb when using the player
When you set this up what kind of tv did you use? The reason I'm asking is the last setting for HDR I can't do none of it because of "Dolby vision" I have an LG C3 65"
If you are using HDR10, the optimizer works well. It is only DV that can’t be used because DV is locked by Dolby. You can, however, turn off DVD in the player’s menu so it only analyses the HDR10 layer of the DV.
Thank You! I had so many of my settings still turned off. Now I need to go back and re-watch all of my 4K movies!

My 2 Cents
I think new lg oled g4 Dynamic Tone Mapping > hdr optimizer
Optimizer will limit it to 1000(oled Mode) or 1500nits (lcd Mode)
I compared lot of Harry potter 1 bright scenes and hdr off and lg dtm is the best picture and the brightest
@@Michael.Talbotok whats your recommondation? Set it off on lg cause Double dtm?
And oled(1000 nits) or max lcd (1500 nits)
I would think that it would be standard for TVs to communicate to players what their peak brightness but apparently not
I have an honest question.
Just purchased the UB820. Am runnning it through a Nakamichi 9.2.4 Earc surround system to a Hisense U6G TV ARC port.
For some reason, the only way I can get the player working correctly is to power all devices down, then power up the 4k blu ray player.
Is this normal?
I honestly can’t say because using ARC or eARC is always a crap shoot. You’ll never know what you’re going to get with them. 😢
Many thanks for these instructions .... I'd been using factory defaults for almost a year; now I have to re-watch all those movies the right way hah

Yeah. Panasonic manuals were somewhat cryptic. The only time they did it right was when they had DVD-RAM and DVD recorders.

Or if you use a Sony or Panasonic TVs, you can leave it at 4:2:0 or 4:2:2
@DavidSusiloUnscripted I have a Sony Bravia7. Do you recommend I let the Sony upsample?
I have my settings pretty much like this on my UB820.
@DavidSusiloUnscripted sounds good. I have a 65 inch Sony A95K.
I was just thinking of just a video overall that breaks down those specific settings, as well as the overall pros and cons, regardless of your TV type 👍
@hoapat4247 so for clarification, what is the setting 4:4:4 for then? When should it be used?
@johnnieboy66 I have to remove hoapat’s half-truth misinformation.
1. The disc is in 4:2:0 BUT this player’s ability to do chroma upsampling is one of the reasons this player won many awards. Yes the TV will upsample the 4:2:0 to 4:4:4 BUT more often than not, the 4:2:0 to 4:4:4 chroma upsampling is done BEST by the 420/820/9000
2. Using HDMI 2.1 for this player is NOT going to improve anything. The maximum bitrate of this player (and AppleTV 4K) is at 17.8 gbps. Using either an 18gbps cable or 48gbps cable is not going to change the quality at all.
I have a Samsung Q90T TV would that be considered middle or high luminance LCD?
High luminance LCD
@@DavidSusiloUnscripted Very helpful video and thanks so much for the quick response really appreciate it!
How come under Digital Audio Output settings and DTS/DTS-HD it’s bitstream and not PCM? Just curious. Thank you
Bitstream only means whatever on the disc will be sent to the receiver as-is with no conversion. Therefore bitstream is the purest form of handling audio. Mind you, bitstream also means that if the disc is actually in PCM, then the data will be sent as PCM without being altered.

Hello, is there option in UB450 to change luminance of subtitles in movie ? Its big problem with HDR blu Ray disc.
I know that ub820 has it but no one tells about that model.
The 420, 820, 9000 have that feature but the 450 is based on the previous generation’s chipset that does not allow you to do so.
