It's important to remember that you are selling a vehicle, not a home. Removing or altering OEM equipment results in a loss of value and you rarely get your money back from upgrades. Your new RV is really beautiful! Congrats!
One quick hack to try before you get snap pads - go to Tractor Supply and the heavy (3/4 or1") stall mat. cut it into 2x2 squares (you might need a jig or circular saw), drill 2 holes in each square and tie on a rope handle. Place on ground below your stabilizers before you lower them. They will disperse the weight surprisingly well. Use the leftover pieces under your tires, or below your stairway. Safe & happy travels!
Dealer (if they didn't send it to auction or another reseller) is probably touting the improved furniture y'all put in, the snap pads and the steering assist...and making some DOLLARS for it, too. They were probably doing the 'happy dance' on the inside for the reselling of it.
Our last camper (also our first) was a 2011 and we got it in 2019. Physically, it was in amazing shape. It looked barely used. Nothing needed to be touched. But it was SO brown. And because it was small, it felt like a cave. We painted it white, grey and blue which helped make it feel a lot larger. A few months ago we were finally ready to upgrade and found a 2020 with dark cabinets but light floors, wall and ceiling. I’ve made a few small touches to bring in some color (like putting up some peel and stick wallpaper on the fridge) but we bought it because we were happy with the interior for the most part. And knowing it’s so new, we are not wanting to make any major modifications to it. the valances however were one of the first things to go 😂
I’m being pedantic, but it’s just the style! Darkness makes things appear further away. Lightness makes things pop. If you paint walls a lighter color, the walls appear closer to you; therefore a room looks smaller. The fact that people keep repeating this “white = big” thing when everyone knows dark jeans are the “safe” option for plus size women proves the white on white trend is a marketing scheme. Why do stores (continue to after decades) advertise dark washed jeans to large thighed women? Because dark colors make the object appear smaller. White, black, and gray is in style. It’s a trend. Just like the Tuscan trend before. The color itself doesn’t do what people think it does. It just seems fresh and new to buffoons trying to fit in. That’s it. Congrats on selling your rig, though!
Im painting mine now!! Mostly white!! Lol Im ripping out the linoleum and carpet and putting in Laminate!! It's going to be my home Just with the one coat of Primer im giddy over the moon happy
I’m somewhere in between. We have nice modern top box valances, which hide the day/night shades (and wiring for the powered ones). But I absolutely hate the part that goes down the sides - I had the manufacturer leave that off when building.
At least the tops have the functionality of hiding the blind hardware and whatnot. Some of the sides that come down are so large and boxy and really cut into the space around the windows. The ones in the new rig aren't too bad, they actually taper in towards the wall as they come down the sides so they aren't just sticking out poking you in the shoulder 😜
@@Five2Go Yeah, hitting your shoulder on those is definitely annoying. This is the main reason we didn’t put a window in the hallway outside my office and the boy’s room - that valance would have been at prime shoulder height.
We have removed our valiances, took out the kitchen table and replaced with something that works better for us. Took out the sleeper couch in the bunk because we wanted more space and have made other modifications because it’s our home. We want to feel comfortable and feel like our home. When it’s time to sell, we will deal with that stuff at that time. But we refused to live uncomfortably or not feeling like we’re in our home just so we can worry about resale value.
I am one of the few that have had an issue with snap pads and did call and said the crack was OK, it is on the road someplace. The second one, the whole foot came off so that is not on them.
WE were able to sell ours pvt. I put it on FB which has only friends and one of them had a friend who needed a trailer. So we got our asking price. A little less than a dealer would have sold it for and a lot more than a dealer would have given us for it. We would have sold it to a dealer as a last resort. Used it for a large down payment on a little smaller, much lighter trailer with a slide out. The other was 8.5 ft wide which I didn't like towing, and actually limited us state-wise as in 5 states, it's illegal or you need a permit. Also it was only 2000 lbs under our max tow and that is completely dry with no propane etc. Hitch weight was at the max as it dry. So we got one much easier to handle and love the modern design and power awning and hitch lift. Aside from less inside storage it's a much better one for us- However the other was a toy hauler and had NO outside storage except for dump hoses. It was a 2003 Ragen. This new one has plenty outside. The Ragen however was VERY well built and could live in it as a single person, or maybe a couple. Your new one looks great and glad you got your exact wish. I'm not fond of valences either but thinking of ways to use them. They're kind of old fashioned. The newer bright colors though on the inside is nice though- more airy and roomy feeling.
