Graphically it's not a huge improvement over the previous two games, but Eternal wasn't a huge improvement graphically either. I think the best change was the much higher enemy count, and the idea of bringing back hordes of monsters (even more so than before) is definitely a welcome improvement.

I'm not surprise if they ditched Ray Tracing on Console for more detail, larger scale designs, framerates. not saying they can't pull it off as this is Id Software but the focus is 100% 60fps+ and maybe even 120fps modes now on console. PC on the other hand I'm confident in seeing it continue to have Ray Tracing and possibily add more, exactly the type of game you would expect to go out and beyond for PC/RTX features unless Microsoft somehow cocked that.
Seems it's based on order of things rendered to the player. The tree behind the other tree 4:50 is where I saw LOD pop in behind other tree, only. But the distant trees are more detailed even.
I'd love to see what id could do with another shot at their criminally underrated Rage series. I love both Rage games and still play them to this day. Especially the first game with its meticulously crafted, highly detailed environments. Also, it's cool that id is throwing the Doom Slayer back in time but I'd rather get id's take on an honest to goodness spiritual successor to Heretic/Hexen. Since the rights to that series are in limbo, just start from scratch. What would id's take on fast and fluid 1st-person dark fantasy melee look and feel like?
I get strong Painkiller vibes from new Doom, which isn't a bad thing, as IMO these aesthetics rock. But of course I have faith in id software they will do this setting a better justice - PK games have not aged that well in terms of gameplay. But yeah, this medieval, metal hell is what I've been missing since playing them. I wonder how they'll balance gameplay this time. Doom 2016 is a classic run-gun game with a bit of arena shooter DNA and expanded movement (double jump, vaulting) and I like it. Doom Eternal is a full-blown translation of high level play multiplayer arena shooter mayhem and I absolutely adore it. But I do accept that it is too rigid in design and hardcore for many. I do hope they managed to preserve some of that DE gameplay, maybe making it not "a must" but "more rewarding" thing in terms of combat. Anyway, this is day one purchase (I have PS5 Digital, so no reason for pre-order) for me!
Alex, I think you may have missed the big story here. This is just a guess, but I think the reason you're not seeing raytraced reflections (and the reason it's struggling to hold 60 fps) is because they're using raytracing for pathtraced diffuse GI instead. If they can get that to run at 120 FPS again, on ANYTHING, then my god brothers, they will have pulled off a miracle three times in a row.
idtech has always been in a league of its own, IMO. Not the perfect engine for every scenario, but an incredibly well designed and architected engine since the early days of 3D graphics.
i dont like the skullgun at all. i get the grinding part but what in the gun makes it shoot it looks like that thing farmers have on their tractor that shoots out the corn i hope we get the usual doomguy weapons mixed with level or demonspecific guns that you can pick up or something, maybe slightly better than the doomguy version its a bit weird they show is a usual looking shotgun and plasmagun. but have medival looking guns in between that wouldnt make sense
I wonder if this new Doom game will have more improvements on the id tech engine and Vulkan low level access on PC, the last two games have been probably the most impressive when it comes to performance for the given visuals, and if that's the engine or Vulkan, I don't know, but id tech are clearly doing something right on the PC and even consoles when it comes to optimisations that so many other big games are lacking, and what I mean by that is that the hardware specs needed to pull off the visuals, well id tech seems to do a much better job then others.

At least on console alot of the background details are actually pretty bad looking. It's been a while since I played it on PC though
@@Madchris8828 It looks incredible on PC, it's insanely crisp in my opinion.
Nice touch, opening up with Mick Gordon’s soundtrack
I'm betting Mick Gordon doesn't work on this one, hahaha.
Something happened?
@@homerjharry6315 It's a long story, but Marty Stratton of Id screwed Mick over on Eternal's OST.
Ahh shit
100%, in-fact the first glimps of the soundtrack do not promise well..
Its gonna be hulshult doing the soundtrack. Also we heard a 30 second snippet of one song lol. 2016 and eternal didn't all have bangers just saying.
All I want is a VR mode for this game, or at least the old ones (2016 & Eternal).
Can’t wait to see how this will look on switch 😂
The switch will turn explode, lmfao
Probably the first doom that isn't going to drop on switch unless Nintendo decided to make a new powerful system that is capable of running a big game
@TheMrAdax probably will come to that, but I meant the original mostly as a joke 😉
It’s going to be Xbox exclusive surely
@@SillyOlive nope
the skybox/clouds thing reminds of how hugo mentioned that they had to make the skyboxes prettier because every speedrunner seems to fly through them in eternals any% speedruns
DOOOOOOOOOOM
The volumetric clouds scare me a bit, being one of the first things I usually disable for performance gains - but I trust iD.
Exagerrated swagger of a slayer teen
id delivering their mastery in game engines since 1995...and that's only on the technical side of things.
Even small details like that skull machine gun deserve praise.
Here's hoping the dragon riding and power ranger mech sections are optional or at least skippable on second plathroughs. If I wanted to play Panzer Dragoon or Titanfall, I wouldnt be booting up Doom. Otherwise, everything looks right.
Imagine crying about things like this. Some of you would be insufferable in real life.
