Here is another situation “My Situation “: if you are a practicing Muslim which means you need to pray 5 times a day . Part of that process i need to make ablution “ wash before pray “ which includes washing the face .
Now because of that i do i take this as an opportunity to apply beard oil because as you said the beard absorbs the oils better .
So it goes like this : early the the morning is the highest amount of oil and styling afterwards with Balm . Mid-day & Afternoon adjustment with small amount of oil . After sunset i skip putting oil most of the times because i still feel there is a good amount in my beard . At night is the bed routine where is goes to oil and butter .

I’m same oil only in morning, both oil and butter at night after shower. But I hop in shower in the AM and do a water rinse of beard before applying that morning oil. If I apply morning oil without rinsing butter out beard just feels weird and I don’t like it

Similar here. I shower before bed. I oil after the shower during summer. I add butter to the routine in the dry Canadian winters. Then in the morning oil and either balm or butter.
In the summer I ditch the butter for the night time after shower.

Once in the morning after a shower, and once in the evening. i have been using a warm towel to get my beard wet, and it really helps. Plus it makes my face clean and ready for bed. Thanks Dan!

I apply beard oil in the morning after my shower. If i have had a busy day I sometimes do a midday routine like you described and get my beard wet, towel dry and apply for oil. I sometimes just enjoy doing this to get a boost in the scented oil I’m using as well. Great video Dan!

I find twice a day for me is good. If I do too much in the morning I will look greasy and feel gross, but then by the time the evening hits I like to wash my face and reapply. After joining this channel I’m really interested in trying the butter at night instead. Seems like a good routine

I shower in the morning (finish with a cold rinse - REFRESHING!) then dry it to about 75% dry, oil, wait 5 minutes, and style. A spritz with the spray bottle and butter before bed and my beard has never felt better! If I hit the beach or pool I'll do a second shower and oil again just to keep it in good shape.

Morning shower, scrub up good, comb and brush out, oil up, comb and brush through - most days that's it. I am in education as well and do have to wear a mask as I enter the building, when I'm speaking face to face with someone, or when I'm in the halls. I live in the Desert Southwest and our average humidity is usually sub 30%. (High mountain desert though, still get's very cold and we get the nice occasional snowfall.)
When I first started using oil I did use first thing in the morning after my shower and then right before bed. But eventually things got "hydrated" enough. (I'm pretty good about staying hydrated because of the overall health benefits.)

I work nights Monday-Thursday and have my son on the weekends, he does not work nights, so on top of trashed circadian rhythms, I have a pretty sporadic schedule, and a very thirsty beard despite drinking a minimum of a gallon of water a day, so my routine is typically as follows: I get home from work, take off my dirty clothes and make something to eat, if I slacked on my hydration towards the end of work, I take about 30 minutes to rehydrate after eating, take a shower, wash usually without conditioner on the weekdays and once on the weekends, then oil, plenty of love with fingers and tools, then after about 15 minutes I use butter, then more multi directional combing and then bed.
I usually wake up much earlier than I need to, so I usually take a while to get ready, sometimes I shower again from sweat and I will just rinse my beard.
More oil, and usually nothing else.
If it is a thinner oil I will usually bring it with me and reapply around my break.
I usually use a thicker oil like Beards Dignified for work so I don't have to reapply and I still have scent and good feeling beard until I get home and start it over again!

Been using bearded coast, thank you for that review it changed my oil type. I oil 2 times a day. Once in the AM I rinse with warm water light dry and oil, a little more than I should. Because, I wear a mask at work and I also work with fried food so it dries my face hairs out big time. Then again after I shower after work really hot rinse most days and a light oiling. Every 3 to 4 days wash it using beardbrand unscented. . I'll be using butter soon waiting for another order from Bearded Coast. Keep up the great work Dan. Love ya my bearded brother.

I'm a metal fabricator by trade. Hot, sweaty, and filthy all day at work, lol. I shower when I get home. The beard gets either a wash or a rinse daily with beard oil after. I also apply oil in as part of my morning routine. Sometimes during the hot months I require multiple showers a day. In those cases I'll switch the routine around a bit because I don't like to apply oil more than twice a day.

I started stashing beard oil in my work locker a few months back. Between having to switch out facemasks a few times during a shift and wearing a hair bouffant over the beard, I found myself in desparate need of some oil reapplication around mid day. Like you said, gotta listen to what your beard tells ya. Watching this definitely reassured me that I was making the right call 👍🏻

As a paramedic in an ER I’ve been putting a really thin layer of beard butter on the inside of my mask. It does tend to cause a little bit of oiliness where the mask sits but seems to keep my beard from developing that hay feeling after 8-12 hours straight of wearing a mask. Plus the scent covers up the smell during a code brown situation.

Oil & balm in the morning, post shower. Normally a 2nd, lesser application of oil late afternoon- sometimes admittedly just for a “scent recharge” (because I can be a junkie for some of those incredible aromas! In those cases it is normally just a few drops, not the nickel size amount my beard drinks in the morning). Then cold wash and butter at night.

I work night shift in a dirty environment, so I shower in the AM before bed and apply oil...
I hit the gym after waking up and then shower again prior to work that night so I apply oil after that shower as well...
I may or may not apply oil upon waking in the afternoon if my face feels dry...
I’m still in the beginning stages of growth but figured the more nutrients I can get to the skin early on, the better...

