    I don't call them mistakes... I call it learning.

    My dad grew plants for selling in a green house. The process was a labored process. Starting with the dirt he got from outside, or a mixture he put together he baked the dirt in the oven at like 450° F for one hour about. He planted a entire seed package into one larger container. These were placed under a large fluorescent light in the basement. Later the grown seedlings had to be transplanted into small sectioned off pots. The transplanting work was hard for us as children and a worker was also hired.

    Something I saw on UA-cam last year , put a sardine in the hole when you plant a plant.. The Indians taught the Pilgrims the same thing. They use a fish then made mound over it. Planted corn, beans and squash seeds. The corn, several stalks were for the beans to grow up on. The corn and beans provided shade for the squash .Good luck with the garden. Everybody should plant a garden this year.

    I use banana peel water too! Gardening is such an ongoing learning process too, the most important thing is just keep doing it!! Trial and error and success all go hand in hand!! I’m only partway in, so I’ll get back to watching. But you look so wonderful! I’m a wholistic body builder, and at almost fifty with menopause trying to change me, Im hyper focused and can really tell that you’ve been working out and that you’re taking good care of your gut health! You’re very svelte and glowing, my good woman!! Ok back to watching💃

      Ahhh yes, all so true I am learning. Hope you enjoyed the rest of the video! So neat to hear about your holistic bodybuilding too, wow! Thank you so much for the kind words and for noticing, I have been working out more lately, getting back into the gym and such :)

    I'm so glad you have shared this info on seed growing! After lots of reading & researching, I have recently ordered 45 different varieties of Organic vegetable, herb & flower seeds. I'm really excited to get started, but at the same time a bit nervous that I've bitten off more than I can chew. Anyway, will see how it goes.
    Thanks for the tips! 🙏🌱☺️

    This is my first year doing a larger patio garden. I don't use humidity vents or lids. I just mist more often. I worry about being too wet and developing mold. As for more than one seed per cell.. I do 2 per cell, I have found for whatever reason some don't germinate. I was going to dump my lavender thinking they weren't going to germinate, then I read it takes 3 months. At almost 4 months they started coming up. My oregano and basil didn't do well, so I am going to try them again. I made a mistake by starting my okra too early.
    Rather than plucking and discarding, I wait till bigger and transplant them separately. My stepfather will sit there with a pencil for hours untangling roots to keep every flower plant.
    I love microgreens, but be careful drying them using a microwave. They are high in iron and minerals, so they spark and catch fire. Microgreens take a lot of seeds, because you need to keep planting and harvesting every 2 weeks.

      Wow! Thanks for all the insight. Sounds like you really have some experience behind you! My lavender sure has been taking its time, gosh. I like the two seeds per cell idea too.

      @@allymariebrown been more of a slow journey over this past year. I am really getting into more healthy living and homesteading. Like you and kyle,. I live in an apartment. But I don't have an off grid cabin. Wish I did. You are way ahead if me, but you can check out my channel. Besides my outdoor activities, I started a homesteading and rural living playlist of my journey.

    As gardeners, we are always learning. Do you know anyone in your local area who could advise you on when to plant out? Even local areas can be microclimates.
    We have a saying in Scotland ‘Ne’er cast a clout, till Mey be oot’. Translation: Never take off a covering, until the Mey flowers are in bloom. ‘Mey’ being the blossom of the Hawthorn tree.
    I reuse old plastic butter / margarine / spread tubs, to cut into strips, to use as plant labels.
    I also reuse old tights (pantyhose) as plant ties. All you do is cut the toes off (discard those) and then cut across the leg, into about 1 inch ring strips. You will end up with rings. A quick tug on each of them, with your fingers, will roll the material, and you’ll be left with perfect plant ties. These stretch, so they don’t damage the plant as it grows, and they are waterproof so they won’t rot.

    • @allymariebrown
      @allymariebrown  2 роки тому

      My aunt Erin has been helping me! It's looking like early May for getting them outdoors. Haha that's a great saying. Love the idea on the labels and plant ties, thank you!

    We made the same mistakes with putting too many seeds per cell. I used tongue depressors for markers and had no issues with that. I also feed my plants coffee grounds and seaweed extract. The energy from those seem to really pep up the plants.

      @allymariebrown  2 роки тому +1

    Good morning Ally, sorry I missed your live last night, gardening is always a learning process even for someone like me who has been gardening for over 15 years, there are no mistakes only learning curves. I do not know if it was me that told you about the banana water but I let mine soak for at least 3 to 5 days to ferment in the water it gets a stronger smell then I dilute it into some water and compost my peels it really helps all my plants, love your videos so much, have a wonderful week.

    Just a few tips for your seedlings. They are pretty “leggy.” That means they are reaching for the light and need more light. I would recommend getting a supplemental source of light. You also should fill your squares to the top with soil. Seedlings burn through the nutrients in the small squares quickly so giving them as much as you can from the start as helpful.

      @@allymariebrown may I add: when you are transplanting a seedling, take a pencil and loosen the root then grab the seedling by the leaves. I noticed you grabbed by the middle of the seedling. This can cause the water and nutrients to be cut off; just a friendly tip. I wish your garden to be bountiful! Great video

    Thank you so much for sharing the banana peel water as liquid fertilizer, I will try that and I do the same with egg shells, Roses love the Calcium from the eggs shells it makes them grow abundantly, after I boil or crack eggs I put them in a wide mouth plastic water jug I really need to switch to glass and Yes it Smells but all my house plants respond positively to it, also Would you consider getting a tower to place all the seedlings to place in the window so that all the trays can get sunlight at the same time and just turn the trays around weekly so that all the sides get direct sunlight

      @@allymariebrown my problem has been finding the healthier foods, herbs, and powders. My local place is really down (maybe the time of year). They didn't have matcha powder, just the tea bags. I prefer mine cold with more matcha than just one or 2 bags does. Most bags I found hold less than a tablespoon. I use 3-4. Plus their powders went from $10 to $35-$70 for a small jar.
      I really need to make another trip to the berkshires, but I missed maple season already. I got lucky to find a few items my last trip 2 years ago in October.