We gutted the dinette from our small RV(21 foot/couple only size) and swapped in a jackknife sofa and swing out table tops(lagun style). It works so much better for the 2 of us, but I'm sure somebody will want to talk down the price since it isn't stock when we upsize in a few years. You do you is the best policy.......
Some might prefer it too. We bypassed several with dinettes and got one with a slide out with sofa in the slide out, NO dinette and a folding table. It wasn't the only one like it either. It COULD fit more people at the table better than the smaller dinette table. I have a stackable chair set of two in case of camp company. I think dinettes are going out of favor generally and maybe people with 1-2 kids might want one, but I think the trend is going towards flexible and dinettes are usually fixed.
Oh MY😯 I will rent you 👍😀 As A landlord we have found so many things NOT CLEANED and tenants saying it's all cleaned and want a FULL RETURN ON THEIR DEPOSIT 👎👎🙄 Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience with selling 😊
We are also a family of 5 and have set out on a full time RV life adventure for now in search of our forever home! Just subscribed! Thanks for your videos and information! What a beautiful motorhome you live in! We bought an older coach that we could afford and added bunks to fit our needs. Thanks for the tips for whenever we want to sell and upgrade to something else.
I removed the valance but kept them. I made my own curtains. As I make changes I think about resale value. I have added storage by moving water pump from under fridge to under sink and opened up area under fridge. I moved back false wall under bunk bed back about 6 inches. I am in process of adding a couple power receptacles. I added a grab rail just inside door. I am investigating if I can change microwave to larger convection microwave. I have changed the low point drains from just a cap to a valve that can have a hose hooked up to. I also have changed the fresh water dump from cap to a shut off valve style out at the edge of the unit. I do still need to make some adjustments to the fresh water dump to make it look nicer (at this time it is held in place with picture wire). I am a certified mobile RV tech so have skills others may not.
LOL (AVC - Anti Valance coalition) We bought our first travel trailer 11 years ago - It was new, we kept it all original, we did not decorate (Hang things on the wall or paint, etc) - Fast forward 9 years (2 years ago) - we put our 28ft trailer up for sale. It was well taken care of and it sold to the 2nd person who looked at it. We actually had 2 people bidding on it. We sold it for a good price. Then we bought a 2021 Grand Design Imagine 2670MK - this one we have done some minor decorating - we added a few small wall hanging items, bedding, and rugs. - but everything is still 90% original. We plan on keeping this one for about ten years. While it is nice to decorate to your own taste, I agree that it can take away from the value of the next sale of your RV. It hurts when you lose money on some of the important add-ons (Snap pads, magna shade, etc) - You know that the dealer will up sale the next people looking at your RV (They will say "look, it comes with these extra goodies worth thousands of dollars at no charge") Henry - Woodland California
Congratulations on the new rig. My wife wanted the valances taken out of our rig; however after looking at them I knew some damage would be done taking them out so I didn't. Glad I didn't when it came time to sell.
I hear you on that! The valances in the new RV are basically built-in and even structural in some places so I think these will have to stay in place. They're pretty well-integrated though and not sticking out in awful places so they haven't been annoying at all.
seems to me dealers dont care what extras you put on when trading in due to they dont want to give you anymore money than they have to, but its funny when you talk to them to purchase one or see a video of them showing the rig this is what you typically hear......and wow you wont believe the upgrades the previous owners put on then continue to ramble on about them.......hense just to justify why the asking way too much....lol......good video and info, thanks
Anti valance! We have a 2022 35k Bounder and I would love to remove the big, ugly valances! We also love our Magne shades and Snap pads! Can't wait for the tour!