@@ivanaleksandartsanev1693 lol
It looks so crisp yet so clean. Unlike the other previous doom, this one is just no clutter effects no fancy colors
incredible
i would so love to have it coming out this summer
Ok, you really went hard into the clouds. Ok we get it
cool
He was yapping about the clouds for a bit ngl
My GTX970 might still be able to handle this. I need to buy a new card and a CPU i9 still damn expensive
4 minutes talking about clouds.
Graphically it's not a huge improvement over the previous two games, but Eternal wasn't a huge improvement graphically either. I think the best change was the much higher enemy count, and the idea of bringing back hordes of monsters (even more so than before) is definitely a welcome improvement.
Sooooo no comment on any procedural gore improvements on the enemies? We just saw the Slayer deleting a mancubus's left side with the Super Shotgun and you're fussing over the dragon?!
Id is my favorite dev I can't wait to see what they have cooked up.
Love your creativity, it's inspiring!
Uuugh, waiting for this game is like waiting for DOOM ETERNAL all over again! I love this feeling but it’s also torture at the same time! I’m gonna be injecting every bit of news, updates and content into my VEINS with every passing day all over again!!
Doesn't look that much better than DOOM Eternal.
Well diminishing returns and all that. Still looks amazing
Or does Doom eternal still look very good to an unreasonable degree.... probably this.
Extremely excited to see this game on Switch 2, probably the most surprising thing about Doom games for me is how good they scale for low tier hardware. Same for Series S
Have they said if the micro managing resources is coming back from eternal?
...now you mention it, I don't see a rainbow of resources / items spilling out from the kills. That's a promising thing.
@@JamesGadbury how is that a promising thing?
I hated that so much.
@@DavideDavini skill issue
@@CRT_YT sure why not, I don’t care to argue about that.
Still, if it is like Eternal. Hard pass for me.
Cheers.
I hope there is some reference to Quake and the Ranger in this medieval time setting.
Yea I'm hoping they somehow connect the other iD IPs eventually
A missed opportunity to call this Heretics of Doom.
This game looks so incredible. If the last two Doom games are anything to go by, it should run so well, too.
I didn't even notice that it was raining 5:45
Lmfao, now i can't unsee it
Also I'm glad we are getting more Rain levels in doom, because Uac Atlantica in eternal was my favourite level in that game,
It was so atmospheric and beautiful, as well combing David levy score is chief kiss
that level kicked my ass
@@Ezdine_G8261 yeah that first level is really an first impression of what the entire dlc is going to be like
Doom is one of the very rare franchise that isn't for me but I wish it was.
Even as someone who doesn't enjoh this kind of game, I can tell it's really good.
Hello Alex ! Are you following what happend with LSFG 2.1? will you make a video about it because that the only one that do a double image interpolation for frame gen if i remember correctly you have talked about it in a DF direct weekly. Thanks to the whole team of DF for your amazing work !
If they went back to Doom 1/2 level design I would be so happy.
I'm not surprise if they ditched Ray Tracing on Console for more detail, larger scale designs, framerates. not saying they can't pull it off as this is Id Software but the focus is 100% 60fps+ and maybe even 120fps modes now on console. PC on the other hand I'm confident in seeing it continue to have Ray Tracing and possibily add more, exactly
the type of game you would expect to go out and beyond for PC/RTX features unless Microsoft somehow cocked that.
This is the first time I'm not blown away by the trailer of the next Doom.
that trailer was pure art to me honestly it was one of the most impressive game trailers this year.
Seems it's based on order of things rendered to the player. The tree behind the other tree 4:50 is where I saw LOD pop in behind other tree, only. But the distant trees are more detailed even.
might even be a bug.
While I hoped for a Quake 1 sequel on id Tech 8, looks like what we are getting is certainly nothing to be upset about.
Maybe open world because of the flying dragon mount to get around?
idtech has always been in a league of its own, IMO. Not the perfect engine for every scenario, but an incredibly well designed and architected engine since the early days of 3D graphics.
Ah yes, was waiting for this. ID rarely misses with visuals. Hyped for Dark Ages !
Sometime when there’s a change in frame rate it’s not always a performance issue sometimes it’s done intentionally for dramatic effect.
Really hope the bring the multiplayer back like in 2016. That was fun and would be nice to play in a setting like this
i dont like the skullgun at all.
i get the grinding part but what in the gun makes it shoot it looks like that thing farmers have on their tractor that shoots out the corn
i hope we get the usual doomguy weapons mixed with level or demonspecific guns that you can pick up or something, maybe slightly better than the doomguy version
its a bit weird they show is a usual looking shotgun and plasmagun.
but have medival looking guns in between that wouldnt make sense
I wonder if this new Doom game will have more improvements on the id tech engine and Vulkan low level access on PC, the last two games have been probably the most impressive when it comes to performance for the given visuals, and if that's the engine or Vulkan, I don't know, but id tech are clearly doing something right on the PC and even consoles when it comes to optimisations that so many other big games are lacking, and what I mean by that is that the hardware specs needed to pull off the visuals, well id tech seems to do a much better job then others.
I would love it if Bethesda has id Software to make the next elder scrolls. They would make the game so beautiful and make it run so smooth.
Man a Halo game running ID tech would be amazing