I’m a night time shower guy. Oil and butter and heat (always low heat for my thinner graying beard!). Morning I spray bottle water to rinse butter out then oil only. I’ve tried not to use balms for styling because they often make my beard look thinner however, I’ve been experimenting some with a small amount of butter then hair dryer to style in the mornings. The last few times I’ve done this have been good for me. I’ve used way too much products in the past and the result was pimples.

I use beard oil 2-4 times a day, i also wash my beard 3-4 times a week. Lately I've been washing daily with water only, and try 2-3 times a week with beard wash. My beard is itchy, dry, red and sore, also hurts to touch my skin underneath on some areas, sometimes pimples. I think I've tried 20 different beard oils, nothing seem to change much. Some oils seems to surprise me and give me a good result and then they don't. I also use beard conditioner sometimes, not everytime i wash it. Other times after washing i change beard oil with lotions from la roche posay, but I can't tell what works or not, lotions make ur beard sticky and not feeling newly washed, if you compare it with using oil instead. I've also struggled with beardruff for ages, it gets better sometimes, but then it returns, but i also change a lot of products. What I've been trying to research and never found the answer to, is if you compare a beard shampoo with a very gentle hair shampoo or dandruff gentle shampoo found in pharmacy, could anyone tell me what is the best? Will beard shampoo always be the most gentle, even if you buy one of the most gentle hair shampoo? To mention some products its either vichy, la roche posay, ACO, right now im using Daxxin, one for dandruff. I've also used fungoral and selukos/selsun for seborrheic dermatitis, let's just say that after 3 years, I'm still struggling, but I don't give up, because i love my beard. I'd highly appreciate if anyone has any advise for me! Great video btw, lots of good tips :D

Usually in the morning comb through and use oil, I do find after wearing a mask I need to re apply later that day, I use a face cloth dipped in hot water and then let that sit on my beard before re applying later that day. Definitely a question I ask myself from time to time is whether or not I'm using too much oil.
I am a face rinser in my bathroom sink first thing in the morning, I apply my Oil for the day, maybe a balm if I'm feeling it. Then I go to work detailing boats and cars, which we dont wear masks all day, but I do use dusty materials like our compounds for buffing aswell as some acidic chemicals from time to time. I also sweat, so before bed every night I'll shower, typically washing my beard, dependent on my day of work, and then re oil and use butter for bed 😁

Sometimes it's good to just come back and watch one of your videos as a sort of "refresher" and because sometimes we might change our routine over time *and not even know it*!!
    Hey! Video idea???? 😂
There are times when we consciously change something in our routine. We are aware of it, we want to change it, we make a choice. But sometimes, as is the case with me, things change over time and we have no idea we did it! It's not one day, one time, boom, we changed something. It's like that game teachers would have you play as a kid, Telephone, to show you how words can drastically change just by changing tiny words over and over. Kinda the same thing. One day you decide you're going to add a couple more drops of this super thin oil. And you use it for days and days. A couple more drops, day after day, of this thinner oil. Then you change oils. Different brand, same viscosity, so you use the same amount of added drops. But then you go to a different oil, different viscosity, but only slightly thicker. So you use the same amount of drops as with the thinner oil!
Eventually you're just using this bigger amount of oil, but you're grabbing Fable or, gulp, Artius Man! 😳 And you sorta just forgot that you made all these little change over time for that thinner oil. You added drops, and maybe you used a different butter that went with the added drops, or maybe you also started applying more of this or that, and eventually you just have to start over with your oils and butter, all because you made these teeny tiny changes along the way and sorta just didn't realize it all!!
(Unless that doesn't ever happen to anybody else and I'm the only dummy that does that. In that case, please don't make a video out of it. 😂😂)

Here's a slightly related question, I know you've talked about beard dandruff and that it is important to apply a quality oil regularly in order to address the sebum oil that your beard is "stealing" from your facial skin. However, skin dies, dead skin is a natural thing (dust is mostly dead skin, eww I know) so how can you tell the difference between NATURAL dead skin that gets trapped by the beard and UN-natural dead skin buildup? (whether that unnatural buildup is due to dandruff as a skin condition or from a deficiency that a better beard routine could address)

    • @DanCBearded
      @DanCBearded  3 роки тому +2

When comes to the skin under your beard, the unnatural buildup will be much larger. Flakey, white, and very noticeable

Question : I don't shower everyday (every other day , especially due to the pandemic) should I be applying beard oil/balm daily regardless? Also how often should I wash my beard? I coincide my beard washing when i trim my beard, which is once a week. I like this cadence because it lets me get a decent build of oil from the other beard oil/bam applications to give my beard a little extra hold and mold-ability. Lastly, this was another great video thanks for all you and the "Dan C Bearded Family" do for us beardos :).

    • @DanCBearded
      @DanCBearded  3 роки тому +1

I can’t really take any oil or other products with me because I don’t have any chances of washing my hands during work. So what would you suggest, adding beard oil and butter in the morning or balm ? I’m guessing butter because the beard stays hydrated longer.

Great video trusted teacher! Spot on. I do apply oil twice a day, everyday. My routine really only changes in how much I wash vs. co-wash (winter/dryer/not sweating as much) I wash less and co-wash more. Summer (especially if I'm playing a lot of golf/mowing/swimming--in my world that means floating in the pool with a cigar and cocktail) I'll sometimes do all 3 (wash/co-wash and oil) twice a day because I'm showering twice a day.