We currently have a 2014 Fleetwood discovery 40g. This rig has 3 a/c units. Sitting at thousand trails Orlando in September, we quickly realized we needed magna shades. The sun heats up the front windshield and the a/c will run most of the day. We bought a 1999 Prevost marathon that is in the shop having work done. Once we move into it the Prevost, we are going to sell this one. We love the Fleetwood and I would recommend them any day. I am however dreading selling it. I am not a salesman. Thank you for posting this.
The full tour is coming tomorrow! UA-cam is really pushing shorts so we have to play along to keep our channel successful. Please don't feel bad skipping them, full episodes will still be out every week-ish.
I like the valances (mostly) that we have (they cover our blinds) and I made black out curtains that are on tension rods pressed into the box of the valance. What I want to do this winter is to take the valances down, remove the stupid side pieces that hang down, and recover the main box piece. Put them back up with the curtains. We also took out the foldout bed in the couch…. BUT… my hubby took my idea and built a frame to keep the couch and have storage where the once bed folded in. LOVE IT! I’m not a ‘brown’ person though Hubby is… so I have added splashes of burgundy. I added a new border that I put over the old wall paper border (beige, lt brown & burgundy), the black out curtains are burgundy, and I made a burgundy cover for the couch & side chair. The pop of color has been great. I also want a pop of wall color in the kitchen area, paint though not much needed there.
Ps… this is our 4th rv… it is a 26’ TT. I never did any changes with the other 3… having 3-4 kids I was too busy homeschooling in our house to even think about changes to any campers. We started with a 20 year old 23’ Class C, went to a 36’ TT with double bunks (only change we made was a different mattress for parents & one for our daughter with JRA) , then as kids graduated we went to a 26’ TT though a tree killed it😢, and now our 26’ TT. Seems it’s the perfect sweet spot for us 1/2 timers.
Very beautiful RV! So happy for you. We learned at our RV dealer, they let the salesman take used RV’s from the lot on vacation trips. That surprised us but it’s a perk for the salespeople. That could explain some of the stuff you saw in the RV lots. I still haven’t really personalized anything worth sharing on our RV. It just isn’t high on our radar of thing to do. We hope to see you again in a campground!
But then that tells me how inconsiderate those people are by leaving Trash behind. If I walk into a RV on a RV lot and see trash inside a 150,000 or more home, I already made up my mind to go somewhere else. Like you mentioned earlier, attention to detail.
I have a travel Trailer and they don't make snap pads for trailer, bummer! As for those balances over the windows since we have a HiLo that goes up and down one balance just came lose so we just removed it, I will say I do love the day night shades.
Like you, my wife ripped out the valances on our previous rig IMMEDIATELY. However the valances on this new rig (10 months old) are still intact. Go figure.
The valances are going to survive in our new rig as well. They're not awful at all and some are pretty well integrated into cabinets and other surrounding things.
I agree with you about the valances, are they to help block the sun? We have a 2021 travel trailer and I don't like how they stick out, it seems like they're in the way and make the space feel more closed in but because it's so new and we're not sure if we're going to keep it long-term we didn't want to remove them. As far as renovating it, that is not something I'm interested in. I love to renovate houses, I'm a certified interior decorator, but I don't want to mess with an RV if that makes sense? I can't wait for your new rig tour! 💗 We are hoping to launch early next year and become a Roadrunner!🙌
The top of the valance hides the shade hardware and the sides block the space between the walls/windows and the shade since it doesn't lay flat against the wall and they aren't inset into a window frame like in a house. So they do serve a function, but they _don't_ have to be that ugly! 😜
I bet that the dealership will up the price of the unit when they sell it because of all the great modifications you made on it. Of course they are going to tell you it makes no difference to them. We have made a modification in our dinette. We took out one of the seats and put in a computer chair as I can't sit on the seats they hade in their. (I have back issues) However we have kept the seat and will put it back in if and when we sell. The people before us that had it had a wheel chair so they modified the size of the dining table so it would only seat two people and a nice large hallway. We love it so I hope others will too. Oh yea I hate valences too, but haven't removed them.
