It's not a "must win." It's a can't win. Lamar Jackson needs to play well in the playoffs. That's the only thing that matters.

It's a must win for Baltimore in the terms of momentum, and in the Chiefs case this is actually a can't lose. They can't lose because if they win they're going to be a favorite to win the 1 seed for a Loaded AFC and even if they lose this game what are people going to say, "They can't win the SB anymore" I wish they would it'd be really funny if the Chiefs lost a week 1 game against a fabled contender and proceed to win the SB after a lot of people thought their season was done. I mean obviously everyone wants to have that kind of pressure free mentality and focus on winning in the present, but let’s not pretend like the past has no bearing on the present. The pressure on Lamar to perform in the playoffs this year is going to be immense after last season’s abject failures. Mahomes is not the boogie man. They had an excellent defense last year that carried them. Nick is talking like the Chiefs blew the Ravens out and their wide receiver didn't fumble at the 10 yard line. This is clear narrative creation. The Ravens have by far the hardest division, Mahomes is the least of his worries until the playoffs roll around.

Mahomes is definitely the boogie man in a win or go home environment. The Ravens completely abandoned their gameplan because they got into shootout mode against one of the most elite secondaries fielded in the last 20 years. Why? because the Chiefs answered the bell after the Ravens scored, and not many teams could do that at all the entire season.
They tried to boat race Mahomes because they were simply convinced that the run game wasn't going to score fast enough to beat him, when in reality they just needed ball control and play the exact opposite of what they did offensively.
We've seen this song and dance where Mahomes will erase double digit deficits in a matter of minutes, or seconds even. The only 2 QBs to ever stop him are either retired or made of glass and have a roughly 1/4 chance to complete a season.
Also single covering Kelce is probably not a winning plan either, even at this stage in his career.

Shortly after the schedule came out, Lamar was asked about this game and said something (can't remember what) that some people, mainly Chiefs fans tooks as him overlooking the Chiefs. But he's definitely not overlooking the Chiefs. Even if he doesn't say it, he's aware of the fact that really nothing in the regular season will matter for him or his legacy. The Ravens could win 45-0, Lamar throws 5 TDs and it wouldn't reallt chabge anything. Now, a win at Arrowhead would give me confidence he can beat them again if they were to meet in the playoffs. But also, at some point, they have to stop looking at how this impacts Lamar and look at Harbaugh as well. During the Flacco era, the Ravens were never scared of any team, even the Pats dynasty and they played like it, especially during the playoffs. But now, all of a sudden, its like Harbaugh coaches scared and the team can't handle these touch moments that, whole not rhe same players, the organization has shown it can handle. Its utterly ridiculous.

He's the second most decorated QB of this generation behind only Mahomes. Just saying Lamar has been close to beating Mahomes in Arrowhead, and anything is possible. And as for beating Mahomes in Arrowhead, just like Nick says it could be like an emotional/mental roadblock if they lost the opener, it could also be a huge boast mental and maybe help the Ravens be more confident if they were to play again in the playoffs.

Regular season does not mean much of anything. The Chiefs prove that they struggle during the season while the Ravens are winning during the season. One wins playoffs and Chips while the other goes home to watch from their summer home.
The Lions are a TERRIBLE example. They turned around next week and lost to Seattle at home. All the momentum from beating the Chiefs on the road didn't seem to do much there. Rams beat the Niners in the playoffs after losing 6 straight to them so this is NOT a must win for Baltimore.

How did the refs rig Lamar into throwing into triple coverage? How did the refs rig the Ravens to not cover Kelce for a half? How did the refs rig Zay Flowers fumbling? The last time the Chiefs faced a team that had a QB that caught his own pass was a playoff loss for the Chiefs.

After last year, the Chiefs aren't afraid of going on the road, even in the playoffs. Where they beat a 6, 2, two 1 seeds, and the closest to a home game was in Vegas, where the Chiefs play once a year. If KC wins their first two, it will be a bad sign for the rest of the league. A game up on both the Ravens, and Bengals early would be new, since the Chiefs have dropped big games early in each of the last three years, and the Bengals had to beat KC twice in a month to play in a Super Bowl.

Nick is right when he said someone has to beat that team for them. Lamar is going to look at that as a must win. You're going into the B2B SB Champs house. It’s not about proving a point. It’s about attacking your opponent’s weakness. No Qb really had much success passing vs the Chiefs last year. Outside of Lamar & Zay flowers, no duo really had big gains vs them and they played the best WRs in the league.
