One tip for starting a food garden is to stagger planting dates of the same type of vegetable. Something like tomato can be very plentiful and you end up with thousands of tomatoes for two weeks and then nothing. Good for sauce making, but if you want to just eat them, then staggered planting will help with that!
Yes! I have read about this. I will have to give this a try if I don't get in over my head haha. I'm SO excited to really can and preserve things this year too.
You are such an inspiration. I am 75 years old today I separated all my basil transplanted into bigger pots. I always start it by seed I never buy plants by saying and then start them. I also gardened years ago in Michigan they had better dirt than they do here in Georgia!! Cucumbers squash, zucchini, tomatoes, and many more. Always start your own that way you know what’s in the dirt because sometimes they put in chemicals in the plants and it goes into your garden there’s plenty of help on UA-cam and I wish you the best, in your new place. You’re a sweet young girl you have your whole life ahead of you. Enjoy it!!! Also the plants that I just mentioned you can put them right in the ground you don’t have to start them once you’re grown is warmed up. Even your herbs sow the seed girl!!!

as a Montanan, I have to say i admire the way you guys .are reclaiming your forests and occupying them with such heartfelt love for your world...and sensing with joy your place in this world....super enjoy both of your channels...the lengthening days here come with a combination of snowy days and the moisture so needed intersected with the lengthening daily sun ,the grain sprouts in the fields and the sky resounds with the calls of cranes and eagles....my lambs are so knock kneed but gamble about....and I am foraging the willow i need for my art along rivers with otter and beaver, we saw a bobcat nail a mink yesterday while sitting on the bank having lunch and fishing,..distant sightings of wolves through the binoculars, and bear scat...spring in the Rockies.

I just made a vegetable raised bed out of an old bed I love it. Great to simply your life and create more a sacred space in your home. I've just sorted out my spare room and turned it into an art room!! Changing your space can create even more creative flow I reckon. Happy planting!!
I have a suggestion for an additional step for your homemade almond milk. Try removing the skins before you blend. It’s better for your body and makes the milk that much creamier!

All the plants in the apartment provide a serene and natural vibe, looks great. And seed starting... my favorite time of the year, I also go overboard and plant way too many of them, but the extra plants make for great gifts.

I just made almond milk exactly like you do, except I peel my almonds before blending and don't add sweetener until I know how I will use it. Because for me, it's often with things that are already sweet. I also make flour and use it combined with other flours to bake with. Good stuff, thanks for sharing.
Oooh yes I have actually heard of peeling them prior, I will have to try it sometime! Sometimes I do make mine without anything sweet, but lately I've been drinking it with matcha so I like the little natural vanilla and maple. Mmmmm, delicious! In the fall, when I bake more, I usually just do a pinch of salt with it if anything!
Good luck Little One. I currently live in southeastern CT but plan to move to NH in a few years. I love the northern New England areas. You will need to put fencing of sorts around your garden. The deer will get to it. I live in a rural area and there are deer, possum, foxes, coyote, and even an annual visit from a black bear here. Everything gets into the garden.

That was fascinating! I switched to almond milk a year ago as oat milk was messing up my digestive system a bit, so it was interesting to see how it's made. I love the new layout with all the wood, light, plants, & the piece of art with the male and female hiker.

Hey Allie, like a previous comment, you will need to use fencing if you want a harvest. Depending on what rodents (mice, gophers, squirrels and chipmunks) are there, a finer mesh closer to the ground to keep out bunnies also. The critters don’t understand ownership and will eat what they want. Physical barriers seem to be the best strategy.
Hi! I definitely will be making a very large (as well as deep to prevent digging) fence. The animals around here are nuts and will do anything to get to the crops haha

What I miss most about New England is the spring run off and the many streams and rivers that overflow and sweep their banks clear of debris. The sound of running water is part of who I am. Kyle has some long running stream side videos that are full of flowing water sounds. Having a relationship to those water ways is essential experience with your surrounding ecology. Don’t mind me. You bring some of this to me and I appreciate it. I had just begun making little videos of the streams and snowmelt here in the Southern San Juans when I was suddenly off my feet. Getting back out to the foothills is my Spring goal. Thanks for your inspiration., Ally. You have joined Hannah and Isabel who have also shared woods, mountains and oceans with me as I convalesce. 💙🌙🐌
Ahhhh yes! I feel so connected to the water-the streams, the lakes, the waterfalls. You can certainly feel and absorb the energy. So soothing and rejuvenating to the mind, body and soul. I will be sharing more of the natural river sounds as I spend more time at the cabin too :)

Hi how do you treat fruit flies?
Luckily we haven't had them yet here, but at the old office I used an essential oil blend to deter them from hanging around. We also had vinegar and sticky traps.
I imagine you have less space than I but you utilize it so well. Getting all your equipment for kitchen and garden is awesome. How long do you soak your almonds for?
Hi! Thank you so much :) It has definitely taken us a few tries to get the space optimized haha. I soak the almonds for about 8 hours (overnight makes it easiest!)
That sage cleansing works?
Yes! It eliminates a lot of bacteria from the air and renews the energy. :)