I think if I were to modify an expensive RV I would keep everything it came with to reinstall at the time I sold it. People like original fittings especially in good condition. Personally I’d remove all carpet and create a working area as well as a dining experience. Unlike houses that are completely renovated it’s not the same with cars and RVS. Keep everything you possibly can unless it’s yours for life.
No changes for our rig, unless it was a functional or quality of life for us. For example, we needed office space, so took out a couch and replaced with a standup desk and small side chair. We don't mind the top valance, and it covers the day/night shades, so are functional, however, the side boxes on each window were bulky and in the way, so we did remove those. Any upgrades/updates we do are meant for us to use, until this thing falls completely apart we are in it for the long haul.
The dealers will always...ALWAYS...find reasons to lower their offer to you for whatever you're trading in. My husband's former p/u truck had a camper shell on it. "Oh...that's a shame..." Um, it was in pristine condition and was a good brand. And sure enough, they had the truck w/o the shell listed a day or so later for well over what they offered us for it. My husband thinks the shell went to a mechanic for their own F150.
Suggestion: Check out and try Parkway RV Center in Ringgold, GA, next time. Not only do they buy RV’s, they sell some new and more used RV’s. They literally have zero added fees and do a four page inspection on all their RV’s new and used, that no dealer in the country does. I’ve bought several RV’s from them and they’re legit. They have a UA-cam Channel called “RV’s with Big Bo”. That said, I get you needed to trade with a large dealer to get exactly what you wanted. That’s most important!😌 I really enjoy your practical and very informative RV channel. Y’all show real life usage and issues that arise etc. All the cons and pros of full time RVing. Y’all are a beautiful family! Be blessed!😄
Thanks like learning about rvs. Wanting to get one for my family. Having trouble finding online school that is good for my sons...having bad experiences with school this far. In need of the space of hour rv like new one so much...is it hard to get class a.
I didn't matter if you took the valances out or not. When you sell your RV to a dealer they're going to find what ever they can to give you less as possible for your RV. That's the same if your selling a home, car or truck. They want to make as much money as they can buy giving you less.
I don't like what they have on the valances, but there are ways you can do valances that will make them look great. Personally, one of the reasons I really want to buy a 20-year-old diesel pusher if I can (Prevost) is because then it won't matter what I do to it. The interior will be dated old, and a bit worn more than likely. I am someone that will require that my RV be personalized and made sensory safe for my autistic brain. That said, my autistic brain is like I am not buying brand new and then redoing the whole thing. When I get done with the RV it will be all new inside, but I won't be getting rid of old stuff. Instead of painting all the wallpaper that is on the walls I will just cover the walls in fabric that will be stapled one under the trim. I want to change the cabinets and countertops because as a neurodivergent I don't work in a space the same way Neurotypicals work. I will hide a small chest freezer in the closet, as I eat a lot of meat and not much else. It is related to my autism. I will need space for a worktable and a drawing table. Again, I will be working with a 20-year-old rig, and when/if I sell it that stuff will come with me. I will put in a table and chairs back in. The funny thing is all those upgrades will be advertised to help sell it and get them more money. It is just how vehicle sales work!
I think the dealership knew they had you, so they would take advantage of anything they could! I guess if you remove any parts you should be careful removing them, then store them somewhere safe!! I think as long as you have the pieces even if they are not installed it should bo
Is that the rig with the bunk beds in the back that you gave a tour and they had changed the floor plan the year after? I hope it is. It was an awesome floor plan. Best bunks in a class A vs the hallway bunks.
@@Five2Go congrats! I will definitely watch the tour. I loved that rig when you posted the video. Not sure why they would stop that floor plan. So much quieter for little ones.
The newer 44B has the same rear end layout but they swapped the side the kitchen is on and did a couple other small things. We love having the big windows on the camp side rather than having the kitchen take up that space so the 2019 is perfect!
and why can't you save your removables (valances) and put them back on to sell? I'd certainly prefer the window to the valance, but i'd want something decorative, just not that large.
I have a question I can't find anywhere.!! We're would a family do their taxes if we are working across the country? In the state we happen to be in? Or the state we are from? Online?
I'm not a lawyer. All of my taxes are filed in my home state of Florida because all of my work is done online and is not dependant on my physical location. If you are traveling and selling physical goods, performing an on-site service (like rv repair, nursing, etc), or doing temp/contract work for a company in other states you're visiting, you'll probably have to file taxes in those other states. Again, I'm not a lawyer. Check with one, or a tax attorney, if you have more questions about this topic.
Totally anti valence. In my first travel trailer, I removed the valences and the stinky curtains. I don’t get blocking the light with them. I wish someone could explain why it’s a thing?
We're going to be doing more of both (regular episodes and shorts) but please don't feel obligated to watch ones you don't want to or feel bad if you skip some. UA-cam keeps changing and we have to change a bit too to keep up - we hope everyone understands 😍
When dealing with dealers, keep in mind that it isn't illegal for them to have a microphone monitoring your conversation. When they leave the room for lengthy times, assume they are listening. If you have any sensitive negotiating thoughts, communicate back and forth in writing.
You do in some states. We're Florida residents and there's a blanket exception for privately-owned RVs regardless of size and weight. In Texas though, where we were previously registered, we would have needed a special endorsement on our licenses and paid a higher registration fee.
I HATE...the valances. I told hubby I was taking them off and he argued that he liked them. I of course said...NOPE, THEY ARE GONE! Now he agrees. Those valances are so...80s. I'm not sure why RV companies are STILL putting them in their RVs. Dust and bug collectors...that's all they are.
This RV was privately owned. We had been talking with Matt for a few months during our search but this unit never showed up anywhere he could help out.
It's important to remember that you are selling a vehicle, not a home. Removing or altering OEM equipment results in a loss of value and you rarely get your money back from upgrades. Your new RV is really beautiful! Congrats!
I’m trying to convince my husband to go look at your old RV 😂😂😂 It’s not far from us!!!
However, my kids want bunk beds.

Looking forward to seeing your new rig! We bought our first TT this year, a 2020. We modified it to suit our needs by making the bunkhouse an office.

Oh my - no to the boxy carpets on the windows ha! Love the new rig
Beautiful RV ~ CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Congratulations guys can’t wait for official tour.we also took them ugly valances down asap.
Yall?? I'm trying to be patient, however I have now seen more shorts than I would like???? Please give us a tour?? Love your UA-cam family ❤❤❤
The full tour is coming tomorrow! UA-cam is really pushing shorts so we have to play along to keep our channel successful. Please don't feel bad skipping them, full episodes will still be out every week-ish.
@@Five2Go completely understand:-) can't wait ❤❤❤
Well I was thinking when I saw the first Bounder videos where you were ripping things out. It is ok as long as you never sell it.
Not a no-valance fan. No heavy tweed or symmetrical patterns though. Prefer a wood / more solid color and no side drops is okay.
Congratulations on your new diesel pusher.
100% AVC
Congrats on the new rig!
Im with you on the no valances!
I love your new RV. It's beautiful. Love the floor plan too. 👌
Nice wow thanks
I just took my valances down today!! Mine were fabric, so I COULD put up new ones if I wanted, but I really don’t see the point!?
I have a travel Trailer and they don't make snap pads for trailer, bummer! As for those balances over the windows since we have a HiLo that goes up and down one balance just came lose so we just removed it, I will say I do love the day night shades.
I had bought a brand new manufactured home, Palm Harbor, great home. But day one, down came the crappy awful curtains and the horrible cealing lights.
Congrats🎉
I don’t like the valances….but I’m afraid to take them out because of holes, etc.
Hi Guys. Congrats on your 100K Play Button
Thanks man! See you in Florida!
The top valances aren't so bad but the side ones are a big no!
Excited to see the new rig!
Soon!
They usually don’t care when buying your vehicle. But they will advertise all the upgrades at resale
Congrats ! 👍👍👍
I ripped off all my Valences!! I ripped off all my metal blinds!! Im hanging curtains!
Congrats on the new RV. We look forward to your new adventures. Loving the red hair, it’s super sexy and it suits you. Peace y’all
I’m anti valance makes the rv bigger and more light.
That’s most important!😌
I really enjoy your practical and very informative RV channel. Y’all show real life usage and issues that arise etc. All the cons and pros of full time RVing. Y’all are a beautiful family! Be blessed!😄
Many things could have been different, but this was the exact RV we were looking for so we decided it was worth it to make it happen!
I watch Big Bo all the time! His walkthroughs helped guide us into buying our motorhome.
Can’t wait to see the full tour!
Soon! 😉
@@Five2Go thanks for posting … I had actually been getting worried … frequency of posts had gone down. Now I know why lol
It has been a very hectic few weeks
@@Five2Go I cannot imagine … I detest moving lol
DOWN WITH ALL VALANCES!!!
Remove them ALL!!!! 😂
I removed my valances as well
Thanks like learning about rvs. Wanting to get one for my family. Having trouble finding online school that is good for my sons...having bad experiences with school this far. In need of the space of hour rv like new one so much...is it hard to get class a.
Check with your state - I believe they all have virtual learning programs. We use Florida Virtual School for our kids and it has been fantastic.
I didn't matter if you took the valances out or not. When you sell your RV to a dealer they're going to find what ever they can to give you less as possible for your RV. That's the same if your selling a home, car or truck. They want to make as much money as they can buy giving you less.
I liked the look when you guys removed the valences .
That's the one! Make sure to watch the tour 😉
Yes I remember you liked the view towards your camp. Not facing the camp of your neighbors.
I will be very surprised if our RV will be sellable at all by the time we're done with it 😂
and why can't you save your removables (valances) and put them back on to sell?
Interesting we traded our toy hauler to a dealer and we had zero valances and had painted a slide and they didn’t care about any of that.
When are you going to give a tour of the new rv?
_Very_ soon 😉
Nope I'm the same as you guys, I can't mess with our trailer, it's too nice.
Totally anti valence. In my first travel trailer, I removed the valences and the stinky curtains. I don’t get blocking the light with them. I wish someone could explain why it’s a thing?
I’d like to know also…who actually likes them enough that it would be a modification for their rig?
Yeah new vlog.are you going to do more vlogs in the months to come instead of shorts? But I guess shorts are better than nothing
We're going to be doing more of both (regular episodes and shorts) but please don't feel obligated to watch ones you don't want to or feel bad if you skip some. UA-cam keeps changing and we have to change a bit too to keep up - we hope everyone understands 😍
@@Five2Go oh no I watch them all but prefer the reg vlogs over the shorts but I’ll take either
When dealing with dealers, keep in mind that it isn't illegal for them to have a microphone monitoring your conversation. When they leave the room for lengthy times, assume they are listening. If you have any sensitive negotiating thoughts, communicate back and forth in writing.
If anyone is listening in on our conversations when they leave those little rooms all they're hearing is us 💩-talking them 😂😂😂
Where can I buy one of those anti-valance badges?
At this rate I'm going to have to make some 🤣
Valance, you mean firewood right?
Yes!
ANTI VALANCE!!!! We are going to purchase an older Class A and that's the first thing I want to do is get rid of those valances!!!
Our thoughts are that we might sell and others might like it the way it came.
What dealership did you use in Minneapolis?
Another Fleetwood?
I am also a valance take down, they are so stupid. lol
i want a badge. valences are evil from the inception :)
For tha size of rv do i need special driving license
You do in some states. We're Florida residents and there's a blanket exception for privately-owned RVs regardless of size and weight. In Texas though, where we were previously registered, we would have needed a special endorsement on our licenses and paid a higher registration fee.
They told you they don't Care but when they Resell it they will use all those things to get more money for it.
What is snappads
Did you not use Matt RV Reviews again?
This RV was privately owned. We had been talking with Matt for a few months during our search but this unit never showed up anywhere he could help out.
Definitely anti-valances 😊
